"Sarah Palin's Alaska" goes to Homer. Now why does that seem familiar?

So I am watching SPA like I always do, through the fingers clasped over my face, when I noticed that Bristol is wearing a re jacket with a camouflage hoodie underneath it.  And I think to myself, where have I seen that strange ensemble before?

And then I remembered.

This is the episode that is supposed to refute the idea of Bristol's diva like behaviors. Now Bristol does get a little more hands on then she did in the preview I posted, but she is still very hesitant to touch the fish or get anything slimy on her.

Which by the way is fine. I think there are a LOT of young women who would have that reaction.  Of course those are young women whose mother is NOT trying to prove to the world that her children are rough, tough experienced Alaska wilderness experts.

Oh and the longer version of the skeet shooting episode did even less to prove that Sarah Palin is comfortable around guns then that brief clip posted before did.

For those of you who watched it, this post can serve as an open thread to share your thoughts and perhaps inform those who could not bring themselves to sit through this hour long political advertisement. (Believe me, I don't blame you one little bit!)

I will be checking the comments and approving them as I prepare to watch "The Walking Dead" on AMC.

  1. One thing I took away from this episode is that SHE NEVER SHUTS UP !!! Another is, once again, Trig gets left behind. Why couldn't he go ? Tripp did.

  2. I tried to watch but couldn't get past the first few minutes. Ugh!

Sarah says that Bristol lands in the tabloids because of someone she 'was associated with'. Yeah! Her MOTHER!

For Pete's sake. Sell pictures to magazines, go on a reality show, become a spokesperson for a national brand, sell engagement announcement, etc, etc. Hello?

Truth is Levi lands in the tabloids because of someone HE was associated with.

AND -Threatening your husband and daughter with giving them 'the bird'? Way to stay classy Sarah! So presidential!

Looking forward to seeing the ratings. Week one, everyone wanted to see the freak show. But after you've seen it once, who needs to see it again?

For the record, we're watching the Giants-Eagles game. And it's a good one.

I agree Gagirly. I thought Tri-G was supposed to be the little 'fish picker,' that they prayed so hard for (while his 'mother' leaked fluid and took a couple of transcontinental flights, ya know.) Why not start him early in plyin' the family trade.

Could it be that his 'mother' might have thought the little 'r*tarded' boy might get in the way of her close-ups? Or that he might yank her wig off or smear her makeup (cuz most rill dill 'merkin women get all gussied up to go fishin' right?)

I am not from Alaska, so maybe my feelings are out of sync with people from your state, but boy, I was really put off by the relish Sarah showed in clubbing and gutting the fish on this show. I know someone has to kill what we eat but she was really ice cold, even gleeful, about taking their lives.

--The show is very popular, 5 million viewers the first week, double that of Mad Men finale (even though Tre didn't seem to care for it)

--Can't believe they are cruising around in that huge bus/rv with all the kids, especially Tripp, not strapped in. Apparently RV seatbelt and carseat laws are sketchy, but who in their right mind thinks this is a good idea!

--I find her to be very fake and the whole family seems to be mugging for the camera, except for Track who is glaringly absent. Can't believe these bozos are getting $250,00 a WEEK for this!

--Seems like the average viewer will probably think they are all adorable and make a note to vote for her if she runs for POTUS

--If she seriously becomes president I will seriously have to move to another country for at least four years. I'm starting to think it could happen, though. It is a very scary thought.

Color me surprised. I thought that disrespectful little shit / Sarah's sidekick BFF was Willow.

If this is Bristle, well then, her Facebook bitch talk to Sadie and others does reflect a vile and nasty gal. So much fir selling this Golden Child, sweet, innocent, shy persona. I wouldn't ever want the Heath/Palin girls to ever babysit my children.

Remember when Sarah would offer knocked up Bris to every Tom Dick and Tina Fey to sit for any reason on the campaign trail?

I am disgusted with myself for watching it but..my first thought was why can they bring Tripp along but not Trig? Didn't make any sense at all. And, not being from Alaska, and and animal lover, I was appalled at the bully clubbing of the halibut. I love when she says, "Rest in Peace" to the fish.
If they are so outdoorsey, why is this the first time they've been to Homer; why is it the first time Bristol's shot a birdie or fished. And then the shot with Palin crying when talking about Trig - that will be the one where she gets everyone's attention. But why are her kids meeting the relative with downs syndrome for the first time?
It's all so phony but she will no doubt steal the hearts of the crazies.

