Lawrence O'Donnell makes impassioned plea on behalf of the children of Malawi.

I watched this as I ate my dinner last night, and I was riveted.

I had a bunch of things to do after I finished my meal but I was unable to walk away from the television until I saw the conclusion of O'Donnell's piece.

And yes I sent money.

Now this post is not about Sarah Palin, but I was unable to resist comparing this amazing, heartfelt request for help with the fraudulent emotionally vacant way the Palin expressed herself during her visit to Haiti.

Lawrence O'Donnell's humanity and humility came through loud and clear with every word that he spoke.  He never seemed to be bragging about his generosity, or using guilt to motivate mine, and in the end I could not get my wallet out fast enough.

If this touched you as much as it did me, you can help as well by clicking here and giving as little as $24, or more if you can,  to help these kids.

Thank you for posting this. I missed it last night. I too sent money. It's important when so little can do so much.

With Palin's so-called journalism degree, she does not understand how to tell a story - both with the Haiti video and her reality show. She preaches to the audience instead of showing. Anyone with her degree should have learned the difference.

Thanks for sharing this video. Incredible story. I had already donated to the charities of my choice - but I can squeak out $24 for this cause.

My only wish was that I had had the time for a coffee before I had heard this ditz. Waking up to hear this uncaffeinated - not a way to start the day!!

I did the same Gryph! As soon as he gave the information on how to donate, I went there & donated. It is such a worthwhile cause. I love Lawrence! He truly cares, like Keith & Rachel. I'm a sucker for any cause they're championing.

  8. I too was moved by Lawrence's story. Right now, I am sitting on the floor, trying to write this on my laptop. In a few short minutes, I am in pain. Those children, trying so hard to get an education and their real joy at receiving desks, was a wonderful story for this time of year. My respect and love for Lawrence O'Donnell grows daily. (Now, I've got to go sit in a chair at a desk.)

Thank you for posting that video. Spouse and I watched that together and immediately turned to each other and said "Let's Do I". So we bought a desk in Malawi, and I think it's the best Christmas present we're giving each other this year.

Gryphen, who could ignore Palin's impassioned plea for American's to recognize the joy and smiles on the faces of cholera-stricken women and children of Haiti? You are such an elitist.

In an interview with Bill O’Reilly last night (12/15/10), Bill asked about Krauthammer's critique of Palin.

He quite seriously questioned her gravitas and Palin offered nothing of substance in response.

O’Reilly said to Palin, “(Krauthammer was) not quite convinced that the outside activities that you’re engaging in would help you if you do decide to run for president. Does Krauthammer have a point?”

She sneered: “Well, bless his heart. He’s probably used to those in the political beltway who perhaps aren’t out there working but they’re talking and they’re meeting people and they’re doing their ‘strategery,’ whereas I’m workin’ and I’m having a great time doin’ it. It’s been a pleasure to bring Americans along for the ride to show them… America’s Fort Knox, this land that we call Alaska, has to offer and to film eight episodes to show Americans what it is that we do and have up here in terms of resources.”

He pressed. “How does (the television show), in your mind, help you in the political arena. Or does it?”

“I told Alaskans that I was gonna do all that I could to promote Alaska. And I’ll tell ya that TLC’s debut show as the highest-rated show in that cable network’s history. I think it’s doing a good job for Alaska… Promoting Alaska and even more importantly promoting domestic resources that we have in America that can be tapped into to allow us to be more secure, healthier, more prosperous. A lot of the show has to do with the resources that we have that need to be developed.”

O’Reilly brought up Kate Gosselin’s appearance on one of the episodes. “But see, is that presidential?” he pressed further.

Palin pretended to mimic an Ivy League professor. “Ew, I’m sorry I’m not so hoity-toity (she pronounced it “hotty-tidy”), I don’t do this (she waved her finger in the air) before I make a statement or endorse a person or portray reality.”

We have a friend who left a high paying job about five years ago to go work at an AIDS hospital in Malawi. That's dedication.

but what a great idea it has given me - getting my family to pool as much as we can so we can buy a desk. hopefully the site will be active for a long time so people can get their bank accounts refurbished by tax returns...

Thanks, Gryph, for posting this for those of us who do not watch that much TV. My $24.00 is on its way to UNICEF (K.I.N.D.), to those wonderful kids/teachers, and I am happy to be of some help. :o)

Have a great day, and a Merry Christmas!

I too, wish to thank you for posting this and have donated as well in loving memory of a young student who was taken way too early in his life.

It's always a breath of fresh air to listen to Lawrence O'Donnell and company, who are well grounded, passionate, and sincere about their work and causes as well as being so generous.

  17. I saw it and the same thought crossed my mind. Here was a truly impassioned plea for help for a needy country, with no self-promotion at all by Lawrence O'Donnell. What a contrast with Palin's self-serving photo-op in Hait. And yes, I sent money for a desk as well. I love Lawrence O'Donnell more every day.
