From Disability Scoop:
President Barack Obama signed legislation Tuesday requiring the federal government to replace the term “mental retardation” with “intellectual disability” in many areas of government.
The measure known as Rosa’s Law was approved unanimously by Congress before receiving the go-ahead from the president with little fanfare this week.
Under the law, “mental retardation” and “mentally retarded” will be stripped from federal health, education and labor policy. “Intellectual disability” and “individual with an intellectual disability” will be inserted in their place. The rights of individuals with disabilities will remain the same.
Now unless Sarah Palin is an INCREDIBLE hypocrite, and of course her followers just know she is anything but, then she has to come out and say something positive about this legislation that President Obama just signed today.
I mean if Palin is going to spew venom via Facebook attacking Rahm Emanuel for simply calling an IDEA "retarded," then doesn't she sort of HAVE to come out and applaud President Obama for stripping the word out of the lexicon used by the Federal government? Well of course she does.
Let's all watch her Twitter and Facebook pages today for the kind words that are surely coming the President's way.
(BTW this does not mean I have to stop calling Sarah Palin retarded does it? Because THAT just seems un-American to me.)
I would combine the two and say she is "intellectually retarded".
ReplyDeleteNo not at all Gryphon! If you had to stop calling her retarded, that would be an infringement on your right of free speach!! :-)
ReplyDeleteHahahahahahahahaha! Good post, Gryphen!! You make excellent points! You won't mind if I don't hold my breath will you?
ReplyDeleteNot a chance. Best bet is that she has no response. But if she or RAM weigh in you can bet the ranch that there will be some reference to Rahm's remark. Probably not a direct reference but enough snark to leave no doubt. And somehow she will be a victim before the post is finished. (I'm scaring myself that I know her so well.)
ReplyDeleteShe won't tweet anything. She doesn't really care about the intellectually disabled. No one will tell you that faster than a parent of a DS child. They see right through her. And they know she turned down requests to work with their special groups.
ReplyDeleteOh Gawd, Griff! That photo!! It is teh scary awesome!
ReplyDeleteOh, and PS, I'm not holding my breath. No, I fully expect Miz Crazy either to criticize Obama, or to take credit for his actions on this matter.
ReplyDeleteShe'll maybe do it in a backhanded or snarky, typically mean, bitchy way, so as to cancel out any positive statement in the end. Guaranteed.
ReplyDeleteThe bitch doesn't have the class it would take to say something nice. Don't waste time waiting on her tweets.
ReplyDeleteWishing there was a law about withholding early intervention therapy from a DS child.
ReplyDeleteThat picture is "awesome" as the intellectually void retard would say.
ReplyDeleteI don't think she will say or tweet anything.
She's so into LYING that it will now be quite difficult for her to utter something truthful.
ReplyDeleteI had this imaginary dialogue run through my mind, for no reason I can think of...
"Excuse me, Ms. Palin, but you do know that there is NOT any mention of federally funded abortions, in the Healthcare Reform Act, right?"
"Oh, I'm sure there ARE!"
"Hmmnnn...no. I've read it through several times, also looking for any reference to your claim of there being what you called 'Death Panels.'
Have YOU read the actual Act itself?"
{Getting angry} "Of course I have. Well, maybe not ALL of it, but I'm sure that stuff is in there...just like I know that in the Bible, in the Book of Revolutions, somewhere, is how Jesus tells us to hate homosexuals, prostitutes, Muslims, Mexicans, Harvard graduates, and other New Yorkers and Hollywood types. Plain and simple."
Blechh!Blechh!Blechh!
ReplyDeleteI took the bait and went to the FB and Twit links. Now I have chills down my spine and a nauseated tummy.
As for the mad props to the president...crickets.
Funny, this does seem to leave the door wide open to use the word retarded in all is pejorative implications.
ReplyDeleteAs well, of course as non pejorative implications of a perfectly acceptable English word, kind of like gay not to mention queer which were perfectly acceptable words when I was growing up.
