Here are some responses from yesterday's "Great Blogger Banning of 2009". Updated!

Shannyn Moore has written a piece and put it up on Huffington Post.

Mudflats-Banned in Wasilla? Palin Hides from bloggers: Once again, Palin has failed to realize that her efforts to ban access, her paranoia, and her use of uniformed police to act as her defacto security force is in itself a much bigger story than anything that Zaki could have filmed, or Gryphen could have written. Never let it be said that Sarah Palin couldn’t make a bad situation worse.

Politicususa: For someone who whines about her first amendment rights (which Palin interprets to mean her right to lie and insult others without pushback), Palin shows no respect for the real intention of the amendment.

DailyKos: What happened to those 1st amendment rights you are always "yakkin" about Sarah. Oh that's right I forgot, that is only for those who love "freedom"

Gawker: Remember the Alaska kindergarten teacher Palin threatened to serve libel papers to in front of his class? He went to a Going Rogueevent and discovered he is one of Palin's four worst enemies, banned from events via headshot dossier. (Okay not to nitpick, but I was a teaching assistant, and it was not my full time job. That job I still have.)

Do you know who should REALLY be on that Sarah Palin enemy list? Sarah Palin! NOBODY does more damage to her reputation than she does. Nobody!

Update: Here are some more media coverage.

Think Progress: From the comments section: What??? What the hell ever happened to FREE SPEECH????? (What indeed.)

Progressive Alaska: More messy aisle cleanups regarding the Crazy Woman today.

Talking Points Memo: Hastings told the Anchorage Daily News that "it wasn't in his (Zaki's) best interest to be here. He and others could have found themselves in a negative situation." But Zaki tells us he's covered plenty "of these tea bagging events and nobody does anything."

Tina Andreadis, a spokeswoman for Harper, tells TPMmuckraker that the company did rent out the arena and hired security for crowd control, as is routine. But Harper had no role in running the event, and no Harper personnel were sent to Wasilla. (Hmm interesting. I wonder if Harper Collins will throw Sarah under the bus over this?)

Raw Story: In what may be a trend in American politics, Sarah Palin is apparently banning bloggers who have written unfavorable articles about her from her book signings.

Upon arriving at Palin's hometown book-signing in Wasilla, Alaska, on Tuesday, two prominent Alaska bloggers discovered that they had been placed on a "banned list" and were asked by police to leave the premises.

One of my all time favorites Fark.com is also linking to the story.

Over at Celtic Diva's Blue Oasis we get to learn exactly what was going on inside the Sports Center that Harper Collins/Sarah Palin did not want Dennis and I to witness. Here is a hint: Nazis!

  2. Oooh, you can tell she's pissed, banning bloggers from her divine book-signing event and tweeting about death panels after being called out as Liar of the Year.

And on top of that, Sherry is home in time to spend Christmas with her family. (Huge Merry Christmas to the Johnstons!)

    Gotcha Sister Sarah! You betcha!

I still don't understand her fans stating that she is the answer for the country. She never says anything. From looking at the photos everyone of the people at the book signing were on medicade. No people of color. I guess Palin and the Bots have to fond a new land to take over with white's only rule. Maybe since they are used to cold weather try antartica. I hear that there is lots of oil under the ice. Palin would have to do something about those pesky penguins though.

  9. Palin would NEVER make it as POTUS because any media source that would write a less than flattering account of her actions would be banned from the press pool.
The big question is, how is it that the same bloggers could be cleared to attend the POTUS's visit to the AFB, but be banned from a miniscule event like a Palin book signing? IMHO, it just shows how fearful Palin is of having her lies exposed. She knows she is lying, but by banning certain types of media she is hoping to minimize the damage, but it's too late. Most Americans already think she is UNQUALIFIED for the presidency. She's a trainwreck waiting to happen.

Sarah was on her last trip searching for a private island where she can bring the Palin Nation together. They must turn over all worldly possesions to her to prove loyalty. You must take your kids out of school because they arn't learning what they really need to know.Bristol will be the school master, and willow will keep them drunk because the kids are smarter than the parents. we know Palin cannot have that. Then Sarah will get bored and Toad will fly over in a helicopter and shoot them all.

