Family Guy actress Andrea Fay Friedman talks about Sarah Palin, Down syndrome, and how Sarah treats Trig.

This brave young woman has suffered attack and abuse from the supporters of Sarah Palin simply for refusing to allow herself to be defined by her condition and for finding a humorous way to connect with the Family Guy audience.

Just look at how some Palin supporters express their anger at this actress:

Sorry but your a rotten lil bitch...i could care less you have down syndrome you know exactly what your doing. you ARE making fun of ppl with down syndrome to get your 15 minutes of fame...your disgusting!

She doesn't even realize she's being used. This is appalling and Insider should be ashamed of participating in it.

trig??? you talk about trig............if you are saying don't use him then stop using the fact you have downs syndrome in order to make money.........there's no difference

Her remarks about Sarah Palin's sense of humor and how she treats Trig are dead on. The reason the Palin-bots are so upset is because they realize that people are far more likely to take the side of this brave woman than the perpetual victim who they worship. Apparently Sarah's thin skin is contagious.

By the way if you did not see what Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane had to say about this controversy on Real Time last night you should do yourself a favor and click here. It was awesome!

Just saw a comment that the Iron Dog starts today. That's where SP is. So her comments will come next week when she is at home following Toad, I assume.

If she is smart she will leave this alone. That includes OReilly and limpbasket, etc.

I can't believe how sick those people are. The comments like this shoud be removed from facebook or wherever they were posted!
Sarah should demand they be removed. She also owes Andrea an apology but that won't happen because she is never wrong. Sarah calls Carrie Prejean though. An awful person with her sick supporters on fullnf

    So, let's see...

While "protecting" persons with DS, Palin has now subjected a talented, driven woman with DS to excessive, rude, crude ridicule and hate.

    Yeah. That sounds about right.

Andrea, people hate Sarah for the many things she does. One of the major things is that she has a following of people who do not care between right or wrong, they just want to hear what Palin says. During the campaign, she talked about Obama hanging around terrorists and everything else negative. So these people got worse and started carrying guns and started repeating harmful comments to Obama. Palin never stopped them, she just encouraged it.

Just like you go to work everyday to make a living and to contribute to society, Sarah has found a way to make money from this hate, this is what Sarah does for a living , this is what Sarah's life has been about. Palin has history as mayor, governor and as a private citizen of being hateful, revengeful and playing the victim.

Why is Palin the most hated and ridiculed woman in the world? That is just her nature. There is nothing you or anybody else can do about it!

Andrea stay sweet and keep on smiling, the world will smile with you!
    Much Love :D

If Sarah wanted to see cruel...along with her ow liar-in- training daughter Bristol...all those 2 need to do is view the commentary of their most rabid fans. So when will Sarah call them out?

Never, of course because they are protecting the mighty, victim Sarah and her ignorant brood. Hate to tell you See of Pee-ers, but this young woman, Andrea, has been successful as an actress, regardless of her DS, long before any of you deluded clowns began to worship at the lower limbs of a grifter, liar named Sarah Palin.

We know you can't stand the truth, that your goddess of greed has been slapped down by someone who has lived her life with DS and succeeded...probably more successfully than a lot of you Pee-ers. But for even the likes of you Pee-ers to sink to the level of insulting and disparaging a person with DS in an effort to save face for the Queen of greed speaks exactly to who all of you are...worthless beings lacking empathy/sympathy or any understanding that people with disabilities have ABILITIES. Now that's something your Queen fails to understand because she and her family would rather use Trig as a hunk of flesh to be pitied along with his poor put upon family for having to deal with it. You all make me ill and represent the worst that America has to offer...the absolute worst and someday all of you will answer for your vile, rabid ignorant deeds.

I don't care where Sarah is this weekend or what she's doing, we know she's aware of everything that's going on over this issue. Every minute that she waits to come out, shut her freaks down and apologize publicly to Andrea and her family, she's making a huge mistake. Nobody's going to forget this mess and nobody's going to forget who's responsible for it.

Andrea's video is so touching. I admire both her and her family. They are truly inspirational.

