In this video O'Donnell seems to believe that America was battling the Soviet Union in Afghanistan and failed to "finish the job." Oh the stupid, it burns!
Later O'Donnell is asked about a recent Supreme Court case she disagrees with and does her best Sarah Palin impression in response.
At least in Delaware it looks like the voters know that their teabagging candidate is unfit for the job since Coons is well ahead in the polls. I can only hope that the Alaska voters will make that same determination before November 2nd.
Senators vote on justice appointments. They need to know something about the court for God's sake!!!
ReplyDeleteYou know I was amazingly surprised that she did as well as she did in the debate. I watched the entire thing last night just to see if there was any substance in her candidacy. Besides some misstatements and improper terminology I thinks she could have actually been a contender to be Delawares senator had she actually campaigned like she did in the primary and not listened to Palins advice to talk only to FOX as her media outlet. She is either far smarter than the left has given her credit for or well rehearsed and a consummate actor. Despite her decent performance Coons had her beat handily and looked far more the professional. Thank goodness she doesn't have the time to make up for the gaffs she has made prior to last night.
ReplyDeleteperhaps her bearded marxist opponent was doing medical experimentation and just before the debate replaced her brain with that of a mouse. a satanic mouse.
ReplyDeleteoh, she's so fun, as long as she doesn't get her roomy toosh a senate seat.
She's a rube.
ReplyDeleteBut because of the poor economy, the Dems will lose the House. I'm not saying it's their fault but in bad economies, people aren't happy and look to blame others.
That's the paradox of this "self reliance" that the right calls for. They want the economy to turn around now but are angry because government isn't creating jobs.
That's rich.
Obama will probably be a one term president and good for him. The man deserves better in life than to have the distress in his life that he does.
Let the GOP come back in, spend on wars while they cut domestic services.
I hope there's a modern day Abe Lincoln out there because with a few more years of GOP rule, the Union is going to need to be saved again.
The world just laughs at the USA today. And they're right to do so.
Just keep screaming "We're #1" as healthcare disappears and obese kids play Call of Duty while chatting about Jersey Shore.
Talk about your ghost of Christmas future.
Have a good cry today, it may help.
I don't know where O'Donnell was in the 1980s that she doesn't know that it was the Soviet Union that invaded Afghanistan. This is fairly common knowledge to any American who was paying attention at the time. She should also know that the Soviets left Afghanistan in 1989 because they could never fully bring the country under their control, and that this was the source of Coons' statement that we were spending too much money in a country that has always had a tumultuous history.
ReplyDeleteThe stupid hurts!
I posted this elsewhere too. I thought Coons' articulate, detailed but concise answer to the Supreme Court question right after O'Donnell totally floundered made her look even worse. As if she hadn't made herself look bad enough without having an actually informed, intelligent candidate right there for comparison.
ReplyDeleteI didn't watch the debate bc 1) the far more uplifting Chilean miner rescue was coming to an amazingly successful conclusion, and 2) even Sarah wannaclones are horrid.
ReplyDeleteAnony I have to disagree with you about Obama being a one term president. Tell me who the Republicans have that can beat him. We all hope Palin will run because it will be s sure thing for Obama if she does
ReplyDeleteJust like her hero Palin, canot think of a critical Supreme Court judgment like say, oh, the recent debacle allowing corporate virtually limitless contributions?
ReplyDeleteI'll bet she cannot name a single newspaper she reads either...what a fucking sham.
What will CO'D and Sarah do for their next act,
ReplyDeletethrow a fundraiser for the widow of the unknown soldier?
Demand an investigation to find out who is buried in "Grant's Tomb"?
Seriously?! After SP made such a mess of that SCOTUS "gotcha" question, wouldn't it be prudent to have a few answers to that if it ever gets asked on the "test" again? And the Soviets and Afganistan?!!! I'm absolutely speechless! You know, US Senate is *supposed* to be a pretty important office, the statesmen of our government, if you will. The leaders...not subject to political whims (hence the longer term). Yeah, right. Well, in theory. These people running in AK and Delaware...its the US Senate folks! Can't you people come up with anyone better? Don't mean to leave out the very entertaining (and cray cray) Sharron Angle. It wouldn't be a (tea) party without her. Note to candidates: read the Constitution, the Declaration of Independence and the Federalist Papers. And know the difference.
ReplyDeleteI actually agree with Mark at 6:02. She did way better than I expected her to. I honestly think it's just that she is so calm and collected in her speaking - she comes off as very human and convincingly concerned. I do think she's smart - she's just a LOON lol.
ReplyDeleteNo way do we want her involved in our government!!!!
I have my doubts that COD's statement that we are fighting Russians in Afghanistan is due to stupidity. The sttement put out there can be used to perpetuate that obama does nothing bout our security, and does nothing about terrorists. In other words distrct people from fact and delete reality.
ReplyDeleteWhen COD started giggling telling Coons he "was just jealous" she was featured on SNL my stomach flip flopped. She turned me off big time considering the content of the skit.
I have only fact checked one thing she stated about the DE unemployment rate having doubled this past year. She lied. No surprise high marks for his repeated effort to focus on issues and not spar mired in the weirdness of COD or who can sling the most mud.
I note a common denominator of COD, Palin and Palin picks: they campaign vote for me and my beliefs, primarily religious, declarations of moral purity then COD takes a different path saying her "beliefs" have nothing to do with anything. It was a bizarre turn and twist.
COD is an opportunisst like Palin who quit a real opportunity to demonstrate her competency and personal growth as gov of AK choosing to get to the Whitehouse without doing the work it was evident she was in over her head and learn her enormous gaps of knoweledge. As reproted by people Plin gets peole to tell her just enough to slide by void of command of facts, posesing accurate information for decision making. Then if and when something turns to shit she blames other people to escape any responsibility.