I caught the credits rolling at the end!!! Only did that as I was flipping the remote!

I caught where she was introducing a cousin Matthew, who has DS, to Piper. It appeared to me that she didn't know Matthew either. That brings back the thought of her reference of learning that "she was having a DS baby" and didn't know a DS baby before???? Hmmmmm - A DS child in your family and had never known one.

'Trig could be like Matthew in 10 years'. IMO there is a possibility not unless they have him working with some special needs therapists, etc.

If they have experienced people to work with him, great but I don't think they do. If they continue to drag him along on book tours without meeting his needs -- he could be very difficult to handle as he gets older.

DS children can be high functioning. It can also be very frustrating for them and they can strike out as they don't necessarily know how to cope with everything. I've been on the receiving end in special olympics and it hurt as the kids are strong.

I think my about 2 minutes of the show - that was enough. I'm sure this week there will be various clips playing on shows which can fill in the gaps!!

I have come to the conclusion that Sarah is doing all of these things for the money, period. That's how she has bamboozled her family into cooperating (barely) with all these shenanigans. (Come on, guys, we need the money and we have to strike while the iron's hot!)

No, she they didn't feature the teacher incident; probably didn't want to remind people of the eyeroll and Bristol's obnoxious behavior.

Sarah basically goes on and on about how this trip was for Bristol, to help her regain perspective 'cause of all her tabloid trouble (this summer?), and to help her reconnect to her outdoorsy roots... She says Bristol is an "old soul" - weird talk from a supposed Christian, actually, along with all the usual "Oh Jeez"'s. Says she, Sarah, and Bristol are alike, that they are both "nurturing"! HA

The kids fight in the back of the RV, Todd says nothing, the producers apparently think it's funny to show Sarah doing paper work and BB stuff, barely supervising. The girls are fairly mean to one another, though perhaps typical.

Sarah and Bristol spend mom/daughter time taking a bat to halibuts so they don't flap around and hurt people (?!), and then learning the whole processing sequence, which includes a machine called a guillotine. I eat fish, though, so I can't be hypocritical. Sarah appears to take great pleasure in all of this, Bristol not so much.

One of the main objectives for this series is to show Todd in a leadership role and manly light. She continually comments on his physical prowess and skills. They engage in any number of contests, the two of them - a kayak race, a cooking contest. She says they do this a lot, and "Todd always wins!" WTF? I think they have done focus groups and heard that people feel she emasculates him or something.

Oh yeah, they leave Trig with Todd's parents but they take Tripp who sounds sick to me.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Anonymous8:34 PM

To me the thing that stands out as the Palins not being hunters and gun nuts is that Bristol obviously can't even hold the rifle correctly and does not know to lead the pigeons.

Families that hunt or do target of clay pigeon shooting generally teach their children gun safety at a very early age. If there are guns and ammunition around the house that kind of education is necessary. It also is part of the ethos of being a hunter or gun nut to teach you children to shoot correctly.
Just like parents teach their children to ride a bike, or swim or play baseball, etc.

It makes no snese that a hunt shooting, elk killing, gun loving family's 20 year old daughter can't even put a rifel to her shoulder correctly. In fact she seems incapable of hold the weight of the rifle up at all, and is not using the proper stance to balance the weight or be able to pivot to follow the pigeon. (I bet her shoulder was black and blue be the end of the filming. We even see one bit where she has put the rifle to her left shoulder.)

So Bristol, and probably Sarah is not only not a hunter or marksman but she is apparently a physical whimp. Not exactly the rugged outdoorsy type.

Ya, aren't Todd's parents Tripp's grandparents? If it was better for Trigg to stay, why not both? Or take both, it was just odd.

And her on her Blackberry "working" while the kids pound each other in the back. I thought she had said earlier it was about spending time with her family.

And mysteriously Bristol, Willow and Tripp go missing for the clam digging. Tripp was "not feeling well".

Don't get me started on the "no chin" topic...

    @7:46p.m.,

Just because a little under 5 million people tuned in, doesn't exactly make the show popular. Not everyone watching are fans. A lot of them, like Gryphen, for example, are Lefties looking for a good laugh. Or, just taking one for the team. Even some conservatives who did watch it, didn't like it. I read somewhere Sponge Bob Square Pants beat out SPA. And of course, it was the premier.