How exactly is a woman with Down Syndrome telling a date that her mother is the former governor of Alaska mocking people Down Syndrome. Is there something mutually exclusive, horrifying, unfair, cruel, about a child with Down Syndrome having a mother who was governor? or from Alaska? or both?
It's nearly impossible to make this an insult to Trig. All children with Down Syndrome have a mom who does something with her days. How is it an insult to the child that the mother is governor of Alaska. I can't even figure out how to turn into a pretzel and get there (like with the Letterman Joke about A.Rodriguez). It's mind-boggling.

  12. According to Medline Plus:

"In most cases, Down syndrome occurs when there is an extra copy of chromosome 21. This form of Down syndrome is called Trisomy 21. The extra chromosome causes problems with the way the body and brain develop."

    Trisomy 21

Do you think that maybe Sarah named Trig after the medical name for his condition?

The Blog: And So It Goes ....... has an excellent "Dear Bristol" response to Bristol-Sarah's FB outrage regarding the Family Guy cartoon.

The blog's 4-point evaluation of the character Ellen concludes that the cartoon could have just as easily been about Bristol, not at all about Trig.

And the blog has an interesting take on Point #4 "my dad is an account".

  15. The funny thing about this is it reminds me of old TV movies from the late 60's and early 70's when a black guy would be bad at basketball, hilarity would ensue.
Having a Down Syndrome person that is a horrible person as opposed to the stereotype, that they'll be nice to anyone who gives them a little attention, makes fun of the people that believe the stereotype.
So it does pick on Sarah but only because she believes in the stereotype.

Andrea, keep being the wonderful young woman you are. Continue to rise above the hate and ridicule as you have had to do all your life on top of facing the challenges of DS. You are an inspiration to all of us. The Family Guy episode was a true example of satire as opposed to SPs lame explanation for Rush Limbaugh's remarks. And right on cue, Sarah reacts incorrectly, proving that she doesn't really know the meaning of satire.

I think Sarah is ashamed of Trig and is in denial that he has DS. When Andrea said her mother was the former Gov of Alaska reality smacked her right in the face and Sarah being Sarah having to play the victim again, opened her mouth and stepped right into a pile of her own sh#*.

I don't watch Family Guy because I think it's retarded, but they really nailed this one. The whole satire would have fallen flat if Sarah hadn't bitten like the big fish that she is. The punch line of the Down segment is when the main character tells the woman with Down syndrome that she isn't special "she's just like everyone else." Bingo--hammer meets nail head. But it isn't really funny or satire until Sarah adds her perpetual victim shtick and brings it to life.

I'll bet this has helped their ratings. Now that she's demonstrated that she's anxious to participate in the satire Mrs. Palin has tattooed a target on her butt. I'm hoping that it leads to more work for Andrea.

It is a given that Palin supporters are morons, but the ones who have gone after Andrea Friedman have also shown that they are the most loathsome, vile, despicable cowards that have ever slithered across our planet. That their cringe inducing screeds do not cause them to hang their heads in abject shame is quite telling. They see no problem in attacking a woman with Down Syndrome simply because she has the audacity to be better informed than they are. How utterly ugly, mean spirited, and pathetic must they be to engage in such contemptible behavior? How fetid and festering must be the cancerous hate which has consumed their souls.

My guess is that they’ve tired of running over the elderly in crosswalks and stomping on puppies. They have now trained their sights upon those with Down Syndrome. What mighty warriors they are.

To those Palin supporters who have mustered up your “courage” to attack Andrea Friedman: God damn you all and go to hell.

  28. If I were the mother of a Downs Syndrome baby, I would not only be so knowledgeable about the condition and proactive on treatments, etc, but I would be visionary on what is possible for my child's future. It follows that I would find the Family Guy cartoon character downright inspirational. And then, to learn the background of this accomplished actress who did the voice-over...now that would give me something real to hope for. I don't understand why Sarah (Bristol?) doesn't hold Ms. Friedman up as a symbol of the possible. Instead (and contrary to being the advocate as she proclaims), Sarah has insulted the DS community at large and has tipped her hand that her child's life takes a distant backseat to her own career. Another Palin child thrown under the bus. All irony aside, this really isn't funny.

