The Alaska Commons reports on the future for the LGBT community in Anchorage and, just in time for Halloween, provides another look inside ABT.

After the uber-successful "Diversity Dinner" some have wondered what the LGBT crowd has in store next. Clicking the title of this post should answer that question for you.

As many of you know about a month ago I attended an anniversary service at the Anchorage Baptist temple. I had asked if any of my LGBT friends wanted to attend with me, and did not find any takers. Here John Aronno explains his hesitancy.

I couldn’t imagine walking into that “church”. Alaska Commons is not an anonymous blog (probably an oversight, in retrospect) and ABT has made their disapproval of me very well known. This site, and my email inbox, now has a devoted, albeit small, group of trolls who threaten and denigrate me at every opportunity (I had an op-ed in the Northern Light a couple weeks ago about the concept of holding doors open for people and driving safely, and got blasted for that!). We’ve had to go unlisted, and have had a few public issues. Even one earlier this evening, at Fred Myer, where a man locked eyes with me and stood in my way, demanding an apology.

Weird times.

It is always difficult for me to understand how an organization that claims to base it's set of values on the teachings of Jesus Christ can encourage this kind of behavior. But they do.

And if you don't believe that then you need to take a moment to watch this frightening YouTube video that John put together.

"Crushing the enemy under our feet". No you did not hear that wrong.

I was sitting in the audience when they were singing that song and watched the congregation, with heads lifted toward the heavens, belt out that song with both conviction and passion.

They DO believe with all of their hearts that they are fighting a battle against the devil, and that the LGBT community are his agents here on earth.

Is it any wonder that I found no takers to accompany me on that Sunday? Who could blame them?

I on the other hand? Well that is a different story altogether.

  1. Jesus told his followers to continue to spread the news of God's Kingdom. He did NOT spew hate when people did not listen. He just moved on. It's called Free Will. Biblically, a sin is a sin yet, these people who claim to be Christians have focused their attention on People who live alternative lifestyles. Do they even realize that if they themselves have sex with their spouse other than vaginally, that would be a sin? Do they even realize that adultery, stealing, lying, gluttony, etc. is equally sinful? Even hate is a sin.
The Bible says that any man who did ANY of these things, would not inherit God's Kingdom. These clowns need to condemn ALL sins equally if they want to be credible.
"Crushing the enemy under our feet" is NOT their job. Have they lost so much faith in God that they feel the need to do His job? Have they forgotten that in Romans 12:19 it says "Vengeance is mine; I will repay, says the Lord"? Verse 17 says to "Return evil to evil to one".
The Devil must be jumping with glee to have so many self proclaimed Christians filled with so much hate. Maybe they should have stuck to just preaching about God's Kingdom. THAT is all they are supposed to do anyway.

  2. I'd like a chapter and verse on that "Christ nixes sexual perversity" thing your man in the ABT goes on about. I suspect that Jesus said no such thing -- at least outside of the rather newish conservative version of the bible. Also too, seems like I recall he hung out quite a bit with prostitutes.

It occurs to me -- was it ever specified that the prostitutes were women-only, and did not include dudes? Seems like it would be odd if they *were* all women...

Talk about taking God's name in vain. Most people (especially where I live in the south), they think taking the Lords name in vain means to say God D... (cussing). Actually it means when "you speak as if you were God." Man is not allowed to speak for God. When I point this out to my religious friends, and tell them to goggle it, they have come back to me with D... you are right, I didn't know that. So all you Satanic Christian's better beware, Satan has taken your soul. LOL

    Oh, now I get it!

They carry God's word in their "hand." Maybe if they carried in their hearts, where it belongs, they would have a little better understanding of what more rational folks consider "Christianity" to be and stand for...

    And they believe that:

...they're supposed to crush their enemies under their feet. Yet, the Rabbi that they are misrepresenting taught that we are to "love our enemies."

The "not flesh and blood darkness" they "need" to be crushing is actually the shadow of their own collective ignorance--they are just simply too short sighted to see it...maybe they will figure that one out, sooner or later.

    In the meantime..

It looks like the pews are full--full of Satan's little army, that is--willing to exploit their children and make them carry signs filled with words of misunderstanding and hatefulness.

Fill up those pews! Fill that church up to the rafters! When the "rapture" comes (yet another false teaching), it is "Satan," himself that will know right where find them. They are making it all sooo much easier for him...

Sadly, these people don't care enough about themselves or their children to stop and really think about the "flim flam" that they are paying someone to program them with--put your money in the collection plate, folks, and the "good reverend" will, under the threat of hell and damnation, brainwash you and your children with what "he wants you to think and believe"--whether it is true or not. As a bonus, he will teach you some pretty little songs to sing in praise of your own foolishness.

I do read Matthew, Mark, Luke and John from time-to-time and, from what I read there, the man about whom those books were written would be disgusted to even have his name used in many of the same, ugly sentences the reverend arrogantly spouts.

My hope is that at least one troll visiting this site tonight stops, thinks and long considers why he or she, born with free will, allows him or herself to be manipulated by these phony preachers. Is it fear? Is it the need to be part of a group--any group, just so long as you don't feel alone in this world? Is it because you haven't learned to think for yourself? Do you believe that you will spend eternity in burning hell if you don't take it upon yourself to make someone else's life a hell here on earth? Or, does that just make you feel better about yourself--superior to those "sinners?"

As you go to sleep tonight and every night, ask yourself: What is the true meaning of "Do unto others as I would have them do unto me." And, each morning, when you wake up, try very hard to give yourself an honest answer.

I agree, Jesus would never have endorsed this vile interpretation of the Bible, and all that the man, Jesus, stood for. It's this particular brand of hate, greed, and exclusion that's disturbing, because people are lulled into believing "If he says it...it MUST be true".

  6. I woke up with that song going through my head and I can't get it out. Thanks, Gryphen.

Don't feed the trolls!
It just goes directly to their thighs.
