Snippet of Sarah Palin interview on Oprah. Oh god the laugh! It is so eeevill!

Top seven signs that somebody is lying. How many can YOU spot?

1. No eye contact. Generally, if someone is lying they will not look you in the eye, at least during a certain part of the conversation. Normally, people make eye contact for at least half of a conversation, so anything less than this could be suspicious. One caveat: there are some people who will take great pains to make eye contact with you even if they're lying, simply to make you think they're not.
2. Change in voice. A change in the pitch of a person's tone, or a lot of stammering (umm, ah), or throat clearing could indicate a lie.
3. Unusual body language. If a person taps their foot a lot, fidgets with their hands, raises their shoulders, turns away from you or brings their hand to their face (to touch their chin or nose, etc.) -- in other words, if they act nervous or uncomfortable -- it could mean they're telling a lie. Also watch out for blushing (or becoming pale) and increased blinking.
4. Something sounds fishy. Making statements that contradict each other, are inconsistent or don't sound quite right are usually part of a lie.
5. Overly defensive. Sometimes when a person is lying they will become extremely defensive, refusing to answer any questions and even accusing you of lying. This may mean they have something to hide.
6. Changes subject easily. If someone is lying and you change the subject, chances are high that they'll go right along with it. A person telling the truth, however, will likely ask why you changed the subject and want to go back to it.
7. Humor or sarcasm. A guilty person will often try to change the subject using humor or sarcasm.

Okay not to belabor the point, but the laugh that issues forth after Oprah asks about Levi coming over for Thanksgiving is downright maniacal! The first thought that came to me was "bone chilling". And then her verbal response afterward just makes her seem even more bat-shit crazy.

Not only do I think Levi should not accept an invitation to dinner, I think he should stay the hell out of Wasilla on Thanksgiving! I mean holy crap!

The Huffington Post has some excerpts from the book for your perusal as well.

Here is one excerpt that is getting a lot of attention:

And she says that most of her legal bills were generated defending what she called frivolous ethics complaints, but she reveals that about one-tenth of the $500,000 was a bill she received to pay for the McCain campaign vetting her for the VP nod.

She said when she asked the McCain campaign if it would help her financially, she was told McCain's camp would have paid all the bills if he'd won; since he lost, the vetting legal bills were her responsibility.

I just heard on Hardball that the McCain campaign is calling this allegation "completely untrue" and "outrageous". (You can see that Hardball segment here.)

Are they suggesting that Sarah Palin is a liar?

You know I am guessing there will be a lot of that in the near future.

Update: Here is the quote from the McCain staffer. (Thanks Mona!)

"That is one hundred percent untrue," said the McCain official, who would only speak on the condition of anonymity in deference to McCain. "All those bills are from her personal attorney Thomas Van Flein, mostly relating to the Troopergate investigation and other ethics investigations. It is not legal to pay for those investigations out of general election funds, even if the campaign was so inclined."

Oh snap! Even Meg Stapletongue will not back her up on this one.

"The book remains embargoed," Stapleton said in an e-mail to CNN. "The Governor will appear on Oprah first to discuss the book's contents.”

Uh oh! When even your most faithful pet attack poodle will not back you up there is a good chance you are telling a lie that the facts will not support.

I spent many years in a job where I had to decide whether people were telling the truth or lying by watching their body language and what they said. Since day one, I have questioned Sarah's ability to tell the truth. In my opinion, the woman lies...lies...LIES.

I might have to rethink my position on Oprah's thing here. It looks to me like she's fed up with Sarah Palin. It looks like she regrets having her on. It looks like she sees right through her. Too bad that the fools that watch this who are $P fanatics will think she hit the jackpot being on Oprah.

Let's see how this shakes out. Hmm?

Oh and the book? This is gonna be good. I'm buying stock in popcorn.

On MSNBC, they have been seriously discussing Sarah's political future as the GOP's 2012 candidate. (Keith Olbermann's joke was that they should have priced "Going Rogue" at $20.12, LOL). Nora O'Donnell and Andrea Mitchell noted that the book tour bus looks more like a campaign bus. The stops are in battle ground states, not good marketing places.

It is hard to imagine the GOP embracing Sarah after she trashes some of them in her book. One lesson that she should have learned from McCain was to court the press (media), not to insult them. Katy did not badger Sarah; Sarah did not prepare and gave poor answers. Charlie did not look down on Sarah (other than the fact that she is probably shorter than he is). He asked her a question to which she had no good answer (in what regard, Charlie?).

