Legislature calls special session to undo even more damage done to our state by exiting quitter and chief.

The Alaska Legislature has called itself into a special session to consider overriding Gov. Sarah Palin's veto of federal stimulus funds for energy-related projects.

Senate President Gary Stevens, R-Kodiak, said the one-day session will be Aug. 10 in Anchorage instead of the Capitol in Juneau.

Only one other special session has been held in Anchorage, in June 2007. The one-day session cost nearly $112,000, according to Pam Varni, executive director of the Legislative Affairs Agency.

Apparently this is yet another example of how Palin's quitting is going to save Alaska money.

I could spend this post railing on how full of shit everything Sarah Palin says turns out to be, but I would rather talk about the booby-trap she is leaving behind in her wake.

And that would be THIS guy.

Lawmakers also will consider approving the designee for lieutenant governor.

Palin has announced she will resign July 26, and Lt. Gov. Sean Parnell will take the oath of office at the Governor's Picnic the same day in Fairbanks.

In her announcement, Palin said Military and Veterans Affairs Commissioner Craig Campbell would become the new lieutenant governor, even though the Legislature had previously named Corrections Commissioner Joe Schmidt as the designee.

After receiving an opinion from the attorney general, Parnell on Monday named Campbell as the lieutenant governor on a temporary basis, saying he would serve in that capacity until he could be confirmed by the Legislature.

Craig Campbell is one of those oily opportunistic politicians that Alaska seems to produce at a break neck pace. He is of the same school as Don Young, Frank Murkowski, Ben Stevens, Tom Anderson, and our new mayor Dan Sullivan. These guys have little integrity and seem instead to view politics as a way to gain power and line their own pockets.

Craig Campbell sold what little integrity he had back when, after first criticizing Sarah Palin for saying she "ran the National Guard in Alaska" during the 2008 campaign, he came out and defended her statements after the McCain people had a little "talk" with him.

First he made this statement to the Boston Globe:

And while the Alaska National Guard operates a launch site for a US anti-missile system at Fort Greely, about 100 miles south of Fairbanks, the Alaskan governor is not in the site’s chain of command and has no authority over its operations, according to Maj. Gen. Craig E. Campbell, the adjutant general of the Alaska National Guard who commands the roughly 3,800 state militia members.

Yet after a trip to the McCain/Palin woodshed he goes on FOX News and tells Greta Van Susteren (yes she was carrying Palin's water even back then) this:

(You can see the full story here.)

After Campbell made these remarks he mysteriously managed to get a promotion from Major General to Lieutenant General which many of his peers believed was wholly undeserved and which he then used to bully them into submission.

Here are just a few comments which express grave concerns about Campbell's abilities and leadership style:

There are valid concerns about possible retribution for speaking out and the prospect that some will not speak out at all about the rogue Genera Campbell. He received an unprecedented and undeserved promotion to three-star ran. Guardsmen think it’s a travesty. The problem is that he forces true leaders out and surrounds himself with people who won’t outshine him. He can’t follow the leadership principles that he likes to hear himself quote. That is why he has a recruiting problem. I know of a Guardsmen who suffered retribution from him after returning from Afghanistan. He is a highly decorated Guardsman and an outstanding leader. Campbell is so self centered that he refused to recognize this soldier and instead had investigation after investigation placed on him. Campbell is a rogue General who should be investigated himself. Where is justice? I know there is a travesty of justice with this rogue General.

And then there is this:

I am one of those Guardsmen who has suffered under the Alaska Guard leadership of General Campbell. He has two sets of rules when applying to promotions. Whoever doesn’t outshine him can get ahead. You need to “kiss up” and play his game. He isn’t a leader but a self proclaimed politician.

THIS is the type of person that Sarah Palin feels should be place in the role of Lt. Governor. She has a history of placing unqualified people in leadership positions and she is certainly not going to changer her modus operandi now.

However I urge the Alaska legislators to kick Craig Campbell to the curb and select somebody who will serve the people of Alaska, and not their own selfish desire for power.

