I know you are going to find this hard to believe but Eric Cantor lied about bullets fired into his campaign office.

Remember when Republican Whip Eric Cantor came out to talk about the growing violence against the Democrats who voted for the Health Care bill, and said the following?

"Oh that is terrible!" the news media said.

"I guess it IS happening on both sides", they said.

"Oh bullshit!",  I said.  I never believed his lying ass for a minute.  Well guess who was right.

From the Richmond police, by way of the Plum Line.

The Richmond Police Department is investigating an act of vandalism at the Reagan Building, 25 E. Main St., Richmond, Virginia. A first floor window was struck by a bullet at approximately 1 a.m. on Tuesday, March 23. The building, which has several tenants including an office used by Congressman Eric Cantor, was unoccupied at the time.

A Richmond Police detective was assigned to the case. A preliminary investigation shows that a bullet was fired into the air and struck the window in a downward direction, landing on the floor about a foot from the window. The round struck with enough force to break the windowpane but did not penetrate the window blinds. There was no other damage to the room, which is used occasionally for meetings by the congressman.

The Richmond Police Department is sharing information about the incident with appropriate law enforcement agencies.

At this time there are no suspects.

So in order to make the point that BOTH SIDES are engaging in dangerous rhetoric Eric Cantor has to completely misrepresent an accident as an act of aggression against his campaign office.

That, my friend, is what is referred to as an EPIC FAIL.  The Republicans, Sarah Palin, and their Teabagger buddies are the ones inciting violence, NOT the Democrats.

Oh and by the way, if in fact Cantor WAS threatened due to his Jewish heritage (Which I seriously doubt now), I would bet everything I have that it did NOT come from a liberal.

We love the Jews.

It's assholes we don't like.

  1. Anonymous3:54 PM

Sigh. Looks like I'll have to place another (rational, even-tempered) call to Cantor's office to register my disappointment at this incident (he's my rep.). With Cantor and Cuccinelli steering the ship these days, it's going to be a rocky journey.

  2. Kathi in NJ3:54 PM

I was right there with ya Gryphen! Never for a second did I think his office had been attacked. Saw the headline, called BS and kept right on movin'!

  3. Anonymous4:13 PM

Carnahan admitted the coffin was on the street, not his lawn, and that it was taken away.

Cleaver now says someone 'caused spittle to land on his face' which means he got a little too close to someone yelling at him. He is no longer claiming anyone was arrested.

Frank and Clyburn both say that slurs were hurled at them but despite crowds of media and dozens of cell phones, no audio exists. In fact, all the audio that has been found shows nothing.

The libe.....accuse me, progressives, are trying to shift attention away from this horribly unpopular health care FrankenBill.

  4. Anonymous4:13 PM

My sympathies to Anonymous 3:54p.m. who is a constituent of Eric Cantor.

I thought I had bad luck with Brownback and Roberts as our Senators. I have to say, having Cantor just as your Representative takes the prize. Sorry. I hope you can oust him in the fall.

Gryphen - I really liked your last two sentences. That is exactly right - a person's faith or ethnic background doesn't matter (unless someone is a Dominionist), it's whether or not they are assholes. I would assuming that telling lies is a subset of asshole-ism right?

  5. Go fishing4:13 PM

I expect Cantor to keep in character and to lie.

There are people who are getting ready to move to Alaska for the end times. If this TLC fake documentary-style reality series is a hit for the tourist industry in Alaska and progressing new Sarah like citizens, it will be a win for them all. They need to sell their farce now b/c Alaska will soon enough be a more noticible trash dump. The rich can always live in luxury but the poor slave class and what was once middle class will need more of Wasilla's meth and oxy to get by. In 5 years how will that trust fundy dill be working out? As it is now, what teen wouldn't want another snow machine? They can use their fund cash to continue polluting. It's all about the moment, "stay positive" and "have fun" they are told and it will all be fine.

As noted, Palin on Dead Lake pretending to be pristine is the perfect metaphor. When Alaska goes down, so will the rest of the world. It is sad the USA can't handle their own vile, it will take other countries to step up if we stay on this self destructive journey. I will never buy Alaskan salmon again and it was a frequent fav for years. I'd rather travel to Iceland and Patagonia now. Alaska was breathtakingly beautiful but now we know the lies and dastardly deeds they are perpetrating.

Thanks, but no thanksTLC and Alaska
Alaska as “the most fascinating state, with the most fascinating statesperson,” shows sweeping views of the state, and even mentions that Alaska “is two miles from Russia.”
Palin will participate in the show and present stories about Alaska’s quirky denizens and traditions like the Iditarod.

