Show this clip to any of your relatives who are afraid that the Obama health care plan is going to involve "death panels".

Just look at the rampant paranoia and fear mongering that issues forth from the Newt's mouth and then pay attention the cool calm rebuttal by Dr. Dean. A man, by the way, who has actually worked in health care and knows what the hell he is talking about.

  1. Geez, I got one cold chill at $P's assertion that government might euthanize "less productive" members of society... here I sit, noodling around on the Internet and reading most of the day. I'd better get PRODUCTIVE by some measurable standard, or it's curtains for me!

  2. Where is the rampant paranoia? I didn't see any, only measured statements that between 45 brand new and unelected, bureaucratic government agencies all with some level of power over medical care some of them are going to agree with Washington State that they won't cover cancer care but will pay for assisted suicide. That is something that is happening now because of government. Why is it inconceivable that government might do it again?

HOW TO HELP OBAMA: We ALL need to attend every town hall meeting that we can this month. The media, our leaders, and our President need to see that the majority of us want a national health care plan. So far, the media has focused on the screaming disrupters. We need to outnumber them HUGELY so the media can focus on us. If we do not show up, we will regret it later; it will be seen as apathy. Showing up at your local town hall meetings will show support for our President and his plan. PLEASE GO!

  5. beaglescout - I'm going to say this once, in plain English so you understand it.

If you choose to opt out, go ahead and do it. If you are so incredibly STUPID as to believe that your government wants to kill you (perhaps because you lack brain energy), then go on drugs.

Your comments make no literal sense to anyone with even 1/4 of a brain.

Have you READ the actual bill because I have and I have a copy on my desktop.

You go read it, come back with your questions and have page numbers to back them up.

    Until then, STFU.

And by the way, NO MEDICARE or SOCIAL SECURITY FOR YOU since you obviously want nothing to do with the Federal Government.

    Got that?

  6. Dear Beaglescout,

How come they have a simple, nonprofit, single-payer government run insurance in so many countries, all people are covered, no one lives in fear about health care - and the governments aren't killing people?
The stuff that goes on in this country is like a horror story to the people of Canada and Europe.

  7. I can see Newt sort of searching for the industry rebuttal, can't ya?

My husband just received a note from our "new" insurance company -- they covered us prior to my husband being laid off, and now we're re-enrolling on our own -- and because he had two benign polyps removed almost three years ago, they will NOT cover ANY related procedure/testing/etc. related to colo-rectal issues.

Polyps, if left undetected, can become cancerous. So my insurance company is telling us they will NOT cover him for preventative care. And what's more, should those polyps come back and NOT be found, they won't cover him for cancer care either. So I'd ask that jackass Citizen Sarah Palin: Just WHO is the death panel in this scenario -- the government or the insurance company whose propaganda war you're soldiering up for?

  8. As I said on Huffington Post this morning. Newt Gingrich is a man who years ago said that a woman cannot be president because she has an "illness" every month. That is how much he knows about health care. He also was not to be trusted by his wife when she had cancer, that is when he divorced her. Let's trust that he cares about all of us. People he doesn't know.

No matter what I say, I still can't get my elderly Mom calmed down about healthcare reform...they have her convinced that euthanasia will be used. If anyone has any suggestions, I'd appreciate them, because my Mother is really freaking out. This is a really awful thing to be doing to elderly people who have worked hard all their lives.

  10. Memo to Palin: HERE is what is "evil" -
Down Syndrome babies are NOT covered by insurance plans - it is considered a "pre-existing condition." You said "the world needs more Trigs." OK, ever wonder why parents abort when they find out they are carrying a DS baby?
Because they cannot get medical coverage for the child, that's why. So, you want to promote abortion now?
Pure evil death panels = insurance companies, you pro-abortion moron.

  11. Jen: I'm sorry for your problems. Frequently if you re-enroll they will "rider" pre=existing conditions for a specific period of time (1-2 years depending upon the condition). Have you tried appealing on the basis that you have been continually covered - therefore you are not "new" to them? Try and negotiate, and ask for a temporary rider? It's worth the effort certainly.

THIS is what the Insurance Industry plans to do to people. This is what Gingrich and Palin stand for.