This thread needs some graphics to really make the point loud and clear. Any public images that show a repressive dictatorship shutting down the free press will do- Iran shooting on protesters, that iconic guy standing in front of the tank in China, any image from the former USSR, maybe just the portraits of some of the latest and greatest dictators from the last hundred years.

While Sarah's theatrics look like kids in school excluding a classmate from their select group, what she did was far more serious. It shows that Sarah cannot stand up to the scrutiny of the media. Sarah spent eight pages of her book trying to get even with Katy Couric. All that Katy did was reveal how totally unqualified Sarah was to be running for Vice President.

I am sure that interview still haunts her. Every time Sarah announces that she is giving a speech with no media allowed, that moment with Katy replays in her head. She is really afraid of the kind of reporting that is not fooled by thick makeup, fluffy hair and a you-betcha-wink. She withers under criticism. She can't take it.

By banning select bloggers, Sarah calls more attention to her own insecurities that if she had just let them come in. All that they could report was how big the crowd was, how people had lined up just to see Sarah for a few seconds. Did Sarah even think about the consequences of getting Gryphen angry when he has been sitting on some juicy gossip about her? Does Sarah think that Dennis was the photographer with the telephoto lense that showed us the new Palin Palace?? (It could have been any anonymous blogger, photo equipment is available to one and all).

Sarah is reactive. She responds without thinking through the consequences that might come from her actions. Next week, MSNBC will be playing some of Sarah's All Time Hits, including her famous Death Panel meme. This latest piece of theater shows us how totally unqualified Sarah was to run for Vice President or to hold any elected office. She can try to muzzle the media, but it doesn't change the truth.

This is what I wrote to Harper Collins today at the above email address. I urge others to see who publishes the books you buy and if inclined, write to Harper Collins.

All set to order James Rollins new book.
And guess what? I read that you ordered 4 bloggers from Alaska banned from a public book signing by Sarah Palin yesterday.
I cannot support that kind of censorship and and am surprised that a company that deals with books, information and authors either agreed to this request by Ms. Palin or decided to this arbitrarily.
I will not be buying books published by Harper Collins and will be informing Mr. Rollins of my decision and the reason why.
Will also be encouraging my friends to do the same.

Just saw this posted by commenter Give Peace a Chance under Shannyn's HuffPost article: (from http://www.aclupa.org/downloads/LegalDocket2007.pdf):
"In August 2005, a Delaware State trooper ejected teenagers from from a Santorum book signing at a Barnes & Noble store at the request of Santorum-event organizers, and briefly arrested two of the teens. Together with the ACLU of Delaware, the ACLU-PA brought claims for violation of First Amendment and false arrest against the trooper and the unidentified Santorum staff. In discovery we identified the Santorum aides involved in the ejection. The case settled in Fall 2007 with the aides paying $2500 in damages and sending the teenagers a written apology. The Delaware State Police paid $15,000 in attorney fees and passed a policy to prevent officers from excluding non-disrutpive people from property open to the public simply because of their viewpoint."

There is a great story in the comments over at Shannyn's blog from a woman who was at the book signing! She actually brought signs and wore a SarahPalin liar t-shirt and they cops took her signs (if I read it correctly she said she had trouble fighting them off because she uses a walker). She eventually went in, got her free flu shot, and was able to stay. I guess the cops weren't in fear for her safety....

I have been around a few people over the course of the last 30-40 years that I have considered over the edge of reason and slighted of mental abilities just beyond the ability to not droll in public and to partially dress themselves daily, but I'm not convinced that sister sarah has any of those abilities left. This latest set of public embarassments for the folks from Alaska seem a pretty cruel blow - even for her.

"Palin would NEVER make it as POTUS because any media source that would write a less than flattering account of her actions would be banned from the press pool."

Remember? Bush did that while he was in office. Bush also hired people to write favorable pieces about certain policies. He must be the master that Palin learned from. Plus, she's also getting advice from Murdoch/Rove/Kristol/Cheney and maybe even McCain, until she dissed him anyway.

