Joe Miller countersues for legal cost of fighting to keep the truth about his past unethical behaviors from being revealed. And just what are his ties to the Alaska Citizens Militia anyway?

From the Alaska Dispatch:

Republican U.S. Senate candidate Joe Miller is not happy about having to deal what he's termed a "petty" issue: His use of his colleagues' computers to try to unseat a GOP leader he'd had enough of.

The media lawsuits were filed against the Fairbanks North Star Borough, which is Miller's former employer and the keeper of records related to his job there as a part-time attorney.

Now, Miller wants the borough to pay for any legal fees he'll rack up, according to papers filed in court Wednesday. And, he wants the borough and former mayor Jim Whitaker punished. Miller has suffered damages from "illegal and unconstitutional disclosures" of contents in his personnel file, according to a filing by attorney John Tiemessen, and will wait to show how severely he has been harmed until the cases go to trial.

Miller is arguing that borough law and the Alaska Constitution protect his right to privacy, and that leaks about his job history are in violation of those protections.

So essentially Joe Miller is suing for the legal costs that he will accrue as he fights to keep any facts from being revealed that may further damage his reputation, completely ignoring the fact that if he had simply cooperated with the press in the first place there would have been NO legal cost for him to worry about.

Of course Miller was afraid to do that because he is well aware that the information in his employment file may blow his campaign out of the water.

(For those confused by the fact that Miller seems to be represented by a different attorney than Sarah Palin's pet poodle Thomas Van Flein, don't be.  He is a member of Van Flein's law firm.)

I have to imagine that Miller is having significant difficulty focusing on his campaign right now.  Especially since the ties between the militia nutjobs in Alaska and his rent-a-Gestapo are coming to light.

From TPM:

William Fulton, the head of DropZone Security, denies that he's a member of the Alaska Citizens Militia -- though he inarguably has some ties to the militia, and has even been referred to as the "supply Sergeant" by the head of the group.

The ACM was started by Norm Olsen, who the Southern Poverty Law Center reports also started the Michigan Militia, though he was kicked out after touting this theory about the Oklahoma City bombing: "The Japanese government had bombed the federal building there as a return favor for the sarin gas subway attack that he said the U.S. government carried out in Tokyo."

(You know getting kicked out of one of these militias for being to wingnutty is almost like being kicked off of a pro-basketball team for being too tall. This Norm Olsen guy is obviously a real headcase!)

And though Fulton denies being a member of the ACM, Olsen is among those Fulton communicates with on the ACM message board. Writing under the username "bob bob" but signing his posts "DropZone Bill," Fulton has posted 42 times since January, according to Google.

Check out one of "DropZone Bill's" posts on the ACM forum page from just last Saturday:

Thats why I said we all should know our flanks if your in My AOR (Area of Ressponsibility) by all means say hi tell me what area your operating in and how I can identify you same goes for me I will be more than happy to provide that same information to all those on my flanks by doing that before hand we can fix a lot of these issues what I don't agree with is getting involved with what ifs, triggers, internal politics, or communicating tactical information with other groups/units the less technical details we know about each other before the ballon goes up the better that way if one goes down for being stupid or set-up or both, the rest of us are clean. I'm not saying we should hide in the shadows by any means I just think tactical planning should stay within individual groups.

Get to know the guys and groups around you cut up the land scape like a pie each group having its own AOR it is responsible for. If your a lone operator it may just be your house or block but disseminate that information to the group or groups that butt up against you. Get a map of your area draw boundary lines, but that is all that should be on it. I have no problem sitting down with you or any of the other guys operating out of the Anchorage bowl and hacking out areas that way we all know each other and where everybody will operate the larger issues come when we start sharing plans and other tactical information.

I also am very glad this conversation sprang out of our meeting this needs to be had better now then later and this bulletin board is a great resource allowing us all to develop our thoughts and really take the time to hammer this out we all owe Norm a thank you for making this venue available to us.

