New Poll: "Alaskans were very clear about their disapproval with their former Governor, Sarah Palin." Gee ya think?

Courtesy of Public Policy Polling:

Even though Alaska is a very red state, Hillary Clinton is running very competitively against possible Republican candidates for the 2016 election among Alaskan voters.

Across state-wide political positions, Republicans are polling well. Republican Congressman Don Young has a 50% approval rating. When asked whether they would vote for Congressman Young or Democrat Scott McAdams for Congress next year, 54% of Alaskan voters say they would vote for Young.

Alaskans also approve of their Republican Senator, Lisa Murkowski, who holds an even higher approval than Rep. Young with 54-33. If there was an election for the state legislature today, more people would vote for a Republican than a Democrat (45-36).

With this political stage set up, Clinton still fares relatively well in Alaska. 47% of Alaskans have a favorable opinion of her and when matched up against most Republicans going into the 2016 election, she wins.

Clinton beats Sarah Palin (53-37) and Marco Rubio (44-43) and barely falls behind Chris Christie by one point (42-43).

( This my favorite part.)

Alaskans were very clear about their disapproval with their former Governor, Sarah Palin. 78% of Alaskans believe Sarah Palin should not run for President in 2016 and when asked whether they have a higher opinion of Congress or Sarah Palin, Alaskans choose Congress (50-34). This is especially telling since their approval of Congress is at a meek 8%.

“Alaskans are pretty clearly done with Sarah Palin,” said Dean Debnam, President of Public Policy Polling. “They wouldn’t support her for the Senate, they wouldn’t support her for President, and they have an ever lower opinion of her than they do of Congress.”

I doubt you will find too many Alaskans who will argue with these statistics.

I am thrilled at the idea that Hillary Clinton might carry my state, I always believed that Obama would have had much better numbers if  McCain had not snatched up the Wasilla Wendigo and put her on the national stage, which made some Alaskans feel obligated to vote for one of their own.

However clearly that is no longer the case. Sarah Palin is essentially so unpopular in Alaska that I am not sure that anybody would even bother to piss on her if she were on fire.

And by the way that also goes for anybody in Alaska she has endorsed in the past.

Anybody heard from Joe Miller lately?

Republicans easily hold onto power in Alaska.

AP Photo/Michael Dinneen
Alaska remains deeply red today as Republicans, energized by the battle between Teabagger Joe and Lisa Murkowski, turned out in droves and Democrats once again snatched defeat out of the jaws of victory.

Early election numbers on this sad morning show that Don Young remains our lone Congressman with a whopping 68.74% of the vote to Democratic challenger Harry Crawford's pitiful 30.78%.

Sarah Palin's paler, less masculine replacement Sean Parnell also kept his job as Governor by bringing home 58.62% of the vote to Ethan Berkowitz's 38.21%.

As for the race which caused the most excitement and drama this election cycles, it appears that Lisa Murkowski has defied the odds and won back her seat with 41% of the vote to vaguely bearded Joe Miller's 34.20%, and Scott McAdams' 23.74%.

All in all this is a day that should make the Alaska Democrats hide their heads in shame for not getting energized enough to take advantage of a unique opportunity to bring Alaska home to its progressive roots,.

Of course on the plus side Joe Miller got his teabagging ass handed to him.

Having her butt boy lose this election will serve as a fairly significant defeat for Sarah Palin, but the bigger story is that her interference in the mid-term elections is going to be blamed for allowing the Democrats to hang onto the Senate even though the Republicans managed to get back the House.

Sarah's endorsement of the deeply flawed Sharron Angle allowed the extremely vulnerable Harry Reid to keep his Senate seat in Arizona, and her pick of the non-masturbating witch Christine O'Donnell, kept the much more electable Mike Castle from easily winning the Senate seat in Delaware.

Those two potentially easy victories for the Republicans would have allowed the GOP to gain control of BOTH the House and the Senate.

Sarah Palin singlehandedly kept that from happening.

Of course, if last night's tweets are any indication, the Grizzled Mama will be oblivious to how badly she just screwed up.

Very clear message to Pres Obama: we'll send our representatives to DC to stop your fundamental transformation of America. Enough is enough

Yes, well celebrate while you can Sister Sarah because the real powers behind the GOP have taken notice of your careless interference and you can bet they are poised for a little payback.

Like I said I am deeply disappointed in the Alaska Democrats, but I am extremely fascinated by what new information might suddenly become available about our famous half-term Governor.