Sarah may be "running" for President, which allows her to maintain a PAC and keep collecting contributions. The contributions will pay for keeping Sarah in the public eye, a speech here, an appearance there, more contributions to the PAC. It's a viscious circle that keeps feeding itself.

I don't think that she has a serious chance at running. First, it's become a two year ordeal; Sarah ran for VP for two months and didn't do the homework. There would be a series of serious debates; Sarah would not be able to keep fooling people with a wink and a laugh, ya betcha. Eventually, she does have to find some examples and deliver them.

Sarah has just enough garbage in her background that for 2012, the Babygate Business will be fair game. Levi may actually tell what he claims to know. The other candidates can be brutal if they know something about her. If she is trashing Republicans, she can hardly expect them to support her. And, Sarah is much too thin skinned to be a serious candidate, subject to daily criticism and scrutiny.

If Sarah was a serious candidate, she would have stuck out the job as governor. Being a quitter is not a good qualification for President. Sarah clearly left for the money, the $100,000. speeches (wow, they are just pouring in), and the millions of dollars in book sales. And, she likes being the center of attention for the book tour blitz. But, Sarah will continue to bombard us with tweets and Face Book posts in the pretext of being relevant, while she is one of the worst possible candidates that the GOP could field in 2012. On the other hand, Run, Sarah, Run! All she does, as MSNBC pointed out, is drive the GOP to the right and split them into factions. Run, Sarah, Run!

  12. I've changed my mind and will watch Oprah on Monday.

Great list - Palin definitely shows signs of #1 thru #4. She didn't answer the Thanksgiving invitation question and changes the subject to her loving, non-dramatic family. I guess that falls under #7 humor or sarcasm.

I've watched the clips over at Bree Palin but just noticed something new. She answers the Levi question in a continuously elevated pitch compared to the lower tone for most of the Couric answer. Major stress. She talks so fast her words almost run together.

Also, she looks down when she says that Levi has a beautiful baby...yeah, the one she's trying to take away from him.

Palin is one who can lie while staring directly at someone. She does her looking away and blinking before and/or after. This is not to say she never looks away when she's lying...just that the big ones get the stare. Does that make her a multi-talented tale teller?

Granting Sarah has been caught out is dozens of lies just in the single year after her nomination for VP -
but the list of lie clues listed are consistent with a variety of emotions, and situations that do not involve lying.

They are the same type of amateur psychology that the police use, and look at how often they are wrong and how often they terrify innocent people into false confessions. Yet they make hard and fast decisions about guilt on that kind assumption. Lie detectors are just as bad, they recognize agitation and fear, they do not recognize lies.

There is no absolute way to identify a liar by body language or voice inflection.
Proving a lie is sometimes simple or it may be difficult, and can become multidimensional, and often is impossible.

If however a liar is as fact challenged as Sarah, and yet continues to spout Palin Facts, then its easy, just check Wikipedia. Not her body language.

  22. haha, I thought she said that Levi was the most beautiful child... You can see that she never runs her fingers through her hair. That could be because it's such a structure with spray and add-ons but from my time on chemo when I occasionally wore a wig, I recognize the careful one finger way of touching her hair--you dont' want to cause it to shift!! . Another wig indication is bangs. It doesn't prove it but the thing about a wig is that the edge is the most revealing part so having bangs avoids an edge.

She lied about the Couric interview, because in her "How Obama Won..." ahem "interview", she watched the clip, then sniped something to the effect "Because, Katie, the WORLD does not revolve around YOU" (Paraphrasing)

Ripley 5:26 is right. Oprah was cool and caught on to Sarah. Look at Oprah's reactions. She lets Palin ramble on and on, then Oprah asks, "So is that yes or no?" And when Palin laughs like a maniac, Oprah gives the camera a look, like, 'What the hell?' Oprah did okay, and let the world see Palin for the nut she is without even having to get adversarial.

The more I read about how SP's apreciated her great childhood growing up in Alaska, the more I feel bad for her girls. They have had quite a different experience. At least Track had his hockey stint. Instead of high school sweathearts & basketball games, they have teen pregnancy, alcohol (& who knows what else) & tour buses. Good stuff!

  36. This comment is about her hair. OK, she is an idiot, but I think she looks good (if orange). Not "gaunt" like a lot have said. I do, however, think that there is a 90% chance that she is wearing a full-on wig. The way the hair looks when her head moves is not natural. I have a pretty high yardstick for this kind of stuff and I think that the hair is not hers. More freakishness.

