Levi Johnston continues to receive very bad advice.

Visit msnbc.com for breaking news, world news, and news about the economy

It is like watching a slow motion car accident.  O'Donnell just plays with Levi like a pinata and then feels so bad that he tries to provide some cover for him, but it is too late.

A non-reading Republican global warming denier, who doesn't understand science, obviously Levi is a Teabagger.

I believe I mentioned the interviews I did in Wasilla that showed universal revulsion at the idea of Levi running for mayor.  Nobody takes his campaign even remotely seriously. But even as a publicity stunt this is a complete, and total failure.

Levi gets a shot on cable simply because of his affiliation with Sarah and THIS is the best he can do?

What a waste.

Please: let him debate Bristol. They are both teabaggers.

Honestly, I thought Lawrence came off as a pompous ass...Levi seemed like he KNEW he was being ambushed, and maybe that means he's smartened up enough to start fighting back for himself.

My opinion of Lawrence O'Donnell dropped considerably after that interview with Levi. Epic fail to interview a kid who didn't graduate high school on this particular venue.

I realize O'Donnell's point was to show that Levi did as well or better than McCain's choice for VP in answering the questions, but it still came across as using Levi in a dishonorable fashion for such an experienced, intellectual host.

Like the other Palin related footage, I can't watch this.

Unlike all the other trainwreck personalities, I do feel bad for Levi. I hope he right's himself. Work toward a GED, a post-secondary degree or a skill.

We all blew his training with his dad. He didn't deserve that access, but it took away his opportunity to learn a trade.

Why isn't Sarah working her Servant's Heart to help shore up her grandson's father's quality of life?

Ugh Levi needs to vacate the spotlight, get his GED honestly and work on the slope. Celebrity is making him look like the dumbass he is. None of this is his idea. He's looking to 1up Bristol. A real father would fight to see his child. NO ONE is that above the law.

Very disappointed in Lawrence - this "young man" is not running for congress or senate but a small town mayor. Altho he did answer some questions that the Quitter didn't even bother with.

If he REALLY wants to be mayor - stay in Wasilla & read about the problems the community has - attend city council meetings - get the GED - visit with local business owners --- write some op-ed pieces for the paper about LOCAL issues.

I think Levi's a good-hearted dumb kid. He's 1000% more genuine than any Palin. Even Lawrence gave him kudos for being honest when he didn't know the answer to a question. The questions were a bit much, considering he's supposedly running for mayor of Wasilla, not a national office. But it wouldn't hurt Levi to be more informed. He needs to get out from under Tank the pimp.

Isn't time to retire all this interest in both Levi and Bristol who have nothing concrete or substantial to offer in any arena?

Bad enough we are forced by the media to listen to "Quitty Pants" mewling about nothing but to continue shepherding these two Know Nothings through the media spectrum is insane.

These are two unfortunate young people who rely on publicity to earn a living and both need to step away from the spotlight, continue their educations, and concentrate on the child they brought into this world.

What's next, Piper hosting her own show? Enough already!

Levi does not need to be spewing anti abstinence bullshit on the airwaves. It only proves he's still immature and hasn't grown into his role as father yet. I feel for his future daughter. Girls deserve better than a dad who doesn't fight for their honor. Man up DADS OF AMERICA. Get those speeches and rifles out and start intimidating your daughters' dates again.

I felt sorry for Levi--for about 2 seconds. LD seemed to enjoy squashing this himbo under his heel, but it is Levi's fault for thinking he was politician enough to go on a show like this. Even silly Sarah Palin knows better than to go on real news shows where they don't cut you any slack...

    ReplyDelete
  17. Anonymous7:51 AM

Why is it we can say Bristol is an adult and is responsible for her decisions and slam her, but we can't do the same with Levi?

I agree that McDonnell went for an easy rating hit with Levi, but honestly Levi is truly making bad decisions. He may be getting bad advice, the young man is seriously pushing his fifteen minutes of fame. He's not ready for Prime Time.

He is almost making Sarah look smart - - nah, just kidding, he's about an even match because he seems as self-absorbed.

Was he telling the truth when he said he was spending time with h is family? What family if not his mother and sister? What times does he really spend with Tripp? He sort of fell all over his comments about Tripp.

Does he realize that people will be watching the calendar to see if his GED is announced in a month or so?