The Teabagger phenomena that wasn't.

It has been an interesting election night so far.

The Republicans gained 50 seats in the House to take the majority, incumbents are being taken out right and left, but for the most unconventional candidates, the Teabaggers, the night has been one of very mixed results.

Rand Paul was victorious in Kentucky, however Christine O'Donnell is not only not a witch, she is also not a Senator.

Marco Rubio won in Florida, but Carl Paladino was forced to take his stupid orange bat and go home.

Jan Brewer remains the Governor of Arizona, but fellow "Mama Grizzlies" Sharron Angle, Carly Fiorina, and Meg Whitman went down in defeat.

As for Alaska's three way Senate race featuring Sarah Palin butt-boy Joe Miller, past incumbent now write-in candidate Lisa Murkowski, and all around great guy Scott McAdams,  well the polls have recently closed and the votes are just now trickling in.

As of this initial post, with 27.6% of precincts reporting, the numbers are as follows:

Joe Miller with 23,504 votes , or 34.15%
Scott McAdams with 17,414 votes, or 25.32%
And the write-in votes at 27,142 or 39.44% of the votes.

I will keep updating as the votes continue to roll in, but if you get impatient and want to check for yourself simply click here.

First update:

With 34.2% reporting

Joe Miller 29,242 votes or 34.45%
Scott McAdams 21,072 or 24.82%
Write-in votes 33,672 or 39.66%

Second update:
With 40% of precincts reporting.

Joe Miller 33,990 or 34.62%
Scott McAdams 24,430 or 24.88%
Write-in votes 38,727 or 39.45%

Against all odds it appears that Murkowski is winning this thing.  Unless of course there are a whole hell of a lot of other names being written in along with hers!

If Lisa wins it will be about two weeks before her votes are all tallied. Oh joy!

Third update:

With 51.1% of precincts reporting.

Joe Miller 44,502 or 34.69%
Scott McAdams 31,827 or 24.81%
Write-in votes 50,655 or 39.49%

Fourth update: No new numbers to report, I just thought I would let you know that I am exhausted and headed off to bed.  I will put up a new post in the morning to let everybody know what the numbers are, but as of right now it looks like we will not have an official winner for about two weeks.

BTW just to put a smile on your face, there are reports that the Republicans are royally pissed off at Sarah Palin for interfering in the primaries, because it looks like her meddling may have been what allowed the Democrats to hang onto the Senate.

Perhaps Karl Rove will now steal Keith Olbermann's signature line concerning Palin, 'That woman...is an idiot!"

New poll shows the Senate race in Alaska is one of the tightest in the nation.

A Hays Research poll posted at 2:00 p.m. today confirmed the findings of other recent polls—Lisa Murkowski is in third place in the three-way Alaska Senate race. The poll shows voters leaving both Murkowski and Miller as Alaskans respond to Scott McAdams' message that this senate race is "About Alaska," not party politics or national agendas.

“This poll confirms what we’ve been saying all along—that this is a wide open race,” said campaign spokesperson Heather Handyside. “It’s gratifying to see our campaign support increase week by week and day by day. That tells me that people have gotten to know Scott McAdams, agree with his policies, and believe he will best represent Alaska values in the U.S. Senate.”

The poll shows McAdams within striking distance of Miller:

Miller: 27%
McAdams: 26%
Murkowski: 25%
Undecided Voters: 22%

“This poll shows that Joe Miller can be beat,” said Scott McAdams. “And I’m the candidate on the ballot who will beat Miller.”

I can remember when the outcome of Alaska elections was virtually a foregone conclusion.

We knew every election season that Ted Stevens and Frank Murkowski would ultimately hang onto their Senate seats, and that Don Young would continue to be our sole Congressman.  No excitement, no drama, and no real good reason for Democrats to turn out and vote.

But my friends the world has changed. There is a gifted biracial gentleman sitting in the White House for the first time in our county's young history, a Democratic Senator representing our state in Washington for the first time in 29 years, and the opportunity to have TWO Democrats representing us for the first time since 1968. (see for yourselves.)

In other words THIS is our year!  And ALL we have to do to seize the day, is to show the hell up!

There are no long lines to discourage us from voting, or fear of violent reprisal to frighten us into staying home.  Sure there is new fallen snow on the ground but BFD?  That might keep Texans huddled under their down comforters staring at the frosty landscape through fear widened eyes, but we are ALASKANS!

