Sarah Palin has moved on from attacking Muslims and has now shifted her focus to attacking feminists. Oh THAT'S a bad idea! Update!

From the terrible twit's twitter account:

Who hijacked term:"feminist"?A cackle of rads who want 2 crucify other women w/whom they disagree on a singular issue; it's ironic (& passé)

about 1 hour ago via Twitter for BlackBerry®

I assume that one of her handlers suddenly realized that Sarah might have screwed up her whole "Mama Grizzly" meme by attacking women, so they quickly released this next tweet to serve as damage control.

Proud to Support More Women Leaders on the 90th Anniversary of Women’s Suffrage http://is.gd/enDyj
about 1 hour ago via web

See?  Sarah is not anti-woman!  She is just anti-women who do not agree with her.

I will go out on a limb and suggest that Palin has her panties in a bunch over the fact that the ladies over at Emily's List have started to call her out on her anti-feminist feminism. As summed up by this imaginative little YouTube video.

You know I am not usually into furries, but I kind of enjoyed that video.

I am just a guy, so perhaps I am not the best person to speak for the feminist community.  But it sort of strikes me that the women who are working so hard to be judged on their abilities rather than their looks, and want to be paid the same wages as their male counterparts, may take offense at a person calling themselves a "feminist" who gained prominence by dressing like a slutty librarian and winking in a flirtatious manner at the male voters. You know nothing illustrates what is means to be a feminist like wearing Naughty Monkey Pumps and being so stupid that you have to write your talking points on your hand.

I am just saying.

Update: I missed this earlier but it appears that RAM has taken to Facebook to pimp Palin's paradoxical portrayal of feminism. In the post RAM leaves no doubt that the Emily's List video really got under her skin:

On this anniversary of women’s suffrage, let’s take a moment to be grateful for the diversity of the debate. Women don’t walk in lockstep with each other in politics, any more than men do. We should be proud of our ability to engage in a civil discussion and healthy debate. I know I am. Unfortunately, I’ve recently come under attack for speaking up for sisters who seek to serve in public office. The sad part is that the attack comes from other sisters who happen to be on the other side of an issue that has been of great importance to American women from the time of our feminist foremothers, Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton, down to today. I’m speaking of the issue of life. I feel compelled to offer some advice to our sisters who like to throw stones at those of us who respectfully disagree with them on this issue (and they sometimes refuse to even countenance the fact that some of us can call ourselves feminists and disagree with those who claim the mantle of “real feminists”). First, ladies, it’s hard to take a critic seriously when they lecture you wearing a bear suit. So, it’s difficult for me to drum up much outrage at this latest ad. But, really, lying about a sister while wearing an Ewok outfit is no way to honor our foremothers on the eve of the 90th anniversary of their victory. But, that aside, I’d love to know where you got those get-ups. Halloween is just around the corner, and Piper and Trig would look adorable as little grizzly bears.

Oh now she has done it!  I cannot believe that Palin would pick a fight with the very groups that she was hoping to seduce away from Hillary in the 2008 election.  Is there no bridge this idiot will not burn?

Damn, I am going to need more popcorn for this!

Update 2: I went back and reread Palin's tweets and RAM's Facebook post and I came to the conclusion that they both used too many words to express Sarah's point of view.  Here let me summarize.

Sarah Palin: "Fuck you bitches, I am TOO a feminist!"

See?  Succinct and to the point. Plus, you have to admit, it sounds more like something Sarah would actually say.  Just ask Bristol.

I wonder what 'singular' issue she is referring to? The Mama Grizzly ad hits on multiple ways Palin is a disastrous representative for women and children.

not to be too random but after watching some of Greta's footage, you can see that Sarah's wearing heeled boots - on a friggin boat. Yeah, I'd bet she has "little person's" syndrome or whatever it's called. isn't she the same height as Greta?

You're so right. She should not have done this. There are more women who value their rights than those who don't. There are more women who have fought for their rights than those who haven't.

Sarah Palin is a phony. She talks about freedoms and rights, but she tries to block everyone else's.

The majority of women want the right to choose what happens to their bodies, the right to get the same pay for the same work, and to valued for their character, intelligence and personality, not their boobs, fannies, or winks.

Sarah, dear old Sarah, wise up, cookie. You are out of time, out of luck, and out of your ever-loving mind.

