John McCain refuses to take responsibility for Sarah Palin.

He claims he did not know ANYTHING about her vetting?

He chose her as his VP without having any idea of who she actually was?

I smell bullshit! McCain had to have known at the very least HOW she was selected, what kind of a presidential candidate does not at least know that? I also call bullshit on Steve Schmidt's selective memory of how Palin was discovered and researched.

The TRUE story written for The New Yorker by Jane Meyer, a writer by the way with NO reason to revise history, tells the true tale of Palin's vetting process.

In July, 2007, Barnes wrote the first major national article spotlighting Palin, titled “The Most Popular Governor,” for The Weekly Standard. Simpson said, “That first article was the result of having lunch.” Bitney agreed: “I don’t think she realized the significance until after it was all over. It got the ball rolling.”

Max Blumenthall also pokes holes in Schmidt's version of events on the Huffington Post.

Now is it possible that though there was clearly more than just a simple Google search used to pick Palin that "Grampa" McCain was left completely out of the loop, and that she was forced on him without giving him the opportunity to refuse? Yes, that part is sadly very believable.

John McCain sold ALL of his integrity and ideals for a shot at the big time and now he is nothing but a sad old pathetic excuse for a man. Just another life that Sarah Palin helped to destroy.

And while Lauer tried, he didn't go for the jugular: asking why McCain would refuse to answer a question which would bear directly on his competence to hold elected office, much less as a U.S. Senator.

Me thinks he doth protest a little too much about how proud he is about everything.

I call bullshit as well. McShame is annoyed at being called out on what a major fuck up he is. He SHOULD be ashamed of himself for putting our country in jeopardy by picking that maniac for his running mate because he was so desperate to win. He should be made to pay for unleashing that loon on the world.

I hope his loses the elections this fall and is locked up in a "rest home" for the rest of his life after he has his meltdown.

Given Palin's vindictiveness and that she also leaves no stones unturned in getting revenge for those who cross her, guess McCain being non-committal and letting others talk is his safest bet. Isn't this why so many up in Alaska tiptoe around her? She's like a caged animal when provoked, and dangerous. (Why does Levi need a bodyguard?) At least it appears to me that she leaves a path of destruction where ever she goes.

Interesting quote from Game Change about Hillary Clinton:

"Weeks after Election Day, Simon and Schuster agreed to pay $8 million for her memoirs, at the time the second-biggest advance ever for a nonfiction tome (just slightly less than the sum handed to Pope John Paul II). But when the book, Living History, was published in June 2003, it earned back every penny, selling out its first printing of 1.5 million copies and then some. And the tour to promote it was a sensation, with her fans camping out overnight to get her autograph and the media comparing her to Madonna and Britney Spears."

I remember her writing the book and doing well with it, but I don't recall hearing about overnight campers and comparisons to celebrities. So Palin can't even claim to be more popular in this area either.

The MSM should have called McCain out about this long ago, and for the most part, I'm sure he will continue to get a pass.

Oh, but isn't it fun on those rare occasions when someone not only dares to ask pertinent questions, but persists until the question asked is actually answered?! I just love to watch McCain get all blustery and puffed up!

I can't believe Matt basically apologized for asking those questions at the end of the interview. From what I've heard, McCain is a nasty little tyrant - why does he command such ass-kissing from the MSM? It astounds me that a year after he LOST the election he is still on every political talk show criticizing President Obama. Remember how Al Gore did that too? Oh yeah, never happened.
He should have to answer for his dangerous, cynical decision to put Palin on the ticket. It is beyond belief that he acts so dismissive when he's politely called upon to explain himself.
Matt Lauer should be ashamed for allowing the interview to end up with him apologizing to McCain!

Poor, old senile guy. No matter what avenue he takes on the Sarah Palin vetting/no vetting/his choice/not his choice matter he still has no integrity. He certainly did not head up a campaign he or anyone else could be "proud" of.