Please, please, please, drive by and see what it looks like!!!!! I want to know if it's obvious that this is affiliated with Cantor. PLEASE!!!!

If you look up the address, there are several other campaign offices at the address, and two or three consultants...It's interesting to see that the minority whip, btw, shares office space with campaign consultants...The police aren't saying this is his office, just that's it's in a building where the office is...

Plus it should be noted that he was apparently uncertain when it happened. Would your boss be so unaware of a "shooting" in your office, even if he/she were off-site?????

  7. Anonymous4:16 PM

    Oh, adding once again...

If he's lying...he should get reprimanded. And lose his job as whip. Seriously. It's ridic...

  8. I heard the police suspect local teabaggers. Apaprently the bullet had Cantor's name on it, but it was misspelled.

  9. I am not reading anything on CNN or elsewhere about this being a fake. I WANT it to be a fake. Does anyone have another source that corroborates the claim of it being a fake?

  10. Uuuuugggggh, the irony of my previous comment having its own misspelling in it is just too much...

  11. Oh it was fake alright.

  12. Anonymous5:00 PM

I wouldn't put it past these tyrants to have the faithful make fake calls, throw bricks and fire guns into their office just to make us look like them. They will forever be know as the Party of H8 and domestic terrorists. It's ironic that Palin in just a few short years has come from accusing Obama of palling around with domestic terrorists to her being the one who pals around and incites domestic terrorists.

  13. Anonymous5:22 PM

    "We love the Jews.
    It's assholes we don't like."

    Excellent line.

  14. ZIRGAR @4:40, this group is gracious and mature. People sometimes make mistakes when they comment. I have made plenty myself. It is no big deal.

  15. Anonymous5:28 PM

Eric Cantor has ALWAYS been a LIAR.. I'd bet real money that there is not ONE example anyone can uncover where Cantor told the truth...

He LIES about everything he has said and supported.

If the bullet could not even penetrate the blinds, then it was not fired from anywhere near the window. Depending of the nature of the bullet and the weapon that could be up to several hundred yards to a mile or more and it would shatter the window and the blind and end up buried in the wall somewhere.

I suppose the shell could have been jury-rigged and fired from a
CO2 pistol or rifle, so would have less force, and also be deliberately aimed at the window.
That seems unlikely if the shooter was angry, but might be very likely if the incident was faked.

  17. Anonymous5:30 PM

Gryph~ i knew the minute it came out of his pie hole...just like the Lou Dobbs lie....

  18. Anonymous5:31 PM

When Karl Rove was in charge of George W Bush's campaign for governor of Texas, Rove staged a "break in" of Bush headquarters. Then Rove played the victim card, claiming that the Democrats had broken into Bush Headquarters. He got lots of sympathy and lots of votes. It worked.

  19. the angle of the trajectory is equal to the square root of the lie.

Never believed a word of it. If his lips are moving, he is lying.

  20. Janet in Texas6:02 PM

I posted on my "Facebook" that the bastard was lying 5 minutes after he spoke. Gotta get up pretty early in the morning to pull the wool over my eyes.

  21. Anonymous6:04 PM

Eric Cantor has always reminded me of a weasel...and I've wondered if he was a member of that species in his last lifetime. Not only does he look the part, but he has proved himself to be only one step up this time around.

  22. Ferry Fey6:36 PM

I heard the police suspect local teabaggers. Apaprently the bullet had Cantor's name on it, but it was misspelled.

    "Rat Con[servative]"

  23. So does anyone suspect Cantor himself shot the gun? I mean really, it would not be unheard of. Please people, don't say bad things about Alaska or the people there (except one or three): if it had not been for the Alaskan bloggers, Gryph, Mudflats, and Shannyn especially, I would not have made it through the last year and one half (campaign, election, and post-election); Alaska is not bad, all the people are not evil (excepting one or three - you know of whom I speak)! OT: Gryphen, check out the interview Begich did today with KTUV Or whatever ... it is posted on the AK blog WTF: great interview. I want a senator like Begich so bad. I may have to move to AK.

  24. OK, I watched part of the video. Sometimes I just skip them and read the comments because I know that to watch them simply elevates my bloodpressure, but I did watch and listen to part of it: Gryphen, he is reading it. He claims to have been attacked, yet he can't speak to it emotionally and off the top of his head? He has written (or someone wrote for him) something and he keeps looking at his copy and reading it and trying to get the inflection and the gestures in the appropriate places. Seriously, watch this again-it is so faked!

  25. Read my last comment: look at his body language, totally faking.

  26. This post reminds me of a famous question... revised to fit the current theme: how can you tell when Eric Cantor is lying?

