Chris Matthews: "The sky is falling! The sky is falling!" or even worse "Sarah Palin might be our next President!"

Visit msnbc.com for breaking news, world news, and news about the economy

Clearly Chris Matthews does not keep up with the tabloids and gossip sites or he would be more aware of the information that MOST voters in this country are currently receiving about Sarah Palin and her family.

And yes he is right that fundamentalists Christians, those people who have been encouraged all of their lives to believe rather than to think, will most likely support Palin by the thousands.  However outside of that Biblical bubble she remains incredibly toxic.

Look Chris Matthews tends to be a very excitable guy. And yes Palin is somebody who causes a very visceral response from people. But the reason that MOST Americans pay any attention to her at all is not because they are seriously considering her as a leader to look up to, but rather because they see her as a sideshow freak who has wandered away from the circus tent and is now walking among the regular folk.

I mean sure among the Jerry Springer show participants, and the people who learn how to live their lives by watching reality shows on television, she must seem like their queen.  But among the Americans who really want the best for this country she is a cautionary tale used to illustrate just how stupid certain people are that a politician like her can garner ANY support at all.

The really amazing thing is that Chris Matthews and other political pundits don't seem to realize that she doesn't even WANT the job!

Sarah Palin has no intention of really trying to win the presidency and running this country.  Are you kidding?  Do you know how HARD that job is?

She just wants to run for the job, and get the opportunity to stand in front of hand picked adoring fans, ride around in a campaign bus, and trot out her incredibly dysfunctional family for all of her crazed right wing supporters to admire. "Oh look Cletus! Both of her daughters are pregnant now!  And that older boy has that same crazy look in his eyes that your cousin Billy Bob had before he started strangling Gramma's chickens that last Fourth of July!  Ain't they just wonderful?"

Oh yeah Sarah will be right in her element up until people start taking the fun out of it by asking her "gotcha questions" and demanding that she "know things".  When that happens she will have to drop out because:

A) She decides that she can have more of an influence on this country without a title. (After all can a president get HIS kids on the cover of People magazine, US Weekly, The National Enquirer, and "Hot Poppin Mamas" all in the SAME week?  No I didn't think so!)

B) She quits to spend more time with her family. (Ha ha ha!  Sorry that one just cracks me up!)

C) God speaks to her and convinces her to start her own church, open to everybody except brown people, Democrats, and the "lame stream" media.  You know, only "real Amerikuns" allowed.

You just watch and see.  If Sarah Palin can even get to the first round of debates among the GOP contenders it will be nothing short of a miracle. But you know I kind of hope she does. I cannot think of a better night of television than watching the Republicans who have watched helplessly as she has done everything in he power to help destroy their party finally get the chance to rip her to shreds in front of the national media.

You know that reminds me, I need more popcorn.

I wish I could moderate a GOP primary debate with Sarah.

    Question:

"Governor, you quit halfway through your term because you said that attacks on your office made it impossible for you to govern. As you know the job of President carries with it daily attacks on the office from various forms of opposition. What assurances can give the American people that, given your history, you wouldn't also quit in the middle of your Presidential term?"

I have to admit, I often daydream about that very debate between Republican candidates. I agree, she doesn't want the job of president because she already has a job: the perpetual victim. Losing the nomination would cement her role of the victim and she can forever more blame the media for keeping her out of the WH. Plus she can stick "former presidential candidate" in front of her name and earn even bigger bucks. Clever plan, Scarah. Chris Matthews and everyone else need to get a grip, it's all a ruse.

Palin once refused to answer a question posed by moderator Gwen Ifill during the vice-presidential debates, electing instead to spew one of her own homespun talking points.

I for one would love to see any moderator take all the time necessary to make sure the little shithead answers what she is asked: she'd shrivel up and die right on the spot like the weed she is. I would also love to see a moderator ask your question too. :-)

Whether or not she can become President, whether or not she wants to be President, she can do irreparable damage just running for office.