Wow, I haven't checked here in a few days. I think since Palin quit there will be nothing to see here folks. Even if there is an IRS investigation going on (which I highly doubt) no one will hear about it since she is now a private citizen.

Do yourselves a favor and do some yardwork, play with the kids, or go shopping. The Palin drama is over.

You will never find out if she is Trigs mother, you will never see her dragged of in handcuffs, but at least you know she can no longer have an effect on your lives. She is now a national joke within both parties. She has given up any power she had or ever will have.

The most she will be doing is stumping for a candidate on the level of Elizabeth Hasselbeck. Whos afraid of Hasselbeck? Thats right Palin is done.

I know it will leave the blogs a little slow, but isnt this what you wanted?

But it's only for another 16 months, right? Then Bob Poe becomes Governor and he can appoint another Lt. Gov. etc.

    Right?

  3. I'm re-posting this here from my comment @ Mudflats, because, after reading the latest CrazyQuitterGov tweets, alarm bells are going off...

" “Planning inauguration w/LtGov in 10 days, Frbanks. W/same cabinet, same positive pro-AK agenda it’s all good, consistent success bc everyone …elected is replaceable;Ak WILL progress! + side benefit=10 dys til less politically correct twitters fly frm my fingertps outside State site”

    Translation:
Palin’s own agenda will continue under her hand-picked successors (unless the legislature has the wits and balls to intervene; surely they won’t get suckered?).

She’s going to stop using the http://twitter.com/AKGovSarahPalin site for her twitterbabble after July 25, then she’ll twitter exactly what she thinks and feels like (hasn’t she been doing that all along?)

That statement about “everyone elected is replaceable” is very strange if not ominous. The average person knows that is true, but to have such a devious vindictive personality point that out makes me wonder what her proposed Parnell-Campbell-Schmidt consortium have in mind — remember, all three of them are APPOINTEES, as is the AG. Are they planning on changing the state constitution?

The average SANE person would think “everyone appointed is replaceable”, which they’ve seen Palin do frequently enough, so her Twitter statement, to me, sets off alarm bells.

BTW, does anyone know the difference between a Twitterberry and a Tweetie? The “fake” EXGovSarahPalin” site has messages “from Tweetie”. It IS possible that it isn’t a fake site after all…if that is Palin using her new Twitter device, not the state Blackberries."

  4. Better an almost nothing job like Lt. Gov than in the Guard. She did the Guard a huge favor by getting him out.

so sorry for all of you up there!!

Here we have some very interesting news:

The defense lawyer for the student who is accused of hacking into Sarah Palin's private yahoo account (which she used for state business) requests via subpoena a very long list of documentation from Sarah Palin, including

Any "voluntary disclosure of e-mail addresses of family members, pictures of Gov. Palin's family, cell phone numbers of family members, dates of birth of Gov. Palin and members of her family and/or the address book for the Yahoo! e-mail account" at issue in the case.

    Read here:

    http://tinyurl.com/ly9tmn

It says in the article that the US Justice Department fights the subpoena, and apparently the judge has set the defense lawyer a deadline in order to narrow down the request. Still, I am very curious to know what the outcome will be!

To juju and anon 6:25-- Here's the thing. Just because $arah Palin doesn't want to be governor anymore doesn't mean that she is going to be shunning the spotlight. She craves that bright light in the same way that a vampire needs its daily blood fix. The spotlight and attention are her life blood.

It is my secret belief that $arah has a little note pasted inside her medicine cabinet so that when she wakes up, she reaffirms the things that important to her: making money and cashing in. It must be a handsome plaque that reads "Fame and Fortune" along with some religious message justifying it. In order to do that, every morning as she puts on her makeup and does her hair, practices her wink and smile she thinks of a fresh new way to gain media attention.