I've seen her on other shows before - she's not making fun of down's syndrome, she's showing that people with this condition are NORMAL PEOPLE - they can be jerks too. My little boy is on the autism spectrum and while he's sweet for the most part, he can be a bratty little terror too. She doesn't make her living by saying "ooh! I have Down's Syndrome!" She's a freakin' ACTRESS and she works as an accountant, lives on her own, and is completely independent. Palin wants to keep Trig down as much as she can for sympathy and crap like that. Friedman shows her that you don't have to be defined by your circumstances in life, and it scares the hell out of Sarah - because that means that Trig may one day grow up and be resentful that he's nothing more than a prop to a selfish bitch of a mother.

  40. I had the privilege of seeing Ms. Friedman's resume' over at another site--impressive to say the least. I couldn't help noticing the number of events at which Andrea has been the Keynote Speaker. Even at a glance, it becomes obvious that her experience in acting, as well as quality speaking engagements, completely outweighs Sarah Palin's blathering, tiresome (repetition dulls resistence) political rhetoric.

Andrea Friedman is to be commended and does not in any way deserve the ugly criticism that she has received from SP, BP, their bots, or Facebook ghost writers--that we all know. And we also know who it is that deserves every ounce of criticism we can collectively muster.

For what it's worth, I did not perceive the FG scene to be about Trig--it, from my point of view, was a composite of some members of the Palin family:

Track: less than a gentleman--dumb boy; pony-tailed daughter, Bristol, who may be a little slow in her ability to move out from under her mother's thumb.

The references to Sarah and Todd are obvious--Todd is the bean counter for the Palin family these days--since he is otherwise unemployed, he is home counting the money that is being raked in from their various and sundry Palinbot marks.

Who, besides Sarah Palin, would be pushy and tacky enough to demand a back rub in the middle of a nice restaurant?

Who, besides Sarah Palin, would be so obtuse that she doesn't comprehend that Rush Limbaugh is not a satirist, but Sean McFarland's animated cartoon is satire.

And who, besides Sarah and her current heir apparent clone, Bristol, simply so 'do not get it' that they would fly off the handle--suggest it is all about Trig and show themselves for the complete idiots that (we all already know) they are.

I didn't see any suggestion of Willow, Piper or Trig (other than the fact that Trig does have Down Syndrome) being portrayed in this cartoon. In fact, the Palin family can only hope that Trig will step into the mainstream as successfully as Andrea Friedman--this accomplished actress has proved that, with hard work and the attention and support of good parenting, it can be done:

She lives independently. In addition to her acting career, she has a job in a law office and drives her own car--on busy California highways, I might point out.

To Andrea; Thank you. We know that developing your talents has not come easy. You have proved that it is, in fact, you who fully comprehends the notions of dedication and hard work.

P.S. OT--I saw over at Palin Q & A--someone behind the scenes is very serious about trying to get an Irish ancestry connection for Palin--it seems there are efforts being made to boost a posible Irish-American vote during a possible 2012 run.

Having spent several years working on family history, I know it isn't easy finding ancestors who were not literate. You better hope that your ancestors all thought education was more important for their children than you do yours, Sarah.

I think you might be correct. Perhaps this was an attack that was malicious and intentional. I understand Family Guy ca be very nasty. If Sarah wanted to complain about being picked on, attacked, insulted, she can - although I'm not sure what is insulting or malicious about being identified as a person with a child with Down Syndrome. I think the if malicious and intentional, it was because someone suspected she would react as if poked.

First of all, you need to take your fingers out of your ears.

The question is not: Name another top politician, sports star or celebrity who has a child with Down.

Down Syndrome is not the only learning or physical disability that exists in today's world.

A query like: Name another top politician, sports star or celebrity who wears their disabled child on their chest like a badge.

There are several hollywood types that have overcome learning and physical disabilities.

