Evangelical Christian and Presidential hopeful Mike Huckabee is not a fan of providing health insurance to people with pre-existing conditions.

From TPM:

"It sounds so good, and it's such a warm message to say we're not gonna deny anyone from a preexisting condition," Huckabee explained at the Value Voters Summit today. "Look, I think that sounds terrific, but I want to ask you something from a common sense perspective. Suppose we applied that principle [to] our property insurance. And you can call your insurance agent and say, "I'd like to buy some insurance for my house." He'd say, "Tell me about your house." "Well sir, it burned down yesterday, but I'd like to insure it today." And he'll say "I'm sorry, but we can't insure it after it's already burned." Well, no preexisting conditions."

Okay how does somebody with this kind of dismissive attitude toward those who are sick and suffering call himself a Christian?  Not only that but isn't he supposed to be a minister as well?

Can anybody imagine Jesus Christ saying such a thing?

It is as if these so called "Christians" have never even taken the time to page through the New Testament, much less absorb the message contained within.

  1. Uhhhh, that's just stupid. The insurance companies won't insure your house after it burns down because your house is gone. That's not like pre-existing health conditions at all.

    The stupid, it burns...

I agree totally, Gryphen. I can assure you that the Jesus that I try to follow is not the same one Huckabee claims to follow.

I've said it before I've said it again: Christianity without compassion and love is just another reason to judge others.

In other words, Shove it, Schmuckabee..

PS - Not only is Huck's logic bad, it isn't even "common sense."

Common sense tells you that a burned out house doesn't equate to a living being. Sheesh.

The worst is that he is PANDERING to those who grasp at ANY REASON to deny coverage (= medical care) to sick people.

I've officially lost all respect for the Huckster.

Beyond the dismissive attitude, it's just plain crazy, comparing apples to oranges. But, that's the logic in his little mind.

I, too, question the Christianity of so many of our "public" Christians these days. Brings to mind one of my favorite Gandhi quotes which fits so many of them: "I like your Christ, I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ."

Conservative's compassion for life ends at birth.

After that a human life is equivalent to a house or an old car.

It is the inconsistancies and hypocracies of these people that make me crazy. All life is sacred from the moment of conception, unless you're on death row. Then your life really doesn't matter. Also if you're a civilian who happens to get in between one of our soldiers in battle and a bullet. Sorry, collateral damage in the name of protecting our God given freedom. Or if you've lost your job that was outsorced, and your health insurance and your house and your savings and your dignity. Ask a friend for help. Trade a chicken for a medical exam.

We Must Have Balanced Budgets!!! Everything Must Be Paid For!!! Except for the costs of two wars that were never put in the budget. And the perscription drug program that was never paid for, let alone put in the budget. Or all the shameless pork.

They want the federal government to do the absolute minimum but scream Keep Your Hands Off My Social Security at rallies and town halls. Which is not only absurd but seems to indicate that they don't understand that social security is a federal government program.

Bless those Founding Fathers for the genius of their early documents. (Which include a separation of church and state.) And then try and cram their damn Bible verses down our throats and say they should dictate our national behaviors.

They are everywhere. They are ignorant. They are intolerant. They are zealots. They distain education. They feel entitled because God is on their side. They are dangerous. And many of them are armed and dangerous.

And Sarah Palin believes that God has chosen her to lead them.

If they truly followed the words of the Bible and not The Old Testament for Dummies they would know how wrong they are. But we're passed that. Religious fervor is a frightening force.

I'll bet Mike's insurance covered him when he was almost two hundred pounds overweight because---wait for it. . . . The state of Arkansas paid for his insurance and the problems he suffered therein.

    Was he whining then?

Gryphen, the reason they can say things like this and still call themselves Christian is because they aren't really Christians. They are the false prophets the Bible warns about over and over again.

As for Huckabee's analogy, I'd like to ask him how he'd feel if his insured home burned down and the insurance company welched on paying him? Because that is basically why people with pre-existing conditions have no insurance. They were dropped by their previous insurers for getting sick in the first place.

  10. I have been extremely disappointed that the self-professed leaders of Christ's Church have been turning such a blind eye to the obvious evil lies surrounding September 11, 2001. I had been publicly loosing my faith via an "Open Letter to Dr. James Dobson" because the Christian Leaders seemed to be ignoring the call of Psalm 94:16-20. God works in mysterious ways because look what he sent to my FaceBook Wall the other day! Thank you Marisela, and most importantly, Thank God for speaking through Strong Christians like Marisela who are so well spoken and entrenched in the Word of God!!!

Maybe God will convict you to forward this link to everyone of your contacts?

Huckabee had Type II diabetes and now says he's cured himself. I doubt that, but whatever. However, his diabetes is still a pre-existing condition. All of us have pre-existing conditions whenever we're about to sign up for a new health care plan: asthma, acne, eczema, kidney disease, even childbirth. Why do these people attend a "values" convention and then spout the most heinous, dispassionate, and despicable nonsense?