$arah Palin can't become president if she can't expand her base beyond the Tea Party. Palin has managed to alienate pretty much everyone but the far-right. Which is one of the reasons she is so unpopular.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Anonymous9:00 PM

People have remarked that Bristol, filmed during the summer, looks much thinner than she does now. Maybe Gryphen will be so kind as to do a screen grab from the show to compare with a Dancing with the Stars shot. It's hard to believe that with all that dancing and exercise, Bristol has gained so much weight.

As for Bristol being in the tabloids because of someone she was associated with. It think that Bristol was in the tabloids because her mother arranged for her to cash in on being an unwed teen mother preaching abstinence. If you don't appear on the cover of People Magazine in cap and gown, holding your diploma and baby at the same time, you don't get put in the tabloids unless you're looking for cheesy publicity.

  32. I agree with the commenter at 8:34 pm.

I hunted with my Dad - deer and birds. I passed my gun safety test at age 12 (7th grade). I got my first hunting dog that Xmas.

I don't remember if my sisters did took the gun safety course because I was older and always trekked with Dad & his friends. I still have his deerskin coat and other hides from hunting. Hunting birds in the grain fields of Eastern Washington was the basis of my great dog skills and ability to cook game so it is very tasty - not 'gamey' to eat.

I didn't watch the show - I guess I would be calling BS if I did.

I also shot black powder pistols with my first husband. I am a dead-eye first shot. I don't have guns now - though I still remember a lot about them. Damn, I miss my Dad - he died in my arms last February at the ripe old age of 86. What a man. RIP.

Freeper, watching her show is not making the woman a star. How could she possibly be any more famous than she already is? She is in our face pretty much 24/7 because the "lamestream media" loves to put her on TV and quote her and write about her. So much for the liberal media, huh - you guys can thank them for all that exposure!

What you might need to face, however, is the cold truth that now much of what is said about her is not positive. Now when she's talked about, written about, and most of all, when she herself speaks - about anything at all - she looks foolish and unqualified. She is just a celebrity in most people's minds, sorry.

When Barbara Bush is going on TV and saying she should stay up in Alaska, you've got trouble. If the GOP doesn't want her, you guys aren't ever going to see her on a ticket. She's yesterday's news. She had her chance and she blew it. This ridiculous show only reinforces everyone's negative opinion of her, and there are more of us than there are of you and your "just under 5 million", half of whom probably hate her.

    ReplyDelete
  35. @9:02pm - I agree the only reason she is famous is because people such as myself can't stop watching the train wreck. Not sure anyone would call me a Liberal, however, I do not watch TLC or SPA and have decided not to watch DWTS anymore.

That is so sad, because I enjoy watching ballroom dancing; my favorite movie of all time is "Strictly Ballroom." I like "Shall We Dance," and others, as well as many of the old movies, especially with Cyd Charisse, Fred & Ginger, and more. "Dirty Dancing" and the more current dance movies have entertained me countless times.

Bristol cannot take that away from me even if DWTS is a lost cause.

Sadly, though I watched $arah Palin perform many unethical acts during her tenure as governor, and get away with many of them (not all) her behavior since she's been out there prostituting herself and family for the almighty buck, has been worse than what she connived as the WGE.

    I am appalled with her.
You may think she's godly, yet I remember scripture says you cannot serve both god and money. It is very clear that the Palins serve money as their god.

Okay, I tried it again. I watched about 5-6 minutes of this "show" in order to re-inforce my previous opinion. Yes, it did. Sarah Palin is a joke, and she does indeed speak a version of Todd's indigenous dialect. What so many people think is a "folksy" all-American accent is very familiar to those of us who grew up around Native Americans of some type. For a christian woman, she has no respect for her husband, her kids have NO respect for her, and she ignores her special child, which lends a lot of credibility to the idea he isn't really hers and she has NO emotional attachment.

I am ashamed of myself, but I watched the show, mainly to confirm that it was indeed Bristol in the Worst Governor Ever Video, and to see how much thinner she was.Bristol only had one chin! One thing to note the show comes on at 9:00 pm eastern here in my time zone, then repeats again at 11:00, so each viewing of the show may get only 2-3 million viewers at a time, which is very low. He, he, it sandwiches the show that has the freak with four wives, sweet.

I do note, that this family owns more hoodies than a track team, and that camo one Bristol sports so often at dancing practice is the same one she wore to de-slime fish. That thing is going to get up and walk back to Alaska on it's own. You would think with all their money the Palins could buy some decent clothes.

