From Raw Story:
A rare and endangered species of sea turtle is being burned alive in BP's controlled burns of the oil swirling around the Gulf of Mexico, and a boat captain tasked with saving them says the company has blocked rescue efforts.
Mike Ellis, a boat captain involved in a three-week effort to rescue as many sea turtles from unfolding disaster as possible, says BP effectively shut down the operation by preventing boats from coming out to rescue the turtles.
"They ran us out of there and then they shut us down, they would not let us get back in there," Ellis said in an interview with conservation biologist Catherine Craig.
Part of BP's efforts to contain the oil spill are controlled burns. Fire-resistant booms are used to corral an area of oil, then the area within the boom is lit on fire, burning off the oil and whatever marine life may have been inside.
"Once the turtles get in there they can't get out," Ellis said.
Here is an interview conducted with Captain Ellis.
Is this the company that Rand Paul accused President Obama of being un-American for criticizing? And the same company that Republican Representative Joe Barton apologized to after he accused President Obama of engaging in a "shakedown" for extracting 20 billion dollars out of these criminals?
You know I try to give people, and companies, the benefit of the doubt, but I do not have one bit of sympathy left for this company. As far as I am concerned they can sell off their stock to pay the people suffering in the Gulf, and close up shop any day now.
Simply put, fuck em!
Gryphen, I second that last statement, and fuck the Republican scum that support them. I am so outraged I could cry.
ReplyDeleteSue in Kansas
Simply put, fucking, greedy, heartless bastards! But then what can we expect from people with no soul? It's important to get as many pictures of dead and suffering animals from this tragedy and associate them with BP by using tons of videos and pictures. It would be terrific, Gryphen if we had bumper stickers too. Maybe we could get AKM to sell them on her site. I would buy them.
ReplyDeleteI saw that report yesterday and commented on it on one of your posts. It is simply UNCONSCIONABLE what they are doing!
ReplyDeleteAll the pain we are feeling as a country you can blame on the Bush administration. Old George exceeded all expectations of how badly he could screw things up. He has turned this once great country into a third world country.and as far as blaming everything on Bush yes I am. Because of his family's greed he destroyed us and it continues.
ReplyDeleteThis has become barbaric. And Barton and Bachmann are accusing the administration of financially blackmailing BP?
ReplyDeleteFuck BP, fuck those who have voted against regulating the oil companies and fuck the repub party for protecting BP and other oil companies.
Just when you think it can't get any worse...!
ReplyDeleteYou mean to tell me that BP couldn't work out some sort of arrangement to allow the good captain to go in and rescue as many turtles as he can find, and then burn off the surface oil after he left? What is wrong with these people? What the hell is going on? What do they gain from this behavior? We are outraged and they are emotionally detached. And why does it seem like there is more of them than us?
ReplyDeleteI wished I believed in Hell because I would damn each and every one of them to the lowest, hottest ring in Hell. Look at Dante's tale, you can see right where they belong.
ReplyDeleteOh, wait - it doesn't matter if I believe in Hell or not if THEY do. Yeah, I hope they are true believers, because there are reservations waiting for them.
What I can't figure out is why the Coast Guard is letting BP tell the volunteers what they can and cannot do. Shouldn't the Coast Guard be the government's representatives at sea? Are these areas outside our zone of authority?
Yet - why is BP bossing people around on shore as well. Damn, damn, and double damn those greedy you-know-whats.
I am going to write an email on whitehouse.gov and let them know that we want explanations as to why BP is getting away with this outrageous and inhumane behavior. Please join me.

BP must die! Corps R people now right? Hang 'em high!
Everyone needs to remember "Drill baby Drill" this nov. and any repub is drill baby drill! And if the Granny Grifter Bitch runs in 2012 let Drill baby drill haunt her for ever! Americans will never forget this!
ReplyDeleteand I thought humans were supposed to be evolving? this is a new low.
ReplyDeletehey sarah did todd cash his monthly check from BP yet?
I was so disappointed to watch how the neocons were able to spin away the blame for all of this, from Bush/Cheney, to OBAMA, during the last several weeks.
ReplyDeleteThe common dufuss on the street has NO idea of how the events came about, being essentially the result of removing all regulations the oil companies used to have to abide by.
Thankfully, the gleeful swine at Fox News, are now scrambling to figure out how to deal with the likes of Barton, Paul, Palin, and Bachmann, as they keep screwing up the whole thing by TALKING, and showing their true colors.
It just keeps getting worse and honest to god, I think we've just seen the tip of the iceberg. I, for one, do not expect the much anticipated relief wells to work by August - at least not without many tries. The Ixtoc spill took five relief wells before they were able to make it work, in much shallower water. The inferior quality casing that BP used on the Deepwater Horizon may not withstand the attempts.
ReplyDeleteLast week, I read somewhere on the Internet that a recent spill (on land) from a 35 inch pipe had been carrying 400,000 barrels a day. They've said all along that the Deepwater Horizon casing is 31 inches. I'm no mathematician...but seems to me that if a 35" pipe can carry 400,000 barrels a day, a 31" casing would produce more than 100,000 barrels a day especially at that extreme pressure. But I'm no expert and no doubt am looking at the dark side. My totally uneducated and inexpert guess is that well is spewing over a quarter million barrels a day into our Gulf. Fuck BP.
I agree with all the above comments about Republicans, their corporations, their stupid, greedy supporters and I agree with Fuck BP. It can't be said loud enough. I've got FuchsNoise and any station that said Fox, blocked on my TV. They don't even show in the line-up.
I can see a BP station from my balcony. I don't sit out there and watch all day but every time I check, I see the same car parked at a pump, the owner/manager seems to move the car to different pumps during the day. All the other stations up and down the road are busy but NOBODY is going into his station. I live only 4 miles from the Gulf & 7 miles from Tampa Bay. Fuck BP.