Someone needs to tell him he is coming across as a superficial jerk. People are saying he "at least he's honest," BS - I think he is just too stupid to lie well so he can only blurt out whatever comes to him.

However, as dumb as he is, he did answer the questions Couric asked Sarah better. Sad to hear him say he only reads the Frontiersman, and that only occasionally. Gosh, if it weren't for the Alaskan blogs, the rest of the country would think Alaska is full of cretins based upon Sarah, Todd, Bristol and Levi.

Let's see - between Bristol, Sarah and Levi - Tripp may be doomed insofar as his chance in growing up to be an intelligent, talented man.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Anonymous7:51 AM

It just sounds like Levi is trying to out do Bristol, the immoral way. Way to make sure teens continue to have sex and babies Levi. You can't even man up and fight for the child you legally have right to see. Wasilla will never trust Levi. The USA will never trust Levi. There are those who are innately gifting for public service and those gifted in hard labor. Guess where Levi falls?

The best advice I could give him - FIND YOURSELF DUDE. GO away for like 6 mos solo and think about whats important to you, your life and your future. Is Tripp as big a part as you think? Do you truly feel at ease in the public eye (b/c America sees you as troubled and uncomfortable)? Do you really want to remain tied to the Palins when none of them care about you? Do you really want a family of your own away from the drama? Go away and go to "college"

Levi had no problem begging-off answering questions that were way over his head (all of them) but he was quick to deny global warming for no apparent reason!

  20. Anonymous8:02 AM

I thought O'Donnell was too easy on Levi. Sorry, folks, but if the young man wants to cash in on his notoriety, he needs to understand he has few saving graces. His youth and naive demeanor cannot carry him much further.

His answers to the softball questions proved him to be ignorant and intellectually incurious guy who just doesn't all that much into hard work or thinking.

The more time he spends in the public eye, the less people like him. Listening to a pimp for career advice is about his speed.

Sorry. I felt sorry for him in the beginning, but feel nothing but disgust for him now. He comes across as an empty-headed bozo out for an easy dollar, just like his baby mama and his son's famous grannie.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Why did Levi HAVE to say yes to being interviewed by O'Donnell?
He made a choice and it didn't make him look like a Mensa member.

    C'est la vie.

Levi's continued lack of savvy and eagerness to become a 'brand' does not mean anyone has to make him look good in an interview.

There was no ambush; there was just Levi hoping that O'Donnell would respect his choice to be a famewhore.

Maybe Levi needs a Rupert Murdoch type to build a bubble of bullshyt for his delusions?

    ReplyDelete
  22. Anonymous8:15 AM

One thing I will say for O'Donnell. He sincerely cares about the integrity of the political process.

I wondered last night if part of his interview style with Levi was due to his disgust as to how the process has devolved into a superficial popularity contest.

As it stands now, there are too many candidates who don't read, don't know history or current events, don't know and don't care about serious issues affecting people and the country. There are too many candidates at the local, state and national level who run for the ego boost or perceived easy-earnings of a position.

Levi has nothing upon which to build a campaign. He has no skills, social or intellectual with which to build a career in the public service. He can't even make good decisions for his own life, let alone make decisions that affect others.

Levi, Sarah, Rand, Sharron, Christine, and all the others are examples of schlock and slime that is pretending to be substance and demanding we vote for them.

As harsh as it seems, I am glad O'Donnell exposed Levi for the sham he is. Maybe Levi will be embarrassed enough to rethink his future and learn a trade, an honest way to earn a living that he can be proud of - and more importantly that his son can be proud of instead of heading down the grifter path.

I don't think this interview will deter him, his 'yes' people will tell him he did fine, and besides, a big part of the problem is that none of these hypocrites ever get embarrassed by anything. I never leave comments on blogs, but I admit I used to enjoy your blog and writing when you covered your take on national and even Alaskan events. Now I feel you've stooped to petty and unimportant stories about people who will not matter in a year. I also view your commentators as middle schoolers who appear as jealous and petty themselves.

Though I fervently disagree with Sarah on a number of issues, I would never stoop to personal attacks, as that's petty and uncalled for. All she has done is call out the President for his inconsistencies and lies. WHy is that deemed at being hateful and racist? Sarah has never shown herself as someone who believes whites are superior. That would be racism - the act of thinking one race is better than another.