  16. If she's now part of Fox News, isn't she, like, now..."the Press"? Now how does she keep "the "Press" out of all her speaking gigs? It's starting to get funny, she just keeps digging deeper holes for herself. Keeping herself in the public eye, she just lighlights herself as a target, and such a juicy one at that. Train wreck watchers we all are, fascinated while rather horrified. Also. Too.

Judging from this interview, it doesn't appear that McShame had anything to do with Schmidt going on record to take Palin down. I believe it is an orchestrated effort by the powers that be in the Republican party, who are worried that their party will be further damaged by the Teabagging, Palin.

Of course, McShame is going to defend the worst VP pick by any politician in the history of this country. He's desperately trying to hold on to his senate seat.

Sahrah Palin doesn't have to "have something" on McCain. He will never admit to being the completely cynical, opportunistic fool he was in allowing her on his ticket. His only defense of himself is to try to defend his selection of her, and he will keep doing this. I'm sure this is the reason his daughter refuses to say anything, anything at all, about the Palins. Anything she could possibly say would show her father up for what he is.

He wants and needs her support for reelection. I am hoping, her support will be the "kiss of death" for the old f**t. McCain is the perfect example of why America needs new politicians to lead this nation.

  20. I find it odd that all the Palinistas loathe McCain too. They want scarah to stop being loyal to him - they do NOT want her to endorse him for re-election (they want the teabagger challenger).
As much as I have NO respect for McCain, I have to say that without him, most of America would never have heard of Palin. And he remains a defender of her.
But all the fans of Palin beg for her to throw him under the bus.

I don't believe that SP helped destroy John McCain - he did that all by himself! He has been a selfish, spoiled brat his whole life and has not had to take responsibility for his actions ever.

I sincerely hope that he is defeated this year and that the young Democrat takes his seat, not the teabagger running against him for the Repub ticket.

I have family in AZ and spend a considerable amount of time in the Phoenix area. His body language, especially that tight jaw, tells me he's furious at Lauer's impertanance. His language difficulty is because he's holding in all the swear words he can't use on national television.

Johnny Mac will be re-elected for the same reasons they keep Arpaio going. McCain IS a nasty, vindictive little troll who could give SP some lessons. And that's saying something. The difference is that he (Cindy actually) has enough money to keep people quiet.

One thing we know about McCain is that he has quite a temper.i wonder he keeps getting questioned about Sarah, if he might lose his temper. He might say something like " She wasn't my pick. John McCain is like almost every other politician- none of them are ever responsible for anything. McCain crashed how many airplanes when he was in the service. He was involved in the Keating Scandal yet I don't remember McCain being punished. When McCain first began to campaign for president, he rode on the Straight Talk Express and enjoyed gabbing with reporters. The wheels came off of the Straight Talk Express during October 2008 when the economy tanked. McCain lied to Letterman when he said he needed to rush back to Washington, only to be found out getting made up to go on the evening news with Katy Couric. Yet, McCain has never answered to any of his problems. He was in charge of his campaign, yet a VP candidate was forced on him? I don't feel sorry for him. He should have been held to account long ago.

Find the article in there regarding Culvahouse being in Alaska as early as June 2008.

I don't believe a word Schmidt is saying, she was the Ace in the Hole all along, the rest of the chaffe was just to throw everyone off of the scent.

Culvahouse is an old Tennessee hand, a Bapist, who just by chance was at the University of Tennessee in 1971 at the same time Jerry Prevo was there.

Throw in Franklin Graham's name too, he's another Tennessee boy who was likely in on the deal too.

McCain and the Vetting to Nowhere

Lack of vetting? It's what Alaskans- of all political stripes knew when McCain picked her.

In August 29, 2008 stories, the Anchorage Daily News reported that "McCain's choice seemed to stun the country and took Alaska completely by surprise."

Quoting the REPUBLICAN leadership of the Alaska Legislature (who like other members of Alaska's political and business leadership were never contacted by the McCain campaign prior to Palin's selection), the story said:

"Republican House Speaker John Harris didn't much want to discuss Palin's qualifications for the nation's second-highest office.

