Did PBS censor Tina Fey's less than flattering remarks about Sarah Palin? You betcha!

From the Washington Post:

Fey, this year's recipient of the prize, caused a few ripples during her acceptance speech at the ceremony on Tuesday when she mock-praised "conservative women" like Sarah Palin, whom Fey has so memorably impersonated on "Saturday Night Live."

"And, you know, politics aside, the success of Sarah Palin and women like her is good for all women - except, of course --those who will end up, you know, like, paying for their own rape 'kit 'n' stuff," Fey said. "But for everybody else, it's a win-win. Unless you're a gay woman who wants to marry your partner of 20 years - whatever. But for most women, the success of conservative women is good for all of us. Unless you believe in evolution. You know - actually, I take it back. The whole thing's a disaster."

But that's not what viewers heard when PBS and WETA (channel 26) broadcast an edited version of Fey's speech on Sunday.

The part about rape kits and evolution was gone, leaving only Fey's more harmonious -- and blander -- comments about Palin and politics: "I would be a liar and an idiot if I didn't thank Sarah Palin for helping get me here tonight. My partial resemblance and her crazy voice are the two luckiest things that ever happened to me. All kidding aside, I'm so proud to represent American humor, I am proud to be an American, and I am proud to make my home in the 'not real' America. And I am most proud that during trying times, like an orange [terror] alert, a bad economy or a contentious election that we as a nation retain our sense of humor."

Was PBS shielding its viewers from Fey's more pointed remarks?

The official reason given was that the producers were simply trimming the program in the interest of time, and I hope that is true.

However considering the influence that Palin and her followers have demonstrated in keeping a clearly outmatched Bristol Palin on DWTS, in driving the god awful SPA to the top of the ratings on TLC, and in punishing ANYONE who criticizes Sarah or her brood, I think we can be forgiven for wondering if perhaps they did not have some influence here as well.

After all it is becoming almost impossible to view ANYTHING the Palins touch as untainted. And Sarah has nobody but HERSELF to blame for that.

Well happily they are completely impotent when it comes to controlling the information put out on THIS blog, so without further ado you can see all of Tina Fey's remarks, rape kit and evolution slam included, in the video below. (Palin portion starts at 12:30 in the video. However the whole thing is certainly worth the time to watch.)

    The Award Show was great!

Tina body slammed Sarah with several comments.

My husband watched the last half of the show. We did actually hear the rape kit remark, but wondered why there seemed to be an abrupt cut. Thanks for explaining what happened. We'd simply thought there had been a glitch in transmission.

PBS needs to grow a spine and understand that comedy, particularly satire and sarcasm, needs more leeway than uptight, PC censors might allow.

Everyone's afraid of Sarah! When is someone finally going to put her in her place??

That was not PBS censoring Tina Fey!

    That was gawd.

gawd works in mysterious ways-so that was entirely coincidental that the material there was no time for was the material that was least favorable to dearleaderwannabe.

    A blessing indeed.

In the image below, you can tell that Sarah is doing her best to put on a "good natured" face and look like she can roll with a little humor, but you just KNOW she is absolutely fuming inside.

    http://pophangover.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/10/palin-snl.jpg

Thank you, Tina Fey. You are one of the few who has been able to expose the real Sarah Palin, and many took notice. What you have done will stick with her as long as she remains in the spotlight ... And you didn't even need to do anything more than mirror her back to herself to create comedy -- she is a living joke already, so simply mimicking her was all that it took.

Sarah, you represent all that is wrong with popular culture, politics, greed, and self-absorption. Any fool can manipulate the gullible, but you will never fool the majority of America. You know in your heart that you're a fraud. You know that there is something fundamentally missing in yourself as a person inside.

Having said that, please run for President in 2012. You will then have no choice by to face an epic battle with your own demons, and those demons will most certainly consume you and win the fight.

I'm sure they were only editing for time restraints.

Now that we are up to date with the Golden Child I can't wait until someone masters doing her.

Golden Child: A person amongst a populace who everyone seems to love no matter what. The admiration for this person spans multiple factions amongst this populace, including those who normally do not agree on anything otherwise. This person is always thought of as a staple of the populace and even thought this persons presence was never constant they are remembered as if they were always present. This person is always remembered for the good contributions they made even above others who have strived to contribute even more.

Did PBS censor Tina Fay? Yes.

You forget that George W. Bush & the GOP took over PBS BEFORE 2008. It may not be FAUX news, but fair and unbaised it is not.

  10. Thanks Gryphen- I am glad to know about this. I did watch Tina's speech and I didn't get the full picture. So even here in the blue states (unreal America) it was, indeed, censored. Very interesting!