I am doing an experiment on social media. So I set up a formspring account. Ask me a question, any question but particularly any question on s'error palin, danny sullivan's trust, eric's lies, etc., etc. Be creative. Laugh a little.

  27. Daisydem we like Alaska ! It's the Nitwit that push's our buttons ,and she obviously pushed Alaska to the brink of madness.

  28. Gasman8:12 PM

Notice how carefully Cantor parsed his initial claim:
“A bullet was shot through the window of my campaign office in Richmond this week AND I have received threatening e-mails.”

Note, he doesn’t ever actually come out and say they are connected, he doesn’t even say WHEN he received these threatening e-mails. How much you want to bet he never produces them? He is toeing that line of making a demonstrably untrue statement about alleged crimes. He is nothing more than a typical lying sack of Republican shit.

I hope the Dems put Cantor's balls in a vise on this one. He is abusing his authority as a sitting member of the House of Representatives to knowingly mislead not just the public but law enforcement as well. It would be just peachy if the FBI wasn't as impressed with his parsing of the truth as the press has been.

  29. sallyngarland,tx8:25 PM

The Dallas Morning News- Politics section-is reporting that Al Green (D-Houston) has received 2 threats. One threat was this would be his "last vote." Mr Green is African American. ( I can't do the link on this pc).

Palin makes me sick. She started stirring this stuff up in 2008 and hasn't stopped. She was in TX today and tried to walk back the violence but still said "don't retreat, reload.".

. Palin should be in jail .

  30. Mac And Cheese Wiz9:21 PM

Gasman's review of this farce is spot-on. Of course Cantor's got a thick skin and just seems to mention his faith in passing. Not in a New York minute did I believe him. Convenient that the vandalism and threats are bipartisan now, and it's the Dems that are politicizing it. Guess the fire Pelosi website with the flames is just a figment of our imagination as well?

TPM also called him out on it.

  31. Anonymous1:20 AM

AOL headline still promoting Cantor's lie this morning. Not one thing about the real threats and actions taken against other party.

  32. LoveAndKnishesFromBrooklyn3:01 AM

I thought Cantor's claim was bogus as well, especially when I first heard his press briefing. From his juvenile vocal inflection it was as if he were implying: "Me too--me too! The Dems are just as responsible for hateful behavior as the Teabaggers--no, even more! Nyah, nyah!"

BTW, it was brought up yesterday that Mr. Cantor, with his Jewish heritage, NEVER ONCE came out in protest of the Teabaggers' usage of horrifying Hitler, Nazi and Holocaust imagery in their manufactured protest signs. Is he being ordered to look the other way, or is this acceptable because it's a Bagger meme against the President? Hmmm.

  33. Anonymous3:13 AM

I love your blog, Grypen. But what is going on with Palin? Please bring this witch down. I am also curious to know what is going on with the Johnston's. Haven't heard much lately. I firmly believe that Palin has something on that family that is preventing Levi from speaking up about Palin's deceptions. And it is big!!! I only wish that there will come a time for all of the JOhnston's to fess up about her. Regardless of the consequences. She is an evil that needs to be shut down.

  34. Anonymous3:15 AM

By the way - Do you know what ever happened to Levi's father? Also, what is his full name?

  35. Anonymous4:21 AM

This is like the anthrax scare cheney used to pass the patriot act. In fact, cheney, at one point claimed he was anthrax infected, too, just to distract form his crimes. If he was infected perhaps it was because he licked one of the anthrax laced envelopes he sent out. another g.o.p. (greed over principle) coverup.

"Carnahan admitted the coffin was on the street, not his lawn, and that it was taken away."

Regardless of the eventual location of the coffin, this group of teabaggers had a rally where they threw boots and shoes at a picture of the Congressman, then torched the picutre while shouting Death to the Dictator. Nice peaceful folk ya know.

  37. It would be great to hear Cantor or any politician stand up and give corrected accurate information.
Yesterday we have a response from the majority Repubs to counter an attack the other side is politicizing and diminish incidents. Evidently Palin's rhetoric and map targeting people with cross hairs is acceptable also for her map still stands.

Reading well thought out comments to petition Discovery re: their choice of Palin gives me faith and hope in America that the majority of people are civilized, rational and decent and take a stand against lies for fear and hate mongering, terrorizing people for power, against illiteracy and con artists, perpetrators of violence.

Hearing the phone call from a women enraged and hysterical thretening a congressman on the basis she won't be able to keep her insurane or her doctor is a cler example of violence stemming from repub lies. Even an active effort to inform people of fact Sarah Palin will brainwash people truth is "lies" to her followers and they seem to get more violent the longer she is allowed to run her distortion campaign.