Palin will never be elected to high office. She truly is her own worst enemy. And one of the funniest things will be watching the other rethugs tear her apart in the Primary if she does decide to run. She thinks that people looking for facts are "Opposition Researchers" now, just wait until the real Opposition Researchers show up. Do you ever remember rethugs playing nice when they're fighting for office? No way. And with $arah, they'll have a field day.
Of all the secrets that Gryphen is held to now, the opposition doesn't have to keep their word of silence. They have nothing to lose!
Gryphen, she must really blow a gasket every day when she's going through your and every other Progressive Alaskan website. No wonder she looks so crappy.

The real story is this: In addition to having a gazillion potential skeletons in her closet, this woman simply does not possess the mettle to run for the Presidency, much less any lower office. Her skin is too thin, she is essentially quite paranoid, and as people have rightly pointed out, she neither has command of the pressing issues of our day, nor is there any real substance to be found in any of her views. Someone who aspires to the highest office in the land has got to accept the fact that there will be people who disagree with, dislike, and many times truly HATE you. This goes with the territory, it is unavoidable, one cannot control one's surroundings completely, ever, and one has to at the very least understand that this reality is at the heart of Americans' right to free speech. (Obviously as long as it doesn't lead to physical threats of any kind. As we have seen already, however, Sarah Palin will fabricate threats in order to justify overzealous security measures. This is taken right from the Rove/Bush playbook.) So, Sarah Palin can run scared of a few bloggers, but honest to God, this woman will never amount to a formidable contender for elected office. And formidable is what one must be. It's brutal out there, Sarah. Either toughen up, or give up. Go start a cable talk show.

I can't keep track of all threats made against poor Sarah. There was that stuff in her book about her daughters being gang-raped if they went to school in Juneau (no police reports, no reports to the school though). Sarah faced a security threat at a book signing on an Alaska military base. This time, the security threat was that a crowd would go wild if they knew there was a blogger at the book signing. Yet, we never see any proof of all of these threats. Sarah should follow her own good advice, for the sake of the troops, Stop Makin' Stuff Up!

    ReplyDelete
  40. What amazes me is that Sarah, with one stupendous public act of cowardice, admitted that this "Gang of Four" bloggers indeed has the ultimate power over her. Everything Gryphen has written about her, Sarah has reacted to immediately and irrationally, to the point of giving herself away. Gryphen, you hold the strings of the Sarah Palin marionette, and when you say jump, she says, how high. Gryphen shows her cottage cheese thighs, Sarah is out running the next day.

So I think you should go ahead and print the most outrageous unpublished secret you know about Sarah Palin, and sit back and watch her implode once and for all. It would be an awesome holiday gift!

The story is all over the internet. I don't quite understand how she didn't think that the repercussions of banning media from her book signing would result in more media coverage of the story.

    She is such a moron.

And also -I know you are reading this - you have cottage cheese thighs and the botox is really not working all that well. Also, too, we all know that your oldest child is not Toadd's biological son and that "your" youngest child is not either of your biological child. And your youngest daughter's paternity is also questionable.

Now, go have yourself a nice little meltdown. You can call it "reloading" if you'd like.

Whoopie Flippin’ Doooo! Hell of a homecoming, did she get another crown?

You could find out what Alaskans really think of Sarah coming home judging by the comments on the Anchorage Daily News website…Oh wait…the ADN decided to ban public comments on the article.

Dennis Zaki, Linda Kellen-Biegel, Jeanne Devon and myself all passed the White House Security checks to attend the “closed to the public”troops only speech by President Obama a few weeks ago. The only threat to Sarah Palin by the Alaska Bloggers is the truth. Yes, it’s scary.

I guess “Real Alaskans” aren’t allowed near an “author” who once asked a librarian if she’d ban books. Oh, the irony…or is it ion-ry…either way, I’ve been Palibanned!

    http://shannynmoore.wordpress.com/

Except for Gryphen, they.......all passed the White House Security checks to attend the “closed to the public”troops only speech by President Obama a few weeks ago.

Yet they are on video file, banned AND thrown out by the Wassilla police with the arena manager?

What was the criteria other than the ADN,s lousy reporting of the arena manager saying that the citizens of Wassilla might do them harm and he was "protecting them" by throwing them out?

In Wassilla if the police think that harm may come to person from the citizens ....their answer is to ban the person rather than protecting them AND enforcing the citizens of Wassilla to abide by the law.

