Uganda preparing to pass bill requiring the execution of convicted homosexuals.

Life imprisonment is the minimum punishment for anyone convicted of having gay sex, under an anti-homosexuality bill currently before Uganda's parliament. If the accused person is HIV positive or a serial offender, or a "person of authority" over the other partner, or if the "victim" is under 18, a conviction will result in the death penalty.

The MINIMUM punishment for daring to love somebody who shares your gender is life imprisonment? Where would these people get the idea to treat each other like this?

I think Rachel Maddow has 411 on that.

So the newest American product being delivered to the Uganda people is homophobia? And of course it is neatly wrapped up in Christianity so that it is more palatable.

And that colorful Christian wrapping is the subject of Frank Shaeffer's post on BradBlog about this same incredibly sad development. Here is just a sample:

More "respectable" leaders like Warren, Huckabee and Palin won’t admit it but they would like to do here what the Ugandans are doing there, and not just to gays, to all the "other" who are in the way of their taking America into the darkness of theocracy.

Christianity can bring many good things to the people of the world, but in the hands of SOME people it can be as destructive as terrorism. In fact the difference between THIS kind of Christianity and the kind of Islamic teachings that encourage terrorism is almost impossible to differentiate.

  3. Kathryn I checked out that blog Gayuganda and I am horrified. This is not the Africa heart, it is the black heart of the Christian right. I just found out Texas executed a mentally disabled man tonight and was already bumbed out.

The conneection between this legislation and the Family, as chronicled by Jeff Sharlet, is horrifying. American Christian fundamentalists Senators and Congressmen promoting their values outside of the US. Terri Gross had a fascinating interview with Sharlet on this last week.

I heard the interview with Terri Gross and Jeff Sharlet, and again urge all to read his book "The Family". Indeed we do have our own Taliban here in the US and it is the responsibility of all of us to let our friends and family know what is really going on. I am sad to say that most of mine (family and friends) really don't have a clue. One of my very best friends still living in the Atlanta area is a wonderful person but very naive about what many in the Christian/right wing movement is really about. Her whole reason for supporting McCain/Palin was the abortion issue. Fortunately she does read, unlike a lot of these followers of the religious right who simply listen to James Dobson and watch Faux News. I have told her her about Schaeffer, Max Blumenthal and Sharlet's books. Just keep an open mind and read the reviews on Barnes and Noble for crying out loud I suggested. She is beginning to have some doubts I think but it is a real battle. We must not give up, or we are going to lose our country to these medieval "prayer warriors".

Horrible, how can they call themselves Christians? How can they just sit back and watch what they created and say they can't comment on other country's politics?

I do believe that the fig leaf that Sarah has been using to hide her privacy as regards TriG just got blown away by her own bombast.

And every statement she makes to retract, just like ever denial of ethics problems just reminds people that there were ethics problems and that there is some question as to how a skinny woman can be 8 months pregnant.

Since Sarah is close to Pastor Muthee, who is a Witch Hunter and a Dominionist, does she also support the torture of the Witch Children of Nigeria as seen on You Tube.
I imagine The Family has give 100% support to this horrible practice and I have to wonder why the Main Stream Media, even Rachel, basically ignores it.