These PC laws are retarded.
ReplyDeleteFinally - a phrase that suits Sarah herself: intellectually disabled.
ReplyDeleteOf course, in her case, it is willful disablement, but hey, no one can argue she isn't intellectually deficit.
I could go with intellectually disabled but i favor intellectually bereft.
ReplyDeleteC4P has put up Sarah's full speech at the Faulkner University dinner. It is long and rambling but does contain a few interesting tid bits and shows just why she doesn't like to have the MSM record these events.

ReplyDeleteAMEN!!! Actually Wisconsin, at least used to, has a crippled child law. When my brother was born (1947) with a disability, a state social worker followed his progress. If my parents had been unable to pay, the state would have. Today, the schools/agencies have to provide services. All Sarah had to do was call and have her child available.
I expect her to claim it is due to her leading the charge against using the long accepted term "retarded" that the White House gave in to the pressure of "real" Americans and was forced to comply with legislation.
ReplyDelete(and I also accept donations!)
I wish you would stick with real photos of Mrs. Palin instead of photoshopped jokes. The real ones are bad enough.
ReplyDeleteWill this mean that we can use the R word again?
ReplyDeleteOMG!! You mean that WAS Photoshopped? A-r-r-r-g-g-h-h! Except for the drool, the rest of the face is spot on!!
ReplyDeleteThis might be a perfect example of that evil government getting into our faces and limiting our freedom of speech by telling us what we can and can't say. She'll make it about one of her anti-Democratic talking points, not about disabled people.
ReplyDeleteI hope you do not stop using the word because she is retarded.
ReplyDeleteThe only way she will mention it is if she takes credit for it, i.e.
ReplyDelete"See what I made Obama do?"
Then back to blabbing about Rahn's correct usage of "retarded" (when referring to IDEAS) and how SHE led the way for this big idea, because SHE is THE advocate for special needs children.
PUKE.
It sounds like we can still refer to Sarah and her entire family as retarded. Everybody agree? Okay, we all agreed.
ReplyDeleteSarah Palin is fucking retarded.
ReplyDeleteMy definition of a retard is someone who can but won't. That's the Grifter Queen in a nutshell isn't it.
ReplyDeleteThe only one in that family that I consider decent is the little Trig. The rest of the Clampetts are willfully ignorant and you can't fix that kind of stupid.
God bless that little boy and I hope he has a better chance than the rest of the kids did.
sarah palin is retarded. emotionally and intellectually retarded. does this new rule mean I have to refer to her retardation in some other way?
ReplyDeleteSarah is sofa king we Todd did.
ReplyDeleteI have to agree with Eunice that PC laws are very retarded.
ReplyDeleteIt's not the word that is offensive, it's how people choose to perceive it. No matter how you cut it, there are people who have mental disabilities. People with stunted mental development have families and I would guess most of their families care about them, it's only natural. They don't want people to see their family members as "different" from anyone else, but in reality they are different. And no matter what word you use to describe them, they will always be different. And that fact will mean that whatever word you prescribe to describe them will eventually become offensive to some. Especially if it is used to denigrate someone who is more along the normal line of intelligence. Then you have to change the word again, so what is the point. As has been pointed out before, it doesn't matter what color lipstick you put on a pig, it is still a pig. No matter what name you assign to mentally disabled people, they will still be mentally disabled. Until that fact changes, whatever you call them will eventually be offensive.
Unless you choose to take it un-offensively. In reality, by being offended, you aren't saying that the word is offensive as much as you are saying that the condition these people suffer is offensive, and by extension so are these people. It's the same reason we have gone from African, to negro, to black, to people of color, to African American to describe people of African descent. The words aren't offensive in and of themselves, what's offensive is the way some people perceive people of another color. If you don't like someone, whatever you call them will eventually become a slur.
