(Bristol) Palin's new chapter kicked off Thursday night in Visalia, where she spoke about abstinence—and breaking the news of her pregnancy to her shocked parents—to a supportive crowd at the Tulare-Kings Right to Life 15th Annual Making a Difference for Life Banquet. While promoting abstinence may not be new for the teen mom, who’s already a teen ambassador for the Candie’s Foundation, her Facebook recap of the Visalia event echoes the messaging of the pro-life movement, underscoring her increasingly public role as a pro-life advocate. It’s a message that’s right on track with the Palin brand: The former Alaska governor has always said it’s not just about talking the talk but also walking the walk, citing her decision to carry son Trig to term after she found out he had Down syndrome.
“There may be multiple forms of contraception, but I’m here to say that one fact remains. Those that practice abstinence have no chance of becoming pregnant,” Bristol Palin said Thursday, to cheers from the predominantly white and affluent audience. “Abstinence is not about morality, it is about reality. It is the only thing that works every time. My message is a simple one: Don’t make the same decision I made, just wait. Young ladies, please hear me.”
Organizers for the event did not allow members of the media into the convention center to record or photograph her appearance, and Palin, at one point in her talk, made reference to the “lamestream media.”
Bristol knows full well that the abstinence only approach to birth control is ridiculous when it comes to teenagers, hell she is the poster girl for how poorly that method works. (Of course as we learned from Sadie and her mom, Bristol was not even trying not to get pregnant back when she and Levi were canoodling.)
Do you remember back when Bristol was still being relatively honest?
For Bristol to now stand up before an audience of pro-life supporters and act as if back then she did not know any better, and has now seen the light, is a level of hypocrisy that must make her mother very proud indeed.
However even without access to the information that I have learned about Bristol's less than abstinent friendly activities recently, others are also seeing the glaring hypocrisy in the young woman's role as a pro-life spokesperson.
Palin’s abstinence-only message is attracting some criticism. “What is troubling is Bristol Palin’s role as a paid advocate of abstinence-until-marriage sex-education programs,” said Patsy Montgomery, director of public affairs for Planned Parenthood Mar Monte. “She is proof that these programs just don’t work. California recognizes that teens need medically accurate, comprehensive sex education to help them make responsible decisions about their bodies, and has banned abstinence-only programs in public schools. The result is that teen births in California continue to go down while states that embraced abstinence-only programs have experienced dramatic increases.”
It has become fairly obvious that this is the bone that Sarah threw Bristol to keep her out of trouble, and making her own money, so that Sarah can get back to planning her big campaign to show John McCain, and the Republicans, that without them holding her back there is nothing to stop her from finally getting the chance to redecorate the Oval Office.
Bristol is on the road with Ivy Frye at her side to keep her in check, Willow is on virtual lockdown, Track is self medicating and staying close to home until he decides what to do with the rest of his life, Piper is connected to Sarah at the hip, and Levi has been completely discredited. That leaves only Todd, and if the rumors about his lucrative deal with Sarah are true then he will gladly continue to hold her handbag and act like her attack dog, all while he fantasizes about the awesome new snowmachines and fishing boat he will be able to buy when this charade is finally over.
However Sarah, as usual, you have missed a few little details. Secrets in Alaska, are getting so hard to keep these days aren't they?
Gryphen, I wish you would revisit the compound, take some more photos, and update your audience on exactly who is where. What do you mean by lockdown for Willow? Are you saying that Track has completed one tour of duty and is considering a return engagement? Are there any babies currently living at the compound? Does Piper ever attend school? What about your mention some months back that Todd and Willow had moved to Palmer? Has that changed? Was that just an unconfirmed rumor? Keep up the good work. Inquiring minds want to know!

Ya know, despite what Bristol did, I commend her for supporting abstinence. I for one know way too many people who got pregnant on the depo, on the pill, with a diaphragm, with condoms, a day after giving birth, while breast feeding, after tubal ligation/vascectomy combined and separate. It is very true that the only way to prevent pregnancy is abstinence. And teenagers and immature 30 year olds alike should not be engaging in sexual activities. It is crazy to assume they will therefore let's teach contraception.

You do know that friends and family come and go from the Compound all the time. It's always hopping with activity. Wasilla is one big family essentially. You have no proof how long she stayed at the party, if she fooled around, if she approved or even knew about the vandalism. Why are you treating an innocent girl like a criminal. My guess is she attended it with friends, (the Valley is known for huge parties and all school aged children attend all dances and all the high schools), and she left early. Vandalism doesn't happen until things really pick up and my guess is she didn't stay until the end. Willow's not the wild one. She's fun loving and sassy, but not wild. I was wild. I drank at school in 8th grade, took most of my finals wasted in middle school and gave head on school bus trips. This doesnt mean my parents were neglectful or uncaring. It's what kids do. You remember. Then we grow up, realize we were dumbshits and pray our children make better decisions. that is where Bristol's at.

