Glenn Beck's rantings are inciting violence among the disenfranchised.

From the Washington Post:

"I do enjoy Glenn Beck," Williams also says, "and the reason why I enjoy that is because... no other channel will speak about the same things that he's talking about, and if you go and investigate those things you'll find out that they're true."

Unfortunately for Beck, this satisfied viewer currently resides at the Santa Rita Jail near Oakland and stands accused of a freeway shootout with police. Williams pleaded not guilty to four counts of attempted murder of a police officer. But according to court documents, he said he had been on a mission to kill people at the liberal Tides Foundation, which happens to be a favorite Beck target.

"Beck is going to deny everything about violent approach, deny everything about conspiracies," Williams told the freelance journalist John Hamilton, who did the interview to be published by Media Matters. "But he'll give you every reason to believe it. He's protecting himself, and you can't blame him for that. So, but I understand what he's doing."

"So now they've got Beck labeled as this guy that is trying to incite violence, and what I say is that if the truth incites violence, it means that we've been living too long in the lies," Williams told Hamilton.

"You know, when you become unemployed, desperate, you can no longer pay your bills... what do you think is gonna happen? You know, for crying out loud. It's gonna get worse, and more and more people are gonna get desperate."

It does not exactly take a genius to realize that with Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh, and Sarah Palin constantly screaming about "Obamacare" and Socialism,  and telling their audiences that we are all "losing our honor" and that we need to "take back our country," that there are mentally unbalanced people in the country who will take them literally and end up hurting people as they try to impress their Fox News heroes.

It is the height of irresponsibility for this kind of  hate speech to be fomented by these self serving "celebrities" in order to make a buck at the expense of these unsophisticated and barely educated morons.

In my opinion Glenn Beck should have been identified as a co-defendant in Mr. Williams trial. Perhaps it would change blubber boys attitude if a 300 hundred pound inmate REALLY gave him something to cry about.

Please click the link and read the entire Washington Post article as it provides much more detail than what I posted here.

gryph, thanks for the link - great article.
i hate to be on the spelling police force, but you probably would want to know that "inciting" is spelled wrong in the title.
thank god that fool didn't kill or anyone.

Well sure - BOR wasn't held responsible when Dr. Tiller was killed. How these people sleep at night, I have no idea - disgusting.

Williams is a parolee and meth addict. Just Glenda's type.

Hope both eventually get life without parole.

Was it socialism when Bush passed an unfunded drug bill?

Was it socialism when Bush bailed out the banks.

Was it socialism when Bush enacted the Economic Stimulus Act of 2008?

The Tea Baggers seemed happy enough to accept one of their own taking steps to move the economy forward. Why do they now disparage Obama's same attempts? (rhetorical question)

The 800lb gorilla is the basis of the Tea Baggers and Beck & Co. fan the fires daily.

Your most effective course of action is to not spend your hard earned dollars at the advertisers of these purveyors of hate.

If Beck, SP, and Rush Limbaugh were held responsible for their incendiary words, they would spin that as the evil government taking away their rights. But it seems like GWBush's own Patriot Act gives enough leeway that they could be accused of making terrorist threats. Why aren't they more concerned with repealing the Patriot Act if they're so concerned about govt encroachment on their civil liberties?!

The Nazis did it to perfection. So why wouldn't the darkest elements of power in our country use the same tactics?

"...no other channel will speak about the same things that he's talking about, and if you go and investigate those things you'll find out that they're true."

None of FoxPac's viewers ever stop long enough to consider the fact that no other channel carries certain information because it's not true/newsworthy.

None of their viewers ever wander outside the rw echo chamber so it's impossible for them to debunk the rw information. If they only visit Blaze, Drudge, RedState, Big Government, The Moonie Times, etc., they'll never know that the information found on FoxPac is skewed to fit a rw POV and doesn't reflect reality. These rw media organizations/sites act in concert, so whatever Mr. Williams heard on FoxPac, he'll have it confirmed on other rw sites.

Most other people may lean one way or another but do tend to read information on other sites. I get the idea that people like Mr. Williams never go to whitehouse.gov or watch CSPAN.

Exactly the way Bill O'Reilly should be accountable for Dr. Tiller's death and the Holocaust Museum shooting.

When Reagan's policies shuttered hundreds if not thousands of mental institutions - making mentally disturbed and often violently criminal individuals homeless on our street corners, I don't remember a Left-wing agenda to get them to do attack Republicans or conservative think tanks. Lord knows it wouldn't be something like a social service organization - they leave all that servant's heart bullshit to the Christian charities.

He shot at Police? That's okay, Sarah Palin thinks police should just stick to helping old ladies bring their groceries from their car to their kitchen table.

Nevermind that it's full of catfood cause she can't afford real food after donating her social security checks to Franklin Graham and Sarah Palin's legal defense fund or PAC.