    Ridiculous!

How many republicans have made very safe, bland statements when asked about her? Most of them. I'm afraid that Repub competing for the nomination with Sarah would be just as weak. They won't stick a knife in her back like Bush did to McCain in 2000.

What I'd like to see? Hillary vs. Sarah. I'm not a big Hillary fan, but that woman is STRONG and she has balls. I would pay huge sums of money for a Hillary/Sarah debate. Clinton would wipe the floor with her.

Phil at Progressive Alaska has been keeping tabs on the ADN's story regarding yesterday's banning incident. I had also noticed that comment's were not allowed on the article. They weren't allowed on any article that was solely about Sister Sarah. I did notice, however, that the article regarding the email lawsuit with Andrea did allow comments.

Pat Dougherty at ADN turned comments back on again at the banning story today and wrote a comment stating that they have been having software problems for over a week and one of the results is that they cannot delete any comments. (you really have to read it, it's getting really deep over at the ADN editor's office). I wrote the comment below to Mr Dougherty and I am hoping he will address the issue. I am listing my comment here in case ADN does one of their famous "negative Sarah" deletions again.

    kerryann63 wrote on 12/23/2009 11:33:59 AM:
    Mr. Dougherty,

I would greatly appreciate it if you could explain to me how shutting down the comments on this story, due to a software failure, differs from allowing comments on the Palin email lawsuit article? I had visited your sight Tuesday evening and found that, while comments were turned off here - they were working just fine over there. Is your software excuse real or are you just protecting Mrs. Palin? Seems that if someone wanted to slam Andrea McCloud in your other Palin article, well that was just fine with you, as long as no one disparages Mrs. Palin.

The lady with the "Sarah lies" T was outside the arena, and after her hand made signs were destroyed by security, she went indoors with her walker wearing her Sarah Lies Tee when she noticed they had a flu clinic indoors, she did her paperwork and got her flu vaccine.

OT -- That famous pouty face pic of Sarah was on the show "Lie to me" not long ago. The main character said it was the look of "contempt". Perhaps that pic on this thread would be fitting. I laughed when I saw it on TV!

Of course she banned the intelligent Alaska press. They call her out on her lies. Only someone who is full of it would be scared of intelligent journalism.

She hates smart people who question what she says, and she only wants the dumb ones that believe her ghost writing, death panel lies, and send her money instead of feeding their kids to be near her. Those people she's comfortable to be around? That's not something to be proud of, Sarah. Charles Manson has a following of fans, too. It doesn't mean he's a great guy.

Every day more and more people can see right through her. Soon, she won't even make the news. No one cares much anymore except to hear about her train wrecks -- that's always entertaining.

Jason Linkins, who's been following the Palin Pageant Parade since last year, similar to Geoffrey Dunn, wrote "The Case Against Reporting Sarah Palin's Status Updates" -- so far there are just a handful of comments, and there's no moderation so far.

So, TPM reports that Harper Collins' mouthpiece, Tina, says that they DID rent out the sports arena, but didn't send anybody to Wasilla to manage the event. That means that Sarah arranged for the Ban-the-Bloggers list herself.

Way to go, Sarah. You are such a waste. You don't even realize that your best "choice" in this instance was to greet the bloggers and photographer with a dazzling smile and have them move on. Now you've just succeeded in pissing off (again) eighty percent of Americans and half the world. You continue to verify what we all think of you. Scum. Trash. Ignorant fluff.

    ReplyDelete
  64. But how could Harper Collins rent out the ENTIRE arena if there was also a free flu shot clinic that same day/same time?

Did Harper Collins make arrangements with the flu shot clinic to "allow" them to use the "hired" arena?

This still doesn't wash at all.

I just told the Banned in Wasilla story to my neighbor. (She does not own a computer and I am her life-line to the internet. Don't ask).

My neighbor's question was this: Why not just bite the bullet, spend the couple of bucks on the book, wear a baseball cap, pull up your collar, and get in line with everyone else?

My question is: What would you have asked Sarah that she wouldn't have answered anyway? Were you and Dennis just going to film her signing books? interacting with people? being bubbly and happy? and report on same?