Mind you this is just speculation and imagination; please do not threaten to sue Gryphen. So, $arah looks up a timely quote in "Quotations for Dummies," shoots off a couple of twitters with her flying fingers, and thinks of something that upset her so she can call a press conference, play the victim and rake in more money. A full day's work and it's still morning. Study, conference, and learning-- that's for other people; she has serious work to do-- shoe shopping, shortening her skirts, you get the idea. We are going to be seeing alot more of Sarah than we ever wanted to see!

  8. @Juju - nobody here put all their eggs in Palin's quitterbasket. The more interesting question is what happens to C4P now that Palin is an international has-been laughingstock? Now that she's exposed herself as a duplicitous ant-thinking hypocritical grifter?

    :) Have a nice day.

I am sure Palin's agenda will continue unless the Legislature does grow balls and decide it's time to have qualified people in office rather than these Palin Pals who are only interested in lining their own pockets. I certainly hope it doesn't take another 16 months to get these leeches out of office.

  10. juju and SP are one hit wonders. They leave a comment and never come back to answer because they are cowards and besides, what is there to defend? They surely can't defend Sarah using facts or truths because Sarah is full of lies and deceptions.
juju and SP are like the teenagers that ring the doorbell and run. Annoying little brats but, if you ignore them, they will go away.
(Pure conjecture but could it be that juju's parents were first cousins?)

How could we forget old Maj Gen Craig Campbell, he could turn on a dime. One of the fastest quick change artists in the land. The McCain effect.
    My garden is beautiful!

    Kathleen...
I will be interested to hear about the Palin private yahoo account case. Sarah tweeted her anticipation at her gov twit. She will be a grizzly when it comes to standing up for leaving the kids alone?

The statue of limitations won't run out on all fraud and crime on July 26th. I'd be glad for a black out on Palin for awhile but she bares watching. Besides she is comedy gold, at least brass.

I believe that judgment is as important as experience. Sarah Palin lacks both. Her appointment of General Campbell to Lt. Gov. shows her lack of judgment. He is still polishing that phony tin star and looking at himself in the mirror.

Three guesses how that is going to pan out, even if the judge in the case tells the defense attorney to go ahead -- they'll get a bill for $750,000.00 from the Palin administration first, which will substantially halt the subpoena request dead in the water.

  15. Please, also read Andrew Halcro's "Strike One" blog entry from earlier today.

He makes the point that "Parnell's action on the gas tax took lawmakers by surprise and have put them in a corner. If lawmakers (who will have to find a way to pay for roads next year) deny the request, they'll look like tax and spenders while Parnell gets good press."

Ofergawdsake! "Good press" -- I should hope that's not the be-all and end-all for what Alaskans want for their elected representatives.

What I (as an interested bystander who lives in a state that has a significant gas tax and no sales tax) would hope Alaska state legislators do RIGHT NOW is issue a pre-emptive strike in the media taking a stand on what's good for Alaska -- using the gas tax money to improve life for city folk and rural folk alike.

They should point out how much that'll boost Alaskan employment over and above what the dreaded stimulus money will do. And it won't be pandering to the use-Alaska-until-it's-destroyed-or-worthless-or-ugly factions, of which there seems to be too many.

  16. All of these incompetents and workplace bullies who have been put in key positions are going to have long term effects on Alaska. Just because Palin is gone does not mean they are. One of the key features of the workplace bully syndrome is they are not about the work at hand. They have their own agenda which is based on their own feelings of inadequacies. They always target the same kind of people to get rid of those who go to work to do their work, are intelligent, knowledgable, have a sense of humor, other people like them, they are highly competent, etc.
Why? Because these people make them feel bad about themselves because they are everything they are not. Some of them are sociopaths and some have narcissistic personality disorder. When two of them work together it is way worse. Palin seems to have formed partnerships with several on many levels. They also waste the money of the corporation or government they work for. First by not doing the work and causing horrendous problems and second by getting rid of all the competent people. (In Nome they would hire a new nurse and had to pay to fly them in, give them a moving bonus. They new staff would freak out and leave after about 3 months. Then they had to hire another one, over and over)On the level of governmant there are millions which can be wasted in various ways and many lives which can be ruined.