    ReplyDelete
  13. Anonymous3:33 PM

It's because Mike Huckabee has a pre-existing condition: morbid obesity. He didn't lose his weight by diet. He got a lap-band. Pre-existing condition. This is just a reflection of his own self-loathing, like Republicans who are very anti-gay getting caught being closeted gays.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Anonymous3:34 PM

Well, his analogy doesn't hold water, because if you took it at face value, the burned down house would equate to a dead person, not a sick person with a pre-existing condition. He doesn't have any common sense, nor any sense of decency. But it's a crappy analogy at any rate. Gotta love those conservative values.

How many Republicans today are not hiding behind some religion? That is what they do. They automatically have a cult following and they can work on manipulating them further once they are established as a person of God, their God, whatever they mean by it. They own Christ and Christian and can do or say what they want because of their belief.

September 19, 2010 Rove challenges Palin to campaign for O'Donnell in person
A leading Republican strategist is calling for Sarah Palin to prove her political prowess by showing up in person in Delaware to support Tea Party favorite Christine O'Donnell.
Karl Rove told Fox News' Chris Wallace Sunday that if Palin wants to run for president in 2012 then she needs to show her political skill now.
"I don't know if she is the front-runner," said Rove. "There are several geological ages to come and go before that race shapes up."
"Look, if Sarah Palin wants to demonstrate her power and influence, she ought to -- where we started was Delaware -- she ought to go to Delaware and campaign for her favorite Christine O'Donnell," he continued.
Palin tweeted on behalf of O'Donnell a few days before the primary followed by an endorsement on Sean Hannity's radio program.

WHO NEEDS A BALANCED BUDGET? We Must Have WAR FOREVER!!!
War matters to our economy. Look at the jobs it creates. Good Mama Grizzlies like Christine O'Donnell will get women out of the military and back to the kitchen, barefoot and pregant!

These celebrities should move to Alaska. I bet they are on prescription meds, also, too.

Huckster shows that being an a-hole is also a pre existing condition.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Anonymous3:42 PM

Remember he was a hundred lbs overweight, which I would assume would be a pre-existing condition. I am sure he took advantage of his government run healthcare when he was governor of Arkansas to treat his "condition". Just like Palin enjoys government run healthcare for her family because Toad is Native American. What a bunch of hypocrites.

Hmm, so who will be the arbiter of determining the severity of pre-existing conditions? Will those with treatable conditions such as diabetes be denied? What about acid reflux? Yeast infections? Hair loss? Pregnancy?

Gotta love these slippery slopes. Much like Alan Grayson said, the conservative health care plan is simply for the poor to die quickly.

That picture looks like the Huckster is porking up again.

Hypocritical bastard. Honestly, how can we keep those people from bree--oh wait, they're mostly over 40, aren't they?

Or maybe we should take away their Medicare and SS. After all, they don't want govt in their lives...

Doesn't everyone know that the Huckster found politics to be much more monetarily rewarding than being a preacher? He could have never been on TV otherwise, either.

Huckabee's analogy is ridiculous. Let's say you do have a flood or fire or windstorm damage. The insurance pays - they don't ask you if your carpet is frayed, if your fridge works, if the sink leaks and then say, you don't qualify because your house has pre existing damage. They just pay. Same with your car. You get into an accident, they pay. Even if some dents were previously caused by YOU, or if the transmission was shot anyway, they rebuild the car no questions asked.

A person with no chronic illness or past illness is an impossibility. It's like expecting a 10 year old car to not have any worn or broken parts.

If the Democrats have any sense at all, they'll take this video of Huckabee, and others like it, and put it all over the tv in ads destroying the republicans and teabaggers.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Anonymous4:45 PM

Once again, the definition of being a Republican is the day you wake up and say to yourself...."I got mine, now f*ck the rest." Anyone who doesn't come to that conclusion is a Democrat, Independent, Green Party member, or something else.

Huckabee will always have his pre-existing conditions covered either through taxpayers or using his personal wealth built on the backs of taxpayers, so he's got his. What does he care if we get any medical care?

    ReplyDelete
  25. emrysa4:57 PM

obviously huckabee has not taken his thought to its logical conclusion. people being denied insurance for pre-existing conditions is a big reason why so many are already uninsured.

I agree with Megan - "The stupid, it burns..."

    ReplyDelete
  26. Anonymous5:16 PM

His analogy is ridiculous! If a house is burned down, it's essentially dead. No one is asking for pre-existing conditions to be met for someone who is already dead! But that same house, could be nearly falling down, old and decrepit and will have insurance! What ignorance people with a microphone display.

He's a hypochristian, that is a good way to say it. Obesity is a pre-existing condition for the Huckster. He has to run for prez and win if he wants good medical insurance for his family and himself.

