From Kansas City.com:
Late this afternoon the NAACP passed a resolution calling on all people — including tea party leaders — to condemn racism within the tea party movement.
Passed on the fourth day of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People’s annual convention in Kansas City, the resolution also urged people to oppose what it said was the tea party’s drive “to push our country back to the pre-civil rights era.”
“We feel it’s very important that we educate our membership about the tea parties,” said Anita Russell, head of the Kansas City branch of the NAACP, as the debate on the resolution began. “We are concerned that there is a racist element within the tea parties.”
Good for them! I am glad that somebody is finally holding this movement responsible for the unconscionable use of racist rhetoric and ridiculous charges of socialism and fascism that are aimed at our president for no other reason than that he is a black man and they simply cannot accept him as the leader of their country.
Why else would they have remained silent as George Bush destroyed the economy, the military, and the reputation of America, yet the minute Obama steps foot in the White House SUDDENLY they are outraged and demanding accountability? If they did not speak up for eight years of George Bush, and can only find their outrage when they can direct it at an African American, then they are racists!
They can bitch and moan about how unfair it is to call them a racist all they want, but you know if the white hooded sheet fits......
Amen. It's about time!
ReplyDeleteDid you stupid Sarah made fun of this? She mocked the NAACP in a tweet.
ReplyDeleteI have read of several proven supremicist groups that are members of the tea party. They are allowed to call themseves tea party and it's on their website. Of course not all are but there should be none. Holding up signs pod concentration camp victims is ok Sarah? Photos of Obama as Hitler are ok?
Sarah makes me sick. She's such a stupid white trash redneck. She's the one who doesn't get "real America" and I don't know a single woman who likes her.
I would also add: many of the ring-wing Republicans and Tea Partiers didn't speak out against Bush not only because he was white but also because he presented an uneducated, have-a-beer-with me persona (though he was in fact a preppie, privileged pretend rancher who attended the best prep schools, the highest Ivy league colleges and held a MBA). Even though he destroyed every business he started (with the help of Poppy Bush) and was bailed out repeated by Poppy's buddies, he was "one of them."
ReplyDeleteGW Bush was a frat boy whose brain cells were destroyed by decades of heavy drinking.
On the other hand, not only is President Obama black, he pulled himself up from a modest background, worked his way through school, went to top schools and earned a law degree and law license. He actually worked at jobs that he did not ruin, and tried, in those jobs, to help those less fortunate. He does not project a "have-a-drink" persona because he would rather have you join him eat a hamburger and talk about issues that matter. He actually pays for the fast food he eats in photo ops. He makes sure the people get tips as well. The Bushes were notorious for stiffing working people just as Sarah does.
So, is it really any surprise that the Tea Partiers can't identify with President Obama? He is half-black, self-made, and a hard worker dedicated to helping others. He doesn't make excuses or blame others; he just does what it takes to get the job done.
How could the right-wingers bond with that?
I truly believe that the election of 08 lit a fire under EVERYONE - not just because of Sarah, not just because of Pres Obama. It's not because Pres Obama is black. Everything stems from his background, his associations, and the fact that he's been proven a liar. Barack H Obama?: The Consummate politician - He was Sarah Palin before she went national. "outraged dems" need to realize that 1. prejudice is natural 2. we make judgments based on more things than color 3. IT DOESNT MEAN WE DISLIKE THE PERSON.
ReplyDeleteI was highly offended by the first ladys remarks, that black people need to step it up. How come she and her husband and drop the race card, yet when rightwing tea partiers do, they're called fascist? Ridiculous. Yes, people are still more willing to trust a white person over a black person, but men are still more trusted than women and gays are not respected at all - by peoples of both parties, genres, incomes, ages and whatnot.
It's wonderful that Americans (tea partiers) are finally opening their eyes to our corrupt government - that didn't begin with W and won't end with the next President. It's unfortunate that the tea party movement overshadowed the inauguration of our first black President.
Dems and Reps both just need to hate less and realize that we are ALL in this together - time to stand up for our country - BY PUTTING AN END TO GENERALIZATIONS
Glenn Beck is not evil, Fox news is not the only biased network, Sarah Palin does more good than harm in inspiring America to fight for our freedoms. I truly believe we're all guilty of too much hate.