Missouri's Tea Partiers came out in force yesterday. Look up the results of their primary. Not pretty. Just look how the voters swallowed that crap against "Obama Care." It is scary.

The Kansas primary was also terrifying. Tea Party-like Republicans (and a few Dems) won their slots by huge margins. Kobach, who wrote the AZ immigration law, is almost a shoe-in for Sec. of State for KS where he wants to pass a similar law.

Please don't underestimate the danger of these folks. Sarah has started boiling the pot and all the scum is rising. I don't know if there are enough active voters who can skim that scum off fast enough to stop them from taking over.

For example, only 22 percent of the registered voters actually voted in Kansas!

Government doesn't just happen at the top levels - its the local and state folks who can create profound changes for the better or worse.

You have to vote to keep these crazies from taking over. You have to donate money to non-crazy politicians. Sitting back laughing at them will not stop them. I laugh at them, but I also get out and campaign and vote against them. Please do so as well.

She's not running. If the family were bracing for a run, it would be out of the question for Bristol to contact the press to air her trashy soap opera. Advisors would have such a clamp on that family at this point, that even aa rebelious, classless Bristol would not dare to contact the tabloids like TMZ and Radar, before a presidential run.

Sarah is often introduced as the former governor of Alaska and vice presidential candidate. If she runs for president, she can add: and former presidential candidate to her resume.

When she personally ran against Obama in 2008, she compared herself to him, claiming that she had more executive experience. Let's see how four years as president stacks up against mayor of a town of 5,000. (My kid's high school has 5,000 kids. The principal has as much experience as the former mayor of Wasilla). Two years out of four as governor. Quitting both the energy panel and her only other job with executive experience really is not a plus.

I too find it hard to believe she really wants to endure the scrutiny of a national campaign. She doesn't have John McCain to protect her and deflect attacks. There's also no way she'd get out of releasing her full medical records as a presidential candidate. And her tax returns, of course. ;)

How long does it take for Bristol and Levi to break up? Are they still waiting for some TV network to call them with an offer of a series? Their life really is a soap opera, and they seem to play it out for money in the media instead of dealing with their issues in private.

This can't be good for Tripp. In fact, it really does come close to emotional abuse. I remember when the judge had to admonish Todd and Sarah to stop insulting their former brother-in-law, Trooper Wooten, in front of his kids because it did amount to child abuse. What Sarah is doing to Bristol and Tripp falls into the same category.

"Advisors would have such a clamp on that family at this point"

The thing is, Palin doesn't listen to anyone. You can see this same attitude playing out more publicly with Sharron Angle running for Senate in NV. She has gone through 3 press advisors in 10 days because she doesn't listen, she doesn't learn and she just can't help being herself and wondering why the more she gets out there and acts like herself, the less support she has. I think this is what Palin is doing too. We already know from Steve Schmidt that no one could tell her what to do, that she strayed from the talking points and could not memorize the platform points of her own campaign. But I am convinced she will run. That the men won't lay a glove on her in a debate because they don't want to seem mean. I think she'll last through the early caucuses if she has enough money. She is dangerous people. You may think it's fun to sit back and laugh but look at what just happened in Missouri. They got out the right wing nut job vote with the anti Obama Care Proposition. This is what they did in 2004 with their anti-gay marriage initiatives, they got out the right wing churchie voters. If the right wingers get out and vote and right-thinking folks stay home, she could conceivably win. Anything can happen so it is unwise to sit back and laugh. Get out and support your candidates.

  26. I partly disagree. I don't think she can get elected. But I do believe she desperately wants the job...believes she deserves it...and that Matthews, Olbermann and others in the media are encouraging it. Heck, KeithO once said he'd contribute to her PAC because her candidacy would be so much fun.

The Republicans may or may not demolish her during the primaries. If they don't think they can beat Pres. Obama, they might decide to let her be their sacrificial candidate. At the top of the ticket, she can run however she likes with no one forcing her to do hard interviews or debates.

Someone needs to do what the MSM won't -- find a way to expose her NOW. Anything that proves her mental instability will do.