With all due respect Gryphen, I have no problem with women who don't play down their looks and winks. Men do similar "manly things" to get ahead or get attention. Women and Men are obviously different, offering different qualities to accomplish the same job. While it does scare me to think about the world being controlled by ALL women (think about hot topics on the view and the bickering than has resulted), it scares me more to think of men continuing to control things by nature - and for similar reasons.

I'm waiting for the day when a woman and man can shed tears out of pure emotion and neither one would be ridiculed. ie Hillary C won't be mocked and called weak and Barack O won't be called a faker

Interesting post about Palin's apparent screw-up, yet again, in mistaking "cackle" for "gaggle".

You are not a "feminist" if you do not support a woman's right to choose. Period. End of story.

They can spin it anyway they want, a woman's right to control her own body and destiny is what true "feminists" stand for.

Anything else is a diluted version of those who would seek to control this issue maintain. It is done under the guise of religious mumbo jumbo of which Ms. Palin ascribes to.

Her role model and icon is non other than Phyllis Schafly. That alone says it all.

You cannot be a feminist if you do not support a woman's right to control her own reproductive rights and health. It is not possible. If you stand against this you are not a feminist. Period. This is one of THE core tenets of feminism. No compromise for those who want to wear the cloak of "feminism" but seek to deny women rights over their own bodies.

That old fashioned beehive, not focusing on the importance of education for women, trying g to regulate what a woman can do with her own body.
They are the passé ones-they live in the dark ages. They want girls who have been raped or are pregnant through incest to be legally forced to give birth. WTF happened to smaller government!!! They will force girls back to having back ally abortions with hanger. Just who is passe Sarah??

Sarah's nostalgic for the 1950's. Too bad she didn't live through them. Oh, the memories...that was a great time for white men: illegal unsafe abortions, no civil rights, marginalization of women in the work force, wives subservient to husbands who could beat or rape them with little repercussion, no girls in sports...

Nonetheless, Sarah continues to enjoy the righs that feminists have achieved since then. Sarah told Katie Couric that she even considers herself to be a feminist. Sarah also stated she "chose" to have Trig. (It's ok for Hypocrite Sarah to choose but she would absolutely deny everyone else's right to choose.)

Apparently, for Sarah, being a feminist simply means doing whatever the hell she wants, whenever the hell she wants.

Sarah wants her cake and eat it too. Her stance since the beginning was never about embracing feminism.

I looooove how everyone thinks it's possible to be inside someone's head. Whats in that koolaid anyway?
You have no proof Sarah speaks that way to family and less proof that Bristol garnered her demeanor from her mother. from age 5, I've said things my parents had never heard or uttered. My favorite phrase growing up was "You're so aborcive." and I had kind, quiet parents whom themselves had kind gracious friends.

Gryphen, you speak as if what you say is fact. We must remember this is an opinion blog. You speak to people to get their opinion and THEIR experiences with Gov Palin. You've only met her once. From an objective standpoint, I see no hatred or menace or illwill in her tweets or FB posts. I see a woman who has been handed this platform to reach the masses in order to take back this country from decades and centuries of corrupt men. Sarah is a kind and gracious woman, whose empathy for the common man shows tremendously through her tough Alaskan exterior. This is a woman who, instead of receiving the congratulatory hug after a race, raced an order of "Faster! Stronger! You're better than than!" That is evident in her self possession and demeanor. Her and Todd both obviously have instilled independence in their children, sometimes to their detriment, but we were all young and stupid once.

She may have hurt people in unknown ways. But she also has helped a tremendous amount of people to grow emotional and spiritually. John McCain's selection of this remarkable woman no doubt changed the way America would function as a Super power forever. We've become skeptical of anyone seeking power and influence. We now doubt our President's every move and rightly so.

I'm watching Sen Stevens memorial and I find myself crying at the kind words his colleagues have for him.

Why can't every person in the world just reach out, and instead of attacking another for differing opinions, take their hand and say, "Let's chat."

The whole point was to expand opportunities for women who wanted opportunities instead of or in addition to house keeping and motherhood.

What Feminists are against is women being treated unequally, being disrespected, being subjected to sexists restrictions practices and insults.

    Feminist are pro women.

I'm sorry, 3:11 PM Anonymous, but you cannot "chat: with willfully ignorant narcissists.

Your ideas about Sarah are certainly the minority. Perhaps you are RAM, expressing your latent lesbian lust for Sarah. I don't know.

Please pull your head out of whatever bunker you've been keeping it in, and watch, read, listen to Sarah Palin.