I am one of your fans, and I ask the above questions in the interest of knowing what Sarah was so afraid of. She could have turned politely to you and Dennis, given one of those beauty pageant waves and said that she was busy and didn't want to take time from all of the nice people who were waiting to talk to her.

So, if you don't mind the question, Gryphen, please give us an idea of the questions that you would have asked Sarah. And, since she refused to let you come anywhere close to her, I guess that we will all have to supply the answers. It will be a hilarious post!

    The proposed title:
"Here are the questions that I would have asked Sarah. Please supply that answers that you think she would have given. No four letter words, please. Try to answer using a complete sentence, and no ya-betcha's."

As for Sarah's adoring disciples I wonder how quickly they'll turn on her once they find out the truth that she's fleecing them. They are the true victims here who have fallen under Sarah's evil spell. I have a feeling that some of them are as crazy as she is and the truth will not set them free.

Also I was watching FEEDJIT last night and Gryphen got alot of hits from all over America and foreign countries as well. The hits were coming fast and furious. Keep exposing Sarah,
Gryphen, she's afraid of you and the other Alaskan bloggers cause she knows you guys speak the truth.

Hey, folks in Wasilla, next time you want to hold a really large party and invite lots of people, I know a place that you can rent for only $85. per hour. If they rented to HC/Sarah for that price, then they will have to rent it to you for the same price.

The Harper Collins lawyers were behind that statement -- they are scared to have any part of the banning.

    They know why.

  69. The lady who posted on Shannyn's site about her experience wasn't positive that it was $85 per hour that she heard.

  70. Apparently, if Mrs. Palin even SEES a blogger now, she dissolves.

Meanwhile, for a heaping hot dish of schadenfreude, check out the cover of Star Magazine posted at Bree Palin's.

If Murdoch had the contract with the arena, then it would be Murdoch (Harper Collins) who would have the legal right to put armed police or rented folding chairs, or wine tasting into the building that they had under contract.

If you rent a church for a funeral does the minister hire the funeral home? Its their flowers, and their caskette etc., and your paying for the ceremony, so you choose.

I'd say that G-d just opened a door and invited the ACLU to walk right through.

Pssst, Sarah. It's probably time for you to actually read the Constitution. Oh and, BTW, you may soon get to see the judicial system in action.

So, TPMmuckraker was told by HC that no HC personnel were sent to Wasilla.

On the video that accompanies the Banned!! Making it on Sarah Palin's enemy list. Updated,
there is a relatively young man in a dark suit, dark shirt, bluish tie and a lapel pin leading the Palin entourage to the table. He then moves to the right side of Palin (at the end of the table) and proceeds to stand as if his purpose was that of a bodyguard.

Who is he? What was his purpose. If he was hired as a bodyguard, under whose employ was he? Is he depicted on videos during any part of the earlier book tour? Or, is he a hometown boy--hired to look official?

    Does anyone recognize him?

I'm with the folks here that think that Gryph, Shannyn, Dennis Zaki and other new media folks that have been threatened and/or banned by Sarah should consider taking legal action against her. She is not the queen, much as she thinks she is. Time to give here a little dose of reality and a quick lesson in the Bill of Rights.

Still not taking your meds, huh. So, are you coming home for Christmas? Remember, you have to behave yourself, for once, if you do. Don't want you upsetting your mom and the rest of the family, now, do you understand?

  79. I think that rascist little Sarah2012 Troll has the hots for you, Gryph.
    FYI Sarah2012: $arah IS a Socialist, too.
Your rants as a birther is really quite boring already.
And when I look at you so called "christians" and how hateful you are, I'm thinking that a Muslim is a more peaceful group.

  80. From the pic of the event (ADN Source), looks like it was 90% women over the age of 50, children and a few old guys. Tough crowd, I know they could have taken you Gryph. And Dennis, also, too. They look ready to ignite.

I think you've hit the nail right on the head. Sarahin2012 has only one reason for coming here, and it is in hopes of "making aquaintance" with Gryph.

His mother and I are very worried about him, you know--him being estranged from the family, and all. We're worried that he's not taking his meds. It may be because the dumb cluck DOESN'T HAVE A JOB, LET ALONE HEALTH INSURANCE--so, maybe he simply can't afford his meds, who knows?