I agree whole-heartedly with all three of you. Her value at this point is whipping up the nuts. She's good at it. I haven't watched the KS and MO happenings of yesterday but will do that in a minute.

If she were to run, it might be a scenario like "let's see how we can change the way primaries are run". It wouldn't surprise me at all to see her boycott debates. And what if she did that? What could anyone do? That wouldn't keep her off the ballot in a primary would it? Then what would her followers do if she lost a primary? They would go nuts and resort to their "second amendment remedies" that Angle and maybe others have mentioned.

The mealy-mouthed Repubs deserve any chaos that she has created. They've stood by, not spoken out against her, played to her base as much as they dare, afraid to alienate them, afraid to anger Limbaugh and look what they've got on their hands. If there are things about Palin that any Repubs know but are waiting until the right time to speak up, they could easily wait too long.

Not that she'd be willing to give up her preferred way of grifting to go to Washington but the havoc, the chaos, the distraction...

She needs to be shut down ASAP.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Please, Gryphen and others, Palin will not answer the questions in the or any debte scenario. I can't erase from my mind Pat Buchanan's joy and elation prclaiming how Palin "beat" Biden post debate. I was stunned Palin was allowed and even went so far to announce she would not be answering the questions and she'd be telling people what they neded to know! So, biden was alone..debating..answering questions and Palin allowed mostly give an infomercial about Palin..how freaking unfair was that? Then the true champion was Joe the Plumber...wth was that VP debate about? Aren't these debates for the public to hear both candidates address the issues, their beliefs, solutions, and stance based on the questions?

Palin won't go on the news show circuit. She'll continue to tweet, rant of FB...unchallenged and Fox news. It's worked so far for her so why stop? I'd be surprised if she did any Town Hall meetings uless she could control the questions and plant people ahead of time to ask questions she wants to answer.

If any candidate has an arm to control things remains to be seen. If the public accepts Palin being Palin, making her own rules also remains to be seen.

I'll commment on the links about the Palin family on the other thread.

Chris Matthews IMO is highly supportive of Palin and has done much promoting of her. He's convinced me he wants her as POTUS

Previously, I have watched Chris Matthews fawn over this idiot as if she were the Second Coming. For that very reason, I have lost respect for him and hardly watch his show at all.

No matter how much comic relief she provides, it would be a big mistake to underestimate her ability to damage political discourse--which she has already done. On one hand, I could see her not running as she makes more money now than she ever would as president. On the other, she has a huge ego that outstrips her mental intelligence or moral integrity.

Her ascendancy has shown that all elections are important everywhere in keeping her and her ilk from ever gaining or regaining power. So, complacency about her stupidity is not an option. Only voting to keep the forces of reaction at bay will stop people like her.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Except her fellow Republicans are cowards and they wouldn't rip her to shreds in publicized debates because that would open the door to more perpetual victimhood whining on her part and cost them potential votes from the spittle-flecked crowd that now forms the majority of the Republican party.

I am actually starting to feel a twinge of sympathy for moderate Republicans (especially after reading this incredibly scary Mother Jones article: http://motherjones.com/politics/2010/08/bob-inglis-tea-party-casualty) and wonder what reasonable Dems would do if our party got highjacked by extremists. During the 2008 campaign, McCain did not release his medical records. He "allowed" a certain number of reporters in to view "certain pages" of his records. Nobody had access to all of them. No cell phones or recording devices were allowed in the room. Time was limited. That's not releasing medical records.

It worked for McCain because once again, what could anybody do? Do not assume that Palin would handle the medical records issue any differently.

It's obvious that she wouldn't want the real job but it's also obvious that she thinks she deserves it and would easily be a puppet. Besides, who's to say that her backers wouldn't offer her an under-the-table payoff to be a puppet President? We can't just assume that her earnings would go down if she were actually elected.

This Facebook and Twitter crap is working for her. A very small, very vocal minority are dictating the conversation. Palin, Beck, Limbaugh, FauxNoise - they're in control. I take it very seriously.
Do not forget that McCain/Palin got 59,900,000 votes in 2008. It wasn't enough in 2008 but if turn-out is low, you know who's going to be voting.