Rick
Palin will not give any credit or any acknoweldgement to Obama. Her pattern is to claim credit for what others do while also lying they did not do what they did. then she will assignate the same person pronouncing them a liar. She will also lie that the lamestream media lies or is "makin' stuff up".
ReplyDeleteAKa projection, disordering personalities and identy theft. Heck, Palin may tell people Obama is behind the people who use the wod "retarded" and he'll receive more deash threats. Palin "wins" and Obama "loses". That is her game and she is a master of her games. She has been doing it mosst of her life.
Unfortunately, she will probably not acknowledge it. I say unfortunate, because as she has anointed herself as a leading representative for parents of an intellectually disabled child, it would be wonderful to address this as a step forward in our ongoing societal relationships. Given the events of the past week or so, regarding the rash of teen suicides...would be nice to see this moment of humanity bring us closer together. I think a lot of us are desperately searching for any glimmer of brotherhood these days...
ReplyDeleteBut, she's painted herself into a corner. If she were to give the President any props (on anything), her base would probably freak out a little.
Tsk, tsk. It's the problem of having a loyal following of bigoted hatred. To give our enlightened President one shred of approval...omg...the shells that protect those putrid masses of pulp that they call brains would instantly cave in.
And there goes her livelihood.
Yeah, not gonna happen. It's actually kinda sad when you think about it.
OT: what do you think the ramifications would be if Christine O'Donnell, Sharron Angle and Joe Miller lost their election races?
ReplyDeleteAnd, as it stands today it looks like, let's say from an outsider's standpoint (for shits and giggles):
Christine: L
Sharron: L
Joe: ?
Christine's toast. (albeit a meatball-lovin', job-evadin', griftin' witchy kind of toast)
Sharron should be toast. Even NV Repukes are backing Harry now.
So...that leaves us with Joe, guys. C'mon! A smug hypocrite that doesn't give a shit about you or your state. He's just looking for a good gig (like the rest of these baggers). The choices that us lower-48ers see: Lisa (hey, at least you keep your seniority and the perks that go along with that) or Scott (a genuine guy that seems to want to help build a path to a real future into the 21st century).
Bury Joe. And you can put the kibosh on Twitler at the same time.
She's too intellectually disabled to write her own FB entries.
ReplyDeleteOk waiting for twitter and facebook...
ReplyDeleteCrickets.
All I got it crickets.
I remember getting angry that the Muslim world did not rebuke their fellows in their religion, for their sinful acts in the 9-11 tragedy.
ReplyDeleteLately, I'm also outraged that people who otherwise SEEM semi-normal, but who are Republicans, have not had a bellyfull of the batshit crazy element taking over the entire "conservative" movement.
Well, FINALLY, I'm starting to hear that there ARE a few around, who are speaking out against the crew of hateful miscreants posing as rightwing candidates.
Some even admitting they will be reluctantly voting for people they hate, like Harry Reid, rather than chance having someone as certifiably insane as Sharron Angle, make the Senate look like a mental institution, instead of what is supposed to be the collection of experienced, learned diplomats the freaking thing was intended to be.

:o) -- Very clever!!! I like that, and fully agree with you. It took me a couple of seconds to figure what you were saying, but then it finally hit, and I was LOL.

"I remember getting angry that the Muslim world did not rebuke their fellows in their religion, for their sinful acts in the 9-11 tragedy."
ReplyDeleteI am still angry that Americans did nothing to rebuke their Senate and Congress for their sinful acts of attacking countries that never harmed us.
She'll give props to Obama when hell freezes over.
ReplyDeleteIt's not in her to give credit to the president for anything. After all, she is still smarting from the defeat she and McCain suffered in 2008. Besides, for some reason, she doesn't use Trig anymore for political prop value. If she had really been concerned about the cause for the developmentally disabled, she would have been actively involved in highlighting educational opportunities for people afflicted in this manner. People who ARE actively involved in improving the quality of life for the intellectually disabled see her exactly for the fraud she is.