We are the same people who turn to our lovers after an especially powerful earthquake (That would stain the skivvies of most out-of-staters),  and say "See baby?  I told you I would rock your world!'

We are the same people who drive the winding snow covered road to Alyeska with one hand outside of our car scraping ice off of our windshield during a blizzard, because we just KNOW that the conditions will be perfect for skiing and we want to beat the crowds.

We are the same people who survived on Pilot Bread and Spam, back in the sixties and seventies when the only green thing you could find in your refrigerator was the mold growing on the meatloaf that you made and forgot about two months back.

Democrats in this state have earned the reputation of being spineless pansy asses.  THAT is one of the reasons it took me so long to register as a Democrat. The "Spineless Pansy Ass Club" is not a club that gets to count me as a member! But the "Come From Behind and Kick the Opposition in the Ass Like We Did in 2008 Club" is a club I don't mind being a member of.

So I don't know about the rest of you Democrats in this state, but goddamn it I fight to win!  And since I joined your pitiful excuse for a political party I want you to get tough, get motivated, and get out there and show the Republicans that we are ready to return this great state to its deep blue progressive roots.

And don't give me any of your excuses about not feeling motivated, or start bitching because Obama did not walk on water like you expected and now you feel all disillusioned, because I don't fucking care!

My attitude toward any Democrat who fails to vote today is essentially the same as the one demonstrated by R. Lee Ermey in possibly my all time favorite commercial.

Look, all jocularity aside, your state, and your country, NEED you to vote. There is still so much more to do, and in order to get it done we need to elect as many REAL Democrats as possible.

Alaska NEEDS Scott McAdams.  And perhaps more importantly, after so many years of Republican domination, Alaska DESERVES Scott McAdams.  We have had our share of grifters, criminals, and whores, isn't it about time we finally elected one of the good guys?

And speaking of "good guys," Harry Crawford, Ethan Berkowitz, and Diane Benson are pretty damn impressive as well.  As long as you are already voting for Scott McAdams, why not vote the straight Democratic ticket and send Sarah Palin into a histrionic rage that would be ten times more entertaining to watch than that crappy "Sarah Palin's Alaska" show?

Now THAT would be "must see TV!"

After having to take Joe Miller to court in order to see HIS personnel file, Alaska Dispatch simply asks the Democratic candidate to see his file. Scott McAdams: "Sure no problem."

From Alaska Dispatch:

The state personnel office faxed his file on Friday. It covers the seven years McAdams worked as a museum security officer and visitors services supervisor for the state's Sheldon Jackson Museum in Sitka.

In fact, McAdams was working at the museum at the same time Miller was working for the the Fairbanks North Star Borough. Both started their jobs in 2002. Miller left the borough on Sept. 1, 2009; McAdams resigned his post in October 2009 to take a job with the Sitka School District.

McAdams' personnel file reflects a fairly unremarkable career there. A dependable and likeable employee by all accounts, he was given regular merit raises and received good evaluations from supervisors.

Among other things, he oversaw a junior docent program. He audited collections. He figured out a problem with the temperature and humidity control and once fixed something that was wrong with the fire prevention system.

"Scott has succeeded in learning the complexities of his position and overall does an outstanding job of delivering the services required of his job," a supervisor wrote in 2006. "I consider Scott trustworthy, dedicated, ambitious and ethical."

What?  No crazy talk of hitman coming to snuff him?

No illegal tampering with other employees computers?

No, wild mood swings or erratic behavior?

Not even a private security staff to hold his dick for him while he makes a pee pee?

Gee how boring.

You know based on these revelations I would say the only job Scott McAdams is perfectly qualified for is the SENATOR FROM THE GREAT STATE OF ALASKA!

P.S. VOTE! VOTE! VOTE! VOTE! VOTE! VOTE! (Too subtle?)

Rachel Maddow films her show in Alaska and I get to sit in the audience. Please do not pinch me, because if this is a dream, I don't want to wake up!

Here is the show's opening.  The bar is called the "Taproot" on Spenard road.

Directly behind Rachel on the left you can see Jeanne Devon (Mudflats), Linda Kellen Biegel is also there (Celtic Diva). I am directly behind Rachel's head and you will see me intermittently.  Shannyn Moore of course was interviewed by Maddow, and that video is embedded below.

Much of the show focuses on Rachel's difficulty getting an interview with Joe Miller, and of course how awkwardly it went when she finally did get it, but she also interviewed both Lisa Murkowski and Scott McAdams. Here is the segment that contains those interviews, and here is an additional piece where Rachel visits McAdams campaign headquarters.

