In the video below McAdams pledges to protect Social Security for Alaska's seniors. Joe Miller has threatened to work to do away with the program altogether for future generations.
Essentially McAdams is reminding the elderly and middle aged white folks that make up the majority of the Teabaggers that HE is actually working to protect their benefits while Miller is simply using their fear of change to milk them for their votes.
However McAdams did not forget that he has two opponents battling him for the Senate seat.
The McAdams campaign has also started a website called "Lisa's votes" which reminds Alaska voters how often Lisa has voted against THEIR best interests in favor of kissing up to her corporate masters.
Just a few examples of Murkowski’s no votes include:
$10 million for health clinics, hospitals and social service facilities in rural Alaska through the Denali Commission in the Fiscal Year 2011 Labor – HHS Appropriations bill (Appropriations Committee vote on July 29, 2010).
$1 million for the Port of Anchorage in the Fiscal Year 2011 Transportation-HUD Appropriations bill ( Appropriations Committee Vote on July 22, 2010).
$500,000 for Covenant House in the Fiscal Year 2011 Transportation-HUD Appropriations bill ( Appropriations Committee Vote on July 22, 2010).
$3 million for river bank stabilization in Bethel in the Fiscal Year 2011 Energy and Water Appropriations bill (Appropriations Committee Vote on July 22, 2010).
$500,000 for the Alaska Medicare Clinic in the Fiscal Year 2011 Labor-HHS Appropriation bill (Appropriations Committee Vote on July 29, 2010).
And $24 million and $36 million respectively for upgrades at Eielson and Elmendorf Air Force Bases in the Fiscal Year 2011 Military Construction and Veterans Affairs Appropriations Committee (Appropriations Committee vote on July 15, 2010).
Miller is a right wing nut-ball and Murkowski is an unabashed corporate whore, so all McAdams has to do to be the more attractive choice is to keep letting the voters know that he is not owned by a giant corporation and that he does not want to take the country back to the mid-seventeen hundreds. Sounds simply doesn't it?
Yeah I know that he is fighting an uphill battle but when have progressives in Alaska NOT been the underdog?

Why do these "commonsense conservatives" have such a problem with common sense? I had no problem with the FICA cap being raised. Sure, I used to enjoy that extra couple hundred bucks in my last pay check of the year, but I never depended on it. The increase in withholdings didn't change my lifestyle. Some multi-millionaire and I are both contributing up to $8170.20 per year. I realize we don't get any more out of SS than we put in. But there are a hell of a lot more people who will need that check when they're too old to work than there are sitting on a pile of dough they can live off without SS.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately the multi-millionaires can say, "If I have to pay the same percentage to FICA as the little guy, I can't afford to pay him anymore.", even though it's not true. It's extortion.
('scuse me while I snark) Would these tea baggers put the extra 7.65% towards their retirement? Or buy more bullets and bibles?
Great post! Love what McAdams is doing.
ReplyDeleteNice to see stuff showing the things that people need to remember about Lisa. Compared to Joe, she may look moderate, but she is not serving the average Alaska or non-Alaskan by her corporate-oriented voting record. Her votes would/will ruin the environment that Alaskans cherish.
Good for McAdams in getting this information out there.
ReplyDeleteAlso, how can Murkowski halt 'freedome of speech' w/the Tea Party advertisements against her? Her legal group sent letters out to the media statewide telling them not to air them or there would be legal action. Does she sound like Sarah Palin to you? She does me!
Don't forget that the majority of the $$$ to support Lisa is also coming from 'outside' Alaska.
OT - Gryphen, it would be an interesting article if you have any information about whether or not Track is still in the Army. He seems to be at home an awful lot. I'm wondering if he was dishonorably discharged or sectioned 8 out. Something seems really amiss in his enlistment.
ReplyDeleteWill Scott address the national debt?
ReplyDeleteI've chipped into McAdams' campaign. I was pleasantly surprised to receive a postcard from the campaign thanking me for my contribution. Nice change of pace; usually my contributions are followed with a request for more money.
ReplyDeleteAnd now Joe has his father doing radio ads saying his son would never take away HIS Social Security.
ReplyDeleteIt's everyone else who has to worry.
Yes, wakeUPAmerica, what IS Track's story.
ReplyDeleteMany other soldiers have made more than one trip overseas.
This Vet would like to know.
So, everyone from about 40 years on up, should not even be THINKING about voting for anyone but Scott.
ReplyDeleteHowever, as Rachel Maddow pointed out, another really hot button issue that should be pounded by the Democrat, is about MINIMUM WAGE...which Republicans hate, but have wisely been hushed about...until lately, when they figure they can bring up ANY batshit crazy idea, and the public will just eat it up.
NO ONE wants to even consider working for two bucks an hour anymore!
I hear it all the time. Folks want to cash out their holdings and move somewhere south. They have no interest in investing in the future as they don't see themselves or their family's in Alaska. How much would you bet? Joe Miller will retire in AK?
ReplyDeleteScott McAdams real Alaskan for Alaskans.
I am disappointed that you label Lisa an “unabashed corporate whore.”
ReplyDeleteProgressives and their spokespersons cannot afford to use these labels. Please correct your posting as it serves only as a poor reflection on your sensibilities.
Whether progressive like it or not, we will be called to defend you (as a spokesperson for progressives) and your choice of descriptors of Ms Murkowski. Recently, many progressive were outraged when members of the right labeled Ms Murkowski as a “whore”. You are not defendable when you use the same words to describe her. The typical use of that word is gender based and I feel it becomes more serious coming from you, a male. It is not good from any perspective.
I urge you to correct your error, apologize to those offended and then stand up and do better in the future. It is the correct thing to do.
Yes, thank you 'wakeupamerica' and 'duncan'. I too would like to know Track's story. What are the palin's pulling with this one ?
ReplyDeleteAnother cover-up like the Willow house-trashing, or any of the other "gates" ?
Does sarah still display a blue star flag in her window ?
Seems more like Track was off serving a jail sentence than serving in the military.
Or is DADT (Don't Ask; Don't Tell) involved ?
The way things go in Wasilla, he should have fathered 2 or 3 kids by now, shouldn't he ? But we never hear about anything like that with Track....hmmmm ??
I hope for the sake of all the Alaskan "underdogs", that McAdams wins. To ignore the desperate needs and care of the most vulnerable in society as well as ignore the basics for and of the greater good is unconscionable! That is harsh in its own merit.....but, to deliberately deny has no place in civil society or ANY legislature!