Dropzone Bill

It is obvious from reading this forum post, and the ones both  preceding and following it, that these guys really believe that a war with the Federal government, and UN peace keeping troops, is imminent.  They are essentially gathering weapons and exchanging tactical information so that they will only kill Federal agents, military personnel, and civilians who wander into their perimeter, and NOT EACH OTHER.

I am beginning to believe that THIS information might be just as important, or even more important, than finding out about Joe Miller's unethical behavior while working for the North Star borough.

I would like somebody to ask Teabagger Joe, what his involvement is with ANY militia members in Alaska, and if he is aware that the guy he hired to rough up Tony Hopfinger is actively planning to take up arms against our own military members and Federal agents? Remember he DID make that remark about admiring how East Germany managed to control the flow of immigrants with that great fence of theirs.

(BTW for any of you who think I might be exaggerating the crazy, I invite you to click the link to the ACM forum page and read a few of those posts for yourself. And if you live in Alaska good luck trying to sleep tonight.)

When he worked for the borough, was that a government position supported by tax dollars? If so, he has no legal right to privacy over his work record. It belongs to the people of Alaska. This appears to be going the same way as the Wooten debacle with Miller trying to hide behind some imaginary privilege to deceive the public. Good thing he has Van Flein, et al to guide him through the process. Sounds like he'll be doing a lot of counter-suing if he feels the need to go after every former employee who has negative things to say about him. Maybe he'll set up a JoePAC to illegally solicit funds for legal expenses just like you-know-who.

"I am beginning to believe that THIS information might be just as important, or even more important, than finding out about Joe Miller's unethical behavior while working for the North Star borough."

Indeed. And could it be that, once the connection between Joe and the militia is unraveled, that thread will also start to pull apart the tangled web of Miller-militia-AIP-Palins-Wasilla "mafia". My intuition tells me that something like this, and not Babygate, is what would bring Palin down. If it were true, then I believe that *this* would be the Palin scandal that the mainstream media would finally cover.

Perhaps Palin can give Gestapo Joe some helpful advice on how to get the RNC to pay for his ethics legal bills. It's unfortunate that neither Joe, nor his long-suffering wife, are particularly attractive.

Keep posting about this nutcase, Joe Miller.

The northern half of Arizona is filled to the brim with people just like him and they are heading south. Maybe that's where we should have checkpoints--somewhere just south of Phoenix!

I sometimes think that a fence, like East Germany's, would be more about restricting Americans' travel, as well as being racist and wrong. However, right now "Fences" are just dog whistles for Rethugs. When I talk to ranchers at the border 45 minutes south of Tucson, they know and say that there will never be any way to stop some movement across the border.

Why hasn't this cultural virus (Tea Partiers'/Paylin's/McCain's insanity/narcissism) worn itself out yet?!

You do know, don't you, that Arizonans fully expect McLame to win re-election? Doesn't that tell you something? Puh!

Believe me I am way more afraid of these nuts than our big bad government that is for sure. If people in Alaska vote this nutjob in then the rest of you sane people should just leave.

Did she have any knowledge or in any way associated wit hmiller's plan to oust the republican Rudy R as head of the republican party of Alaska?

I ditto what Anne in CO said at 7:32. Remember that speech Sarah made on video for an AIP meeting? Didn't that footage also include comments made by the AIP Pres about Sarah infiltrating mainstream government. He called her "our girl"or something like that. No doubt about it. The Palins are involved. All that talk about Obama palling around with terrorists was projection. The Palings are domestic terrorists.

  18. A righteous lawsuit against Joe Miller and his thugs by Tony Hopfinger would most likely have stopped Miller and crew like a brick wall.

He was in the perfect position to bring shady Joe down but he chose instead to throw this gift of the Fates in the garbage and walk away and let yet another repug psycho get away with their favorite game of playing the victim!

The fact that Hopfinger refused to press charges against Miller and his hired thugs leads me to believe that since no Alaskans will stand up and tell the whole truth that they have no guts and that YOU deserve the leaders that you get,but not the rest of us!

Before you start your little Piranha attacks on me let me tell you I have fought this kind of ignorance and bullying myself [not in Alaska]. They poisoned my dog, arsoned my truck, threatened me with gang rape and burning my house down while I slept. The law enforcement was related to the SOBs so no help there, and after a year I abandoned my home and moved away. Not because I had run out of fight, but because I couldn't find ONE other person with the balls to stand up and fight the corruption and BS with me. They all had some pissy assed excuse that didn't hold water for hiding behind their curtains and turning a blind eye to the truth of what was going on.

You, like they can continue keeping silent, scared shitless of Goliath, or you can gather together in broad daylight with your slingshot and remove her/him/them before they enslave your children as they have you all enslaved now! How pathetic are you who would prefer living enslaved in fear, afraid to confront the bullies and tyrants face to face!

You wave a flag and shout "support our troops" who have been sent in harms way to fight and perhaps die on the pretext of fighting for Our freedom, the same "freedom" YOU are too cowardly to stand up for and defend here at home from the tyrants within!

YOU are the people who went to school with prick teasing Sarah and her nasty, mean ways.

YOU are the people who let her get elected mayor.

YOU are the people who allowed her to become gov. of Alaska where she caught the eye of a horny old repug goat who let his penis do his thinking for him as he chose her for his VP running mate.

Keeping silent through all of this does not free you from the responsibility for the results for it is called SILENT CONSENT!

If you don't speak up and stop these teabagging trash magnets now YOU will bear the responsibility for the world wide holocaust which these Armageddon spouting bible thumpers have planned should they win.

Anonymous 7:24. Unfortunately, that's incorrect. There is a legal right to privacy for public employees. That's repeatedly been litigated.

What may be the case under Alaska law (and I don't practice there) is that, by disclosing portions of the records, Miller waived any right to privacy with respect to documents on the same subject matter.

This is major stuff. While I'm sure this type of militia group has always been with us as a subculture, they're stoked now by the whole Tea Party-Koch mantra (and probably because they're stealthily being propped up by them--witness the hiring of the Joey-the-Beard thug squad).

Just imagine if this was 15 years ago--before the Internet was widely used and accessible. Would we be aware of all this? About any of it? Unless you were local and "in the know," not until it was too late. Thanks to intrepid bloggers like Gryphen, we do, along with all the backup to prove it.

I agree with Ann in CO that this connection may be the Achilles heel that finlly brings St. Scarah and her "wholesome Amurikan" brood down. Babygate is VERY valid and would prove without a doubt that whatever is backing her would do just about anything to promote SP and their agenda. However, this armed militia thing tends to scare the beejesus out of people--unless they have the exact same mindset. I doubt a roomful of paid Palinbots whirling at top speed could spin their way out of this one.

o/t I read a comment on some liberal blog this morning about the errors of Obama and such things. I'm not sure why i never thought of this before now but there are plenty of other things to call Mr President out on.

Don't you find it funny that people call Sarah a quitter for resigning from her Publicly elected post as Gov, yet Obama did the EXACT SAME THING when he began running for and became President. He walked out on Illinois for personal/political gain, because his buddies saw the democratic light in him.

The interesting thing to think about is how will these Tea Partiers react if they don't win big in November? They already feel as if their country has been taken away and that Obama is a crook so I can only imagine the whining about voter fraud.

They expect to win, they expect to take over, and what if they don't? Will they slink away and lick their wounds or will they take 2nd Amendment action? Personally I don't think the Republicans/TP will take over either the House or Senate so it will be interesting.

