True Story. A friend of mine just returned from a weekend in Pittsburgh where she apparently checked into the same Marriott hotel room where Sarah Palin had just checked out. Housekeeping had not yet cleaned the room and so aside from an unmade bed, an empty can of Coke and a towel strewn bathroom, my friend made a surprising discovery – a discarded pair of black Spanx in the garbage.
“Seriously…you found Sarah’s Spanx in the trash?” I asked my friend. “Did you take them? You could’ve auctioned them on Ebay! What size was she?”
My friend – who does not want to be outted on Spanxgate – has been kicking herself that she didn’t snag the slimming control top and auction it online. She realizes she could have given the money to the Obama campaign or better yet, to charities that support women who can’t afford Spanx. No doubt, Sarah’s undergarments cold have fetched some serious cash from everyone from an apolitical panty fetishist to a rabid Right Winger. And the media would have gone berserk.
You can imagine the tawdry headlines: “Sarah Palin Trashes Taxpayer Paid Spanx in Pittsburgh Hotel Room” or the inevitable “Sarah Gets Spanked in Pittsburgh!”
Aha! Well if we use the same method that the pro-Palin people did to discredit the Vanity Fair piece (you know pointing out one inaccuracy to invalidate the entire article) to prove its accuracy, then I guess the article linked above PROVES that Michael Gross was completely accurate in ALL of his reporting.
Of course it does no such thing, and it would be ridiculous to suggest that it did.
Personally I know it is accurate because it almost exactly reflects the same things that I have been hearing for the last two years. And regardless of what so called "liberals" like Shushanna Walshe (Who seems to spend as much time pimping her own book as trashing the Vanity Fair piece on Twitter) say about the accuracy of the reporting, I believe that Mr. Gross did exactly what the rest of the MSM should have been doing all along, and that is exposing the fact that virtually EVERY SINGLE THING ABOUT SARAH PALIN IS A LIE.
I want you to pay very close attention to how the people behind Sarah Palin managed to get media types loosely identified as liberals (who are worried about having THEIR careers damaged by an article that demonstrates that the depth of their research was only ankle deep), to come out and attack this Vanity Fair article. Because boys and girls that is EXACTLY the same tactic that will be used to discredit the books that are right now being written by authors Geoffrey Dunn and Joe McGinniss.
This type of discrediting maneuver will be the new template, and you will see it used time and time again. The new test of integrity and guts will be to see who stands with these brave journalists and authors and who throws them under the bus.

Why don't they research the things Gross did? Why don't they do the legwork? I think it's because it is so much easier to sit in a comfy corporate office or at home than to get out and see things for yourself, to ask difficult questions of difficult people, to do research by any means other than a simple mouse click.

As much as I dislike Palin - and that's a lot - I have to begrudgingly give on one point: people expect women in the public eye to look a certain way. If they don't, they really have to produce the goods (e.g., have solid intellectual gifts, strong comedic talent, or exceptional talent of some sort).

ReplyDeleteRESP: I think people expect certain looks of men too - how many leading men are short, nerdy (if that is a look). Research shows tall men earn more. But perhaps criteria for women are narrower. It's then unfair to less attractive women who want to achieve. In this case however, SP doesn't have the intellect, education, banter, or much of anything EXCEPT her looks so I don't see how she is being hurt. She's taking advantage of the unfair situation, not being hurt by it. She can give up the gig any time she wants.

ReplyDeleteThat being said, I don't know why the Vanity Fair writer decided to make it an issue. Of course she needs Spanx; she is a woman in her 40s who has had at least four children. When the skin is stretched like that four times, it just doesn't snap back to normal without surgical intervention.
Spanx also help with hiding pantylines, so even a thinner woman might consider wearing them. I really don't think anyone can say she has a bad figure.
I kind of hate how so many people get hung up on looks, like calling Bristol fat. That's the kind of thing that gives normal women a poor self image.
All that being said, who needs $3000 worth of Spanx? Doesn't she do laundry?

I thought the same thing...Jesus, if everyone is going to make a big deal about the "mistaken identity" of the DS baby (I'm convinced there are lookalike baby Trigs in every city) to discredit an article written by an investigative journalist who is painting a pretty accurate picture of the Palin clan...What in the world are they gong to do with the books from Dunn & McGinnis. There is great frustration growing among nonAlaskans that feel Palin is becoming a cottage industry. I think egregious interests are in play & the best interests of Alaskans & the lower 48 & the world are not always a priority. You probably won't print this... that's ok.
As sick as it seems, there is something seriously wrong here. It appears someone has a problem wearing the same undergarments more than once. Something of terrible influence must have happened years ago. By the entirety of her actions, there would appear to have been a teacher involved. There was a certain duration as she is using her apperence and loyalty of others to compensate for an inadequate intellect. She has never had to think beyond a week in advance.

Were they considering using him as a Trig stand-in?)

ReplyDeleteAs anybody who read the piece knows the friend who is referred to in the article was not "snooping" in the trash. She simply entered the Marriott hotel room that SHE had just checked into and found the discarded garment in what should have been an empty trash can.
Perhaps if she had actually kept the girdle and put it up on E-bay people could call her creepy or disgusting but that is not what she did.
And as for whether this is a story worth discussing, well if we heard that a toupee of man we all believed had a luxurious head of hair was found in the trash we would consider it fair game wouldn't we?