Where were your objections a few days ago when Rush Limbaugh repeated the word "retarded" 30+ times? Where were your objections when he cruelly insulted Michael J. Fox a few years ago?

John Travolta had a disabled son who died about a year ago. Did he parade his son all over God's half acre to promote any causes?

As for the politicians? You may be too young, or perhaps unwilling, to remember that the John, Bobby and Ted Kennedy had a sister who was born with Down Syndrome. The Kennedy family didn't hide her away--but they didn't parade her around every time they hit the campaign trail.

It appears that John McCain's adopted daughter may have some learning disabilities. She also happens to be a woman of color. Maybe your memory is too short, but what did Karl Rove and the Bush campaign do to John McCain in the 2000 campaign in relation to this daughter? Take your fingers out of your ears, open your eyes and look it up.

And, while you are doing that, you might look up the fact that Glen Close has a sister with mental illness whom she lovingly cares for. Does she use her sister to promote any cause of her own?

I know regional and local newpapers are dwindling--but have you ever seen one? Read the editorial page? Looked at an political editorial cartoon?

It is satire. It often seems cruel--but those who see it as unfair or cruel are usually the guilty ones--those who see it as simply a satirical representation of truth are usually the ones who have stepped back to take a look at the big picture.

Like I say. Disabilities come in all forms. Physical and mental. Some have an excuse for their infirmities--others, well, there really is no excuse for not thinking beyond some misplaced loyalty to another human being so that they are incapable (or unwilling) to see through that person's manipulation.

Hold up a mirror. If Sarah Palin is looking back at you, then you will know that the ugliness that permeates her very soul is only a reflection of the soul in the one holding the mirror.

P.S. Deliberately obtuse? No-- persons who are willing to be informed, better describes Gryphen and his readers, thank you very much.

Rosemary Kennedy did not have Down Syndrome. She was in an institution. She died in 2005. From the Washington Post obit:

Miss Kennedy was characterized as slow and shy-seeming from early childhood, possibly dyslexic and apparently retarded. But behavioral problems that began in her early twenties led to the brain operation, according to published accounts.

She was "probably the first mentally retarded person to receive a lobotomy," Jack El-Hai wrote in a 2001 article in The Washington Post Magazine.

I am on the autism spectrum, for many years health professionals promoted the false notion that we don't have a sense of humor(Dan Akroyd has Aspergers). Years ago we came up with a joke organization called, The Autism Liberation Front, and someone has a website with a DSM IV joke diagnosis of nerotypical syndrome(normal person), then there are the, You know you have Aspergers when... sites. Sarah and the family Palin are responsible for the comments of her supporters, because this is the type of intollerence that she has asked her fans to exhibit.

This family owes Ms Friedman and apology for themselves and they need to apologyze for their fans.

Blogers, raise a ruckus about this.

Andrea lives independently. Bristol has the resources but zero independence. Bristol also gets the Alaskan Trust for 2 and she has probably enjoyed government health care her entire life.

  63. I swear this Paylin bots are sickening. If one of them dare say a word near me about Andrea I would like to smack them up side the head. But I will be a class act lke Andea is. Real nice hurting her feelings because their poor Sarah go hurt feelings. But she says not a word to Rush that ...well I don't want to get banned but Rush is not my favorite person to say the least. Pit bull indeed. She gives the breed a bad name. Their loyal and smart dogs.

Thanks, Nanny B, for your eloquent response. You truly "get it". I've been following the alaska blogs and others for a long time, and not ONCE did I see anyone comment in a hurtful way about Trig and the challenges he has ahead of him, as a matter of fact, I've seen an outpouring of concern for his needs not being met, basic needs as being clothed appropriately for the weather that ANY parent should pay attention to. And the need for glasses, hearing aids, and regular therapy. The earlier the intervention, the more beneficial it would be for him. We see none of that.

Trig has been paraded across the country during the normal flu season AND the deadly H1N1 strain, and all we hear from her followers is how beautiful she is, how wonderful that she chose to carry Trig full term (excuse me, I just puked in my mouth a little). And how she's one of them etc etc. Sarah exploits Trig, and by keeping the stereotype alive, she gets more sympathy, more money, and more power.