In this segment Rachel interviews one of the great Alaskans who crafted our constitution, Vic Fisher, and Shannyn Moore.

I love that Vic Fisher reminds the viewers that the constitution is a "framework for the future" and was never meant, either the Alaskan or American version, to be "static and forgotten forever."  Quick somebody show this to Joe Miller, THEN he might know what in the hell he is talking about! Or better yet make him talk to Vic, like Rachel pointed out, he is still right here to explain to people if they don't get it!

Here Rachel arrives in Alaska and meets Tank Jones. (Yes I talked to Tank last night, but he asked me not to blog about it, so I won't.)  In this segment Maddow has a very informative conversation with Miller supporters, and learns how uneducated they are about the issues that they claim to be so upset about.

And finally here is the "interview on the run" that Rachel was finally able to get with Miller.  Go ahead and try to make sense of his answers to Rachel's questions about gay rights, I double dog dare you.

What a rude vaguely bearded prick! Personally I am embarrassed that Rachel had to see that side of Alaska.  Miller and his followers represent the very worst of us, and it is with great shame that I watch how he treated somebody who I respect a great deal on national television.

As I mentioned in the comments section earlier, I DID get a chance to meet and talk to Rachel briefly at the Dena'ina Center right before she interviewed Miller.

I believe this picture was taken right at the moment that she told me that she has been reading my blog. Yeah, I was pretty stunned as well!

I don't believe I have the words to describe how cool yesterday was for me.  Essentially it rocked!

I thought the highlight of my week, hell my month, would be attending the "Rally to Restore Sanity" in Washington, now I am not so sure.  Jon and Stephen are going to really have to pull out teh stops in order to beat my amazing day watching the filming of the "Rachel Maddow Show" and meeting her face to face.

Wow! The Grizzled Mama did NOT like how the Alaska Senate debate went last night!

From the quitter's twitter:

Most appalling US Senate debate comments I've ever heard were spewed last night in Alaska.Lisa's horrific attack on Miller's military honor
about 3 hours ago via Twitter for BlackBerry®

"Oh my God, Oh my God!  Did you see how mean they were to Joey?  Don't they know I picked him special to be the red, white, and blue draped, Constitutional luvvin', Senator from Sarah Palin's Alaska? How dare that "Daddy's girl' ask him about his past. Just like me, and all of those who like to teabag, we don't feel we should have to talk about our past!  What's done, and carefully covered up, is done don'tcha know?"

The portions of the debate that seems to have gotten under Palin's skin, and turned Miller's face red during the debate, were the questions from Murkowski asking Miller how, considering his unethical behavior while working as a lawyer at the North Star Borough in Fairbanks and the "lies" he has told about her, his fellow West Point graduates would feel about how well he represents their values.

Yep, that one drew blood.

However as this vidoe from CNN shows Teabagger Joe was not exactly pulling his punches either.

(BTW that bizarre caterwauling you hear after Murkowski makes the case that McAdams was not ready and Miller was not fit for the job, were ALL Miller supporters. They were very, very unhappy that Murkowski dared to say on television what most of us have already figured out about the "vaguely bearded one" for ourselves.)

In my opinion, from my vantage point right behind Murkowski in the audience, Miller and Lisa ripped each other to shreds leaving McAdams looking like the only grown up in the race.

P.S. If you want to watch the entire debate from start to finish you can view it right here.

Friday, October 22, 2010

Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy! Rachel Maddow talked about Alaska's crazy Senate race last night!

Damn she touched on just about every bizarre twist and turn concerning this race except William Fulton's  militia connection and the reason that Joe Miller cannot grow a real man's beard!

God I LOVE it when Rachel Maddow takes a story that I have been following and adds her special magic to it!  She has such a great way of presenting complicated information in a concise, easy to understand manner that makes it so accessible to even the casual political observer.

Okay gang I have a request for you.

Please, get at as many Alaskan voters as possible to see this clip!

Post it on your Facebook, tweet about it, or send it in an e-mail, but get it out there as far and wide as possible.  We have learned that the MORE people learn about Joe Miller, the LESS they like him (Gee who does that sound like?), so let's educate us some potential voters shall we?

Scott McAdams to Lisa and Teabagger Joe: I showed you mine, now you show me yours. Update!