Her supporters suffer delusions, beliefs they have that no matter facts and truth given to them are rejected. The GOP has chosen to follow and do nothing while Palin destroys the fabric of democracy inciting hatred and violence THEN she dismisses it! She uses that to attack MSM. She is pathalogical.

  38. Anonymous6:38 AM

the trajectory of the bullet indicates it was shot into the air and hit the window on it's way back down.

  39. Anonymous6:41 AM

I'm as impatient as everyone else anticipating the big fall of Sarah Palin. I try and see what may be positive about her long 15 minutes. Well, I came up with the fact that, she is exposing her like-minded co-horts, the ones who have come to her aid. Hopefully, it will be the fall of ALL of them.

  40. This is my rep. and I can tell you he's very popular here in Richmond. Why, I can't tell you - he's a dick through and through.
I just heard on MSNBC that the Richmond Police are saying that this wasn't fired at his office but it came from a gun being fired up in the air. Hopefully if it's on one cable news outlet the rest will follow - Faux being the exception of course.

About Cantor's "bullet" - From CNN Web site

Lawmaker's office struck by 'random gunfire'
    Posted: March 26th, 2010 10:00 AM ET
(CNN) - A bullet that landed in the office of House Minority Whip Eric Cantor was the result of "random gunfire," police in Richmond, Virginia said Friday.

Cantor, the No. 2 Republican in the House of Representatives, told reporters Thursday that a bullet was shot through a window at his campaign office in Richmond, Virginia. He also said he had received threatening messages.

In a news release Thursday, police said the bullet struck at about 1 a.m. on Tuesday. The preliminary investigation showed that "a bullet was fired into the air and struck the window in a downward direction, landing on the floor about a foot from the window. The round struck with enough force to break the windowpane but did not penetrate the window blinds. There was no other damage to the room, which is used occasionally for meetings by the congressman."

The building, which has several tenants including an office used by Cantor, was unoccupied at the time, the news release said.

Richmond police spokesman Gene Lepley told CNN Friday that it was the result of "random gunfire."

Gryphen: You need to see at C4P a video they made "Quit Makin things Up. They cherry picked sound bites of Cantor, Boehner, Palin and Beck saying violence is not an answer.
Therefore we are to conclude we have "made up" incidents of violence and the rhetoric and lies (remeber death panels..kill grandma and Trig?)..we made it up and no one was angry or threatened violence. They provided a sound bite of Obama as proof he owns the violence.

I conclude Palin supporters are ok with targets and crosshairs..very sick.

  43. mocha7:19 AM

I think the Republicans are the biggest bunch of babies. They were out in front of the Capitol deliberately trying to intimidate Democratic lawmakers. People WERE indeed handcuffed and detained by the Capitol police on Saturday, but the individuals involved declined to press charges. They did what Jesus advised, and turned the other cheek. Now that they've been called out for their bully tactics, the teabaggers are playing victim and making excuses. My favorite is the one about "well, why did they dare to just walk through the group of protesters? They were egging it on and got what they deserved." Yeah, just like a woman who is raped "deserved" it for being on the wrong end of town or wearing the wrong clothing. Anon at 4:13, you aren't fooling anyone with your "waah, we're the victims" baby routine. That is what 7th grade schoolyard bullies do when called out or stood up to. We will stand up to the likes of you. Now run along and try to grow up.

  44. Anonymous7:59 AM

Best defense here is to have his security detail fire their guns up into the air and take out "Random"

  45. Anonymous8:12 AM

Daily Kos said that it is almost impossible for anyone to know that this building had a campaign office for Cantor due to the fact that the office is located in the 3rd district while Cantor represents the 7th district. There is also no markings or posters that would notify anyone and finally there is no record of this address on his campaign website. How would anyone know that Mr. Cantor had an office there? He is just a stupid lying opportunistic weasel. Or worse he planned the whole thing thankfully these Rethugicans are not very bright in fact they are reta... I mean special.

  46. Anonymous6:13 PM

Like duh, does nayone wiht an IQ over 85 actually believe Cantor?

  47. Anonymous6:39 PM

Wait. I thought the first report claimed it was "multiple RPG rounds fired by an angry mob of health-care-emboldened dark-skinned socialists". This less-sinister update must be reassuring to conservatives everywhere...

  48. Anonymous11:49 PM

Talking Points Memo now says that the event happened Tuesday at 1 A.M. and that Cantor didn't know it was was randomly fired until after his press conference. Really? Mr. Cantor! Really?

  49. Anonymous7:49 AM

THe question should not be whether or not Cantor lied, but WHY the mainstream news media chose to publicise the details of alleged attacks against Republicans? None of the details of the acts against Democrats were described in detail.