As much as the half gov would want to "take down Obama" in 2012, using her own words she "doesn't have the cojones" Unless something very drastic happens, President Obama will be elected in 2012. (Crossing toes & praying every single night)

That being said, it is probable she will make a run for 2016 (provided she hasn't already become a footnote in history)
I agree with Matthews that history & polls showed Reagan as UNELECTABLE. Yet 20 years later he is the de-facto uber conservative president every republican aspires to be. Reagan was packaged & promoted by handlers, backers & corporations who wanted a presidential puppet. The US (me included) voted him into office based not on the facts, or his record, but on the fictional story we were fed. (Reagan avoided answering non-scripted questions, his handlers pulled him away from the press to keep gaffs off the record He was very well insulated from open media and even when it appeared to be a a non-scripted event - it was staged & made to look that way) "Tear Down this Wall" all scripted ... staged..... lighting..... props.... it was a "production"

It would take work, considerable backing, but it could be tried again with Palin. Which is why it is sooo very important to keep blogging and beat the facts of her administration into every voter in America. This woman and her backers will wrap her in a red - white & blue bow (for the patriots) - her life & record will be sanitized for main stream Americans - and Pastor Muthee will be exiled to Africa for the Christian Right.

God, it's the most frightening thought any progressive can have! The sheer lunacy of it happening has me shaking because it's apparent that most Americans don't have a clue about what is happening in our country, yet go out and vote without having 'facts'. The problem is, they don't really want to know what's going on. She is attractive physically so there would be enough men who would vote FOR her predicated on that statistic alone! As for the women, all they have to hear is that she is christian [yeah, right she hasn't attended any church for at least 2 years now - does anyone know differently?] and is pro-life.

I read some statistics recently that stated more women declared themselves to be 'pro-life' than in any previous years. So it is possible that she could actually win despite being dumber than a rock, completely unqualified and really doesn't want the job. Someone MUST bring her reign to an abrupt halt NOW because we can't allow her to get anywhere near the WH - not even near the primaries. She is UNABASHEDLY EVIL, UGLY and has spawned kids who are basically just like her [Track, Bristol and Willow]!

Gryphen, I am a Christian, but I also have a brain! I would sooner support a dead fish than vote for Sarah Palin. And my Christianity has nothing to do with it. Because our country has (or is suppose to have) separation of church and state, a person's religious preference should not matter at all. I vote for who I think will be the best leader, not on whether a candidate is a Christian or not.

For you conservative right-wing Christians out there, if you are supporting Palin because of her good Christian values, you'd better keep on looking! Palin has demonstrated through her actions and her words that she is NOT a Christian.

Curiouser, I agree that Sarah really wants to be president. She believes that God wants her to be president. And she holds a grudge against Obama for beating "her" (not McCain) - she is bound and determined to win against him in 2012. She isn't worried about giving interviews or doing those pesky Sunday morning shows, because she doesn't plan to do them. She will continue to talk exclusively through FOX and Facebook. It's worked for her so far, so why change it now!

If (God forbid!!) she became president, she wouldn't bother herself with actual work. She would delegate everything to her staff, and of course, Todd will be there running things behind the scenes.

Hey, Gryphen, is it true? Did Sarah make Levi and Bristol give up their dreams of reality TV stardom (not to mention $1.5 million dollars). There is a post on another website explaining that Sarah wouldn't let them have their show because Bristol is pregnant. What's happening?

Anon 11:17, you should read the NYT Magazine profile of Chris Matthews from 2008. It is SO bad, it actually had me cringing for him. Total second hand embarrassment.

Chris Matthews would happily have Sarah Palin on his show and let her spew and not ask her a single question. I believe that 100%.

He needs a more fulfilling private life.

