WTF?

As repeatedly stated to several in the media over the last week, former Governor Sarah Palin is not committed to attend the Simi Valley Republican Women’s event at the Reagan Library and in fact is not attending the event. Neither the Governor’s state staff nor SarahPAC has ever committed to attending this event or speaking at this event, and even requested that the Governor's name be removed from the invitation several weeks ago. The Governor has other work and commitments to take care of at that time. She looks forward to visiting her friends in California soon. All event requests must be confirmed with Meghan Stapleton of SarahPAC. Additionally, all invitations bearing the Governor’s name must be approved by her attorney before proceeding.

Thank you.Meghan Stapleton

Why in the hell would Palin need to run an appearance by her attorney?

She is a private citizen now. Isn't she?

And by the way Meghan, that is EX-Governor Palin now.

Or as we like to call her, the "Twitter Quitter".

  1. "Why in the hell would Palin need to run an appearance by her attorney?"

Speculation: She is under indictment and her attorney must get permission from the Court for her to leave the State?
Honestly, I can see NO other reason an attorney would have to give permission. Baffling.

Really, what's up with using the title "Governor"?

Palin made a huge point about not being wrapped up in titles.

Random thoughts about why Sarah has suddenly gone silent and quit even the most friendly atmosphere for a speech (no media, Republicans only):
    1. She's in rehab
    2. She's on a strict detox and bowel cleanse
    3. Plastic Surgery
    4. She is the Manchurian candiate, and the people pulling the strings just yanked hers
    5. She really thought that Letterman would be fired and she would get his show
    6. She can't spell the word "Chapter" and it's hard getting starting on that book without the proper heading at the top of the page
    7. Wants to spend more time with her family
    8. Super Salmon Catch, needed at the fishing grounds
    9. She won't pay for the Blackberry now that it has to come out of her own pocket
    10. Can't text with a sprained wrist (shook too many hands at too many picnics)
    11. Can't go out, nothing to wear now that they took back the fabulous wardrobe
    12. Can't appear as even former Governor Sarah Palin because that would be trading on her (former)office in receiving a speaking fee. Isn't that rule supposed to hold for two years after leaving office? (Hint to Sarah: drop the title and you can collect the money).
    13. Forgot her password again, (the kid in TN will help her out)
    14. Iceberg Alert!

In a closet with lawyers, no tweeting allowed and only mouthpiece can put out another disastrous statement. Can we say someone in hiding is very scared? Does Meg know she is promoting a vision of a very looney paranoid crazy person? In her way she is begging for money.

Where did the rumor about the lawyers come from? I think it could be a ruse to threaten and scare. If they are going to file, what? It is either something unknown to everyone else and or bogus on their part. Aren't they getting into SLAPP if the latter is the case?

Maybe all her hair plugs failed to take.

I think what Meg is trying to say is that if any outside groups want to include Ms. Palin's name on an invitation to one of their events, they must clear it with her lawyer.

I don't think throwing the Simi Republican Women under the bus bodes very well for Ms. Palin's future with the GOP.

Earlier today, I half-jokingly advised the friends of Sarah who patrol this website that a tiny video camera or recording device + an enterprising reporter/blogger could enter the Simi Valley Speech and report on Palin. Did they take it seriously? Is that all it takes to scare her? Wow! This website sure is powerful!!! Great work, Gryphen!

the link to the "rest of the story" was written by the lawyer who drafted the ATF, and it is nothing but a whine about how somehow President Obama's law firm found this fund illegal (WTF?) but it was the same fund language as used for John Kerry.

Now, having read the fund language, it seems this is an inaccurate statement since this fund (ATF) says it can be used for any purposes. However, the issue that this lawyer never addresses is that in Alaska, there are state ethics laws which prohibit such a fund. That is why the fund was found to violate the ethics laws, as I understand it.

Conveniently, this "lawyer" spends the whole article whining and never gets around to that point.

Odd for a party so big on "state's rights", eh?

Oh well- another Palin mouthpiece, another spin on reality.

  16. The department of law notifies the media if what is going to happen in court makes them look good. If it is something which makes them look bad no notification. Could be Sherry Johnston's hearing was just a continuation or something boring though. I guess Wasilla is not on court view I can't find it.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Anon. at 7:00--Sherry's hearing is tomorrow, 7/31 at 11:00 am. I just checked the court records.

Regarding the article in the Fayette Daily News: I read the article and the author is whining that the trust complies with all the trust laws, waa, waa, waa. He totally misses the point that the issue is with respect to ETHICS laws that bind the state executives, not with trust law. He even states that Daniels did not explain what the problem was.