There is not a kind, calm, or compassionate thing about her. She is vindictive, cruel, unconcerned about her children, totally obsessed with celebrity and retaining her beauty pageant persona.

The tone of your comment tells me that you are capable of intelligent discourse, but your words convey a total lack of analytical ability, a total lack of observational skill, and a total lack of common sense.

What you see is what you get with Sarah, and what we see is a mentally ill woman who is gradually losing control of her sense of self.

Give us a break, 3:1l p.m., Todd and Sarah did not instill independence in their children. They abandoned them in many ways.

Independent children from good homes do not cut brake lines on buses, do not get known for being drunk and easy, do not trash other people's homes, and do not disrespect teachers in front of their parents while being filmed.

No, Todd and Sarah abdicated their roles as parents long ago and it shows, baby, it shows.

I have never been more livid as when I watched the VP debates and saw her winking. I thought it was disgusting and demeaning to all women who have fought to be taken seriously in the workplace. It will never cease to amaze me, how the people who spout the Faux News party line can begin their VERBATIM nonsense, with a reference to KOOLAID...inferring its the NORMAL people who are all marching in cadence with the crazy.

Its bothered me as well, to see how many WOMEN have been sucked into the Teabagger black hole. They are NOT appreciated by the men in the klan of the walking dead.

If you can get Rand Paul or any of them to open up on the subject of women, what they say will make your jaw drop...although it coincides well with the "lets go back to the 50's" theme--in that the subjugation of women is central to the core beliefs.

It is why I'm so surprised when I see a woman who sounds rational and comes off quite intelligent, veer off into STUPIDLAND, claiming to be FOR all the things you'd expect her to be AGAINST.

(BUT THEN! It dawns on me that the REAL push behind all the crazy we've been seeing lately, is to get those tax cheating cuts kept in place, for the 2% richest in the nation--and how this woman I'm hearing is ONE OF THEM!)

As if she could give half a shit about gay marriage or muslims swimming in a pool near the 9-11 site, or any of the other bait'n'switch malarkey that she and the rest of the ruling class is foisting upon the easily duped middle and lower class Americans--all in a big conspiracy to hold onto more of her MONEY.

Hey, 3:11 p.m., we all may have been young once, but not all of us were as stupid as the Palins.

    I wager you weren't either.

Did you get arrested for vandalizing private and public property? Did you get roaring drunk and impregnated by one of any number of guys? Did you cut weeks of school? Did you use profanity in public in front of your parents and get away with it, even make them smile because of it?

    I bet not.

We all feel sorry for the Palin children because they haven't had the attention they need, the guidance they require and the loving support they crave. It isn't a guess. It is all too obvious.

Please do not try to put a nice girl veneer on Sarah. Her adolescent mean-girl will simply burn right through it.

Yours is sadly not an objective view. It is a besotted, idealistic dream of what you wish Sarah really was. It can never be; she simply does not have it in her to rise above who and what she is.

Somebody told her about a group of hyenas being a cackle. That was not a mistake, but a calculated insult. Sarah (with help from the literate handlers in her cackle) is deliberately finding obscure words so that she can say that WE are the ignorant ones. She's been saving that one ever since somebody told her. Dying to use it. But it is really low class to call most of the women in this country hyenas. And rather ironic, given her screech and mean laugh. Narcissists never realize that they are constantly projecting. Yes, Sarah, you are a retard and a hyena.

If you think women should be equal partners with their husband, if you think women should get equal pay for equal work, if you think women should be as respected as men when they walk in to the accountant, insurance agent, doctor, etc, if you think day care is a society issue, not just a woman's issue, BUT you believe life begins at conception are to some degree or another against abortion, what should one call oneself to identify with these women's issues.

And who gets to define "feminist." I imagine historically it started with abortion issues, but who gets to decide it can't morph? Although I do recognize that sometimes things morph so much it's no longer morphing, it's transformation into something like (like conservatives and the Republican party - just ask Andrew Sullivan).

Surely telling off Sarah as you hand her that skinny mocha latte would be worth getting fired for. I thought there was going to be an effort made to show up at her filming locations and make fun of her. Look how annoyed she got with the banner incident. Push her some more. What Kathleen did was completely and totally awesome. Now repeat it. Alaska is just about the only place that she might be seen in person, not hiding in her tinted window SUV, skulking around the backs of hotels. She was at Elmendorf (sorry about spelling). She was in Homer. Think of the great story you can tell to your grandkids about how you got in Sarah's face and made her bleat and whine. As far as Gryphen goes you are insulting businesswomen everywhere who happen to wear jackets and pencil skirts when you refer to them as "slutty librarians". As far as high heel pumps, there are women out there who are not afraid of their femininity and like to wear high heels. If Sarah Palin by wearing suits and high heels looks like a slutty librarian, then what does Nancy Pelosi look like since she also wears jackets with pencil skirts and high heels. Feminism is the belief that women are people.