@juju, pat your little ole weird self on the back. YOU, juju, have ended Sarah Palin's career because you are such a bad campaigner.

Next time you support a candidate, you'd be better off just answering the phones for them or something. Your "internet campaigning" skills suck. It's sad. No one trains you guys? Or is it you just have no decency or discipline?

Or are you someone's kid? I have wondered if juju is Meg's child or something...Someone who just gets online and says stupid things because she thinks Mom and Dad want her to be hostile? Admit it, juju. You are someone's little kid and they give you time at the keyboard, and you pretend to be an adult! Ha! Now it all makes sense.

Amen Phil, thank you for getting into this......I want to know if the legislature has access to his military records in order to vet and confirm him.

I asked this before, does he have any pending investigations and what happens to them if he goes into this job.

I don't know anything about military records or investigations. But I'm pretty good at smelling a rat.

Please stop the damage Palin has done by filling appointments with people who have no business in them. Please for your Alaska do something to get them back out, don't let them stay there if they aren't qualified for the job, if they are doing more damage than good. Speak up or at least leak out information to clean house before more damage is done.

Our family filed a Congressional complaint against Campbell for the injustices he inflicted against our a son, a war hero who served 2 tours in Afghanistan. He was highly decorated. This has been kept quiet and covered up. This tin star phony is a despicable liar and phony. Is this what Alaska wants for Lt. Gov. more of the same. Guardsmen fear speaking out for fear of retaliation and our son's experiennce confirms that.

Most states I have heard get to vote for their leaders. You have a mentally unstable quitter choosing the leaders of Alaska. Parnell is no shining example of leadership but Campbell for Lt. Gov.? He's a farce and a phony. He has screwed the Guard and received a tin star as a token for taking a bribe. Guardsmen will be happy to see that clown gone, but then they get that buffoon Kacass as their leader. Real leaders are run off because Campbell and Kacass are afraid they will outshine them. Howdy Doody would outshine them. Good luck! Alaska has my sympathy because it is a great state with wonderful people and deserves better.

I agree completely with the above statement about that crook General Campbell. He's driven the Guard in the ground and used it for political power for his own selfish reasons. He and Palin must have something going. Why hasn't this blatant opportunist been investigated? Afraid of finding out the truth about this pathetic excuse for a man. I bet he had a sex change operation way back and that's why he acts so feminine. Does Alaska need this phony tin star hypocrite?

You should read Andrew Halcro's "Alaska National Guard debate (updatead) from anonyomous Guardsmen and see what they think of Campbell. It will give the best insight ever as to the character of this man. They feared retalliation so much that it was kept anonyomous. Now Alaska gets Sarah Palin's lap dog as Lt. Gov.

As the parents of the Alaska Guardsman who was retaliated against by Campbell over and over because he refused to change the oer's of Campbell's despicable cronies, we are disillusioned and disappointed in the Alaska Legislature for the confirmation of such a man who would sell his soul for power and has no integrity or conscience.

Craig Campbell's lack of character is so transparent yet the Alaska Legislature still confirms him. What does this tell Alaskans? Does this mean the Legislature respects this kind of weasel of a leader who would sell his soul for power? What happened to Democracy and the people's choice. I know the people of Alaska are smarter than this and see through this phony tin star hypocrite.

Craig Campbell is a sleazy politician like Blago but doesn't have the hair. Campbell has no conscience or soul. No wonder Alaska'a Government ranks in the top 5 as the most corrupt. What happened to the good guys who should run for office and are decent and honorable? Is the criteria in Alaska for a politician to be a sleazebag?

Campbell and Kacass are living examples of what corrupt leadership stands for. These two sleazebags have corrupted the Guard and now Campbell gets a chance at the doing the same to the state. The "corrupt duo" will never be investigated as they are protected by "someone" who bribed them and they think they are above retribution.