Ditto what ManxMamma said. The twitter twit has come out against this resolution. She seems to think that tea people are not racists.
ReplyDelete~Scorpie
Sarah did not mock the NAACP. She spoke the truth about the core of the movement and asked her twitter followers to keep updated
ReplyDeleteAnon.. If you really think Sarah has done more good, then harm.. It's hard to believe anything you say.
ReplyDeleteYou are offensive.
I think it is time for psychiatric evaluations like this doctor's manual before freaks like Scarah get a VP nom and put on the national stage to incite such hatred and violence:

To Annoy-e-mus @ 3:33 (double that number; the devil is in the details.)
ReplyDeleteYour post reminds me of this quote:
"That wo(man) is an idiot."
paraphrsing Keith Olbermann.
Since when is calling anyone a 'racist' so much worse than the words used by a lot of those tea party 'racists' when they are referring to our President -- all day and every day?
ReplyDeleteEspecially §P -- she has never had anything 'un-racist' to say when smearing/making light of/putting down President Obama. Guess this is true -- IOKIYAR?
(from anon. @3:33:"by peoples of both parties, genres, incomes, ages and whatnot." WHATNOT? ? ? -- Now where have we heard that before? :o)
@Anonymous 3:33,
ReplyDeleteYou are either the most well mannered troll and/or one of the most naive persons I have ever run across on the Internet.
Here is an excellent essay by Tim Wise on both Sarah Palin and race relations in this country:

Anon @ 3:33 And whatnot? Where have I heard that word recently?
ReplyDelete@ anonymous 3:33 PM
ReplyDeleteYours is a typical R&R rant.
R&R? Rationalizing racist.
You're right that we're all guilty of too much hate, but hiding behind rationalizations of your own obvious racism undermines any credibility your post might have had.
Thank you NAACP for calling for all groups to condemn racism and asking the tea party to step up to the table. If they are truely not racist they should have no problem condemning racism.
ReplyDeleteI was personally offended by the people bringing monkey's representing OBama that some held up at Sarah's rallies when she was a VP candidate and the fact that she encouraged the hate and the obvious racial implications. I think those are the people who morphed out to the tea party as we see the same type of behavior in signs of him in african paint and a bone in his nose at tea party events.
So, anonymous 3:33 PM thinks the main problem is "generalizations," instead of racism? Talk about using an euphemism for the ugly reality!
ReplyDeleteI challenge him/ her and anybody else laboring under the delusion that racism is not a pervasive and potent force in our society, especially the Tea Party, to read the following truly EPIC link (if you have the guts and the brains to read it, that is):

Anon@3:33,
ReplyDeleteShe was right. Some of us stepped up, and some of us didn't. Those are the ones she's targeting. There's nothing wrong with telling people to grow up using nice words. That's essentially what she did. My parents stepped up. My brothers stepped up. I stepped up. I lived under segregation and through the civil rights movement. I let none of that stop me. Went to college, obtained multiple graduate degrees, and taught for 33 years, so I won't listen to "but I can't do that" BS. One chooses to either step up or get stepped on.
Is VO back again? Looks like time for me to bail from around here. The trolls are busy bees, determined to derail the conversation.
ReplyDelete“We are concerned that there is a racist element within the tea parties.”
ReplyDeleteRacist element, like is documented in numerous photos and videos. It can't be that difficult to discern racist element from calling someone racist. Sarah is not a worthy mother and her parenting scandals limit her. I would think she welcomes this fight. It riles her base.
To Anonymous with the video link:
ReplyDeleteWho is trying to take God from you? That is what the gentleman in the video stated. Are you stopped from worshipping as you choose?
My family and friends have fought in wars. We are real Americans too. We all vote Democrat and are liberals. For your information this is not a God fearing Country. What about other religions and people who don't believe at all?
The one point I agree with there is too much hate. Please name one thing Sarah has done for the good of this country. I am not being rude. I would like to know the answer.
It will be a cold day in hell before the teabaggers will condemn racism. The people with the signs using the "n" word along with other racial epitaphs are just "real americans".
ReplyDeleteIf the current president was part of the same party as the previous president, then I'd heartily agree with your viewpoint that racist people stayed quiet under Bush but spoke up when a black leader came into office. But, that wasn't the only change. A Democrat replaced a Republican.
ReplyDeleteI agree, there are many in our country who hate having a black president (both Democrats and Republicans). However, there is so much more to the charge of socialism than race. Fundamentally, it is based on the Democratic party's approach to big government control and not due to the president's race.
If President Obama were Hispanic, Asian. Jewish, Buddhist, etc. Tea Party members would still disparage him. They feel only white Christians are entitled. Can you imagine the outrage if we had a Jewish President?