Im not denying there are racist tea partiers. I also cannot deny there are racist democrats. The tea party is a widespread and growing movement consisting of mostly a generation that is deemed the best - they were taught they were the best as teenagers and are the most successful generation.
    But-
If i agree with Meghan McCain on one thing, it's inspiring the millenials like myself. The election of 08 started it, whether if Palin or Obama was the catalyst. Though facts prove Obama is losing the youth vote slowly, if he pulls a CLinton and adapts, he could pull through another election. But he has to lose the BS and actually work with Americans and the deficit

Lawrence O'Donnell didn't do what he did and then turn around and feel sorry for it. It was well planned out and Levi had it coming and then some. How could anybody in their right mind possibly feel sorry for the phony liar and cheat, Levi Johnstone, when he is totally responsible for his own actions. I'm only sorry that Lawrence didn't ask him some tough questions such as specifically: In what hospital did Sarah Palin have Trig? Considering that he was there, he would obviosly know. That's a question that he couldn't legitimately refuse to answer! Why would he want to?

What is it with Levi that causes some people to be sympathetic to him? Is it because some people are taken in by his good looks? Is it because he 'sort of' opposes Sarah Palin? Get with the program girls, before Palin is enabled and given the chance to completely destroy your country.

I'm not a fan of Levi, but I've got to disagree with most of you on how Levi did with O'Donnell. Levi was truthfull and honest with his answers and like o'Donnell stated, those were the same question Curic asked of Palin during her VP campaign and "she struggled". If we looked back at what we knew when we were Levi's age, I think many of us would be in the same boat as Levi. At that age we're too caught up in the opposite sex to read the newspapers or know much about what is happening in the world. If anything, O'Donnell was making fun of Palin, especially when he said if he would read New York times for 5 days he would be caught up with Palin. It's a positive message from Levi stating he is preparing for his GED exam and he has a job. It shows he might be maturing. Let's hope he is sincere in what he is stating about taking the GED exam and having a job, but seeing how he seemed sincere in his answers to O'Donnel questions, I believe him. That's more than I can say about Sarah.

I also believe Levi could benefit by getting another adviser, or at least getting a good professional second opinion.

And while Sarah and Bristol don't have a leg to stand on with their complaints about him cashing in, because they cash in even more, he has done his best to cash in on being the most famous lunkhead in Alaska. Too bad he's too dumb to actually achieve anything besides being famous for being stupid.

It's time people find out that good looks do NOT a statesman make.

Sarah opened that gate and it encourages anyone who is presentable in front of a camera to feel qualified to serve in government.

I think Lawrence O'Donnell showed us how Sarah and Christine and Sharron SHOULD have been handled instead of with the kid glove interviews.

  43. Anonymous10:42 AM

9:12 - you need to watch and listen to Sarah Palin's campaign speeches. You need to look for people of color in the crowds and in the lines for her book tour. You will find few, if any. There is a reason for that. Does Sarah attract and retain any people of color in her inner circle? No.

Did Sarah ever show any empathy for Native Alaskan issues? No. Wonder why? Perhaps because there was no money in it for her and perhaps it was because they represent "the other," people of color. Ask some people of color what they think of what Sarah has said and how she whips up hate.

Sarah Palin is unable to relate to and perhaps unwilling to embrace issues that matter to people of color. The few times she comes close to touching on policy issues, she embraces the side that would work against people of color.

She is known for race-baiting. Oh, she doesn't come out and say people of color are bad, no she uses code words and subtle slurs, but it doesn't take much imagination to understand why she attracts the base she does - white people, prejudiced, fearful old white people.

If you don't believe me or others here, take the time to read serious analysts who will back up the common impression of Sarah as a racist.

10:42, That is the most prejudicial comment I've ever read and one that will divide the country. A leader cannot address specific groups and their sterotyped problems, as all humans share varying degrees of the same problems. That is not to say black people or hispanic people have had equal opportunities because they haven't. Just because one doesn't see a huge variety at her speeches doesn't mean she doesn't attract minorities for fans. The same goes for Obama, except he seems to be losing from all races and ethnicities - due to the fact that people wrongfully think the Govt should help specific groups.

I disagree, I and most of my friends worked on our first campaign at age 18 and held jobs at law firms in high school. But we grew up in a Capitol City where there are an abundance of law firms in which to be a runner and jobs like that. But even working graveyard shift at a restaurant in college I still saw kids (coworkers) who cared about their futures and the world and who understood one or two things about it. Now about the middle east and other international affairs, I'm still not convinced our current leaders know much.