As such, we want people to know not every decision emanates from our ovaries or our bosom. They come from our brains. Most decisions are made without any consideration of our sex at all. Nor are they made relative to men.

We're people. It's really that simple.

  93. Unlike many of those involved in the woman's rights movement, Stanton addressed a number of issues pertaining to women beyond voting rights. Her concerns included women's parental and custody rights, property rights, employment and income rights, divorce laws, the economic health of the family, and birth control.[2] She was also an outspoken supporter of the 19th-century temperance movement.(Wikepedia)

Mrs. Stanton was married and the mother of five children. Obviously,in the 19th century, abortion was illegal as well as artificial birth control methods. Women who sought abortions in this time and were caught could be jailed. They were at the mercy of those performing the procedure. Many women were maimed, injured and, or died as a result. This humane woman tried to foster birth control in order to protect woman from the dangers of having an illegal abortion. This makes her pro women's lives, not pro life.
Susan B. Anthony was more involved with the Women's Suffrage Movement. (Sarah, this is about allowing woman the right to vote.) This was her primary concern, not the right to choose life.
Please read about these women before you make statements about their motives.
Since 1973, and Roe vs. Wade, (don't have to explain that one to you, it was the only Supreme Court Decision that you could recall.)it has been possible for women to be able to make a choice. You want your position of life to be accepted, well then, if you are truly a feminist, then you have to accept the feminist position, also. Sarah, feminists (which you are not one) are for life and for choice. It is a woman's decision.
PS: Your thin skin is showing again. You should "women up" and start a conversation with your "non-followers" instead of resorting to name calling. Perhaps, you could learn something. Life isn't black or white, its varying shades of gray. The women on Emily's list are just stating their opinion just like you do on facebook and twitter. Doesn't everyone have a right to voice their opinion?

I know that public figures often have someone that reads prepared statements on their behalf but WOW, every time a Facebook rant is published on behalf of Sarah Palin it's just so obvious that Sarah herself did not compose it.

We eat it up for the comedic value and the absolute outrage that it makes us feel, but how can those that actually follow her and look to her for some sort of wisdom or guidance actually buy into this load of crap? (that was a rhetorical question, by the way...)

Anonymous at 3:11. You simply don't get it. I am an Alaskan. I can tell you are not. Sarah Palin is a fake Alaskan. She enjoys the same life you do wherever you live. She has lived for most of her life within a short distance to a mall or a big city. She loves to play what we all Alaskans call "the Alaska card." She revels in it. But most Alaskans call it as it is. Sarah's defining moment was with Ivana Trump in the 1990s at Nordstrom's. She has always had a very lucrative set net site out in Bristol Bay (through Todd) where a few month's work yields around $250,000 on a good year. Todd worked a Northslope job where he enjoyed a great income ($125,000 annually) and a lot of time off. Sarah became a politician so she could play dress up. Yup, that's it: Dress up and playing adult. A real feminist would prepare her daughters for a real life by maximizing their potential. Sarah let it slide. It is all about her. She is no feminist. I am appalled she would think so.

To Anon @ 4:46p.m. "If you are against abortion, don't have one." Someone can believe that life begins at conception and believe abortion is murder and still be a feminist, as long as they don't seek to impose their beliefs upon everyone else. Abortion is a legal medical procedure. To be a feminist you must be willing to give women the choice to determine their own reproductive freedom. Self determination and the ability to control one's own body is a core tenet of feminism. There are many texts available that give the history & definition of modern feminism. Reproductive rights and the right to bodily integrity are core tenets of feminism.

In an 1862 letter Dickinson wrote to Anthony, "I want to see you very much indeed, to hold your hand in mine, to hear your voice, in a word, I want you." For her part Anthony--the woman whose detractors called "grim" and "unsexed"--responded with letters in which she addressed Dickinson as "My Dear Chicky Dicky Darlint" and invited her to share her bed, "big enough and good enough to take you in."

I guess Mrs PAYlin has never studied Susan B Anthony.

"As a practical matter she found it a great nuisance when promising suffragist women married and started having babies because their family responsibilities limited their ability to work for the cause."

