Sarah Palin fantasizes that President Obama actually reads her ghostwritten Facebook rants and demands that he cut Federal funding to NPR over firing of Juan Williams.

Let's get one thing out of the way first.

Sarah Palin does not give two shits about Juan Williams.

He has called her out multiple times for being ignorant and nothing more than a Republican centerfold.

To put it bluntly, Sarah Palin would not have pissed on Juan Williams if he had spontaneously combusted right in front of her.

However the Right Wing has had a hard on for NPR for years, and this is their excuse to go after them en masse.  Which is why we hear exactly the same mantra from Mike Huckabee, Rush Limbaugh, Bill O'Reilly, Jim Demint (Who is actually introducing a bill to defund NPR), and of course Sarah Palin.

From the depths of Palin's Facebook page:

NPR says its mission is “to create a more informed public,” but by stifling debate on these issues, NPR is doing exactly the opposite. President Obama should make clear his commitment to free and honest discussion of the jihadist threat in our public debates – and Congress should make clear that unless NPR provides that public service, not one more dime.

Mr. President, what say you?

- Sarah Palin

"Mr. President, what say you?"  I believe this was the President's response.

Listen up you whackjob, the President is a busy man!  He does not have time to visit your Facebook page and see what pretty pictures you colored with your crayon set. He has a country to run!

So obviously the right wing is going to try and do to NPR what they successfully did to  ACORN.  However this time they run into a slight problem.  Number one the White House is much better prepared to deal with this crap this time around, but more importantly NPR does not really rely on federal dollars.

Public broadcasting reported total income of $2.3 billion in FY2003 (the most recent data available). The federal contribution made up about 15% of the system’s total income. The remaining 85% was raised from non-federal sources (individuals, businesses, foundations, state and local governments, and educational institutions). The largest single income source (26% in FY2003) came from membership. Neither PBS nor NPR receives operating funds from the CPB; only the local member stations receive these funds directly.

Hmm well THAT is going to make it a little difficult to shut down a news organization that regularly reports those left leaning facts simply by cutting off Federal funds.  Even if the Republicans throw themselves onto the floor of the Senate kicking and screaming it is unlikely they will be able to achieve their desired effect in this situation.

Might be kind of fun to watch however.

DeMint can introduce all the bills he wants to to defund NPR but since they get NO, NONE, ZIP, ZERO direct funding from the Federal government, it would be just another ignorant idiotic thing that the Republican Nazis waste everyone's time and money on.

NPR gets no direct federal funding.

    None.

1 to 3% of their budget comes from grants through the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. That is indirect federal money.

NPR has clearly shifted to the right. Don't let the vanilla feel-good stories fool you. They have been covering a lot of stuff initiated by the right, like the Is Obama a muslin survey story. What Williams said has to be taken in context, why and where it was said.

I love the "Sarah's first bowel movement in two weeks" picture!

Murmers coming out of NPR are that Williams may have some problems with sexual harassment there, and should have been fired a long time ago. I guess Fox will completely ignore THAT little fact while ramming this story down their viewer's throats.

ugh NPR was an abomination from the get go but this has all been blown out of proportion. I'm glad Juan was fired because now he can sue the shit out of them if he desires to. It's called stating an opinion people. Oreilly stated an opinion on the View and angered the already edgy dems, and Juan stated HIS PERSONAL opinion.

Now if he had said to America, "Boycott all airlines who sell tickets to Muslims" that would warrant firing and investigation.

People are crazy. And quick to rash judgment. And stupid. On both sides of the aisle.

OK. IF these morons, somehow, magically actually get this bill through - I say we just ramp up our donations and cover the loss. NPR is an important resource - hell, could be even more, if they had the funding like a BBC.

I'm pretty sure one of her puppet masters, Murdoch co-owner of News Corp and Fox News and his Saudi big investor would just love to destroy NPR any way they can because NPR has a huge, loyal national audience.

From all that I have read about Murdoch, he hates competition simply because it is competition. His son, who only recently re-joined the family business, is much like him from all accounts. Murdoch wants it all for the sake of having it all and running everything according to his vision of "what's good for the country."

Yeah, right, Murdoch. I'd say go back to Australia, but they were glad to run you out. His homeland can't stand him.

She can continue wearing her fingers to the bone tweeting and posting on FB trying to get a personal response from the president, but it won't do her any good. The President knows how toxic Palin is and won't give her the satisfaction of responding to any of her questions. Even if he did address one of her questions, she'd turn it into another attack.

How many times is she willing to embarrass herself by trying to get some kind of attention from President Obama?

It must suck for Palin to know that she has the "ear" of Limbaugh, Beck, Murdoch, Ailes, Gingrich, Malek, Rove, etc, but none of them are as important as our president!

The only reason that Sarah has come to the defense of Juan Williams is because he is a fellow associate at Fox. They are a team, and an insult to one hate-monger who makes racist statements is an insult to all of them.

Williams had been warned repeatedly that he could not advocate for his personal political beliefs as far as NPR was concerned. Those rules don'[t apply at Fox. Besides, Sarah knows that if she makes a big stink over this, she will get the attention. It has nothing to do with Williams; it's still all about Sarah.

Hey, Sarah, "What say you?" is disrespectful.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I'd bet big bucks that Sarah's true fury is over the Miller-militia-AIP-Palin mess. The faux outrage over Williams is likely a projection/distraction to shift focus away from Miller. Please don't let her succeed. I'd love to see Miller implode and take Sean Parnell with him.

Meanwhile she proves that she can't learn. What will it take to get this former governor and VP candidate up to speed on the 1st Amendment that she insists she is fighting to protect? She has it completely backassward. And why is the press covering O'Donnell's 1st Amendment ignorance and not Palin's?

Next thing you know Palin & DeMint will want govt to enact legislation to deal with the company policy of the local mom & pop grocery store! Also, a few years ago, I was an in-person volunteer at a station, and if you are short on cash, but have 3 hours a week to answer phones for them, it's another way to show support--plus you meet others in your community.

If the yappy little ankle-nipper dancing around our feet would shut up and go listen to NPR for as much as one day she'd see that they present both sides of a story better than anyone else. This one will backfire on her; there are hundreds of thousands of us who rely on NPR and we bailed them out when they did lose so much federal funding some years ago; if need be we can do it again. According to a multi-part report in the latest issue of Extra! magazine, published by media watchdog group FAIR (Fairness & Accuracy in Reporting), PBS is not the indie alternative to corporate-owned television it once was. In fact, in many ways, PBS now is corporate-owned television. At the same time, many PBS shows’ guest lists are woefully non-diverse.

I don't believe what I heard he said was racist - he said he was uncomfortable personally. No fuss, no asking to be moved, no getting off the plane.... just uncomfortable.

Is it racist to say when I see a group of teens gathered together on the sidewalk - no matter what ethnicity - my heart beats a bit faster until I am around them? I don't think so.