Also, Levi also just alienated everyone who sits down with their families to watch some nightly television program, including his family who has already said they watch DWTS. About the office and job, he probably means Tank/Rex office and maybe he "works" there to earn his money that's kept in Rex account. Who the fuck cares. Soon his 15 will be up, we'll have a better, non controversial president, and maybe peace will finally saturate the middle east. sigh

however, levi needs some good direction. someone needs to show that kid the value of an education. to completely dismiss the global warming thing, but then to go on and say "I don't know" for several other questions - well he should step back and see how that comes across. he should ask himself why is it that answer came so easily to him, when he claims that he doesn't know much else.

he also needs to be shown the big picture in terms of republicans - they are dying. why he wants to hitch up to that wagon, I have no idea. he just needs an older worldly person to help him to understand things. obviously no one is helping him now.

Kato Kaelin does work and he supports his child. I understand that he has his own place now. Not everyone can afford LA rent and I don't think it is the worst thing in the world when people live in a guest house of the affluent. It happens all the time where I live. Hard working and fine people do it. The economy is tough and it is not something that will change.

I do think Levi's appearance with O'Donnel was spoof. It may not have worked, neither did Cho's comedy dance. I don't think he is the brightest bulb but I'm not convinced he doesn't have acting potential. His politics are typical Wasilla and he is probably too far to the left up there. I know kids that are FB friends with the friends of Bristol, Sadie and Levi. They are for the most part rabid nuts about Sarah and love her politics and how she is good for Wasilla. A few of them hate her for reasons other than her political agenda. Levi doesn't need to listen to conservative radio because others do and that is how they sound up there. If people had a grasp of their friends and the atmosphere they would understand why Sadie and Levi will never be able to fully reveal much. They will never straight up answer pertinent questions. They are part of the small town and they are surrounded by family and friends that do love Sarah. Sarah was very wise to keep Sherry on house arrest in Wasilla. Sherry does need Sadie's help. Keeping Sadie tied to the area works best for Sarah. Sadie (and a broader education) was the one who could have made a difference. There is no guarantee she could have escaped her ties and loyalty to friends and family that help keep her in line.

On Tripp: "As far as I know He's with Bristol". Way to go, "Dad".

@9:12 AM says "... I also view your commentators as middle schoolers who appear as jealous and petty themselves. ..."

Little hint to you, Anonymous 9:12, don't introduce yourself by insulting the other party. It's just, well, kind of, like, sort of, er, middle school.

Oh,hell.I understand Levi has a huge child support payment to make evry month and I am pretty sure working at "Chili's" or or somewhere will cover it.If this what he has to do to support his child,so be it,even with negative publicity and remarks at least he is trying.

But I do wish that he would get better advice and information about politics.I would have bet Tank was a Democrat.Guess I was wrong.Mercedes too.

"I got the point that O'Donnell was mocking Sarah but it was irrational, foolish and came off as mean for him to ask a mayoral candidate the same questions that were asked a VP nominee."

I agree. Maybe questions like,"What is your vision for Wasilla's future?" or "As mayor, what is the first project you would like to work on?"

Then if he continued to say, "I don't know," he would have looked like a dumb-ass. But I don't know too many small-town mayoral candidates who could discuss world politics the way someone running for national office could (or in Sarah's case, should be able to.)

I don't understand why Levi doesn't "study up" BEFORE agreeing to appear on these shows. Doesn't anyone in Wasilla do their homework before taking the test?

Why are some of you jumping on O' Donnell?! This man is running for the Mayors office he should know something!! WTH He didn't even finish HS but he wants to be a Mayor??!!
Yea he should've went on fix news and answered some baby questions.

  66. I haven't read the comments yet, and I know you're pissed at Levi, Gryph. But cut him a break once in a GREAT while.

Yeah, the reality show and other decisions aren't the smartest. But the Couric questions O'Donnell asked him aren't the sort of information that a small town mayor should know. I have to agree with O'Donnell when he said he appreciated Levi's honesty when he said he didn't know certain things. At least he didn't try to (poorly) bullshit his way through an answer like Sarah Paypal did.

Do I agree that he needs to get other representation and get a better education before attempting this move? Sure. He has much to learn. But bagging on him for every word out of his mouth is beneath you. Besides, you know who his inept handlers/advisors are.