"if the truth incites violence, it means that we've been living too long in the lies"

In a democracy, truth should never incite violence, but it should incite vibrant discussion which leads to solutions.

Non-violent discussion of problems is one of the bedrocks of a democracy.

Maybe in Somalia citizens would resort to violence to resolve problems, but not in a democracy.

If a citizen resorts to violence in a democracy in reaction to the release of any information, he/she doesn't understand how democracy works and should be held accountable for his/her actions.

I don't blame Beck. He's just a hack entertainer, not a criminal. The fault lies with a "news" media whose only focus is ratings, ratings at any cost. Cable news is an absolute joke and embarrassment. It's not just FOX--don't forget it was CNN who originally gave Beck a TV platform.

Oh, and then there's the virtual radio monopoly held by the ideologically motivated Clear Channel company. If not for Clear Channel Beck would be working at a car wash somewhere.

And lets not forget an education system that apparently fails to teach basic logic and critical thinking. Beck's ratings aren't propped up entirely by mental patients. Lots of mainstream Americans watch and believe that drivel. It's just f***ing scary.

If this were almost any other country, Beck, Palin, Limbaugh, Hannity, Bachmann, and others would be tried and found guilty of sedition.

But an even crueler irony is that they speak out daily against the kind of policies that would alleviate the sufferings of people like Williams. If the Party of No ever regains dominance, people like him will really have something to cry about.

I like the fact that we have free speech in this country, but there is a point at which people need to be held responsible for the impact of their words. Just like the church from Kansas, whose members target the funeral services of fallen soldiers with homophobic insults, I really believe a line needs to be drawn.
I can only wonder what has to happen before all of us become sufficiently outraged to say enough is enough. One step in that direction is to vote for a filibuster-proof senate and a filibuster-proof house to thwart the politicians who buy into the right wing insanity.

The fact that Palin aligned herself with Beck in recent rallies links her image with him as the extreme end of the nubaggers, and most sane people dismiss Beck as a loser. When is Murdock going to take responsibility for Beck and get him off of Fox? Even though Fox is a total joke, Beck is diminishing any credibility they might try to have as a "news" channel.

  18. Eunice 6:57 I disagree with you. Beck is accountable for what he does equally to those who allow what he does. Beck like any other person has free choice as does Palin. I don't give Beck a pass as an "entertainer". I firmly beleive it takes a sick and twisted personality to feed lies and crazy stuff scaring people or intending to profit putting lies out there and not care if people are shaking in fear frightened for their lives in a grip of fear.

I am a nurse and work at a hosptal so I interact with a steady stream of patients, their visitors and family members. I hear some crazy stuff, the look of fear to terror in people's eyes who believe the lies and it bothers me a great deal how Beck, Palin and the like spout off about terrorists while getting a pass terrorizing citizens lying about their version of Obamacare. Each week I get a dose of what Beck, Palin and others encite in people witnessing their fear, anger and outbursts of rage. Frankly I am weary of being lashed out at and business is way way off and the shit they lie about is also damaging the economy. I can't spend money I am not earning nor my coworkers if people fear death panels etc. and are lashing out and hateful of health care providers conned of crazy lies. Often at work we are used as whipping boys for sick crap Beck and Palin tell people.
Bottom line the more money they make is much cheated of regular REAL Americans being laid off up to 24 hours a week.

It is about as sick as it gets. Take Charles Manson..he's locked away so why isn't Glen Beck for convincing people of things until they act out in violence? Or Palin strung up in a town square playing people she is pro life and..those people/Obama are all lining up death panels to murder infants, small children and the sick? Not all dangerous persons look scary.

That is my boots on the groud facts for people to be aware of.
People increasingly go off in ballistic rages believing lies are truth.

This all reminds me of that scene in the movie 'Christmas Vacation' where Chevy Chase has not received the Xmas bonus he expected and goes on a rant against his boss, saying things like "I'd like to go over to his big mansion and drag him out of bed and tie him up and bring him over here and give him a piece of my mind".

Well, Chevy Chase would have never acted on those words spoken in a moment of passion as he was a somewhat rational individual.

However his Cousin Eddie, being not so smart and rational, and always eager to please, gleefully acts upon these threats and heads over to the boss's mansion, ties him up and presents him to Chevy Chase. Cousin Eddie is absolutely beaming with pride at "what he done". Of course, Chevy and the rest of the family are apologetic and horrified.

Many of the Teabaggers are '"Cousin Eddies" and would be all to happy to act out the crazy scenarios spewed by their leaders; the leaders that are crazy and hateful enough to spew this crap, but not quite unhinged enough to act upon it.

  22. Speaking as someone who at one time was "unemployed, desperate, couldn't pay [my] bills," here's what I DIDN'T do: Engage in a shoot-out with the cops.

Mr. Williams would have done better to pawn or sell the gun... and turn off Fox!