Andrea is a role model for ALL people, not just those with disabilites and challenges. She wasn't used as a human shield/fund raising tool. Her family researched and got her the best help they could afford. And her persistance is what helped her overcome challenges.

This young woman is a fine actress, lives on her own, graduated college, works in a law firm and gives back. She gives back by giving motivational speeches, she even spoke at Harvard School of Law.

We all know Sarah googles, and instead of actually looking at the facts, she takes to Facebook and hands off her opinion by exploiting her other child, Bristol, to bash the show (she's got to be careful because Fox puts money in her pocket).

The only ones with rose colored glasses are her followers.

Mrs. Palin can't be bothered to apologize to Andrea Friedman or her family but she can sit on her ass and use the "little twittering thing" to kiss CPACers' and Glenn Beck's ass. And another tweet to blather about the IronDog and the racers being in the garage - such a lovely domestic Norman Rockwell family moment! Or is it Norman Bates? I'm easily confused.

Guess Todd got the roof fixed.

I thought it was funny. I've never watched a FG episode before, now I'll never miss one. I'll keep up with Andrea's career and catch every appearance she makes from now on. I like Seth McFarlane and before this, I didn't know who he was or what he did.

Do you really think that FG is in worse taste than...oh say the Palin Family Trash saga that we're all subjected to?

I'm not going to try to explain to you what the episode was about or what you're purposely refusing to admit. Others have done a good job doing that.

You said, "MacFarlane chose the topic deliberately to throw a malcious attact at Palin."

Hey pal, that ol' dog won't hunt anymore. Palin's time is up. She stepped into a huge pile of mooseshit this time. She is one stoopid BI*CH.

And learn to spell, you "moran".

Well said Gasman. I want to add, the look on Andrea's face clearly shows the pain palin, and her cult have caused Andrea. I have faith that Andrea will overcome this painful experience. For palin, she has not a clue to how she has turned people away from her over this latest stunt she pulled to get herself in the news. She does not care who she hurts. To Jerry, yes I think palin named Trig for the medical term for DS. She thought the public would not figure it out. The real mother of Trig should step forward.

  69. Whoa, if I am understanding correctly, it looks like I may have inadvertently ruffled a couple of feathers:

    to delay @ 5:44 and Anon @ 3:52

Could it be that the old adage, "Birds of a feather stick together," be swooping in?

Frankly, and I do mean this in the nicest way, it really doesn't matter to me whether it is Down Syndrome or any other of a thousand disabilities:

Children and adult disabilities are not a game of Bridge.

Down Syndrome does not trump any other disability or deadly childhood diseases, like pediatric cancer, cystic fibrosis (which incidently cause my brother's death when we were children)--or the near starvation of children in the poorest neighborhoods in the city (or poor rural area) nearest you.

If I am misunderstanding your posts, my apologies--but I don't think that I am and, if I am right, you are missing the point, entirely.

Fact: Any parent who uses a young, disabled child (of any diagnosis) as a blatant propaganda ploy (shoes, socks, hearing aids, glasses aside) is abusing that child.

Fact: Any parent who chooses to have a child, knowing full well that the child will have special needs, and crows like a friggin' rooster as if that makes them a candidate for sainthood, has the explicit responsibility to PROVIDE that child with absolutely every ounce of: parental and medical attention, developmental assistance, physical and speech therapy, and/or any other necessity that child requires in order for it to reach its full potential. If they do not, they are willfully neglecting that child.

Ms. Friedman's parents understood these facts. Others, sadly, do not.

As to Bristol being "slow?" One has to wonder. If she is not "slow" in her mental development, she certainly seems to be arrested in her emotional development--why do I say that? Show me an ounce of proof that she is moving toward her own independent life. No, Bristol is, by all appearances, very happy to remain snug in her mother and father's well-feathered nest.

And, for the last time, it was Sarah Palin, herself, who was the butt of the FG joke. And, I happen to agree with Ms. Friedman--Down Syndrome does not mean in any way shape or form that the person who is living that experience should not be allowed to laugh at themself or straight into the face of that syndrome--which they personally live with every single day of their life.

