The much-maligned National Tea Party Convention may be unraveling, as one of its scheduled GOP speakers backs out, and another mulls doing likewise.
The convention, planned for next month in Nashville, grabbed headlines by announcing that Sarah Palin and Republican Congresswomen Michele Bachmann and Marsha Blackburn would speak.
But lately, the convention has come under fire from some Tea Partiers who view it as inauthentic, and believe organizer Judson Phillips and his outfit, Tea Party Nation, are out to make a profit. And now, Blackburn, of Tennessee, has changed her mind about appearing, citing just such fears.
Meanwhile, conservative darling Bachmann, of Minnesota, has said she too is considering backing out, because of concerns over violating ethics rules -- though its not clear which ones.
And Mother Jones reports that Palin, too, is coming under pressure from Tea Party activists to back out, though she has given no indication that she will. Her speaking fee has been reported to be as high as $100,000.
I understand that Sarah Palin is absolutely fuming that she was not the FIRST to quit (after all it is her schtick). Right now she is just trying to figure out a way to quit and still collect her $115,000.
Update: Michele Bachmann has now officially canceled as well. Better hurry up and cancel Sarah, you might miss the last bus out of "Teabag-ville".
Wouldn't it be funny if this was the ONE thing that Palin could not bring herself to quit?
I think the reason Sarah is fuming is because she is feeling slighted – furious that she was not the FIRST to be informed, angry that she is caught off-guard and thus unable to manipulate others, bitter because she is 'out of the loop', and carping in victimhood because she is clearly not seen as the initiator but merely a lemming following the crowd to the nearest exit. To describe her as a Drama Queen is a massive understatement.
ReplyDeleteOhhhhhh! More trouble in Paradise eh Sahraaaaaa?
ReplyDeleteYOU REAP WHAT YOU SOW, scumbag.
Poor $arah. I bet that even she thought that her trolls would sell their souls to the Devil just to be in her presence. Actually, I think that they already have sold their souls to Devil by idolizing her.
ReplyDeleteIsn't the only way that she gets paid is by showing up, or if the event is cancelled?
I can see her praying in front of the gods of the almighty dollar, for the event to be cancelled.
But, oh what fun it will be if she just pulls out of the event. Want to take bets on what her excuse would be if she did (Need to help Toad with the roof, event never verified, conflict of interest, etc..).
OT but oh so important:
ReplyDeleteTell CBS not to politicize the Super Bowl with an ANTI CHOICE Focus on the Family ad!

Com'on fellow Bloggers! Let's get as many signatures as we can on this!
SPREAD IT FAR AND WIDE!
Thank yoouuuuuu Gry, for all you do!
I am sure the quitter queen will back out too, although she loves the $.
ReplyDeleteIf Palin was hired for this gig through the Washington Speakers, there would be a clause whereby if the event planner cancels, any deposit monies paid, would not be returned and I suspect the allowance to be sued for the balance. Therefore Palin has to sit back and wait for the event planner to blink in order to be paid.
ReplyDeleteIf she cancels, I can't see how she can be paid.
IMO she has painted herself into a corner and it looks good on her. No doubt, she'd come out and spin it in order to pacify her 'baggers' but that wouldn't take too much as they are so mentally challenged, they suck up anything she says as truth.
Still trying to decide if I want to take a little field trip to Nashville next week to see what pandemonious hilarity might erupt around this supposed event. Only problem is if it were downtown it would be easier to just mill around in the area, but Opryland is set apart and I am afraid that even to get into the grounds one might need to be registered to attend, and that is not going to happen, not even to get the lowdown on this event. OT, but I read that Mercede is wanting to talk? Or to write a book? I'd donate big time. Come on girl, talk! Let it all out.
ReplyDeleteWhen this for-profit teabaggers ball had a failed hick lawyer like Judson Phillips, who previously filed for bankruptcy himself, and who invited an ignorant and failed VP candidate and all around HINO--well, just how successful could it be?
ReplyDeleteObviously, Blackburn and Bachmann figured out they were laughing stocks enough already. Palin still hasn't figured it out.
She's probably angling to collect extra cash since Bachman and Blackburn won't be there.
ReplyDeleteHeh, guess it's easier to back out when you aren't taking a fee.
ReplyDeleteNo matter what she does, Sarah is going to look lame.

ReplyDeleteBachmann has bailed too!!
Both Bachman and Blackburn have now backed out. I just heard it. Too funny. Let's see what Sarah does now.
ReplyDeleteTeabaggers are so gullible. funny how they pretend to be sure of themselves yet were so easily hosed by this convention group. Not exactly employing critical thinking. Oh, wait, they don't know how to do that...evidence their adulation of Sarah.
Come on, Sarah, make a move! We're all waiting. Since they already paid her some funds I wonder what the contract calls for is Sarah backs out or it gets canceled. regardless, it's all about the Benjamins for Sarah.
What the hell is Ann Coulters advertisement doing below this article? Gryphen Pleeeeease say no
ReplyDeleteHoly twitter batman. Someone has out quit the quitter! Not to worry my sidekick i have a grifterhook in my belt. If i can just catch this edge of Faux snuz....
ReplyDeleteHow much were Michele Bachmann and Marsha Blackburn being paid to speak? Just curious...
ReplyDeleteDaisyDem, I'm not sure you'd have to have a registration to get into the Gaylord. It's HUGE after all, and you could say that you're there to meet someone for lunch, etc. I seriously doubt if the entire place has been booked up with teabaggers. Also, it's part of a shopping complex that contains a number of stores, so it would be very easy to feign ignorance about any "events" and just play the tourist and take lots of candid snaps.
ReplyDeleteI say if it's a nice day, and you feel like a trip, go for it.
Anon@10:58am Gryphen doesn't control the ads, Google does. The one showing now is Tell Joe Lieberman: It's payback time.
ReplyDeleteI can just imagine the stamping of Naughty Monkeys and the pulling of hair/wigs at the Palin Compound! She is screwed on this one no matter what she does. Love it.
Anonymous@9.21a - I disagree. Let FOTF dump major bucks into a Super Bowl commercial no one will watch - or care about if they do.
ReplyDeleteThat's money they won't have to spend on other spots. I know that Dobson said that a couple of major donors had anted up for the ad, but it'll still get wasted. Good!
For $carah, it's all about the Benjamins.
ReplyDeleteThis is good, so good. If the event goes on as planned SP cannot back out without disappointing those who DID pay for a ticket to see her. And I imagine they will be mad, even madder than they are at her support of McCain. I bet she thought that her bestfriend Michelle Bachman was dying to see her and hear her too! This is just too good.
ReplyDeleteGranny Grifter can easily not show up and keep the money. It was reported earlier that there is a clause in her contract that she can send a representative in her place is something happens and she can't make it.
ReplyDeleteShe could easily call in sick for this, pay someone from her "team" to show, give a speech and pay them some paltry sum and keep the rest for herself.
Easy Peasy.
But, and it is a big one, Sarah has stated (as of Tues) that she is still going:
Palin, who is being paid a $100,000 fee to speak at the convention, in a statement to POLITICO on Tuesday night said she remained committed to the event.
"This is about the people — the grass-roots' activists whose core values demand a responsible government,” she said. “This is not about politics or organizers, it is about the soul of our blessed country.”
Politico
Also Gryphen, just a heads up, I thought you would get a HUGE kick out of this.
Adrienne Ross, one of the Chief Panty Sniffers of Sarah's has written a post about Mr. O'Keefe and the unfair treatment of him by the media and others.
She has titled it:
O'Keefe is Front and Center; What About Kernell?
Motivation Truth

ReplyDeleteDr. Rabidoux would probably let you hang out with him, that day:
http://www.dailykos.com/story/2010/1/28/831260/-Maybe-Quitting-On-Them-Is-Easy-After-All
I believe it was this interview Sarah gave to Greta in the governor's office (in Anchorage) that got her slammed with an ethics complaint. All SMART politicians know that you can't use state resources for partisan politics.
ReplyDeleteSawah ain't so smart, is she?
Hammer and a Feather: yes, I went on his website. But I could not find a location for where/if they are organizing something.
ReplyDeleteAdrienne Ross can just shut up. Unfair treatment. He (and whoever is behind him) is in so much trouble! The press is not treating this criminal unfairly.
ReplyDeleteHow funny that the Teabaggers, who seem to want businesses to run smock, are so pizzled that the convention is a profitmaking business.
ReplyDeleteDamn it, Gryphen!
ReplyDeleteThere is so much good stuff to read and not enough time!!
Hmmmm...maybe Queen Quitter O'Palin can send Adrienne as a substitute?
ReplyDeleteLMAO!
I wonder what $arah will do if these people show up the the Tea Party???
ReplyDeletehttp://www.huffingtonpost.com/alex-brantzawadzki/tea-party-militants-nazis_b_437605.html
The teabaggers don't mind being scalped by Sarah's moneygrabbing scam of a book. She'll probably raise her fee now that others have backed out, she's so good with other people's money!
ReplyDeleteI am lovin' the position the Weasel from Wasilla has put herself in. And in her little paranoid psycho mind, you know when PO said, "I don't quit," she KNEW he was mocking her. Oh, what to do, what to do ...
ReplyDeleteand then there are tomorrow's headlines to consider -
BLACKBURN, BACHMANN OUT: TEA BAGGER BALL DOWN TO ONE NUT
"It was reported earlier that there is a clause in her contract that she can send a representative in her place is something happens and she can't make it."
ReplyDeleteI'm sure Piper's available--she's probably not in school anyway.
She'll probably send Bristol in her place. You understand: keep it all in the family.
ReplyDeleteBachmann and Blackburn are politicians running for office. They pulled out because they were getting conflicting messages on whether or not it's ethical for them to speak at this for-profit event, and they weren't about to risk getting slapped with ethics complaints or having it used against them in a campaign.
ReplyDeletePalin does not have those stipulations since she is neither in public office, nor is she currently running.
Honestly, do you investigate at all before you post this stuff? Or do you just not care about the truth. Palin-bashing must take precedence over any and all facts.