McAdams Campaign Releases List of Donors, Urges other Candidates to do the Same
McAdams vows not to accept money from corporate PACs

U.S. Democratic Senate candidate Scott McAdams challenged his opponents to be more transparent with Alaska voters and to disclose the source of their donors by releasing the complete list of individual and political action committees (PACs) that have contributed to their campaigns.

“Alaskans need to know now, before the election, who is funding the Senate campaigns,” McAdams said. “Lisa has accepted startling sums of money from corporations and now openly touts the support of a new ‘Super-PAC.’ Meanwhile Joe’s fundraising is still hidden behind a maze of Tea-Party donors and Outside interests.”

McAdams is the only candidate to post his most recent donor list, dated October 15, on his website.

This action illustrates the inadequacy of existing federal election law. Furthermore, at the Alaska Dispatch candidate debate in Anchorage, McAdams vowed not to accept any money from corporate PACs now or when he gets elected.

“There is already a tremendous amount of special interest and corporate money in this Senate race,” McAdams said. “Unfortunately, it is very difficult for voters to find out who is giving to candidate’s campaign without the candidates themselves posting the information.”

Currently federal candidates are not required to file their Federal Election Commission (FEC) reports electronically. Instead, they are only required to mail in hard copies which the FEC then posts. This year the reporting deadline for post-primary quarterly FEC reports was October 15, 2010 and the reports have not yet been posted on the FEC website.

The McAdams for Senate donor list can be found right here.

Well I for one would LOVE to see exactly who is donating to Murkowski and Miller's campaigns!

Wouldn't you?

Update:

McAdams campaign reaches million dollar mark!

In only 2 months, the Scott McAdams for U.S. Senate campaign has raised over $1 million in donations. Almost all funds have arrived in donations under $200. This statistic stands in sharp contrast with Scott’s opponents who rely on outside media buys and corporate public action committees (PAC’s). Facts about the McAdams campaign fundraising results:

Total amount raised August 5, 2010 – October 20, 2010: $1,010,000
Total number of donations: Over 12,000
Total number of people who donated $200 or less: 88%
Total number of Alaskans who donated: Over 3,900
Total amount donated by Alaskans: $538,000 (54%)

88% of donations were $200 or less.

Now THAT is a grass roots campaign!

The Teabaggers brag that they are the grassroots campaign. But that is bullshit!

If Miller wants to prove he is not a corporate whore he needs to post HIS donor list.  If he fails to do that then we know that his campaign is funded by millionaires from outside trying to influence Alaska politics and get their hands on our resources to make themselves even richer.

Meet Joe MIller's rag tag gang of jack booted thugs for hire. Update!

From the Daily Kos:

So who do these guys work for, anyway? It turns out their employer, Drop Zone, is a Survivalist/Security/Tactical Assault/Tea Party/Military Surplus type store in Anchorage.

Actually they are located in Spenard!  Spenard is where people who live in Anchorage can usually find cheap hookers and crack cocaine for sale.  And THIS is where the "vauguely bearded one" goes shopping for his "security" staff?

Check out the pictures of the building that serves as a headquarters fro these bozos.

(H/T Ugly in Spenard)

And just in case you were not quite sure of their politics, THIS was in the window of their shop.

And apparently how they treated journalist Tony Hopfinger is not exactly out of the norm for them.

Here is an account by a customer who went in and asked some questions:

Rude service‎ Went there to ask some questions and ended up getting put in handcuffs and having to wait for APD to come and rescue me. They should rename it JackBooted Supply.

You know the really frightening thing is that this is not the only time that Joe Miller's name has been tied to potentially dangerous pseudo military types.  Justin Elliot of Salon.com wrote about his ties to Alaska militia groups back in September.

"It's safe to say that Joe Miller is a friend of patriots," Norm Olson, commander of the Alaska Citizens Militia, told Salon. "His beliefs and platform favor Second Amendment rights as well as the power of nullification when the federal government intrudes into the private lives of Alaskans."

"The power of nullification?" Does that mean that Joe Miller supports the idea of American citizens taking up arms and getting into a firefight with Federal agents if they believe the government has overstepped its authority?  Sort of like Miller's "security" staff did last night?

(By the way I saw these security guys while i was sitting in the audience.  They all had VERY severe military haircuts, were wearing ill fitting suits, and looked to be in not very good shape.  I counted about four, or perhaps, five of these guys and the one closest to me looked so nervous that at one point I thought he might have been on some sort of stimulant. When he caught me staring in his direction he guilty looked away.  These were NOT guys I would trust to make good decisions.)

