A you can see Sarah once again disembarks from the plane holding her favorite prop, just like she has been filmed doing in virtually every single stop along her book tour. At this point the walk down the stairs with little Trig almost appears to be a parody of itself. It is almost as if she fears she will be unrecognizable without her little Down Syndrome baby firmly attached to her hip. Well that and her omnipresent furry purple top.
When high heels finally met pavement, Sarah was greeted by Samaritan's Purse founder Franklin Graham, son of famous televangelist Billy Graham.
Alaskans will remember Franklin Graham as the man who accompanied Sarah Plain, and Anchorage homophobe Jerry Prevo, in visiting two of the villages that had been devastated by bitter cold and lack of food and heating oil at the beginning of this year.
Of course the majority of Alaskans also know that over a month before this humanitarian trip/photo op the Alaska bloggers, talk radio hosts, and true samaritans had already helped get the villages through the crisis. I am sure it was nice for the villagers to get the cookies and bibles from Sarah Palin and Samaritan's Purse, but it was much too little, much too late.
At first I was amazed that Palin was willing to take questions from people at this airport, as she had not done so on previous stops. But then I heard the questions and realized this was a carefully chosen audience of supporters and she would not be asked anything too difficult. Still her answers are just as plump with "word salad" as usual.
This stop with the Graham's is clearly another attempt to define Sarah's "Christian cred" with the faithful, and to remind them that she is one of the torchbearers who will be moving the religion forward, and helping to further insinuate its influence on American politics.

I couldn't understand why the Tylenol wasn't working on my headache and why I could not get comfortable no matter what I tried. Am I coming down with something? (please let it be just a cold!). Now I know why I was feeling so bad - Scarah was just 2 hours away from me!!!!

Franklin is standing outside in 45-degree weather in an overcoat with an umbrella. Yet, little Trig is without socks, shoes, jacket or hat. Children with DS are susceptible to respiratory problems, aren't they? And didn't Trig just get over a cold?

The video is more propaganda than news. I had to stop watching early because I couldn't hear what was being said by the people outside the plane for the "background" music. Maybe what they want to do is make it difficult for people to hear what was being said? Just sayin'

Someone said in an earlier thread either here or at mudflats that because we were all commenting on how she never kisses or holds him much (other than for an opening photo op) that she would soon begin playing with him or kissing him on camera. Now, if we could just get her to dress him appropriately.
ReplyDeleteI just have to say something that has been percolating in my heart for a while, but be forewarned it's not very kind: considering how she endangered Trig with wild ride from TX to AK (assuming - and it's a big assumption - that the pregnancy was real) and considering how poorly she has handled him, dressed him, and seemingly been unworried about his security - well, I kind of wonder if part of her is sorry she is stuck with him. It's almost as if he gets sick and dies, oh, well, another sad little anecdote to add to her victim saga.
I know, I should feel badly about thinking that, but honestly, I just cannot believe she cares very much about Trig (or any of her kids for that matter - perhaps her constant ranting about protecting them is a little of the "protesting too much" sort.

... but there is another thought that has been nagging, and one I have not seen addressed:
What are the ramifications of repeated flights wich the resultant changes in air and cabin pressure doing to an infant with an already inadequately functioning heart and respiratory system? Can someone with more medical knowledge address this and point out the true carelessness with which this innocent
child is handled? Feel free to add a stronger term.

I wonder if Trig was asleep when they landed, so he was just scooped up and dragged out to disembark. If you look at the very beginning of the video, when he is handed off to Piper, you will see he looks like he might have just awakened.

Billy Graham's kid came to Alaska back in 1970 to sow some wild oats.
Thirty-six years later, a Yu'pik Eskimo village ravaged by fire is reaping the rewards.
When fire swept through Hooper Bay in August, Franklin Graham -- son of Billy Graham, friend of George W. Bush and head of one of the largest's Christian charities on the planet -- had a front row seat to the devastation.
Call it luck, fate or perhaps something even more spiritual. But Graham happened to be in Alaska the day of the fire. The next day, he was on a twin-engine turboprop headed to Western Alaska, and now here we are two months later and the roofs just went up on five new Hooper Bay homes thanks to Graham and his charity.
Actually, it wasn't luck or fate that put Franklin Graham in Alaska that August day. He was here because he's here all the time. He's got a home on Lake Clark, an office in Soldotna and a love for the outdoors that brings him north for a few months every year.
He's not enough of an Alaskan to collect a Permanent Fund dividend check or pay in-state hunting fees, but he's enough of one to preach at Jay Hammond's funeral, fly his own plane and hang grizzly hides in his North Carolina office.
Graham, 54, first came to Alaska in 1970, several years before becoming an evangelist like his dad.
"When I came to Alaska, that was the last thing I wanted to do," he said. "I was as wild as anyone up there."
He stayed for a few months, working on the North Slope and in Nome, then moved on to other adventures.
"Maybe 15 or 20 years ago I came back, and I've been coming back every year since," he said. "I feel like it's my second home."
Not long ago he opened an office in Soldotna for Samaritan's Purse, the international relief group he heads. The office is the base for mission work in Russia's Far East and Alaska's rural villages.
Graham was at the Soldotna office the day of the Hooper Bay fire, which wiped out 14 homes in the village of 1,100.
"I decided right then to go out and take a look at it," he said. "When I saw the remoteness and realized these families weren't going to be in a house anytime soon, we just decided we were gonna do what we can. They need help and they've gotta have it now. If you sit around and talk and plan, well, winter's coming."
Graham turned Hooper Bay into a high-profile cause for Samaritan's Purse, which does about $200 million worth of charity work around the world every year.
Every day for the month of September, the home page of the organization's Web site -- usually the domain of major disasters like Hurricane Katrina and the Asian tsunami -- was dominated by two big photos of Hooper Bay and the words "Devastation in Alaska."
Ever since, scores of volunteers have gone to Hooper Bay from all over the United States to help build homes for five of the 14 families who lost everything. The families getting them were identified as the neediest by tribal leaders, said Luther Harrison, the project leader for Samaritan's Purse. The goal is to have the families moved in by Nov. 17, and so far everything's on schedule.