To run for an office and not even comprehend or bother to know the responsiblities and duties of the office speaks volumes. To seek an office without lerning or knowing to be a super qualified candidate is irresponsible also.
My favorite part was where she said something to the effect of not thinking that the U.S. government should stand between a patient and their doctor, in regard to healthcare reform.
ReplyDeleteYet this dim bulb thinks it's perfectly ok to have the government intrude on a woman's reproductive choices -- which she makes with her doctor. I'll be she doesn't even get the irony.
I'm not at all surprised that she didn't fall on her face. My husband was watching, hoping for something hilarious to happen, and I told him he was wasting his time. She's a moron but for some reason she's confident (although I find her voice and manner of speaking irritating - she always sounds like she might start crying!).
ReplyDeleteJust like Sarah, Christine muddled through the debate because if SP taught morons running for office anything, it's that knowledge of the issues is optional. As long as you keep talking and know your talking points, everything else is (sadly) irrelevant.
Coons would have done himself a favor by taking a page from Joe Biden's book and keeping the disdain to a minimum. He's only human, though. I give Biden MAJOR props for containing himself during the VP debate!!!
When SP was running for VP, the only people who cared that she didn't know shit were the ones who weren't going to vote for her, anyway (i.e., sane people). That standard applies here, too. Christine will lose the Senate race but I doubt she'll go away.
I don't have the patience to watch that clip right now.
ReplyDeleteThe Afghanistan issue may be based on a bit of fact- but doubtful that Christine knows enough to get it right. She is probably goofing up a Republican talking point.
Many of the warlords and militias in Afghanistan were allies of the US in the 1980's since they were fighting the soviets there. The US supplied them, along with financiers of jihad from some middle eastern oil producing countries.
As was Saddam Hussein a BFF of the US in part for invading Iran in the 1980's. We supplied him billions in financial and military aid.
I do not think this was what she was getting at- that the Afghan failure started about the time Obama graduated high school.
Rene @ 8:47 - "When COD started giggling telling Coons he "was just jealous" she was featured on SNL my stomach flip flopped. She turned me off big time considering the content of the skit."
ReplyDeleteThat was just as stupid as when Sarah Palin counted being on the Charlie Rose show - after her resounding rejection of the American people to being our second in command - as being 'still here.' Still viable, still standing, not sitting down and shutting up.
The Situation is on every media outlet, as well as Snooki, who has just inked a book d'ill. Justin Beiber also came out with a memior, LOL, I'm sure the pre-teen's got more character and accomplishments than Sarah, Todd and Bristol put together.
At least she knows something of history outside of the US... we did back the Taliban in the 1980s while they were fighting the Soviet occupation. She may have it jumbled, but it is still more than Failin' Palin knew about the world beyond Alaska.
ReplyDeleteI too was surprised how confident and somewhat cocky O'Donnell was, and her ease at BSing her way through various subjects, even if her answeres were inaccurate, I could see how she could snow the uneducated.
ReplyDeleteThe entire focus to oppose her should be the fact that she has not held a political office and is in no way qualified to be a US Senator to make legislative decisions for our country! She is unemployed and has been unable to balance her personal or campaign budgets, has filed for bankruptcy and has been charged with a lawsuit for illegal use campaign funds from her last campaign!
This should not be an acting contest but a reality test about REAL QUALIFICATIONS to be a US Senator.
She just finally finished her college degree at 41 years old and lied about 2 of the 3 colleges she went to.
LOL
ReplyDeleteSarah Palin advisers prepped Christine O'Donnell for debate:
http://voices.washingtonpost.com/plum-line/2010/10/sarah_palin_advisers_prepped_c.html”
It used to be that if you showed complete and utter ignorance of important foreign policy issues (let alone regarding a country we're still fighting terrorists in), you would not only be laughed out the door by decent journalists and opposing politicians, but you'd be practically be pummeled. Now...what's happened? THIS is what passes for contenders, nowadays?
ReplyDeleteIt's enough to make you long for Dan Quayle.
I just don't understand it.
All these red-breasted women coming out of the woodwork, like nutty little birds. It's like a bad hollywood sequel, one copying the other. Why didn't Coons stop the debate right there and say...whoa there, I need to respond to this, and just smack her down. "Christine...we're not fighting the soviets. How can you have such a weak command of the foreign policy of the United States, in a place where are troops are now serving?" BAM!
COD is an idiot - at least politically speaking. However, she has spent the last 15 years sitting on TV shows (like Bill Maher), and has a decent TV presence. Also, even though FDU just sent her the diploma, she likely spent 4 or 5 contiguous years at the school, earned the degree as a traditional student, and ran into the money problems that delayed her diploma. This is where she and SP diverge. COD is actually sharp, is media-genic, and plays to a certain demographic. However, it is extremely telling that after 15 years, she hasn't really broken thru the DE political establishment. 2010 is not going to be the year either... Coons should win easily, unless a major influence dumps a bagillion dollars into the race and floods every TV channel from Baltimore to Philly with "I am U" ads between now and 11/2.
ReplyDeleteEven though she obviously exceeded expectations, that still does not serve as justification to vote her into the Senate. Since expectations were low, it was definitely a low bar set for her. If any Americans are silly enough to vote people like her into office, they deserve all the misery that will ensue, not to mention the derision of the rest of the world. I am so sick of those who bleat about our being #1, while they fail to see the importance of spending that would make us #1 in terms of quality of life issues. If they have their way, our collective complacency will lead to our decline as a country,