I think we are getting a very frightening picture of just WHO Joe Miller is, and what his vision is for the state of Alaska.  And it is a vision that illustrates a combative, perhaps even militarily combative, attitude toward the American government.  Alaska cannot afford to have somebody in office who wants to take on the Federal government with a bunch of poorly trained, heavily armed, overweight men who like to dress up like John Wayne and play in the woods on weekends.

Of course none of this should come as any surprise, especially if you saw the video of his supporters walking in the Eagle River parade back in July of this year.

Could you just imagine THESE guys taking on the Federal government?

Come on Alaska!  Do NOT let this imbecile represent us in Washington for the next six years!

Support Scott McAdams and let's put a guy who is not hoping to start another civil war in charge of our state.  Can we at least manage to do that much?

Update: Alaska Dispatch has a photo gallery of the arrest.

You can clearly see how threatening Tony Hopfinger was to Miller's security.  Gee no wonder his hired thugs felt the need to go all "rent-a-cop" on his ass.

Murkowski unleashes the Big Dog!

Many political observers agree that if Ted Stevens had lived, and campaigned strenuously for Murkowski, that Joe Miller would have had NO chance of winning the Republican nomination.

Miller stands in direct contrast to the man who helped build Alaska's infrastructure by bringing home buckets of federal dollars. And believe me, an endorsement by "Uncle Ted" beats a Sarah Palin endorsement in a Republican primary every time.

However that ship has sailed, and it is VERY unlikely that even if Ted Stevens were to miraculously rise from the dead that it would be enough to help Lisa win this election as a write-in candidate.

Really the only hope Alaskans have of stopping Joe Miller, the teabagger agenda, and Sarah Palin's aspirations, is to vote Scott McAdams.

Friday, October 15, 2010

Hey, I participated in this poll!

Yep I got a call from the robotic voice which conducts the Rasmussen poll who proceeded to ask me a bunch of questions which you can find here, and instead of hanging up the phone and then flipping it the bird like I usually do, I actually took the time to answer all of them because I did not want a bunch of teabagging shut ins to skew the results..

And here are those results: according to TPM:

Miller 35%, Murkowski 34%, and Democratic nominee Scott McAdams 27%. The survey of likely voters has a ±4.5% margin of error. In the previous Rasmussen poll from just under a month ago, Miller had a much stronger lead with 42%, Murkowski at 27%, and McAdams with 25%.

So in less than a month McAdams has gained two percentage points, Murkowsi gained seven, and Miller lost seven.  I am not at all convinced that, since she is a write in candidate, the poll is able to accurately determine Murkowski's percentage of support, but I am fairly positive it is accurately tracking Miller's death spiral.

So with two weeks still to go, it looks like this race could be won by any one of the three candidates.  If Murkowski wins it will automatically go to a hand count, but if this thing stays this close until November 2nd I think a hand count might be unavoidable. Which, by the way, would be just about the ONLY way I would trust the outcome.

My friend Mel has determined that, without a doubt, Scott McAdams is THE choice of candidate for the LGBT community in Alaska.

From Henkima:

Yesterday I attended the Alaska Pride Conference, an annual event sponsored by Identity, Inc. My main reason for attending this year came out of my involvement with the Alaska LGBT Community Survey; but I also got the opportunity to hear firsthand from two of the candidates for U.S. Senate, Frederick David Haase of the Alaska Libertarian Party and Scott McAdams of the Alaska Democratic Party. Conference organizers invited all U.S. Senate candidates, but neither Republican Party of Alaska candidate — official candidate Joe Miller and incumbent and write-in candidate Sen. Lisa Murkowski — accepted the invitation.

Which fit in pretty well with what has become obvious: Republican officials and candidates care little about the the issues of concern to lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender citizens. Whereas Democrats, despite sometimes spotty records, do. Thus, this year’s Pride march in Anchorage saw the enthusiastic participation of two Democratic gubernatorial candidates (Hollis French and eventual primary winner Ethan Berkowitz) and Democratic lieutenant governor candidate Diane Benson… but nary a Republican candidate was to be seen. (No Libertarians that I can recall, either.)

Mel describes listening to the presentation by the Libertarian candidate, Fred Haase, before having her heart stolen by Scott McAdams.