    'She's old enough," Harris said. "She's a U.S. citizen.'"

In a related story, the ADN reported: "State Senate President Lyda Green said she thought it was a joke when someone called her at 6 a.m. to give her the news.

"She's not prepared to be governor. How can she be prepared to be vice president or president?" said Green, a Republican from Palin's hometown of Wasilla. "Look at what she's done to this state. What would she do to the nation?"

Green, who has feuded with Palin repeatedly over the past two years, brought up the big oil tax increase Palin pushed through last year. She also pointed to the award of a $500 million state subsidy to a Canadian firm to pursue a natural gas pipeline that is far from guaranteed.

Democrats helped give Palin her victories on oil taxes and the natural gas pipeline deal, over the opposition of many of Palin's fellow Republicans in the Legislature.

But Anchorage Democratic state Sen. Hollis French said it's a huge mistake by McCain and "reflects very, very badly on his judgment." French said Palin's experience running the state for less than two years hasn't prepared her for this."
    **************************************************************
Former House Speaker Gail Phillips, a Republican political leader who has clashed with Palin in the past, was shocked when she heard the news Friday morning with her husband, Walt.

"I said to Walt, 'This can't be happening, because his advance team didn't come to Alaska to check her out," Phillips said.

Phillips has been active in the Ted Stevens re-election steering committee and remains in close touch with Sen. Lisa Murkowski and other party leaders, and she said nobody had heard anything about McCain's people doing research on his prospective running mate.

"We're not a very big state. People I talk to would have heard something."
Few wanted to talk about anything else on talk radio Friday. Conservative host Rick Rydell said there are some benefits to the state, but it's a gamble for McCain to pick an unknown with what he considered "questionable vetting."

"It seems almost like a Hail Mary pass at the end of a football game," Rydell said in an interview after his show Friday.

Rydell said McCain has destroyed his argument about Barack Obama's lack of experience."

And then to make matters worse, and to keep the lid on the lack of vetting and Palin's lies about "open and transparent" government, McCain and Palin brought out of state goons- like Ed O'Callaghan from New York City- to run state government and thwart ethics investigations like Troopergate- to hide Palin scandals from the American public, and to cover up McCain's lack of proper vetting.

McCain wouldn't know? That's because there is nothing to know about the vetting to nowhere. And he knows it.

Whatever. I'm just very grateful that the Prick and the Stick are not in the White House, and the Crude, the Dude, and the Brood are not occupying the Vice President's home.

There needs to be accountability of those running for public office...McCain doesn't like to be accountable to anyone...but Americans need to have this in their elected officials....there needs to be a prescribed method of vetting which MUST be done for all running for public office...this will ensure that Americans have a QUALIFIED list of those running for a public office. . . barracuda78ny

  74. When John McCain's name pops up on the various blogs I read, and old Paul Simon song courses it's way thru my brain... "John McCain... really crazy, after all his years... YES! still fecking crazy, after all his years."

I'd be curious to know if she inked this FOX gig before knowing of the 60 min Schmidt interview and the release of "Game Change".

Did the Murdoch empire plan this new career path for Palin to counter the backlash from the Schmidt interview and the book release?

Or did the Murdoch clan ink this way back when we heard the TV rumor circulating, and are now stuck with her and this multi-year contract hoping she won't make an a$$ out of them all.

One who has so vehemently critized the MSM on a constant basis, I can't see how anyone believing that she is a credible member of the Fox MSM pack. Hypocritical to say the least.

  76. There needs to be a formal vetting process that all candidagtes must go through before being presented to the american people as a viable candidate for president or vp.......mccain has disrespected the american people and not followed through with his responsibilities as an elected official to represent the people of this country...A FALSE CANDIDATGE WAS PRESENTED TO AMERICANS AS A WORTHY CANDIDATE FOR VP OF THE USA......THIS PERSON WAS NOT EVEN VETTED...I believe he needs to be held responsible for his lack of integrity and honesty to the american people . . . what kind of action can we take??????