In fact, Daniels did distinguish compliance with STATE ethics laws applicable to SOA executives from FEDERAL laws governing federal officeholders. Daniels stated that the federal laws did not apply to SP but that the state laws did. That is why the senators could have their trust funds--the federal laws are DIFFERENT from Alaska state law. It looks like the high priced attorneys who prepared the trust forgot to review state ethics laws when drafting the trust. Malpractice maybe??

Randy Evans was part of the team who worked on the trust. He is a Georgia attorney, so he's not too familiar with Alaska ethics rules.

CNN got ahold of a spokeswoman for the Simi Valley Republican Women. Asked WHO accepted the invitation initially, spokesperson said "No Comment." I know one of these women. Despite our opposing political views, I will say this: They are extremely proper, polite and well-connected.
I interpret the "no comment" as "If you cannot say something nice, say nothing at all." Based on our polite conversation, I gathered that the group is NOT terribly disappointed at this turn of events. The invitation was extended and "accepted" before Palin quit her office.

    1. She just wanted people to think she had the gravitas to speak at the Reagan Library. Even Colin Powell on Larry King the other day referenced her upcoming speech there. If they cancelled- no matter what lyin' Meg Stapleton says- why didn't they make it public at the time?
    2. Now we know why her legal expenses are so high/ she can't even go to the bathroom without clearing it. An ethical attorney would advise his client that legal services are not necessary when one is deciding whether or not to speak at a political event.
    3. Pissing off a bunch of well-heeled California Republicn women is further proof of Palin's true political acumen.

It wouldn't cost her a thing to answer the phone and tell a representive yes or no and then there would be no question if she was going to accept an invitation or not. She is also not confirmed at the so called Value Voters Summit. Focus On The Family puts this on. They are giving Bill O'Reilly a honor "Media Courage Award" for standing for truth againist abortion, like calling Dr. Tiller the baby killer, and fanning the flames of hate. Tony Perkins is also behind the lastest lying commerical saying the health care bill will pay for abortions and kill old people. The invatitions list to Value Voters sounds like a Faux Noise line up. Family values indeed, the worst of the worst. To be a "Christian" all you have to do is be against abortion, gays and minorities. anon @ 8:40 - from what I can gather, the Simi Republican Women did NOT cancel HER. Rumor is that they were told Sarah would come, but could not "officially" commit while still in office - but they were told she WOULD be there, thus all of the press releases and ticket sales. They were going on a verbal, since she could not "formally" commit while in Gov's office. Not a good idea to take Palin's staff at their word, if I am being told the correct scoop.
My theory is that this would have been a perfect venue for Sarah, meshing her with St. Ronnie, she the new Ronald Reagan. Then again, Michael Reagan said some negative things on Fox about Sarah's quitting, so maybe Sarah got mad (she DOES get angry/offended easily) and changed her mind about apprearing.

Meg saying governor for Palin is WRONG at this time.

Whatever the protocol for a quitter Xgov, you would think Meg would respect Governor Parnell and help people adjust to referring only to him as Governor for now. This is a transitional time. For Meg to carry on the fantasy only creates more chaos and makes Palin appear crazy to cling on to the title Palin said she didn't need. Too bad they are well behaved and have common sense.

Meg is not respecting Governor Parnell and she is a negative distraction for the state.

The history books will be rich with their fruitcake stories. Alaska must have historians. What is the protocol for a quitter gov? What does Miss Manners say about a quitter gov? It's not like she was told she has months to live and had no choice but to quit.

If she was diagnosed with mental deterioration, it would have been better to let the public know. She would get sympathy and while it doesn't seem right that she is called gov as Governor Parnell is transitioning, it would be more tolerable.

People around Reagan knew of his problem long before the public. Those things are kept under wraps.

And what a completely bogus statement from Meg - they knew for weeks now that she was expected at this even - as it has been reported widely in the national media - if they had never planned on attending there is no excuse for not having quashed it when it was first made public and invitations went out!

The real question regarding use of "governor" as a title might be how is Eliot Spitzer referred to?

Howard Dean served 6 terms as governor of Vermont--he did not quit halfway through. There's a difference between serving a full term as governor of a state, and then retaining the honorific title, acknowledging past service, and choosing to quit halfway through, without any real reason.

"There's something about Sarah that's still unfathomable. You know it's there but cannot quite put a finger on.

An invisible mystical cloak wrapped around her?

Her presence causes a crowd to explode into a frenzy of enthusiasm and holding them riveted to her speech and hung on to her every word that is always simple plain spoken word, yet so resonates with the crowd and reaches deep into the heart of a listener.

It is an unknown quality. The quintessential nature of it may remain an unknowable unknown.
