You absolutely have to visit the Mudflats and read this amazing post today. I am sorry but I simply must insist.

I realize that many of you visit the Mudflats as part of your daily internet reading, but just in case there are a few of you who have not made it over there today I feel it incumbent on me to point the way.

The post is from a teacher at a Title One school and her story of the children's reaction to President Obama's speech to the schoolchildren. It touched my heart and I believe it will touch yours as well.

(You know the drill, just click the title and be magically transported to Mudflat-land.)

Children are the future of this world. It is chilling this is being compared to 1963. You'd think we should have 'evolved' since then. But with the GOP these days, we've devolved back to the 15th century. Sad.

This is seriously OT, but since we are fans and readers of Gryphen's blog, I recommend a short article in today's Parade Magazine, suppliment to the Sunday papers. For some reason, nothing wants to cut-&-paste here, so you can read the article at: http://www.tinyurl.com/ncw2wq

Online Comments Spark Lawsuits. Rebecca Webber writes "People have the right to free speech," explains Matt Zimmerman, senior staff attorney at the Electronic Frontier Foundation, which defends digital rights. "But they've never had the right to defame someone. They still don't."
The general rule is that you can be held responsible for spreading false statements that hurt someone's reputation, whether you post them online, publish them in a newspaper or whisper them at a cocktail party."

Gryphen, I think that you have a defamation suit against some nasty bloggers who spread false rumors about you that may have impacted your life in a negative way. If the Electronic Frontier Foundation isn't your organization, maybe this is something that the ACLU might be interested in, since this is something that affects so many people, writing or being written about.