The spanx angle is important for two reasons:

2) It starts to sew seeds of doubt about babygate. Some people might just start thinking, Why exactly does a woman in such great physical shape and with abs so tight she doesn't show pregnancy until 6 or 7 months need supportive undergarments? Something doesn't pass the smell test.
That said, I look at this story and Gross's story and wonder, why aren't they quoting sources besides one woman who went on the record in VF?
I also don't take seriously that the former Gov is OCD based on this account. She may well be a lousy packer who accidentally left it on the floor when she departed. A staffer who was there to oversee the luggage may have found & discarded the item rather than run down the hall shouting, "Governor! You left your panties behind!"

It is amazing that they haven't figured out how much they harm Palin when they go on a rampage, leaving their written threats in a trail that the FBI can follow. They must have written an entire chapter in McGinniss's book with their threats to get people fired, to harm their children and grand children.
If I need to say it plainly, real leaders do not inspire that kind of hatred in people. A mustached dictator in the 1930's traded in that kind of poison to create his following. If that is the kind of legacy that Sarah's followers want to create for her, they are doing an excellent job. Instead of having a positive agenda and something constructive to say, they are like children hiding behind a fence, shouting insults at people they hate.

ReplyDeleteThere were some leaks about Palin's incompetence during the campaign(ex. Africa: country of continent?). But are we really surprised the campaign staff kept it secret from Walshe and the others that they were dealing with a psychotic nominee? The reporters had plenty of reason to be suspicious of a candidate that was kept away from them and they didn't do their job.
Those who are focusing on the mistaken identity of the child backstage are missing the point. Piper was the prop of the day and the focal point of the story. It really doesn't matter which kid was in the stroller.
It also seems important that Gross has hard evidence about the improper purchase of personal items and every reason to include that in the profile.
Didn't Chuckie mention how the kids are always losing their underwear? How does this relate to SP throwing out her underwear? Why are they all so bizarre!

You betcha, except I know of two other women who have exactly the same phobia, and they cannot wash their own undies, preferring to rack up a monthly bill at Victoria Secret or Bloomingdales and toss out the stuff once it's been worn. Either would be a good case for Dr.Freud, and there are some serious underlying sexual issues. Both are absolutely compulsive fanatics about their food or other items being just so or they freak out. Sarah's demands for two bottles of water and bendable straws sounded as if either of them could have said the same thing.
I thought about what it must be like to be on the road every day for two months, campaigning, getting on the plane, more speeches, trying to study (hah), get on the bus again. Even if there was an assistant along to do laundry, they are never in one place for it to dry. They're not in a hotel long enough for the fastest laundry service. And, since someone else was paying, toss the underwear and let them pay for some new stuff. (That, or Sarah had some kind of discharge, and she didn't want anyone to know about it. Sorry to be so graphic, but she did tell us all those details about buying a pregnancy kit and being away from home). Kids losing underwear, and Sarah's quaint habit of wearing and then tossing her underwear speaks to some serious issues.
But, let's look on the bright side. Britney and Lindsay, anxious for attention, didn't wear undies when they went clubbing. When women go without their panties, it is called Going Rogue. (Check the Urban Dictionary if you don't believe me).

ReplyDeleteTrig 11/23/09 does not look at all like Trig 12/4/09 or Trig 7/26/09. Also the EARS are totally different (12/4 v. 11/23). Trig 11/23's ears have an S shape with a very fleshy lobe and Trig 12/04's ears are perfectly round.

and dear, no one is jealous because she has guts. that is completely silly. i, personally, feel she is unfit for public office based on her RECORD, her WORDS, and her ACTIONS. i'm sure it takes a lot of guts to run for public office. it also takes a whole lotta crazy to run for an office for which you are unqualified.

you will convince no one here. we are not stupid people and we make up our own minds based on evidence provided.
if palin wants people to have a different opinion of her, then she needs to stop pandering to the lowest common denominator and the basest of emotions. we see exactly what she is doing and do not see how it will serve this country well EVER. all she does is give people a trumped up target at which to vent their frustrations, while at the same time picking their pockets clean (you might want to check yours). frustrations, i might add, borne of continually voting against their own interests.

6:50, there is nothing "telling" about palin and mccain being "friends," which is based on what? i din't see that they were great friends during the campaign and i don't see it now. is it that he won't come out and say that the decision to pick her was the beginning of his end, his greatest mistake? no way will he admit the error of having that cheesy fraud taint his campaign. he will never come out against her because he will never admit to being a FOOL.

ReplyDeleteyou conveniently forget that hillary clinton has the intelligence that palin does not have. she also has a fantastic track record. so yes, while hillary was very hated, she was also very respected, WITH GOOD REASON.
with palin as a comparison, people likely now understand the difference between a STATESWOMAN and an ignorant, shallow, unqualified fraud.
palin was a failure of a mayor and a failure of a governor. she quit every important opportunity to come her way since she left the mayors office. her record STINKS. i'm not surprised there is more criticism of palin. as there should be.

I tend to believe the McCain staffers as everything they say corroborates with what others say and with the hateful persona she shows to the world, even though palin thinks she is hiding her true self.