One that especially stood out for me. One audience member noted that the U.S. has the highest incarceration rate in the world — what does McAdams think we should we do about it? McAdams’ answer: invest more in early childhood education as well as drug treatment for drug/alcohol-involved offenders. His answer squares completely with all I’ve learned over 20 years at the UAA Justice Center creating I don’t know how many tables & charts on the U.S.’s ever-expanding correctional populations — increased largely fueled since the mid-1980s by the Reagan-initiated “War on Drugs.” Simultaneously, we’ve been failing our teachers and educational system &, ultimately, our children, letting too many of them instead grow up into lives of desperation in which they turn to alcohol, drugs, and crime. I’ve long since concluded that many Americans would rather spend large chunks of state & federal budgets on putting people in prison, than by paying more than simple lip service to the importance of children by fully funding schools and otherwise helping children develop skills & self-confidence & providing them with opportunities so that they don’t turn to — guess what — drugs, alcohol, & crime. And helping people who do get mixed up with drugs & alcohol to throw off their addictions before they go too far. When McAdams said what he said, I knew he understood this too. His answers also fit with with what justice practitioners are increasingly saying & trying to convince lawmakers to permit them to do — including the Alaska Court System with its increasing use of drug and alcohol and other therapeutic courts.

What sealed it for me was when McAdams said “Sovereignty begins with the individual. Freedom begins with the individual.” Most LGBT people spend a good part of their lives fending off the violative behavior of those who insist that we are supposed to be something other than who and what we are: attacking our sovereignty and freedom at our very cores. When McAdams said that, I knew that he & I see eye-to-eye: & that he respects, in a way I’ve seldom seen expressed by any non-LGBT political candidate, the integrity of who we are as lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people.

So there you have it.  The more that people actually get to meet and listen to Scott McAdams, the more they are adamant in their support for his campaign.

Hey to be honest I was one of those that was lukewarm on his candidacy as well.  But after I went and saw him a couple of times and watched him speak, and felt saw how genuine the guy is, the more determined I became that THIS GUY is the best person to represent us in Washington D.C.. Without a doubt.

Please go over and read the rest of Mel's post.  She does a very good job of describing why he is the ONLY choice for the LGBT community.

Scott McAdams on Moore Up North.

Part 1 of Shannyn's interview with the Democratic candidate for the Senate: McAdams discusses how he decided to toss his hat into the ring.

Part Two: Scott McAdams may be the FIRST Alaskan politician who is really serious and knowledgeable about renewable energy.

Part Three: McAdams takes questions from the audience.

(Look to around the 9:00 mark on this video for one of the best defenses of the health care bill that we have heard for some time from a Democrat.  Scott demonstrates his backbone by refusing to run from the bill, and instead digs in to defend it.  Now THAT is my kind of Democrat!

You know one of the selling points that are used to shove the horribly unqualified Teabagger candidates down the voter's throats is that they are new and untainted by Washington politics.  Well Scott McAdams is also new and untainted by Washington politics. However he is also a man of obvious integrity who has NOT attempted to define himself as the exact opposite of what his history proves him to be.  Unlike everybody's favorite hypocrite Joe Miller.

And he is also not somebody who has sold their very soul to the big oil companies like Lisa Murkowski has either.

Scott McAdams is, in a very real way, EXACTLY what voters who are looking for change in Washington should be attracted to.  He owes NOTHING to big corporations, has a vision for tackling our energy needs (that does NOT have to be written on his palm!), and has a very real understanding of what the needs of Alaskans are in this state.  And not just the Alaskans who live in Anchorage either!

So look if you are one of the poor unfortunates who was tricked into voting for Joe Miller because you had NO idea how full of shit he was, then you can easily rectify that mistake by casting a vote for the candidate who is looking to the future, and NOT trying to drag us back to the past.

Go ahead and go wild! Vote for Scott McAdams.  I won't tell your conservative friends if you don't!

P.S. The very first segment in Shannyn's show laid out why it is virtually impossible for Lisa Murkowski to win as a write in candidate.  If you are still thinking of voting for Lisa then click here and see why that would be a waste of your vote.

Scott McAdams decides to take the fight to BOTH Joe Miller and Lisa Murkowski.

In the video below McAdams pledges to protect Social Security for Alaska's seniors.  Joe Miller has threatened to work to do away with the program altogether for future generations.

Essentially McAdams is reminding the elderly and middle aged white folks that make up the majority of the Teabaggers that HE is actually working to protect their benefits while Miller is simply using their fear of change to milk them for their votes.

However McAdams did not forget that he has two opponents battling him for the Senate seat.