Bristol is not looking so good for a dancer and she is going to allure the audience with a strip dance. Who knows why or how her body got like that at such a young age? Do we really need to see anymore of it in costume or not? That upholstry chest was more than enough to last me a lifetime. Still she went on and wore that Greek looking white get up for another brief romance with Levi and big bucks from a mag.

Giving birth to one baby does that body shifting to someone with her genes and her motherhood example?

Sarah Palin looks like a victim of botched cosmetic procedures and she can't stop having it filmed for posterity. That may be why they do not want to name where Bristol was alleged to work. Sarah also has tics that drug addicts develop over time. She may be a victim of both bad cosmetic procedures and a drug habit of some type.

I was interested to hear what Mercede Johnston had to say about her mother's snitch, Junior Latocha. It troubles me that she did not name the other boy that was also mentioned in the news reports of Sherry's bust. Why do you think that is? There were two snitches, both should be named. I am not the only one that Mercede opened up more questions than she answered.

The longer Johnny Chandler is a mystery the more he looks suspect. What does Johnny Chandler do to support himself or has he been in school all this time? Why did he leave the state? Why can't someone write about his part with the babies? We know he is a lush of the first order, he has no drug contacts? He is well known in town, his family also. What is with the hush up? Makes them all look guilty of something. It may just be a drug business or about the baby stuff. It is curious the Chandlers are protected and so much cover up for them all.

It is sure a big deal in Alaska that Junior drives without a license. I get the feeling it is what they don't tell us that matters.

  29. If body = house
Then dead body = burned down house
And sick body = dilapidated house

Huckabee is no dummy. And my guess he's not in 100% perfect health, either.

A pre-existing condition is treatable, just as a dilapidated house is fixable.

Anyone still breathing has to have a few pre-existing conditions. The insurance companies and mouthpieces like Huckabee are not actually unwilling to insure people with pre-existing conitions, what they want is CHEAP, CHEAP, CHEAP conditions.

People with a hangnail are almost never rejected by insurance companies, in fact, they accepted with DELIGHT because it's PROFITABLE. Remember, insurance is not a charity and SOMEONE (in fact most people) will pay IN more than they get paid out. (Mathematics being what it is.)

Huckabee should have to admit that he is merely a flaming capitalist with Christian window-dressing. His backers worship the god, greed, and Huckabee is their willing servant.

O/T but more great showmanship and Bristol must talk to Huck about the weight. He did take it off, I don't think he went to Dr. Glassman. Bristol will need protection more than ever after her dance. Please be kind to her. I am confident that the media and all will encourage her and keep up this gig for as long as they can. It is not about whether she can dance or charm anyone. They will keep her no matter what because that is what was worked out. This is about her wonderful supportive mother and the Bristol that Sarah wants the world to see.

I saw a discussion on the TV about DWTS. One of the judges said that Kate of TV fame, Bristol's savior and adviser, could not dance but had no self awareness, she was clueless. In her haze, Kate thought that she was a good dancer. No one wanted to tell her she was out of her mind and to get some awareness of her beautiful new figures ability at dance. Kate's new bod is all about Kate working hard to get in shape and not due to ex-hub's, ex-girlfriend's plastic surgeon father. Believe that one? The bottom line from the DWTS judge was that Kate is the last person Bristol should listen to about DWTS. Bristol needs to hear the truth and Kate is the last one for that. It appears this is merely a scheme for ratings, publicity and money for all involved, no one cares that she is not a serious dance contender.

    Don't tell Bristol about this.

Tripp is well and she left him with a babysitter as she worked hard at supporting Mark Ballas for a public event. She is doing the look at how much fun I am routine, part of her promotional work. She is being the down home Bristol in a well ironed version of the old flannel grunge look from the 90s. It may be her fashion statement from Alaska or doing her part to recycle. The older lady handler/chaperon with her looked thrilled she left the bump-it look back home. Bristol will transform and dazzle everyone when she strips off the fake fur costume and she shows us some skin. Whose skin you ask? Tune in to DWTS to find out.

I 'd like to hear palin's comments on this.
Trig would/could be refused health care, if he didn't have his federal health care, because he has a pre existing condition.

Let's push to hear sarah agree or disagree with huckabee.
Let's hear how she does or does not support those parents of handicapped children most of who's children were born with pre existing conditions.

Let's hear her say it. Let's all demand her thoughts on this subject.

Why is it always the wealthy republicans that tell us we cannot have health care for all?
Is America not great enough that we cannot do for our citizens, what all the other industrialized nations do for theirs?

Huck, Huck, Huck.... I live in Arkansas, it is a poor state. It was a poor state during the Clinton years. It NEVER moves ahead. The Bible is the guide and having multiple children before you are twenty is the state hobby.

However, Huck raised taxes and he wanted to give illegal immigrant kids a free pass to college. If it was not for the Bible stick some would consider him a Dem.

Not one elected leader cares about the State of Arkansas. I'm not surprised of his stance on health care, since it seems like every other person I meet in this state is either on disability or receives state/federal paid health insurance.