You see, "Down Syndrome" isn't a person. Trig Palin is not "Down Syndrome."

On the other hand, fools are people. And, Sarah Palin has proved to all of us that she fits the description--and she can't seem to free herself from acting foolish at every turn--and so WE LAUGH AT HER, and will probably continue to laugh at her every chance we get, until she finally understands, G-d willing, that she is acting retar.... ahem .... like a damn fool.

It's late, I'm tired so, again, if I misunderstood you two, I'm sorry--but, it just might be that I've made a mistake where someone who needs it gets a much needed talkin' to.

Anon 6:10 (Bonsai Jay) mentions John C McGinley - who is not only the father of a Downs child (in 1997), but does REAL advocacy for Downs children and has since his child's birth. He talks the talk AND walks the walk - not just treating his kid like a prop.

Note - Family Guy did not single out McGinley for this reason - they are mocking the hypocrisy NOT the downs. And Trig is not the hypocrite either.

I think here is reason why Palin so happy to go after Family Guy and Rahm - they both publically went after her during the election campaign and let's face it, that woman sure can hold a grudge.

The MacFarlane clip is a perfect mocking of the Couric interview:

Rahm calling her out as a liar and unqualified days after she was chosen by McCain:

Andrea is on time and not slow or delaying in her life in anyway.
On the other hand we can look and see who has stopped growth and is not moving forward.

I think Bristol could be a sweet girl, she just needs to quit hiding behind others and show what she can do for herself.
If she can do that, she could be on time and ready to care for a child. Ready or not she will get part custody because that is how it is. I do not think a slow parent should lose custody. A chronic liar is about as destructive and as far from love as it gets, I have no problem with those people losing custody. Visitation is an option. It is tragic when children become attached to people like that.

No one disputes Bristol's lack of independence except a liar or a blind fool.

  74. Munchausen by proxy syndrome (MBPS) is a relatively uncommon condition that involves the exaggeration or fabrication of illnesses or symptoms by a primary caretaker. One of the most harmful forms of child abuse, MBPS was named after Baron von Munchausen, an 18th-century German dignitary known for telling outlandish stories.
    About MBPS

In MBPS, an individual — usually a mother — deliberately makes another person (most often his or her own preschool child) sick or convinces others that the person is sick. The parent or caregiver misleads others into thinking that the child has medical problems by lying and reporting fictitious episodes. He or she may exaggerate, fabricate, or induce symptoms. As a result, doctors usually order tests, try different types of medications, and may even hospitalize the child or perform surgery to determine the cause.

Typically, the perpetrator feels satisfied by gaining the attention and sympathy of doctors, nurses, and others who come into contact with him or her and the child. Some experts believe that it isn't just the attention that's gained from the "illness" of the child that drives this behavior, but also the satisfaction in being able to deceive individuals that they consider to be more important and powerful than themselves.

In the second video of Sarah and O'reily she stated that she could see into the future and that Trig would have a very hard life! Tell us Sayruh, was that a prediction or a promise?

Then along comes this young retarded woman who has the audacity to stand up to the queen of crapola and prove her wrong.

Just how far will Sarah go to keep her little moneymaking, sympathy getting retarded child prop dummed down for spotlight and profit?

Did Andrea Fay awaken her to the fact that with proper care, one day Trig just might reach the point where he no longer needs to share HIS spotlight with mommy dearest?

Does anyone have any knowledge of any medical care that Trig is getting and/or where? Last I read was that Sarah had refused to provide Trig's birth certificate so he could be included in their "family insurance plan".

If Trig is not getting medical care with his condition, would that be considered child neglect or abuse?

We all know Sarah's penchant for dumping that which no longer serves her gigantic bloodsucking ego...... so what then will become of Trig when he no longer serves Sarah's purpose and becomes more of a burden than she is ever willing to face or carry? Will his real mama finally claim him or will he just wander off into the frozen tundra and disappear.

That isolated cabin in the woods has so much potential????????