The other thing to note is that a lot of these militia types feel that the military will join them in the event of anarchy or armed insurrection. That is a big part of the Oathkeepers requirements for members to be Police, Retired Military, or AD Military.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Anonymous1:12 PM

I think a lot of them will be killed by "FRIENDLY FIRE." After reading some of the posts over there, they really don't like/trust each other very much.

But I do wonder if most of these people in the militia were discharged from the services for mental problems.

And I also wonder what they want to be FREE from and what they want to be FREE to go to?
They all seem to be very paranoid and afraid of every thing and every body. They don't seem to realize that they are FREE NOW to join the militia and to own weapons and to speak out against government.

What is the future as they see it, after they kill all of the
'bad guys' How will they live, how will they form a NEW NATION. How will their new world not be the same or most likely worse then they see it now?

Will Norm be the SUPREME RULER?
What happens when Norm wants to take all the goodies and leave them with nothing, when Norm takes away all of the weapons (so that they don't kill him), when Norm determines who will eat and who will not, when they realize that Norm is BATSHIT CRAZY and only out for himself?

What will happen when Norm decides that there will be no FREEDOM OF SPEECH and dissenters must be killed? Will Norm sit in a cave like Marlon Brando in that movie that I cannot recall the name of. But there will be NO ONE to call for help because they have killed all of the so called "bad guys."

It must be horrible to live in fear every day of your life.

I don't think the meds are working for most of these militia people.

Guess you can take some people out of the military, but you can't take the military out of those people.

Apparently the Alaska Militia is the "model" for the rest of the country's militias.

This guy describes Schaeffer Cox mobilizing militia to respond to arrests by Alaska law enforcement. Huh, that wasn't in the newspaper!

"Fortunately for all Americans, Mr. Cox does not just "talk the talk". He has be very active in establishing an Alaskan Militia that claims approximately 3,500 members. In a very bold move, the Alaskan Militia delivered copies of the declaration they had signed to numerous State troopers and police officers. They explained that if any member of the militia was harrassed or abused, or if their houses were subjected to "unreaaonable searches and siezures", that the families of those police officers would be subjected to the same form of treatment.
Let's examine the typical police response to any report of crime, including traffic infractions. The alleged criminal is quickly surrounded by "overwhelming odds", sometimes as high as fifteen police officers for one non-violent suspect. What would happen if dozens of armed militia members surrounded police officers at a suspected crime scene? It might surprise you to know that police officers can be convinced to lower their guns and return to their cars because - standing down is much safer than flashing your badge and insisting that you are working in an official government capacity.
This isn't a fictional account from a new action movie. It is a story related to me by my good friend, Schaeffer Cox."

As a die-hard Democrat and progressive who thought we were FINALLY going to progress, I have come to terms with the fact that the GOP will take over the House, and I would be fine with it...but what I find disturbing, and what I will not come to terms with is that some of these people are INSANE, and there has been a real lack of public scrutiny of the GOP's candidates by the media, who seem thrilled to be rehashing debates and arguments from the 1990's. Why aren't the pundits talking about Joe Miller's illegal posse and Christine O'Donnell illegally taking money from her campaign fund and Carly Fiorina, um, hello, proving that she can't be trusted with power instead, we're talking about government funding of NPR and Anita fucking Hill -- no offense to Anita Hill, I'm sure she's a lovely person, I just am annoyed that we're talking about her, now 20 years later when there are all of these people who are a hair away from being clinically insane who are ON THE VERGE OF GOVERNING THE COUNTRY?

The media is giving these assbags the same kid-glove treatment they gave Bush after 9/11, the same coverage they gave Sarah Palin (hi, she didn't even have to lie about Tawd's seccessionist politics because it was dropped, almost instantly after discovery), and, yes, possibly Barack Obama.

THE MEDIA'S JOB IS NOT TO ADVOCATE FOR THE UNDERDOG, IT'S TO FUCKING REPORT THE STORIES AND PRESENT THE FACTS.

Sorry about the anti-media rant. I have to get this stuff off my chest, and I've found that this is one of the best places to do it.

