Fox News Puts James O'Keefe Into Context | ||||
|
Hopefully these two very funny clips will make up for what I exposed you to in my earlier post. I am truly sorry, but sadly, it is kind of my job.
Kudos to Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert for putting this story in context. I look forward to the next installment. Sometimes good old karma hoists one on his own petard and this one is especially well deserved!
ReplyDeleteIt is very disappointing to hear both Stewart and Colbert propagating the completely false and debunked storyline that O'Keefe dressed up as a pimp and got the goods on ACORN.
ReplyDelete"O'Keefe, who has become a right-wing celebrity for his anti-ACORN antics, was in New Orleans to give a speech for the Pelican Institute for Public Policy, a libertarian research organization. The topic of the speech was 'Exposing Truth: Undercover Video, New Media and Creativity.'
"In fact, the truth and James O'Keefe rarely inhabit the same space.
"Last year, the mainstream media treated O'Keefe's exploits against ACORN as an example of investigative 'gotcha' journalism. TV stations broadcast the videos without providing viewers with context. Most newspapers, too, acted more like stenographers than reporters. Few of the stories in newspapers, magazines, and TV pointed out that O'Keefe and his friends had doctored the videos before they were released, or that they refused to release the original footage. Not surprisingly, the videos failed to reveal that some ACORN offices turned the pair away or refused to provide them any aid. In no ACORN office did employees file any paperwork on the duo's behalf. The group has sued O'Keefe and Giles, saying the secret recordings were illegal.
"Almost every major TV station and newspaper reported the controversy, allowing Fox News, O'Keefe, and his cohorts to set the agenda. Their film damaged ACORN's reputation.
[...]
"O'Keefe and Giles targeted ACORN, though, not to expose any bad advice being doled out by the mortgage counselors, but for the same reason that the political right: to put an end to ACORN's massive voter-registration drives that brought out poor African Americans and Latinos to cast ballots against Republicans. "Politicians are getting elected single-handedly due to this organization," he told the press in a Los Angeles Times story on September 19, 2009. O'Keefe and Giles timed the release of the video to distract public attention away from Obama's September 9 speech on health care reform."

Interesting article on Huff yesterday wherein the writers talk about how the ACORN videos were spliced. The 'pimp' clothing got spliced in as they presented themselves in regular clothing.
ReplyDeleteThey refused to allow the raw footage to be shown. Media just went with the flow accepting what was told to them. The old "the more you say it, the more it is the truth"
Wonder if any truth to this knowing what we do now.

The RW is already making enough excuses, and preparing these idiots' defense, as they have for Scott Roeder (may he burn in hell).
ReplyDeleteAll of them need to be made examples, period, of what it means to go off the rail of civil discouse. They don't deserve anything other than the maximum sentence for their crimes. They may have thought of their crimes as a "joke" but let's hope the govt doesn't, and teaches them that young, privileged white males just can't "get away with it" anymore.
Hopefully we'll get more info as these 4 college educated knuckleheads have a court date:
ReplyDelete"The four men are scheduled to appear in federal court in New Orleans on February 12."

I am wondering if O'Keefe smarted off to this judge. I found the court ordering where he must live with his folks and has to surrender his passport (flight risk?)

Stewart's inference of the, we hope, excon O'Keefe getting help from Acorn is absolutely great.
ReplyDeleteThe judge released them on bond and baby boy O'Keefe, age 24, was orderd to go to his parent's home and stay there till his next appearance in court.
ReplyDeleteI guess he lost it in jail and needs mom and dad to change his diaper form him for a while.
That the Judge thinks this 24 year old needs parental supervision 24/7is almost as funny and Stewart's Acorn joke.

As to the pimp outfit, O'Keefe did not wear that outfit in the ACORN interviews. Nor did he present himself as a pimp in the ACORN interviews. But he gladly PR's himself in it. ACORN has been investigated on this issue and exonerated, as it has with all the other false accusations from the Republicans.
In addition to the timing of the release of the spliced video is the fact that the Republicans have been dragging ACORN into court over and over and have not yet won. ACORN has always come out clean. The RepoTaliban are simply trying to bankrupt this organization that, among its many very legal helping hands activities, helps register voters, for all parties, and has done so in accordance with Federal law, for years.
The Republicans with the help of this self aggrandizing self-righteous RepoPimp want to deprive the poor of help to get jobs, get descent housing, get health care, get food, and get to vote.
The Repubs are despicable.
Not to make what they did sound wonderful, but ACORN did fall for the game.
ReplyDeleteAnd I guess O'Keeiffe -whoever his name is today - just learned that Sen. Bouncer is not the mental midget that Ex Gov Palin is.

James O'Keefe will be one man that can understand Bristol Palin, a Judge orderd him to live with his parents.

James O'Keefe Gets Thrown Under the Bus

Who are his "parents"? Are they his natural parents? Like the young man who's parent ostensibly "reported" him. I'd like to see pictures of these "parents". I no longer believe much about what is reported. Like the Bin Laden movies. I think they are hollywood-style propoganda/hype for the purpose of herding Americans into fright behavior for "purposes". Very strange, uncontemporary, staged behavior of young people.