    Love,

I decided to take the three minute challenge and find out, using Google, just how many people hate Sarah Palin. I took references from 2009 only, and the person had to really say that they hated Sarah Palin.

Here is just a beginning of the list of people who should be banned from future Sarah Palin events:
    Jon Stewart
    Betty White
    Naomi Wolf
    Feminists
    Spinster childless columnists (thanks, Fox)
    Liberals
    Mary Mitchell (Chicago Sun Times)
Hell, even Republicans Hate Sara Palin (a real article)
Sarah's editor might hate Sarah Palin (that one is iffy. I don't think there was an editor).

Sorry, Jesse, the only reference to you was that someone called you a Sarah Palin Hate Blogger, but I don't think that you hate her. She has provided too much good material. It was the nasty blogger who was filled with hate that he projected it onto you in his juvenile name-calling. He is a true Hate Blogger.

Neither Dennis nor Shannyn's names made it through the first three minutes.

If you and Dennis want to contact the ACLU, we're behind you! (Get a change of venue).

  87. Sarah is reviving her 'death panels' nonsense ... I think she is just trying to deflect from this story.

Gyph, congrats on being SUCH A THORN IN SARAH'S SIDE that you were actually BANNED ...

The Palinbots are fond of saying: Sarah gets attention because they (the libruls) fear her ... well, it seems that Sarah FEARS you enough to make your website go VIRAL ...

GOOD JOB! (now, go drink a gallon of very Rum-my eggnog with your source and get permission to publish!)

OH I DO HOPE GRYPHEN HAS A XMAS PRESENT FOR US ALL ... (and a bit of coal for Sarah?)

What a fruitcake Sarah is (the cheap stale kind with no nuts) Now we have "Bangate". Harper Collins isn't going to take the bullit for this one, and it's gonna cost Sarah if they force her to take responibility for this book signing. Her usefulness to HC is basically over.

Does anyone believe for one minute those who bought her book are regular consumers of books?

She revived death panels to divert attention from "ions" in her previous tweet. She's too afraid to admit she made a mistake, and changing it would bring more attention to it.

What threat did these bloggers pose? All they could do was interview people who are usually very pro Sarah. By banning them, she's made a real story of it. Way to go, Sarah!

Congrats, Gryphen! You da man! And I'm so delighted to see this story being widely reported.

  90. As Celtic Diva and Kim have pointed out, this was not just a "book signing", this was also a political event as photos prove. This may have been billed as a book signing and open to the public, but as the evidence bears out, the only thing allowed was Sarah Supporters and political activities Sarah agreed with. This was a partisan political event as well as a book signing.

On the Frontiersman, there is a commenter who shared this bit of information:

**Sarah's mother went around to be sure that all of the petitions that were there were things Sarah agrees with.**

We know that there was a man there handing out magazines of some sort with a picture on the front of President Obama depicted as Hitler.

We also know that there was a group there called "Conservative Patriots" who were handing out literature.

So Harper Collins paid for the rental space and security of a partisan political event as well as a "book signing" that engaged in banning members of the media and the removal of signs from a woman that offended or might have offended Sarah for not being supportive of her.

If you are not willing to properly pay her homage, then you need to be removed for your own protection for fear of what her fans, prone to mob mentality and violence might decide to do. Nice.
This is a glimpse into the world under Sarah Palin's rule.

    No Dissent.
    No Freedom of Speech.
    No Equality.
    No Freedom of the Press.
Worship at the Naughty Monkeys of the Bitter Quitter or feel her wrath.

Intersting take on this whole affair. SP had a book signing in her hometown, her friends came to get books signed. Nothing more. The flu shot folks show up to large crowds (imagine that) This wasnt a venue for bloggers, dang it, it was just a book signing by a non gov't person. Dennis and Jesse dont come to these functions for anything positive. This was a private affair. the fact that jessee and dennis are not happy that they were not invited is silly

    ReplyDelete
  92. The sports arena is a public building, but her party had rented space on the second level for her to sign her books. They were calling that a private area. No photographers were being allowed in the private area.

    per the Wasillaalaskaby300 entry:
