Guess who has a copy of the book "Game Change"!

Okay so I broke my usual rule of ALWAYS reading a book from front to back without jumping ahead to the really juicy parts. This time I did just that.

And damn are they juicy!

Oh trust me I will go back and read the entire thing eventually. Even the especially painful parts about John Edwards.

I was HUGE John Edwards fan during the early part of the 2008 campaign, and was very upset when he dropped out, and MUCH more upset to find out that he was not the man that I thought he was. (Just a note to any Palin-bots who are visiting today. I know exactly what it feels like to have somebody you idolize turn out to be a fraud and a liar. In that regard I can feel your pain.)

So with no further ado let's jump to one of the juiciest parts of Game Change. Sarah's over the top reaction to the media response to her Katie Couric interview.

A snippet from the interviews aired on CBS that night, but in the clamor of McCain's campaign suspension, nobody noticed. The next morning, Couric went on the network's Early Show to promote her exclusive, commenting mildly that Palin wasn't always responsive in replying to certain questions.

At that moment, Wallace was in the middle of an appearance on Today and felt her cell phone vibrate madly. As she left NBC, she checked and saw that Palin had been calling nonstop. Soon enough, the governor called again.

Katie said I struggled to answer questions! Palin shouted.

Wallace held her tongue.

Palin shouted again, Are you listening?

I''m listening, said Wallace. You did struggle to answer a lot of questions.

I don't know what you guys are trying to do to me, Palin fumed. Why did you make me do Katie?

For the next twenty minutes, as Wallace walked the thirteen blocks back to her apartment, Palin screamed and Wallace yelled back. The reason the interview sucked was because you did not try, Wallace said. You didn't show up and you didn't fight. The reason Gibson worked out is because even if you didn't know every answer, you clawed your way through the whole thing.

Wallace could barely fathom Palin's hissy fit and her attempt to blame others for her failure to prepare. Wallace had been Palin's closest confidante in McCainworld, but now Nicolle was through with her--and the feeling was mutual.

Palin thought Wallace and McCainworld had tossed her into the lioness's mouth, that Couric had been bound and determined to devour her. She wanted nothing more to do with network anchors, especially since they got in the way of her talking to Alaska reporters. "I want to do what I want to do," Palin stubbornly to Wallace, "Now I know what Hillary meant when she said she had to find her voice." (PP 399-400)

Okay you may want to read that excerpt a few times to really absorb just how incredibly unprofessional, unsophisticated, and unhinged Sarah Palin really was on the campaign trail.

The woman is such a disaster that she cannot answer the simplest of questions and she blames the McCain campaign! Amazing

Personally I have a theory as to why Plain did better with the Gibson interview, and also why she did her most recent interview with Oprah by satellite.

Palin only really feels safe when she is in her home surrounded by her family. Even on the relatively welcoming Fox News set, Palin looks on edge and skittish. She is a person who wants desperately to be in control and who can never quite attain it.

As one of my sources, who had been close to the Palin administration, said just recently, "She NEVER listens to anybody!" And yet when things go wrong she quickly looks outward for somebody to blame.

And that is also why Palin preferred to talk to the Alaska press, who had long ago traded their journalistic ethics for Palin idolatry. At that time Palin could almost guarantee a favorable interview from any of our newspapers or television news programs.

But not form the Alaska blogs which, by the way, comes up later in this book.

Oooh I can hardly wait to get to THAT part!

I guess I'm gonna have to break down and get this book from the Library. More than likely, I'll be put on a list of others wanting it.
I've been waiting 6 months for Ted Kennedy's True Compass (started at #53) and Going Rouge only had a list of 3, now I'm @ #1. And I absolutely refuse to read Going Rogue.

Anyway enough babble. I'm off to order! Thanks!

I would definitely pay for a tell-all book by Nicole Wallace! Although, out of loyalty, I wouldn't expect anything from her til after McCain's AZ re-election is over (and he loses to a teabagger!). And of course Levi's book....and would really LOVE one from Todd after the divorce!

Gryphen, of course I don't know anything about who your sources are, but it occurred to me that just after New Years, and just after the strange announcement by Palin's office of the birth of her grandson, several of her aids resigned. One of them, Kelly Goode I believe, cited family considerations (her own family, presumably), but I never heard the reason why Scheduler Janice Mason quit. I have to admit that I thought at the time that it had something to do with the birth announcement, although I have no proof of that. Also, Commissioner Karleen Jackson quit, as did others during her tenure as governor, and of course we know that quite a few heads rolled during her despotic rule of Wasilla. I found myself wondering whether it might be worth trying to list all of Sarah Palin's staff who quit or were fired during her tenures. Just an idea.

It's an inability to think on her feet, coupled with a deep commitment that her political agenda is right. She sees anyone who doesn't understand her agenda as being against her. This is not uncommon in politicians and even those who follow politics closely.

I still don't see it as a psychosis but a few do. Unfortunately there appear to be none but a very few who want to discuss it or have the ability of bypassing the hate for Palin to try to discuss it rationally.

In my opinion Gryphen, that would serve a lot more purpose than this irrational bashing on Palin. And really, regardless of her mental stability, her political agenda is so wrongheaded that there's enough with that to bring her down. If she's a teabagger, which she appears to be, there's no two of them that could agree on 3 issues to make themselves a cohesive force to reckon with. That's Sarah's and their recipe for failure!

As we continue to hear more about Palin's psychotic life after quitting as Governor, I'd like to recommend a great article/podcast that first aired September 18, 2008, to remind everyone how Palin was lying from Day 1 in the national spotlight, and the media let her get away with it.

  13. I (also) too read the SP parts first, then went back through and re-read. Fascinating book. I highly recommend it.

I was also dismayed by the parts about Edwards...he had been my front runner. Amazing to think that everyone around him knew what he was up to and yet no press was talking about it publicly.

Ring any bells for anyone? Mrs. Palin, anyone??

People know, Sarah. You can't cover it up forever.

The ad right below this post reads, "Make Him Fall For You, Learn the secret psychology to what makes a man fall in love and keeps him hooked for the long term."

The irony is that Sarah dazzles on first impression, but needs the psychology that they are selling to sustain a relationship. Anyone who gets close sees right through the thick makeup, the latest hairdo, and the wink. Women see it first.

I'm going to eliminate the Sarah-fans and the Alaska press, which you correctly describe as practicing idolatry. When fans are asked what they like about Sarah, they usually gush that she is so real, a real American- which is laughable considering that her image is totally manufactured.

The power that she held/holds over the Alaska press is something that you are better qualified to discuss. Maybe a future topic. As someone who lives outside of Alaska, I wondered at the Anchorage Daily News having a fan box raving first about their governor and then about a private citizen who chooses to lead a public life.

Sarah was never ready for prime time, and she certainly was not ready for the national stage. More than one Republican has had to admit this. It must be a delight to read in print the things that you were thinking about Sarah.

We all know that she failed to prepare for the Couric interview, thinking that it would be a piece of fluff. The video exists and continues to show Palin for the shallow, uneducated sham that she is. And, thanks to "Game Change," we are learning even more.

Thanks, Gryphen, please continue the book report!

Another difference between Gibson and Couric is that Gibson is a guy. Sarah turns on the flirty sex appeal with men and kinda mesmerizes them. Gibson let her slide away with her nonanswers; Katie went after her relentlessly. As SNL observed, when she's cornered, she becomes increasingly adorable.

The only male interviewer I've seen not fall for her is O'Reilly. Watching them, especially the interview he did at the beginning of the Book Tour to End All Book Tours, actually made me wonder if he might be gay!

For some reason, Sarah did okay in the first Oprah interview. I wonder if something happened back stage afterwards that soured the girl-bond they had going there. There was real antagonism going in this interview.

    Gryphen,
Like you, I too was an Edwards fan early in the race. I sure am glad that he dropped out when he did. Can you imagine if he had been able to contain his bombshell for a few more months and had gotten the nomination? Palin could actually be V.P. right now. I am SOOOO glad that the information came out when it did.

Even from my vantage point way down here in the lower 48, I quickly figured out that Palin listened ONLY to her own inner voices. She is an idiot who doesn’t realize that she IS NOT that bright. Even if she were only motivated by self interest and greed, which she is, it would make sense for her to actually listen to smart people who might disagree with her. Instead of analyzing the current situation and giving rational advice, her sycophant toady buddies from high school are just going to jam their noses right up her arse. As Dr. Phil might ask, “How’s that workin’ out for ya’ Vice President Palin?”

Her behavior as of late is identical to that of the dumbfounded, whiny, petulant, ignorant bitch that we came to know during the campaign. She has not spent ANY amount of time or effort filling in the rather substantial gaps - did I say gaps? I meant CHASMS - in her education and base of knowledge. She is EASILY the most uninformed, half witted moron that ever flirted with the position of VPOTUS/POTUS. The other two candidates for that title - Dan Quayle and George W. Bush - soar so far above Palin in intellect that by comparison they seem like Oxford Dons. When contemplating the depth and breadth of Palin’s ignorance, one is faced with the reality of utter nothingness, complete and total vapidity, the great empty void that constitutes the sum total of her knowledge.

I feel somewhat qualified to offer up this judgement. Quayle was both my Rep. and my Sen. when I lived in Indiana and I met him when he ran for the senate. He was a greasy, arrogant, dull witted weasel. However, by the time he was tapped as V.P. for Bush the Greater, he had been a rep. and a sen. for many years. He was none too bright, but even if only through osmosis, he had picked up some basic knowledge. Later, while living in Texas, I had the misfortune of being present for the first five of the six years that W was governor. He too, was “all hat and no cattle” as they say in Texas, but he had been guv for 6 years and had at least some sort of record of success that he could point to before he ran for POTUS. These two clods seem like Sir Isaac Newton and Steven Hawking in comparison with Palin.

If you think the Bush II years were a disaster, imagine what living hell a Palin administration would be. She is a fool, an idiot, an ass, an asshat, a blockhead, a dunce, a dolt, an ignoramus, an imbecile, a cretin, a dullard, a simpleton, a clod, a nitwit, a dimwit, a halfwit, a peawit, a dope, a ninny, a nincompoop, a chump, a dingbat, a dipstick, a coot, a goober, a goon, a dumbo, a dummy, ditz, a dumdum, a fathead, a meathead, a jughead, a dunderhead, an airhead, a thickhead, a chowderhead, a butthead, a numbskull, a numbnuts, a flake, a lamebrain, a peabrain, a birdbrain, a jerk, a twit, a galoot, a lummox, a doofus, a goof, a goofus, a goofball, a schmuck, a putz, a klutz, a schlemiel, a sap, a bozo, a boob, a dumb cluck, a dumb fuck, and a dumbass.

Let me be succinct: Palin is a moron.

I know it's an obvious question, but why was she so insistent on interviewing with only the Alaskan press? Did she truly not understand that she wasn't running for VP of Alaska and that if she wanted to be second in command of a nation of people, that nation would want to see her readily accessible and answering questions with national media? Can you imagine the bloviations if President Obama only gave interviews to the Chicago Tribune when he was still a candidate? It is mind-blowing how childishly this woman acts and thinks, but she is still allowed to climb to the highest heights.

Ditto on John Edwards. What a terrible waste. Talk about self-destructive! Don't get me started. A great loss to the party and to the nation. And I agree completely with Anon at 11:44 about Palin. Didn't these people realize they had a truly strange (and suspiciously behaving) woman on their hands? A woman who thought it perfectly reasonable to say she was only willing to interview with press from her very own mafioso kingdom? Did they really believe her looks were enough, and her evangelical connections? Sickening. She always cried "double standard!" (I didn't like it when Hillary did it, either, and I am a woman), and yet she wanted special terms applied to her candidacy. Still does.