Beaglescout: Oh so you are saying that if a person chooses DNR that is "assisted suicide? WTF is wrong with you asshats? If you are in a accident that makes you BRAIN DEAD (not that you aren't already) do you want to be kept alive by respirators and everything that goes with that?
My elderly father had a DNR paper taped to his cabinet in his house, if he had a major stroke or anything he didn't want all that, life support BS. He wanted to die with dignity.
Admit it! You and all your ilk is against this because it was one of President's Obama's goals and since your a racist pig and want him to fail, this is part of your GAME PLAN.
I hope all you repubs cancel your medicare, the politicians cancel their govt health care. save us real Amerikan's alot of money by god.

  13. Gryphen, I heard an interview on NPR today with the head of this right wing lobby group who is responsible for hiring and sending those folks out to protest at the town meetings. He said the best thing that has come out of it is when "liberal bloggers" express their anger and outrage on their blogs about the protests. He said that is when their membership goes up. They get more hits on their sites and more volunteers for the protests. He said that the bloggers are directly responsible for increased turnout amongst their ranks. Maybe we should ignore them online for a while? I don't know. I would do anything to stop the protesters. We need health care reform in this country and we need it now.

  14. anon@5:37: A couple of questions - is your mother on Medicare or Medicaid?
Print out a copy of the Health Care Bill and help her go through the parts she is concerned about.

Does she have a physician? Have him/her speak with her.

Does she have an ATTORNEY? Does she have a Living Will? If she has an attorney, he/she can explain to her that her wishes would be controlled only by her or a designated representative,

Does she have a Living Will? (My folks and I had this discussion). Wouldn't she want to express herself so she would know she'd be taken care of according to her own wishes?

Try this: ask her about her mother/father/aunt/uncle's experiences? Doesn't she want to set her own thoughts down for you and her family so you will honor her wishes?

You also may want to ask her why she chooses to believe this? What is it about this that makes it believable - ask her to explain why she thinks it is true? Make her explain "why" she feels this way, what has frightened her and why she chooses to believe this type of information when she's )?) lived here all her life. Has she ever seen this happen?

Is she familiar with Sen. Joseph McCarthy? How about J. Edgar Hoover?

Isn't it nice what the idiots have done to our seniors and our elderly?

Anonymous @ 9:27 PM said... Palin never said anything about euthanasia in her facebook comments. Once again, she is being misquoted.**

Here is quoted exactly what she said:

**The America I know and love is not one in which my parents or my baby with Down Syndrome will have to stand in front of Obama’s “death panel” so his bureaucrats can decide, based on a subjective judgment of their “level of productivity in society,” whether they are worthy of health care**

So if she was not talking about the forced death of people from lack of health care, why exactly did she call it a "death panel" & insinuate that people like her parents and her downs syndrome child would be forced to be without health care because somehow they are "unworthy"? More of that rhetoric simply to stir up the passions of people and mislead them? There is simply no language in the Health Care bill that deems one person more "worthy" of care over another, so she is deliberately "making things up", which isn't unusual for her, it's just now people aren't going to allow her to get away with it. She is being called out on her lies nowadays and her fans just don't like that fact!

Too Bad, So Sad, Get over it, because Palin's free ride is OVER!

anonymous 9:27 - do you know wha euthanasia is? that most certainly is what she was talking about.
eutanasia is not a "continent" in asia...

    or a country.

Good go, no wonder you people like her so much.

PS anonymous 9:27- so, are you suggesting that what she said about "death panels: is correct?

Find it in the bill and get back to us.

  20. Gryphen, I've just watched a very revealing interview with Wendell Potter, a former executive of the health insurance company CIGNA. Potter admits that the health insurers were very concerned about Michael Moore's SiCKO and unleashed a dirty tricks campaign to discredit him and the movie. The insurance industry wants no competitors and especially not a more efficient government-run health care system - Medicare's admin expenses are 3%, theirs around 20%. Potter has told Congress that the health insurers have hijacked the health care system and turned it into a giant ATM for Wall Street, and maintains that a government plan would help to keep the insurers honest.

There's lots more... this is a 37 minute clip that I found on the Mindless Mumblings of a Martyr Mom blog. The blog link:
