I spent my Friday afternoon sitting in a darkened theater with dorky 3-D glasses on having my mind blown! Holy crap, was this movie good!
To be honest it is not really accurate to simply call this a movie, it is almost a religious experience. I have not enjoyed a movie THIS much since Jurassic Park, which made me decide at that moment that I had seen the most impressive thing Hollywood could bring to the screen. I was wrong.
Here is Countdown's take on the movie.

Oh and if you go, and you MUST go, make sure to watch the 3-D version. It will blow your socks off. I promise.
Gryph you are AWESOME!!!!!!!! Three cheers for the man! That's the best movie review ever! Woot woot!
ReplyDeleteGryph, your such a 'guy'. My husband and boy's are chomping at the bits to see this flick. My daughters and I? Not so much.
ReplyDeleteI didn't want to go either but my companion wanted to. It was GREAT. BEAUTIFUL, and what a message. Almost 3 hours long and I almost didn't go, but the time went by and I didn't even notice.
ReplyDeleteMy sons were dying to see this today, but they'll have to wait a bit--D.C. has gotten nearly two feet of snow, and it's still coming down. Not much by Alaskan standards, but it sure is here! A nice day to stay inside by the fire, and to putter in the kitchen. The first seating for lunch--corn chowder and home-baked Alaska (!) sourdough--has just been served.
ReplyDeleteChicken in mole sauce (that's pronounced "MOH-lay," and no burrowing critters are involved), tortillas, yellow rice, and black beans are on the menu for dinner so far. Not on the menu until tomorrow are homemade marshmallows for cocoa; I just scraped the sticky, fluffy snowdrift into the prepared pan, where it will rest until it is dusted with sugar, cubed, and separated to dry out just a little tomorrow.
And that's what's goin' down, along with snow, at Casa Biscuitbarrel today. Yes, Gryph is "such a 'guy,'" which is one reason I feel so at home with him! Here's a plate of virtual soup for you, Gryph!
We braved the two feet of snow (ok, alasans probably call that "flurries", but here it's a catastrophe. We saw "Everybody's Fine" then made it to see Avatar at an Imax theater. Both movies were great, but Avatar was absolutely amazing! It's not only well made, but it's a new genre in film making!
ReplyDeleteThe 3D tickets are more expensive that the flat screened version but WORTH EVERY PENNY! Cameron succeds in creating a believeable future world.
ReplyDeleteI think Avatar will appeal to both guys and gals. The mecha gear is kick-ass and the cat people are gorgeous.
LOVED IT!
I agree with you Gryphen. It WAS a religious experience. But try telling that to my husband! And he thinks I'm nuts for saying that I never want to see it in 2D. I want to own a theater so I can always watch in on a big screen and with 3D glasses and have the wonderful experience that I had.
ReplyDeleteI feel really bad that he doesn't feel the same way and that I can't talk to him about how it moved me, because it didn't really move him. Of course, he likes the damn Twilight movies. Ick.