I was with you all the way until the end. If Stanton and Anthony addressed a myriad of issues, but not abortion, why is it necessary for a feminist to believe in choice regarding abortion in order to have the label?

BTW, I do believe in choice. I think SP is narcistic, and does serious harm to her community (and at the moment her community seems to include at least the US).
I' not clear on the definition of "feminist" and who gets decide whether you can call yourself a "feminist."

    ReplyDelete
  104. Anonymous5:09 AM

You make a reasonable distinction about being anti-abortion vs. and seeking to enforce that on others. So as I understand it, one could call themselves a feminist, and be anti-abortion as long as they didn't seek to restrict access to abortion. I presume they could seek to influence others through talk that isn't talk to influence legislation.

I'm still not clear who gets to decide what feminism is.

It seems to me that fighting over a label (e.g. feminism) feeds in to the agenda of the SPs of the world and distracts from the issues.

Wow, angela, your panties are all in a wad aren't they? First of all, I wrote about the pencil skirt because of the "slutty librarian" comment of Gryphen. I find that comment to be extremely sexist. If you do not think so then what kind of feminist are you? Are you the kind that think that women should be raped because of the clothes they wear?

What Pro-Choice people do not understand is that a woman can be Pro-Life and a feminist. Just because we believe (whether for relegious reasons or from past experience) that abortion is murder because if there is a heart beat there is life, does not make us non-feminists.

I know a lot of people who have had abortions and I do not tar and feather them nor lecture to them. You see, that is really Pro-choice not ranting and raving when people do not believe in abortion, where is the "Choice" there? Or is "Choice" just something used as long as we follow your belief?

Whoopi Goldberg said it best when her daughter got pregnant and decided to keep the baby. Choice also means that you have the right to choose not to abort. I know a 21 year old girl that to date has had seven abortions because that is her preferred method of birth control. She would rather abort than use other methods of birth control. I guess you imagine that is just fine. I, for one, find it disgusting but yet I do not preach to her.

It is ironic that the progressive, liberal, left who pound their chest saying that they are so "tolerant" are the most intolerant.

The best part was the fact Sarah had no part in it and was not even seated with, or noted as, an outstanding Republican that was a friend of Senator Stevens.

You can be a feminist and believe in life, for yourself, not someone else. If Palin had her way, Roe vs Wade would be overturned and thus prevent women from having legal abortions. I believe women have the right to choose their options and not be condemned for whatever decision they make. Sarah Palin chooses to see only one option and that is life. In cases of rape or incest, this may be well a trauma for women who are victims of this horror. They have a right to choose. This is why she is not a feminist in my opinion.
The 19th century feminists were for women's rights regarding employment, property, suffrage etc. Abortion was not on their agenda. However, times change and now choice is part of the agenda.

She has done nothing but show CONSTANT DISRESPECT to anyone who dares possess a different opinion from her. And she sure as hell has shown nothing but HATEFUL DISRESPECT to President Obama! So where in the hell does she come off making that statement 'Respectively Disagree' - she obviously doesn't know the meaning since she has NEVER been respectful of anyone who has disagreed with her if we all just think back to the 2008 campaign and all the crap that has transpired since then and we KNOW BEYOND A DOUBT she has shown pure hate to counteract any statement against her so she can play the victim card. But 'RESPECTFULLY DISAGREE' - has NEVER happened with Scarah around! I'd laugh, but it's really not funny! She is against 'respectful discourse', so that doesn't work for her either.

She will play the 'victim' and then spew disparaging, denigrating remarks to whomever caused her to 'pout' and feel angry, thus knowing she must 'get even' with that person. It's always the same with her. She sure as hell doesn't speak for me or my daughter and granddaughters because we believe in birth control and abortion if necessary - no ifs, ands, or buts!

To Anonymous at 5:09: Obviously, anyone can call themselves a feminist if they choose to, but if you sincerely disagree with one of the most important core tenets of the feminist movement and philosophy, why would you want to? The women who believe they are feminists, except for this "singular issue" need to start their own movement and claim their own label. They can be neo-conservative feminists, or post-modern, anti-choice feminists, or any other label that more accurately describes what they believe in. When those who do not share the agenda of the movement co-opt the label they not only render the label meaningless, they negate the work of the women and men who have fought, marched, protested, gone to jail, lobbied, worked and prayed to secure the rights that women have today. It's dishonest and disrespectful, in my opinion. But what do I know, I'm just a cackling rad.