Still, I am delighted that Tina Fey won this award. Also, too, Katy Couric won that journalism award ... and they both have Quitty Pants to thank for these honors. So the reaction that SP creates is powerful too. As media professionals try to give us an "accurate" picture of SP, they are rewarded!

How's that truth stuff workin' out for ya Grizzly Grifter Granny?....

PBS irked me with this teaser headline which went something like this: "What's Obama's problem?"

LSM is everywhere, when we have PBS scared shitless to take on a horrible woman like Sarah that would take back the [state of women's rights to the 17th Century] country to a place where Fey would be on a blackballed in Hollywood from a humorless Ivory Tower in Washington.

The censorship boomeranged! Kind of glad they did it because now the full strength of Fey's comments are getting more exposure than it might have otherwise.

Way to go PBS censors. Your cuts made the material even more potent and widespread. Hooray!

Two of my deceased father's remarks come to mind when I think of the Palins and their nasty followers:

    "You can't buy class."

    and "You can't shine s**t."

Hollywood and the politico-corporate moneybaggers (behind the tea partiers) are making a mockery of the Palins. The Palins don't see it because either they are too self-enamored, too dim-witted, too desperate, or all of these.

Reminds me of the many fables of the rich trying to buy their way into a refinement that escapes them because refinement and nobility are inborn qualities, not money-born.

The last laugh will be on the Palins when the writers are finshed detailing the Palins' noisy, self-serving, social-climbing while representing ignorance proudly, and providing a text-book guide to the diagnosis: delusions of grandeur.

If I were a Palin family member, or a friend of theirs, I would seek cover and low ground-- and also, too some form of therapy. Once the collective is unleashed against someone it can get very nasty and the Palins with all their dictatorial power-grabbing have set themselves up for a grand enantiodrama--a fall.

** While yet another site admits that Bristol's success on DWTS is the right's way to get back at the left for unfairly giving Tina Fey a Mark Twain Prize for American Humor. (Apparently, there are still some hard feelings over Fey's impersonation of Sarah Palin.) **
    http://jezebel.com/5691445/how-palin-conservatives-are-cheating-the-dwts-voting-system

Tina Fey is a threat to SarahPac and the Tea Party. Of course she must be censored!

Bristol did not help herself by sending the Tea Party warden Ivy Frye home to help with the Miller votes. And featuring Bristol as the poor knocked up angel is hard to buy into also, too. Bristol is vying to be known as a bigger liar than her Mama Grizz. True, April Morlock is not synonymous with Tea Party and Dance Bristol Dance, like Frye. The Palins didn't give April a decent stylist and she came off as a hard as nails chick that just got back from a mud wrestling contest. Lanesia was a sweet bff but Bristol abused that friendship and is sticking it out with the ungroomed macho girl? That says more about Bristol than I want to know.

"Dancing with the Stars," Bristol responded, "I'm going to take Tripp to Disneyland."

Again? Didn't I just see a picture of Tripp at Disneyland? She took him there for one of her abstinent speeches. He looked bored. Does he want to go each time she is proud of herself? Bristol all these gigs are set up by the Tea Party types. You aren't earning anything.

We can at lease commend Tina Fey for doing her homework and knowing about and caring about the untested rape kits.

There are 10's of thousand of such kits around the country that go untested. This is prime evidence of violent crime that is not being used to investigate serious cases. Id'ing serial rapist before the become serial murder rapist is just not worth the effort or money.

We live in a country that still does not consider rape a crime. Even when the victims are tortured and killed.

Maybe instead of hiding an ugly truth PBS should report on this truth and the criminals that are being protected and name the names of states and their Governors that do not fund rape kit testing.

PBS sold out to the Republicans about 15 years ago. I virtually never watch it any more, and it used to be about the only channel I did watch except for football.

  33. Seriously, she's either punking us on the x17 video or she is seriously knockers. The photogs were even laughing when they asked her about the teen mom stuff and then they kept laughing when the elevator doors closed. Seriously it looks like she's 6 months or so, I'm really astounded if this does not go viral and she gets a pass on this. No amount of food in the world gives a young girl a belly like that.

Sorry, off topic for this thread. Watched the Tina speech, loved it, and yes she is a thinking woman's hero. She has Palin down pat and sees through her crap just like the majority of American's that don't drink the tea.

Tell me it isn't true. Chuck Heath had a mistress? She is a rock star type that dreamed of making it on American Idol. Say it isn't so. Is it the father? Doesn't she have a brother named Chuck? Did either of the Chuck's go to bars at any time? It could have been when Sarah was young?
