Are the Teabaggers really paying Sarah Palin $100,000 to mumble incoherently to them?

This morning, I asked whether Sarah Palin’s decision to speak at the Tea Party National Convention (Remember them for the last post?) — while (so far) eschewing the much higher-profile Conservative Political Action Conference — had anything to with money. [UPDATE: Palin skipped CPAC in 2009 and has not said yes or no to the conference this year. It's held two weeks after the Tea Party event.] (The Teabaggers are meeting on February 4 through the 6.)

Conservative blogger Dan Riehl is reporting, based on “forwarded communications,” that Palin is making at least $75,000 and at most $100,000 for her speech. Tickets for the speech alone are going for $349 — tickets for the whole convention are $549. (If this is the only source that Palin is making $100,000 then I would take it with a HUGE grain of salt. Not exactly famous for doing his homework.)

“I’d speculate that Palin’s making at least $35,000 or $50,000, with $50,000 being more likely” said Eric Odom, executive director of the American Liberty Alliance, which is doing a promotional exchange for the convention. “I mean, Glenn Beck charges $60,000, $70,000 and a private jet.” He wasn’t planning this part of the convention, but he supported the Palin booking and argued that the convention was “as grassroots as it gets.”

Still, no one disputes that Palin is getting a healthy fee for appearing at the conference — and that’s a big difference between this and CPAC.

“We don’t pay honorarium, travel or hotel expenses for any speakers, past or future,” said Lisa de Pasquale, the director of CPAC. (To read the rest of this article just click the title.)

Unbelievable. Have these people NEVER heard Palin speak? All it should take is a few minutes of listening to her spew empty headed talking points and easily refuted lies to realize that they would get more bang for their buck by inviting Mariah Carey and providing an open bar. (Okay I know that was mean, but you have to admit it WAS a lot more entertaining than listening to Caribou Barbie.)

You know as somebody who has heard way more Palin speeches than can be considered healthy, I have to say that if I had it I would gladly pay her $100,000 just to shut her up. Of course she would also have to promise to stay shut up for an extended period of time. Oh and she would also have to promise to sit down. Yep both "shut up" AND "sit down", I bet I could find plenty of people willing to pool their money toward that end!

  10. The report at CNN says "A Palin confidante said the governor is not being paid to speak at the event."

    Who would that be, Jessica Steele, Palin's hairdresser?

    All of Palin's people who are authorized to speak for Palin are called "spokespeople", not "confidantes". Palin controls her public message very strictly, and "confidantes" don't speak publicly.

    Can you imagine the fate of a Palin confidante who WASN'T also a spokesperson? Just look at what's happened to Jessica Steele after some of HER "confidences" were blurted out in Tweets and interviews...

    In other words, I think CNN just got played.

    How many of those uneducated, ignorant "Teabaggers" do you think can pony up $1K or more (the "convention", hotel, travel and meal expenses) to attend this soiree? If Grifter Grandma (boy, do I love that appelation!) is charging them $100K, they'd have to have at least 300 people just to pay her fee. Does anyone think they will even make expenses at this shindig? Are they also paying other speakers?

    The whole thing will fall apart financially, with any luck.

    I went over to the TBN site to check out accommodations at the Opryland Hotel; 2 nights for 2 people is $220 ($110/night) for a conventional room, not a bad price, but I'm wondering if TBN had to guarantee a certain volume to get it.

    A notice by the hotel that it is completely non-smoking (anywhere in the hotel and they charge a "substantial" cleaning fee for rooms if you do) might mean they don't sell too many of them, also, too. ; )

    ah well let them blow their money on the quitter. that means less advertising money in places that really might matter to their cause.

    when I first heard about this, the thing that got me is that (and don't take this the wrong way, alaskans) is that here is someone who has gotten a government check every year of their lives, and the teabaggers hire her to speak on issues that they believe in. isn't socialism something that these people despise??? how stupid is it to hire someone who was the governor of the most socialist state in the country to speak about your issues (which include "socialism is bad")?

    I mean really, this just shows you how stupid these people are.

    My stepson almost came unglued the other night when I said it. He told me that Democrats aren't called disgusting sexual acts blah, blah, blah. I told him that when Repugs stopped referring to the Democratic Party as the "democrat party" then I might reconsider. Then I told him no I wouldn't because the Teabaggers named themselves and only after they found out what it really meant and how foolish they looked as a result, did they then try to change it to its present incarnation.
    I had the best time the other night "teabagging" my way through dinner. I didn't know he was one until he took such great offense and by then I just couldn't resist!

    I wonder if it has dawned on the Palin family, and their followers that Sarah Inc. has become exactly what she campaigned against to become Governor;
    that that campaign was only two years ago;
    that in serving only half her term she has fallen completely for the lust of power and money, most politicans take years to achieve what Sarah has in just 18 months;
    that she has committed the sin of lying more than any other politician in the last year;
    that she has fallen from grace into virtually all of the evils of power and money faster than any politician that I can think of.

    She is the anti-Rogue, and, if you believe in those things, very possibly the anti-Christ.