So, in short, let's raise some hell and remind our friends to vote. Vote early, if you can, and remind your progressive friends to do the same. If they're mad at Barack Obama, just tell them you understand, that you feel the same way, but that the alternative is letting our country be run by a bunch of bigoted buttheads who don't believe in science and don't have any plan at all to help this country AT ALL, and who, as this country faced the worst economic disaster in 80 years, sat back and chose to DO NOTHING, just because they saw the writing on the wall and realized unemployment would still be high by now; they have, as far as I can tell, NO national strategy to create more jobs, except extend the tax cuts that worked so well in the first place, that we ended up in the recession in the first place. Oh, and most of them voted AGAINST tax cut extensions for the middle class, for political reasons. CLASSY!

So, in short. Vote. Tell your progressive friends to vote. And your Republican friends...well...I'd tell you to give them directions to the wrong polling place, but that's illegal, so maybe you should just put a leash and a collar on them, explaining to them, quite clearly and slowly, that anyone STUPID ENOUGH TO THINK THAT CUTTING TAXES WILL REDUCE THE DEFICIT is clearly too irrational and stupid to do anything without constant supervision. Because, really, it's true.

Then ask them what programs they'd cut.

Guaranteed it'll just be something about "stuff" for "other people" and nothing at all for them.

I tell ya, this year, it's really been hard for me to feel optimistic about the human condition.

Tom says~~ I joined The USMC to protect the U.S. it looks to me as if these Militia guys, the Palin's and a whole bunch of fruitcakes have the intention of attacking our way of life and that means attacking the whole U.S. They claim to be Patriots and yet they arm themselves against us.What the hell does "It may not be a good idea to shoot someone before asking questions " What questions? Who's worthy of being shot? These guys better get a grip there are more people in this Country who are real Patriots and they are called U.S. Citizens and were getting fed up with these Teabag and Militia threats against social order and this great country.

Blogger GKerry @ 9:11 am WELL SAID!...
I said the same about a year or two ago, but I was viciously attacked for 'not knowing what I was talking about', and for not being an Alaskan. Hope *YOU* don't get attacked this time around!

  52. One of those militia guys works at the hospital here in Soldotna, between thatm the workplace bullying and the keystone cop atmosphere I canceled some tests and procedures.

I read a lot about the economy and post peak oil and it is possible that in the future the country could collapse. We are going to have a rough time, but there are things we can do. Germany has so much wind and solar power they are causing problems with their grid. We will have to adapt, not have armed battles. Even if the military came after us, a bunch of guys with guns and IEDS are nothing against planes with bombs, heat rays and tanks, so all their preparations for war make no sense. They are playing army because they are people who feel powerless and less than, these are the root causes of bullying. Lack of information while being exposed to lies is the root cause of their paranoia.

I'd say all this information coming out about AIP, Militias, connections with politicians, and apparent blessing from ministers, goes a long way toward explaining why people are too scared to talk to anyone. I'm betting they haven't a clue who they can trust anymore.

All of this makes me even more suspicious about the fires at the church and Dar Miller's. Not to mention a couple of deadly planes crashes.

How far did William Fulton get in school? Did he graduate high school?

I sure does not appear so from his writing, sentence structure, lack of punctuation, etc. I had to read through his ramblings three times to try to find where the sentences began and ended.

I'd be looking to see if one of the persons posting on there could possibly be Joe Miller or Todd Palin....

Also, I'd bet there is something in file about him emailing Sarah Palin or something involving her for them to be so worried about it coming out.

Gryphen et al, keep pulling away at this militia thread. IMHO this is the most important discussion I have seen on this blog. Alaskans, tell what you know about the militia/AIP connections of Miller and the Palins. Even if it has to be anonymous right now. Militias = domestic terrorists and those who advocate overthrowing the government = traitors. Consider well the consequences of giving these traitors an "in" into our government if Miller is elected.