The first thing I noticed is the wig. I actually feel sorry for her around that. I would be bummed out to lose my hair. Plus looks are so important to her. I think she looked better a year ago. Too much makup, something is very artificial. She may not take drugs-she looks/acts like someone with thyroid or other hormonal issues. That definitely would explain hair loss.

I can't believe she is so foolish to slam the McCain campaign people. This is going to seriously backfire. The problem is Sarah believes she is right about all of this. She has no clue how this makes her look. It is really petty at this point and no one wants a petty paranoid public official. She's not serious about running but she is going to be coy about it so her delusional fans keep sending money.
It's unreal how gullible her fans are and she clearly knows how to play them.

The next weeks are going to be nauseating with her trying to grab the spotlight. She will continue to lie, exaggerate and put others down and then blame the media. Ugh! No way am I going to watch her interviews. I will look at the highlights from Gryph and others! Sarah is probably already whining about the media, aren't you Sarah!! Maybe one day you'll look in the mirror, but I doubt you'd see. It's pathetic actually.

  44. AP has corrected the $500,000 number - it was $50,000 and the bill was from Van Flein, attorney hired by scarah (so WHY WOULD the campaign pay it?).
BTW - I really think there WAS Levi bashing in the book, and they took it out pre-printing, as Levi started to make it clear (on various tv shows) that he was not going to let it go without rebuttal.
Basically, the book bashes all of her perceived enemies (Couric, campaign handlers) and throws in her folksy/religious views.
Her facebook posts, on the other hand, (including today) talk about government and policy - the FB posts sound NOTHING like her (or her book).
Someone HAS to point out that the FB posts are ghost-written - OR insist she go on Meet the Press and talk like "she" writes on those FB posts (she can't).

    ReplyDelete
  45. Hmm, who really cares whether she is wearing a wig or not? Perhaps if we keep focusing on her physicality we will miss her message.

    Just sayin'.

I personally think she is a nice looking woman yet I detest her "being" and her "persona" and her "politics", however, I do think that she is attractive.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Anonymous8:01 PM

People are going to wake up after reading her complain in her book that the McCain campaign vetting bill ($50,000) wasn't paid for, when she knows her supporters' donations will cover it. Why complain? In the meantime as these book pages are going through the presses, her big turret mansion is being built.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Anonymous8:23 PM

At any rate, her cackling really shows how UN-presidential she is. Yes, she is wearing a wig in my opinion. She is very attractive and should have capitalized on being herself- a former governor turning into something credible-and gone into business- a cosmetic line or the fashion industry, not a leader of wingnuts and hurting our country. Oprah did a good job, I sure couldn't take talking with that woman without wanting to slap her or something. Just like the Couric and Gibson interview, Sarah does herself in.

    IN the WH in 2012.

You see, that's the problem. You don't seem to know squat about the U.S. Constitution or the election process.

It is true that the next presidential election is in 2012--however, the winner of that election will not be inaugerated until January of 2013. So, even in the outside chance -- and believe me it is waaayyy outside -- that SP should run and win in 2012, she wouldn't be inaugerated and move in to the WH until January, 2013.

You have posted a comment which makes it glaringly clear that you don't have a clue about how the election process works--it is simple high school civics, Anon @ 4:49.

Rather than spending all your time trying to annoy everyone by posting comments that prove your ignorance, why don't you spend some time expanding your mind with a little bit of accurate information about the U.S. government and how it works.

If you are young--hit the books and get an education. If you are older--hit the books and educate yourself, if necessary. Once you have a working knowledge, you will feel better about yourself and not feel that you have to post hit and run comments that you consider very wise and well informed--but actually reflect the exact opposite. Of course, I doubt that you will take this advise--and that is really unfortunate, but then, that is your loss--not ours.

I read (on HuffPo, I guess) that Palin agreed to the Katie Couric interviews because the McCain campaign handlers told her "she's a working mom, too, and she needs the ratings boost." I'm sure Katie will love THAT one!

Another interesting thing I just saw: in John Ziegler's interview with Palin for his documentary call HOW OBAMA WON, Palin talks about the "I didn't give birth to Trig" stories that were all over the blogs. She then "wished" that the mainstream media would investigate the facts and find out for themselves instead of passing on rumors.

Did he whine about how it wasn't his fault, it was the darn interviewer? Who obviously had emotional problems, or they wouldn't have played gotcha journalism? Well, he was a little busy doing the NEXT interview!