There are no words that work. The great mother screams in agony.
ReplyDeleteDid anyone see Lisa Murkowski on the news tonight talking pro the oil industry in a much slower and softer presentation than is her normal. Made me sick. I'll do everything I can to assure she is not re-elected.
ReplyDeleteSo now BP owns the water in the Gulf of Mexico? What legal right do they have to run anyone off from anywhere in the Gulf, unless it is on one of their platforms?
ReplyDeleteThe People of The United States America hereby demand all meeting minutes from former Vice Dick Cheney regarding the "Energy Task Force". Failure to comply will result in the harshest penalties.
ReplyDeleteI approved this message.
BP - the whole world is watching. You deserve to perish.
ReplyDeleteAwesome Video - if you haven't seen it yet.

Krog Street in Atlanta send message to BP!
" Is it my imagination or this the most evil company on the planet?"
ReplyDelete-- it is your imagination. shit like this happen.
"As far as I am concerned they can sell off their stock to pay the people suffering in the Gulf, and close up shop any day now."
ReplyDeleteWhich is it? Do you want BP to make payments or suffer an ignominious death? Can't have both.
If they close up shop, they go into bankruptcy, their stock is literally worthless, and their assets are tied up for years with $143bb in creditors fighting for their share before anyone gets paid. If you want the people suffering to get help from BP, you want them to stay in business.
Otherwise, go for it, fuck BP. We the taxpayers can shoulder a massive gulf coast bailout on our own too, right?
BP does not have the authority to keep anyone out. They tried to stop people from cleaning up the beaches too, but the police told BP they have no authority. BP was surprised.
ReplyDeleteThey are trying to stop pictures and rescues and keep spraying dispersant to make the oil invisible for the sole purpose of keeping their liability down.
Most evil company on the planet? Worse than weapons companies, chemical weapons companies, businesses that do human trafficking, etc.? Worse than Blackwater or Halliburton? Your judgement needs some fine-tuning.
ReplyDeleteIt isn't bad enough that so much of our waters are polluted and sea animals are dying off. Bury some alive to hide their misdeed!! I want to cry!
ReplyDeleteI hope when it comes time to vote people remember Drill baby Drill. Or will all the Bush/McCain/Paylin supporters just forget all about those creatures dying. After all their just animals.
People who scream for the heads of BP and others seriously crack me up. It's our demand for petroleum products that leads to this. It's not just gas, but every single thing you touch throughout the day. Everyone who uses a product that is created with complex hydrocarbons (and here's a tip, anyone who's reading this or posting here does) is culpable in this spill.
ReplyDeleteHypocrites.
I got this via FB. It is awful and disastrous.
ReplyDeleteTo Finger Pointer: 8:44
ReplyDeleteYes we use oil, yes we need oil. But what enrages me about this mess is that BP knowingly drilled for oil using a method that (not IF but) WHEN it failed (as it did) they had NO recourse to stop the leak.
To me this isn't just unconscionable, it is criminal.
Accidents happen. When my 10 year old spills milk - accident - but hey guess what! I KNOW HOW TO CLEAN IT UP!
When a multi-billion dollar oil company knowingly endangers an entire region of our country by drilling for oil when they knew they had no way to stop the leak if what happened, happened, let alone clean it up, this is not finger pointing, this is demand for accountability.
The problem here is not that BP drilled for oil. The problem is that they drilled for oil using a method that WHEN it failed they had absolutely no solution or recourse to stop the spill.
I am sick and tired of people saying that we are all to blame for this spill. The company that is to blame for this spill is the one that decided it was okay to take the risk that caused the biggest environmental disaster in the history of the United States because they had no contingency plan in the event of disaster. THIS IS CRIMINAL!!!!
How anyone can condone, excuse or try to point blame anywhere else absolutely blows me mind.
This is sick, just sick. I do not care how they clean up the spill but if they are MURDERING innocent animals than that is unacceptable. This spill should never have happened in the first place. I will NEVER buy gas/food/anything from BP again as long as I live.
ReplyDeleteIts as though BP is the drug producer, manufacturing "crack" for sale ,to the huge group of crack head users, the public. Some of the users have tried cold turkey, some have gone to rehab and are trying to quit in informed ways,a small few have actually kicked the habit, most with the help of Methadone,in the form of alternative energy. What we need is more, better supplies of that Methadone. But we have to do the rehab ,too, and learn how to get along without the crack.
ReplyDeleteHey guys. Story is sad but I am sure BP have a side to the story also? Anyone check that out?
ReplyDeleteHey idiot @ 8:15 maybe we can throw you out there instead of the turtles? See how you like it?
ReplyDeleteI don't care about BP side BooHoo!
Ah, reactionary AND one sided posts. Classic.
ReplyDeleteAgain we say: Haliburton and Exxonn are innocent are they? Just because for once it lands on your door step you point fingers and call people evil.
How about the 1.5million tonnes of oil that has been spilling into the Niger Delta by Exxon and Shell for years? Did you hear about that lately? Is anyone doing anything about forcing them to clean up their act or at least stop the continual spill?
http://www.thecasualtruth.com/story/oil-curse-niger-delta
"Shell alone spilt over 16 million litres last year, while ExxonMobil spilt 4 million litres just last month."
Before you blame BP remember it was all American firms doing the contracting to produce the oil for the American market, if they didn't think it was safe what were they doing on the job? Oh that's right it was money, money paid for by US demand for oil.
Perhaps some good will come from the gulf spill, because safety will be tightened yet again, but what is happening in Africa? And what are you doing about that?
I think the title of "Most Evil Company on the Planet" is still held by Goldman Sachs.