A Wasilla friend who knows the Palins and Heaths says the best way to understand them is to consider them as tribal, in the same way the Saddam Hussein was tribal.

If you were a Tikriti, you were in; if not you were out. Same with Palin.

If she's surrounded by the tribe, she's fine. Otherwise, unless she has a teleprompter or has done research ("please, Beck, ask me about the 25 windows or the 7 rays! Please, please, please. I've done research, and I can show people how smart I am") she's a disaster.

When Sarah was running for VP, she avoided any serious interview, the Sunday morning talk shows that are required attendance for a politician. Some politicians make regular appearances to spout their party line, even Dick Cheney.

Sarah seems to be all about control. She keeps her family around her as a protective shield, gives soft interviews to friendly reporters and media, and stages photo ops which are anything but real. She is trying to create an image that is not real. Just look at her ridiculous makeup and hairdo when she appeared on Oprah the other day.

Sarah is about style instead of substance. And, she blames anyone who finds it out.

During the campaign, McCain's people kept a very tight rein on her. They knew what they had, that's why there were very few face to face's with the press. If they had let "Sarah be Sarah" like some people wanted, we would not be reading any blogs about her now. She would have done herself in. We get glimpses of that now when she goes off cue. She will be the one to bring herself down.

Edwards was also my favorite way back then. I had no idea he had changed so much.
Then when he backed out, I liked Hillary. Obama was my third choice, I guess. I didn't know much about him, so I wasn't so sure. But I was impressed after I went to hear him speak in person. It was amazing.
When McCain picked Sarah, I'm sure it was because of Hillary, they wanted to steal her votes. Sarah is no Hillary. They are on opposite ends of the spectrum. He didn't get my vote. If that was his goal, to attract Hillary supporters like myself, it didn't work. It just pissed me off. There's just no comparison.
McCain might have well picked Paris Hilton for the amount of substance Sarah has. If he wanted a woman, there were a ton more qualified women that he could have picked. He picked her only because she is attractive. That is what offended me the most.
That is what's wrong with America, they don't look for substance anymore. They look for attractiveness. Now that corporations can buy whoever they want legally, they will pick stupid, attractive people without brains for our politicians and America will vote for the smile and the wink -- "he/she is just like us" BS -- therefore, corporations will run our country. Wonderful.

PS - I have just begun the Edwards chapter. It is a fascinating read. I have promised my copy to several friends, but when it comes back, I would be happy to circulate the book. Could get it shipped for the $4.95 US mail flat rate, if not less. Others with finished books may want to share with our community as well. Not sure how to organize the effort, but we have lots of smart folks reading this blog. Anybody have ideas how we could do this?

  48. Reading Game Change - definiely interesting - not too much new about Palin in the book that hasn't already been detailed on blogs and in reports so for those who haven't read it - with Gryphen updating as he's read you will get all the juiciest parts but stil worth reading yourself even if you have to wait on a long library list - or perhaps pool your money with a few friends share a copy then donate it to your local library once you all read it.

We all knew it already, but it is made crystal clear in the book - McCain and his crew cared NOTHING for this country and wanted to win at all cost - that is what I find truly disturbing. Palin being uneducated, fooling her base, being motivated by greed - well unfortunately that is not that uncommon however it is truly sickening that she was able to be elected to any public office. But having folks who are like McCain who actually hold positions of powers, have enough intelligence and financial backing to impose that power, and they unleashed Palin on the country - knowing she was unqualified - that is truly criminal.

One comment above listed a bunch of folks fired or quit who were close to Palin - wouldn't it be nice if some newspaper or magazine could pay for "witness-protection" type relocation for a one or more of these folks in exchange for their information on Palin - I know they couldn't really change their names and identities, but if they could safely be relocated to a state far far away, with a good security system installed, perhaps they would feel safe enough to tell what they know for the good of their country

God, what a liar Sarah Palin is. I remember her first appearance on Oprah, where she said "the campaign" told her what a great job she had done in the Katie Couric interview. And now, here's Wallace yelling at her that she hadn't listened to anybody to prep.

What a freaking nutjob she is.