If I saw a young person struggling and I could help him/her, would I ask someone else to pay me $10,000 to give sage advice to this young person?
ReplyDeleteThe underlying message here is not about abstinence. It's the fact that the speaker now gives advice for thousands of dollars per speech. This isn't right.
Now, if the young girl went to college and got a degree or some type of training to counsel young girls, and she was paid a salary for doing such, ok. That salary would be modest but the biggest reward, like for teachers, is seeing young lives changed for the better.
It's the fame/celebrity/exploitation of a one like Bristol who is no more qualified to speak than the young pregnant girl in a poor neighborhood. Bristol gets the job because her mother probably pulled strings for her. Her mother is tied in with influential people.
Imagine a teen who was contemplating having sex for whatever reasons, listening to a a rich girl who's almost a millionnaire by now preaching abstinence. It wouldn't make one iota of influence on that young girl's life, simply because Bristol can't relate to middle-class, or poverty-class teenagers. She's never shown any interest in people up to this point, so why should girls accept anything she says, considering she never came from a broken home, with problems, horrible circumstances.
If Sarah and Bristol want to prove to the world they really care about "abstinence", then common sense would tell them it's the PARENTS, not a $10,000/per speech speaker who's going to inject any conviction of these teens. So funny that the Palins hate big government intruding in families' lives, but they have no problem with accepting huge chunks of money for the speaker-circuit gigs, preaching something to girls - and the biggest joke of all? to those girls who can't even AFFORD to attend.
PARENTS should be teaching their kids about abstinence. Not Bristol Palin. PARENTS are responsible for their kids. Not idols. The Palins of all people should know that PARENTS are the ones who are looked up to by their kids, not Bristol Palin.

8:03, re: vandalism It happened the SECOND they broke into the house. Ask any cop. You don't have to trash much inside for it to be vandalism, one door will do. If Willow was there at all, she is guilty of trespassing at the least and a helluva lot more at the most.

He and his friends opened our eyes to what these boys go thru after serving in combat. They use and trade everything they could. The military is the best supplier. Same thing happened to the Morlock boy. He had head trauma. Instead of getting him the treatment he needed, they medicated him. Don't think the military doesn't know soldiers are also smoking poppy laced hash and all they can get their hands on.

Who is the man ("her handler") that is guarding Bristol as she eats? Why don't they name names? He looks familiar, that is not Cole's boy and he is not her date, he is on someones payroll.

Gryphen, I can't help but wonder in this "affluent, mostly white audience in Visalia", how many did Bristol's abstinence only message even apply towards? Were there really that many young girls in the audience that were going to be so awed by the influence of Bristol "I'm making so much money because I got knocked up" Palin, that they suddenly told their boyfriends that their current of future sex life was now just a far off dream?
ReplyDeleteIf Bristol & Sarah really gave a damn about the teen pregnancy rates in this country, she'd be traveling as a pro-sex education advocate. You can tell kids all you want not to have sex, but that doesn't mean a damn thing when their hormones are raging. Do you really think some young girl is going to think twice after listening to Bristol who has made a fortune because she got knocked up? They're going to think "it worked out great for Bristol. She's well known, on TV, magazine covers and making lots of money. I hope I get pregnant and can make lots of money, too."
You Palin defenders are a joke.
So Bristol is making lots of money talking about things she learned in grad school followed up by years of training in clinics while studying under world renowned doctors.

So now we have this underage girl who gave birth to a child while still in high school who did not continue post high school education and she now makes twice the income of families and the only education or skills she has is what mother nature gave her. Levi or some guy impregnates her and mother nature took over the rest and now she tells people what to do.
Why not give your money to help victim of natural disasters, but then again you can argue that Bristol is the result of a natural disaster.
It just sad to see people give their money to Bristol who’s only job skill was laying on her back.
Bristol and Sarah must be laughing up a storm. Now the real problem is what to do with the rest of the Palin off springs? What pyramid scheme can they come up with so they can sit back and watch the money come in with out any skills on their parts?

It's a HUGE lie to assume kids who are on abstinence programs are not having sexual activities. The episode of family guy, where the girl has "ear sex" with her boyfriend while abstinent is right on target.
ReplyDeleteYou can have sex with your mouth, your fingers, your hands, and your ass, with another partner. You can also masturbate with another partner. At the very least, this is what teens are doing. Then when they slip, they have unprotected sex. Studies have show the STD rate is higher with abstinence-only kids than with regular kids.
Why aren't the trolls who are defending the Bristol Palin, Sarah Palin, and Christine O'Donnell version of sex education talking about STD's's at all? Because it would destroy their fantasy.
Kids today don't need a Wasilla fantasy. They need an education. They need hard facts. And they need access to contraception.
Why do we care? Because these are OUR kids. This is MY country. These are MY tax dollars being used to support single teen moms. Because we can't afford a wasted generation, that's why. We can't afford to throw away young girl's lives. They're worth more than that.
So Sarah and Bristol - Yes, it's MY BUSINESS and I suggest you stop slumming in LA and start praying to God that he forgives you for lying and grifting at the expense of those who can least afford it.