    The ‘baggers have launched a strong bid for the title of most inexplicably bizarre political movement in our nation's history. The three pillars of teabaggery are: 1. obdurate ignorance, 2. irrational, panicked fear, and 3. gullibility. The teabaggers are easily manipulated and willingly bleat in terror on cue from their GOP shepherds. Collectively, this ship of fools has yet to produce a single cogent idea.

    Or maybe they should research RED STATE= WELFARE STATE.

    when they stop sucking off the government teat whilst bitching about socialism, maybe then they will be able to rename themselves "tea Partiers".

    Tea parters should refer to smaller gov, no taxation w/o representation- not endless government welfare spending for red states like AK, AK, LO, SC, etc. Pay up, teabaggers.

    I love Gasman's quote, "She is fluent in moron."

    I think that Sarah ought to be cashing in on more ways to make money from these gullible people.
    1. Have Van Flein trade mark and copyright her name, Sarah Palin. That way, any time some one says her name, they have to pay Sarah a royalty. (Hey, does that make her royalty? If they say her name a hundred times, she gets a crown).
    2. Tell the tea-baggers to bring their copies of "Going Rogue" to the Tea-Bag Convention. Sarah will be glad to sign them (again) for a small fee. Wristbands handed out at 6 AM.
    3. Get the photographer back there to capture the moment and sell the pictures on-line.
    4. It is not to late to hire those gimcrack manufacturers to put Sarah's picture on mugs, umbrellas, mousepads, pencils, keychains, anything that can be set up quickly in a nearby booth and sold to suckers, I mean, the tea-baggers.
    5. I hope that Sarah brings Trig and Piper. They are great photo props, can bring in extra photo bucks. And, maybe Piper can do some crayon doodles which she call sell at the trinket booth. Sarah should start her kids early in the money-making business. That way, when Piper is 19, she can run her own corporation and be the CEO.

    If Palin is getting even the $50K to speak at the teabagger MENSAfest as Eric Odom, executive director of the American Liberty Alliance suggests, then she is taking but a fraction of what she has recently been asking. She has routinely asked for as high as $250K, from those that would ostensibly constitute her base of support. It appears that the market -even that segment represented by the gullible sheeple flock - will not bear her ridiculously inflated prices.

    It appears that even the teabaggers have limits to the extent that they are willing to be fleeced by Palin.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Anonymous5:54 PM

    OK, I think that there must be two groups of teabaggers. Those who run things, and call themselves teabag coordinators, planners, and those who are the teabaggers. Sarah appeals to low-income teabaggers, but she plays to the financially set teabaggers. These are the ones she's hoping to gain admiration from, the ones she passes the bucket to and they throw in those $20's and $50's, $100's.

    What the second group don't know, is she'd throw them under the bus so fast their heads would spin. If a better $$ offer came from a liberal teabagging group (I know doesn't exist), the wheels on her Escalade would spin so fast, dust would fly, she'd be gone over to the other side to rake it up before Sean Hannity finally gets a clue and calls her on it.

    However, only extensive plastic surgery has seemed to be effective. If Grifter Granny gets touch-ups every other year, maybe we can have a month's peace every so often.

    That's my thinking too CR. If you are complaining that your taxes are killing you, it must mean you have a very tight budget, and, gosh, shouldn't be wasting your money on stuff you don't need. Spend this today on X, you don't have it tomorrow for Y.

    Choices, pure and simple, and there's nothing wrong with that. But if you by your own admission, only have so much money, then what you choose to spend it on says volumes about what you think is important.

    All I can say to Plain fans is, if you want her to run for President and have any hope of her having enough money to run an effective campaign, do not give a penny to anything until she has announced that she is running and has established a campaign fund.

Toddy walks with her, and she is carrying the prop, while holding Pipers hand. They wave, she hands off the prop to Toddy, who exits stage right and passes prop off to the public relations peep, formally known as Bristol.
    The she approaches the podium to a standing O. After 10 mintues she utters 'Death Panels', Obama is a Socialist, and 'Democrates must be taught a lesson along with the GOP'. "I'm your Queen will be flashed sublimilay over the big screens, and a basket will be passed for 'donations' to the cause. After 3 minutes of speech that my kindergarten kid could write, she exits. Picks up the prop, walks back out, and helps prop waive. Keep those dimes and nickles coming, she says. It's for 'Trig's' future, and the future of all special needs props - umm sorry, children, that I do this for'.
    Standing O again, and she's gone.

    I just realized how the Sarah Palin Payme thing works. For appearance sake, the organization may say that Sarah is being paid $100,000. Behind the scenes, in order to get the speaking gig, Sarah has to make a generous donation to the sponsoring organization, meaning she donates back half of the speaking fee. There is some very tricky book-keeping that goes into this kind of thing. She may also get perks that do not appear as part of the speaking fee. What we see up front or what we are told is not what is going on behind the scenes. This may also be true of her famous multi-million book deal. OK, one thing is clear; Sarah left that low-paying unimportant job as governor to cash in big time. Less work, too, also.