Anon at 7:16 AM and Mocha at 9:23 AM--I agree. Going forward from today, there is no time for complacency.
Last week, I educated my Mother about the dark side of Sarah Palin. Totally amazed, my Mom thanked me for the information.
Am preparing information packets for most of my extended family. Sadly, there is one teeny family branch that worships Palin--I'll leave them to my spouse, who has a rapier wit.
We need to get information out, and we need to get people to the polls.

Yeah, for all that Reagan was "unelectable" and had to be repackaged to appeal to voters... he was also a multi-term governor of a huge state AND Nancy Reagan was the perfect foil.

Palin's "experience" doesn't match up and her family drama isn't exactly appealing to most people. i say a lot like her cause she's "just like them," but i doubt they see her as POTUS.

"The really amazing thing is that Chris Matthews and other political pundits don't seem to realize that she doesn't even WANT the job!"

Gryphen, youre probably right that she doesnt want to do the job or even to win the presidency. But the danger is that she cant afford - literally can't afford - to not appear to want the job. That means going thru the motions of campaigning. And her supporters and the 'fall in line' conservatives wont know or care that she's a fraud in red leather and high heels. She's arguably as bad as or worse than Dubya and look how that turned out. If President Obama - (Happy birthday, sir!) - cant get us out of Afghanistan and reduce the unemployment rate before 2012, the unthinkable could happen...

She's SO much worse. Yeah, we didn't think that was possible, but it's the truth. Not arguably. Fact.

  66. Never ever underestimate Sarah Palin.

She wants to run - believe it. Yes she will lose but she will run. She cannot help it - Palin is obsessed with Obama, she can't help but want to even the score.

Support progressive candidates in your area. Support ones outside of your area by donating any small amount you can. Don't be complacent - we can laugh AFTER Palin & the GOP get THUMPED - but until then, STAY VIGILANT.

Remember - BUSH Jr. x 2 terms!!! A colossal idiot was given 2 terms once already, it CAN happen again!

Gryphen, I think she wants to be president. She eagerly ran for vice president, remember? And as far as she was concerned, it was all about her; McCain was an old man who would die and then God would make her president. She was seriously depressed when she lost, then Murdock came along, picked her up, dusted her off, whispered into her ear and promised lots of $$$$$$ and another shot at the brass ring.

She has a HUGE ego. Everyone is talking about her winning the Republican nomination. Of course she'll run. She thinks she can beat that black man. She's pretty, she's white, she has God on her side, and she actually thinks she is bright. She is too stupid to realize she doesn't have what it takes to be president.

As for the campaign, she'll duck interviews and debates. When she does participate in a debate, she simply won't answer the questions, and will play the victim if anyone gets "nasty" with her. She won't release her medical records. She got away with it all before, she can get away with it again.

Being president won't be hard because when has she ever done her job? Other people will run the country for her. And anyone who thinks something this stupid can't win has forgotten Reagan and W.

  69. Where did Matthews get the 77% number?!

Matthews believes that all of the male politicians are going to treat Palin the way "O'Biden" did in the VP debate. If Palin runs for POTUS, the other Repubs will come out swinging. Biden could afford to be soft with Palin. Fellow Repubs that really want into office? No.

I am reading the book "Republican Gomorrah", which is scaring the crap out of me. The Christian right is powerful. More so than I ever could have imagined. The backroom dealings are amazing. Palin would have to play ball with those folks, and she would expect them to adore her. They do now, but the Christian right power-brokers have too much to lose in 2012 and the entire 4 years through 2016 to put their backing into Palin. And Palin doesn't play well with others.

Palin and Angle and Bachmann oh my!

    President Palin

Sharon Angle: Secretary of The One True Religion

Michelle Bachmann: Editor of the Constitution

Van Flein: Secretary of the Department of Law

    Lynn Vincent: Chief Speechwriter

Glenn Beck: Secretary of the Interior and Immigration

And (welcome back!) Dick Cheney: Secretary of WAR and Torture

And Bristol could be Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs...

And Todd could be Chief of The Staff, First Dude, Secretary of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms:
"Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms - that's just a good weekend in Wasilla! Yeeee-HAW!"