I missed the first few minutes so I didn't hear what Sarah said about Bristol being in the tabloids, but I guess she also conveniently left out that Bristol willingly posed and got paid $100K, huh?

I also wondered why take Tripp and not Trig, that Willow is 16 and fights with her sister like she's 9, and Sarah never shuts up. When she says something like, why can't we be happy with peace and tranquilllliityyyy in that voice, yow want to scratch your eyes out. Sarah says everything in her family is a competition, even who cooks the best food after catching halibut.

Also too, the RV? That thing is not an RV is is a super deluxe tour bus, the likes of which only A list celebrities use. It has got to be a few hundred thousand dollars, but they're just regular folks, riiiiight.

I want TLC to be cringing as the ratings tank over the weeks and other media outlets start to question Palin's ability to bring in money for their networks. Only when this happens will she stop getting all this constant attention.

@hannah, as a First Nations member, I have to respectfully disagree with you about Todd and Sarah Palins' dialect being relatable to a native dialect. Todd is only 1/8 Yu'pik, right? So why would he have a dialect related to being Native? When did he grow up on a reservation? And why would Sarah, who was born in Sandpoint, Idaho (or Canada, depending on who one believes in the comments on this blog) and is white, have the same dialect?

Todd and Sarah met in high school, when their language skills were already formed and cemented.

They speak the way they do because they are uneducated militia folks. They speak militia.

As we've all been reading far too many places on crap about the Palins, I forget where I read it, but someone did a costing of the first episode events. That 'we're just like you' -- NOT.

The costing out was for the plane taxi rides & fishing
    The climb up the mountain
And whatever other things they did.

The person writing the article contacted various companies to find out and the total expense would have been over $12,000. Like $1,000 each for the taxi/fishing and about the same for the climb.

Todd grew up in the Valley, and if you listen to Sarah speak in all her mayoral interviews - though she was still one run-on nonsensical sentence, she was monotone and quiet. None of this weird intonation and inflections that reared its head she's contrived to push a folksy inflection into her verbiage to appeal to just who exactly? Remains to be seen.

Flyover country won't win her a general election, but it sure rakes in the dough.

I feel weird now that I know the Palins RV is almost identical to my family's. in EVERY way. it looked kind of narrow though. and the driver's seat console doesn't exist in mine. My parents paid 175000 for theirs brand new

Technically Sarah didn't say Bristol was nurtuing like herself. She said Bristol is the nurturing and organized one, then added she's alittle bit like me. separate thought

WIllow does have a speech impediment. She spoke the same way on Barbara Walters. It's that common problem with the letter R. Not that bad, but subtly there

and btw girls, you both absolutely do resemble each other.

From reading the comments on $arah's show (I would never watch), it occurs to me that the name should be changed to "$arah Sees Alaska." It sounds like she is seeing and doing things there for the first time. I bet Joe McGinnis knows more about Alaska than $arah does.

Just saw "The Dish" from Saturday, in which the host, witty Danielle Fishel, makes hilarious fun of both Bristol on DWTS and Sarah on SPA. Try to revcord this 30 minute show when it re-broadcasts this week, if you can!

Any possibility we can get Sarah and Dick Cheney on a hunting trip?

I watched last night because I lived up in Ak for many years and always want to see more of her (Alaska), but alas it's about Scarah not Alaska.
I finally figured out what get's on my nerves about Scarah.
If someone tells her something, she Immediately repeats it as she has know it as a lifelong fact and is an expert. Such a know it all.
It was nice to see that Scarah finally made it into a Kayak. I say finally because seeing the first part of that clip, I could tell that she had NEVER held a paddle in her LIFE!
We always shot the Halibut, but i suppose that would have been a little dangerous considering how Scarah and Bristle handle a weapon.
At the end of the show, I actually yelled at my TV set "Jeez... Just shut the fuck up!!" at Scarah. She was non-stop!

  65. Thanks, 10:16 Anon.

I'm not even trying to be a FR parody, you know? Not smart enough to do that. I'm just happy to know the idiots come to my blog. Misspelling your blog's name will get you a lot of Republican visitors...

On the down side, every once in a while I find out I got blocked by a trigger-happy Liberal who blocked before s/he read my tweets. Ah well, as long as @Shoq and @Vdaze like me...
