Two lobbyists had a hand in writing language proposed by Sen. Lisa Murkowski that could curtail the Environmental Protection Agency's ability to regulate major emitters of greenhouse gases.
Their involvement, first reported Monday by The Washington Post, came at the request of a staffer on the Senate Energy and Environment Committee, where the Alaska senator is the top Republican. Both of the lobbyists, Jeff Holmstead and Roger Martella Jr., represent a number of high-profile energy clients. Both had top positions in the EPA during the Bush administration.
Murkowski has led the charge against the EPA's role in regulating greenhouse gas emissions, saying she has concerns about an executive branch agency, rather than Congress, writing such regulations. Her original amendment would have been attached to a spending bill and it would have prohibited the EPA for one year from spending any money on developing regulations for greenhouse gases.
In the remainder of the article (which can be read by clicking the title) Murkowski attempts to minimize this revelation by claiming that she sought "feedback on the amendment from many sources, including the Environmental Protection Agency, Democratic and Republican senators, as well as a number of Clean Air Act experts".
However one has to wonder how many of those other individuals "had a hand in writing the language"? Clearly these other entities that she supposedly allowed to give a once over to the bill are just offered to deflect that fact that Senator Murkowski brought in two big energy lobbyists to help her construct a bill which protects their source of income while continuing to allow their clients the right to continue spewing poisons into our once pristine environment.
But what can you expect from the Senator who is the top recipient of oil and natural resources money for 2010. So how much is Murkowski's integrity worth? Well I guess the going price is around $368,946.
If only these guys had that much cash on hand so that they could buy Senator Murkowski's help in protecting their environment.

Meanwhile, Fox News and misogynous, conservative talk show hosts deny that there is any truth to Climate Change and don't seem to give a plug nickel about what environmental legacy may be being left to future generations.
ReplyDeleteIf this near criminal foolishness continues, my hope is that Rush Limbaugh lives to a ripe old age so that he can stand and watch, first hand, as his house in Palm Beach floats away on the tides of the Atlantic Ocean.
As to Murkowski, and her greedy coherts: May they all have many, many children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren who are left to suffer the consequences of Senator Murkowski's actions.
She may not care about what we think and write--but she would do well to consider what they (her descendents) will face--and exactly how she will be remembered by them..."Yeah, it was our Great Grandma Lisa that loved the idea of $368,946 more than she cared about the environment she was leaving us."
Will you please keep a focus on Murkowski....... Much appreciate your commentary!
ReplyDeleteI read so much about all the oil spills, diesel spills, underground leaks, etc. I have gotta wonder what the Alaska regulators are doing.
Enough Enough Enough... It's time to start scalping these rapist of our environment!
ReplyDeleteOkay that might have been a bit over the top... ohh I made a funny!
that polar bear picture is tragic.
ReplyDeletesure is nice that the majority of americans want to help creatures in peril, isn't it? /snark
Sounds like business as usual. Still, I hope this story gets some legs. In terms of actual shaping of important policy this has much more potential for damage than the spewings of any TV personalities.
ReplyDeleteLisa needs the money for new fish lips. God-O-God i hope someone of integrity runs against this usurper.