The McAdams campaign has also started a website called "Lisa's votes" which reminds Alaska voters how often Lisa has voted against THEIR best interests in favor of kissing up to her corporate masters.

Just a few examples of Murkowski’s no votes include:

$10 million for health clinics, hospitals and social service facilities in rural Alaska through the Denali Commission in the Fiscal Year 2011 Labor – HHS Appropriations bill (Appropriations Committee vote on July 29, 2010).

$1 million for the Port of Anchorage in the Fiscal Year 2011 Transportation-HUD Appropriations bill ( Appropriations Committee Vote on July 22, 2010).

$500,000 for Covenant House in the Fiscal Year 2011 Transportation-HUD Appropriations bill ( Appropriations Committee Vote on July 22, 2010).

$3 million for river bank stabilization in Bethel in the Fiscal Year 2011 Energy and Water Appropriations bill (Appropriations Committee Vote on July 22, 2010).

$500,000 for the Alaska Medicare Clinic in the Fiscal Year 2011 Labor-HHS Appropriation bill (Appropriations Committee Vote on July 29, 2010).

And $24 million and $36 million respectively for upgrades at Eielson and Elmendorf Air Force Bases in the Fiscal Year 2011 Military Construction and Veterans Affairs Appropriations Committee (Appropriations Committee vote on July 15, 2010).

Miller is a right wing nut-ball and Murkowski is an unabashed corporate whore, so all McAdams has to do to be the more attractive choice is to keep letting the voters know that he is not owned by a giant corporation and that he does not want to take the country back to the mid-seventeen hundreds. Sounds simply doesn't it?

Yeah I know that he is fighting an uphill battle but when have progressives in Alaska NOT been the underdog?

Lisa Murkowski calls Teabagger ads "vile."

From the ADN:
The California-based political action group, which reported spending more than $550,000 on the bare-knuckle ads that helped Joe Miller stun Murkowski during the August primary, will spend another "six figures" on Alaska's Senate race for the Nov. 2 general election, chairwoman Amy Kremer told reporters.

"We're here to let Lisa Murkowski know that 'no' means 'no,' " Kremer said Monday morning as the Tea Party Express unveiled two new TV commercials.

One spot cheers Miller's military background. The other goes after Murkowski, telling voters she was appointed to office by her "daddy" -- complete with an image of a red bow on a Senate seat -- and painting the seven-year incumbent as manipulative and self-interested.

The Murkowski camp swung back in the afternoon with a statement saying the commercials are "littered with lies" and calling on Alaska broadcasters to pull them before they hit the airwaves. The ads should be placed on hold until claims are verified, the campaign said.

"Alaskans deserve a better political discourse than this," said Murkowski. "This ad is vile."

Apparently Murkowski is more than a little pissy over ads like this one:

I don't know about the rest of you, but watching the Republicans going toe to toe with the Frankenstein monsters of their own creation kind of gives me the warm fuzzies.

Hey do you know who ISN'T involved in a preschool pissing match?  Yep you got it!

The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee finally wakes up to the fact that they have a great candidate in Scott McAdams.

From UAF Sun Star:

As of Thursday afternoon, Sept. 30, Democrat Scott McAdams was the only Alaskan senatorial candidate in possession of a war chest built entirely upon the generosity of Alaskan voters. That fact changed Thursday night when McAdams received a check from the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC).

According to a Sept. 30 article by the Alaska Dispatch, both of McAdams’ opponents had received funding from sources outside of the state of Alaska. GOP primary victor Joe Miller received close to $600,000 from the California-based Tea Party Express, while incumbent write-in candidate Lisa Murkowski received over $177,000 from various energy-based Political Action Committees (PAC), primarily from the coal industry.

Friday morning, McAdams made a statement saying, “The DSCC has invested in our campaign.” How much? “Their first check was for $42,000,” he said, implying that more is yet to come.

Well it is about damn time!

Of all of the potential races out there I cannot imagine why the DSCC is NOT throwing handfuls of money at this candidate. He is smart, capable, and extremely likable, and he is up against two candidates who are the very example of what is wrong with the modern Republican party.

In my opinion this $42,000 is an embarrassingly tiny amount and I certainly hope that the DSCC loosens those purse strings and gives McAdams the kind of money he needs to have a real shot against two campaigns with hundreds of thousands of dollars at their disposal.

I don't know about other Alaskans but I cannot go anywhere on the internet these days without running into a Joe Miller Google ad. THAT is the kind of saturation that McAdams needs as well.