Pasley said he scammed thousands of dollars from Prideaux. Once, he accepted $10,000 from Prideaux to kill Joe Bonanno and his son, Bill, because Prideaux had become convinced that the Bonannos were blocking his high-rise project. Pasley said the plan called for shooting them with an AR-15 assault rifle at a North Side steak house.
In his own book, Bonanno discusses his wife's "Recipe of Life," and he goes on and on about how much he loves his dog. Hiding behind God and Country, Bonanno recalls praying with Billy Graham at the gangster's home in Tucson, and his tone seems to indicate that his eyes well up every time he hears the National Anthem.
KTUU (NBC Anchorage) is running an interview with Palin and the local sportscaster John Carpenter. More softball questions - is that why they chose a sportcaster? If you haven't seen it yet, the clip that was shown at 6:00 was a new low in using Trigg as a prop. Wait until you see it! Gryphen, I hope you will be able to link it. Graham's son set to officiate at Hill funeral

A 43-year-old Baptist minister, who at different times lived with evangelist Billy Graham and reputed crime boss Joseph Bonanno, is to be buried Saturday by Graham's son.
David Lee Hill Jr., himself a world-traveled evangelist, was found dead Wednesday evening in his home in Terrell Hills. He had been ailing and was under medical care, police said.
David Lee Hill's father, David "Tex" Hill, was the founder and leader of the famous Flying Tigers fighter unit during World War II and still lives in San Antonio.
The Bexar County Medical Examiner's Office has not ruled on the cause of death pending results of toxicology tests that could take several weeks, a spokesman said.
The Rev. Franklin Graham of Boone, N.C., a longtime friend of Hill, will officiate at his funeral at 3 p.m. Saturday in First Presbyterian Church, where Hill's grandfather was an early pastor. Found by father Terrell Hills police Sgt. Kevin McCarville said Hill was found by his father about 8:30 p.m. Wednesday in his house in the 300 block of Burr Road.
McCarville said Hill's father tried to call him but got no answer, so he asked Charlie Martin, another tenant in the house, to check on him.
Martin saw Hill through a window lying on his bed and called the father, who discovered the body.
McCarville said police found no indication of foul play.
Hill was being treated for abdominal problems, including pancreatitis and was on medication, McCarville said.
"That type of medication was found at the scene but there was no indication he had ODed (overdosed) or anything like that," he said.
On Monday, Hill had been sentenced to four years' probation in federal court for failing to file income-tax returns in 1982 and 1983.
According to court testimony, Hill solicited funds from wealthy Dallas followers for cancer research, but used them on himself.
Hill's grandfather, the Rev. P.B. Hill, was a chaplain for the Texas Rangers and from 1921-40 was pastor of the First Presbyterian Church.
He was said to have carried a pistol on his hip and a Bible in his hand, according to his 1958 obituary. He was designated state poet laureate in 1954 by the Texas Legislature and was a 32nd degree Mason.
David Hill lived with reputed Mafia boss Bonanno in 1968 in Tucson, Ariz., and is the subject of a chapter in Bonanno's autobiography.
He was ordained as a minister in Castle Hills Baptist Church in 1973. Later, he was Billy Graham 's house guest for two years.
The Rev. P.B. Hill was a longtime friend of the Rev. Billy Graham 's father-in-law, said Drew Fuller, whose wife is a cousin of Hill's.
"In 1971, David went to visit (Graham's father-in-law) in North Carolina. It was through that meeting that David came to faith in Christ and began a friendship with Billy Graham 's son, Franklin Graham," Fuller said. "David began preaching throughout the world and saw a lot of Franklin and his family. Franklin said he'd seen David just a month ago," Fuller said.
He said Franklin Graham recently told him the one thing for which he would remember Hill was that "he was passionate about helping lost men and women come to faith in Christ.
"Whether he was actively preaching or walking down the street and someone said something to him, David would stop and talk about his faith.
"He perceived that as his calling," Fuller said.

You are correct that the audience of well wishers was carefully selected among the most loyal Republicans in the local party. No one who had said anything negative about her was even told of the meeting until afterwards.
ReplyDeleteShe also met with a select group of local conservative bloggers privately, who provided her with information about the local political scene. Who could be trusted, and who could not. I understand that Franklin Graham sent cars for several of them and that they are not talking about (except for cryptic remarks on their blogs, Nings and facebook pages) what was said during their time with Palin.
Regarding Franklin Graham's friend, David Hill, that was mentioned earlier. I understand that he finished a manuscript exposing freemasonry right before he died. Does anyone know if it is possible to get a copy of the manuscript? I believe it never was published.

I have to first of all give praise to whoever created your theme and second of all to you for writing what i can only describe as an fabulous article. I honestly believe there is a skill to writing articles that only very few posses and honestly you got it. The combining of demonstrative and upper-class content is by all odds super rare with the astronomic amount of blogs on the cyberspace.