I've seen Mercedes where she supported a Republican candidate. If you grow up and are surrounded by Republicans that is pretty much all you know. I don't think there is much encouragement for kids to question and try to see another point of view. Wasilla is a beautiful place and they can overlook the dead lake, strip mall atmosphere and the pollution problems. They worship off road and sports vehicles and it is not popular to pay attention to the filth they contribute to the earth. Oil is central to their lives and they have to support that industry.

  70. I thought Levi did great on this interview, considering his inability to utter more than a one word answer to anything in his interviews a year ago. He seems much more comfortable and relaxed, though still very much driven by his innate shyness. Remember, this is the boy who was unwillingly pushed onto the national stage by the ruthless narcissist from AK. He has survived her mistreatment as a person and as a father. Levi is starting to mature and I believe he will continue to do so. I love that he is putting his hat in the ring for Sarah's old job, evn if never comes pass! It's a delicious Fyou to SP.

  71. I hope Levi doesn't read these insulting and unnecessary comments. Lawrence O'Donnell was asking Levi the same questions that Katie Couric asked Sarah Palin, and the great part of this delightful and probably more than a little tongue in cheek encounter was that Levi admitted quite readily that he had no knowledge of the subject or had formed no opinion, whereas Sarah mumbled some garbage or other to avoid admitting her complete ignorance. I thought it was a refreshing bit of honesty on his part. Goofy, but honest!

  72. It would not be hard for Levi to prepare a few positions that pertain to Wasilla. He could start with a goal to remove charging rape victims for their rape kits - that would help him score points with the voters.
He can also learn to say that, as a Mayor, he is concerned with local (not Internation) politics.
Lawrence O'Donnell compared Levi's answers to SP's answers from Couric interview - all in all, Levi did a better job.
At least he seems honest and nice - can't say the same about the mean girl scarah.

Levi is Academy Award material. No one had a clue that he was acting. The dude is good. Now if Bristol takes the judges advice and learns to act, she might be able to earn a legitimate dance score on her own merit.

    anonymous (one of you)

Palin just gave a black female supporter of hers a shout-out on Twitter the other day.

I just don't see how someone who is truly racist would endorse black candidates, etc...

Of all the things you can say about Palin, "racist" I don't think is accurate, not if you're being honest. But, some people feel the need to paint their opponents as absolute monsters.

Follow up of the Levi interview:

Thank you Lawrence O'D for givng me a renewed perspective and reality check Sarah Palin did so poorly in her foties and having already been a mayor (not city manager:) and governor, "energy expert" and foreign policy expert because you can see Russia from a piece of land in AK and Canada is a neighbor and Putin flies overhead.
Levi did better than Palin without experts intensely schooling her and shielding her from the press.

Levi, the ball is in your court to hit the books and come out strong.

I'm starting to get the overall impression of this kid as just an affable, hapless know-nothing. I get the feeling he wouldn't harm a fly. He's trying to cash in but he just can't make it work. I think O'Donnell was beginning to feel badly toward the end of the interview. Wish the kid didn't have to be permanently linked to the Palin clan so he could get a life.

Has it occured to anyone that this is performance art? Hard to believe if a mayor contender from Wasilla is involved in a hoax?

MSNBC's Lawrence O'Donnell: Levi Johnston Did 'Better Job' in Interview Than Sarah Palin
By Kyle Drennen (Bio | Archive)
    Thu, 09/30/2010 - 16:26 ET
Appearing on Thursday's 'Andrea Mitchell Reports' on MSNBC, 'The Last Word' host Lawrence O'Donnell touted his Tuesday interview with Levi Johnston: "I love that kid. He's honest, he's straightforward, he's not embarrassed." The questions O'Donnell put to Johnston were identical to the ones CBS Evening anchor Katie Couric asked Sarah Palin in a 2008 interview.

Introducing O'Donnell, host Andrea Mitchell played a video mash-up that placed his interview with Johnston alongside Couric's interview with Palin. O'Donnell remarked to Mitchell: "I re-scored his answers last night when I stacked them up against Sarah Palin's and I think he really actually did do a better job than Sarah Palin, question by question, answer by answer."

The video showed O'Donnell ask Johnston about the teaching of evolution in schools, Johnston provided this brilliant response: "You're kind of getting over my head on these things here. Yeah, I don't really know how to answer that question."
