Even without a title Sarah Palin desperately wanted to make an impact. And now she has. Update!

From now on, when somebody looks up one of the most horrific accusations EVER aimed at the Jewish community, they will think of Sarah Palin.

Ms. Palin welcome to immortality.

(BTW that was actually the result of a hack done over on Wikipedia that has since been repaired.  Somehow I don't think they can so easily repair the damage that Palin has done to her brand.)

Update: The criticisms over this horrible phrase have now gone mainstream.

Visit msnbc.com for breaking news, world news, and news about the economy

Now remember THIS is the NBC Nightly News, NOT just MSNBC or some internet news sites. This is the most watched prime time news broadcast on television.

No way can Palin explain this away by talking about partisan politics, or the "Lamestream media."  Like I said this is immortality.

I am thanking God that Palin is such an idiot.

I am also thanking God for the man who I have every confidence will deliver an even, wise, compassionate, measured, and inspiring message in Tucson tonight. You know, the man Americans elected as our President.

Palin is the biggest idiot alive with a flag and teleprompter! The lamestream media had outlined a clear path for her out of her original mess by sugggesting that she needed to apologize for her ill-conceived use of the cross hairs map, even if it were not related to the AZ shootings, and that would absolve her to some extent.

But Nooooo! She created a completely new controversy over the term blood libel! Now how is she ever going to be able to garner any respect by her party or any others? Many news commentators are saying today was the nail in the coffin for Palin's political career, as she is becoming the laughing stock of the fringe right.

Sarah Palin Fumbles and Flails Into an Otherwise Solemn Day

Sarah Palin could have used her time to be a leader -- to take the high road and talk about the heroes and the victims of this terrorist attack. She could have used the time to discuss responsible gun ownership. She could have taken the time to address her people and mitigate the anger and political hatred that's bubbled up around this tragedy. Instead, she diminished the tragedy by conflating it with the attacks against her and her record of inflammatory statements.

And, along the same line, arguably the biggest gaffe of today's narcissistic word salad was her use of the phrase "blood libel." So not only did she opt to whine about her critics on a day when real heroes and real victims will be memorialized, but she also compared the criticism and stress she's endured throughout the last four days to thousands of years of anti-Semitic religious persecution endured by Jews.

Can you imagine how she'll react in a crisis should everyone go insane and elevate her to the White House? "Rachel Maddow is committing a holocaust against me. Wah! Feel sorry for me! Oh, and by the way, we're invading Mexico. God Bless America. And my life is as tragic as a German Jew in 1943, also. Good night!"

The histrionics are staggering, especially for someone who wants to be taken seriously as a potential candidate for national office.

Whenever she parades her white-trashy reality show attitude into public view, it's an ongoing display of ridiculousness, unrivaled in decades. But today, she veered far from her usual flailing, and jutted her screechy yapper into the wrong news cycle -- on a day when she would have been better served by exercising some self control. On a day when the victims of Tucson will be memorialized and the heroes of Tucson will be elevated to historical prominence, it's no time for a cable TV doof to inject her brand of political masturbation.

Ultimately, her nincompoopery and fumbly ignorance was completely eclipsed today by her reprehensible tastelessness, proved by the ill-considered timing of her video, and, even worse, by her unforgivable lack of deference to the men and women who have more than earned our attention for at least one uninterrupted day. We can only hope the embarrassment she's enduring as a consequence of today's gaffe-parade will dissuade her from doing it again.

I am a boomer and have seen plenty in my life. To me, Palin is presenting a persona that resembles a government leader in exile. Beck referred to the "...fall of the republic…" in his rant. Have I been "looking" too long, or are these folks more dangerous than we imagined?

...If Sarah Palin is the pessimist who sees darkness and evil all corners, Barack Obama is the optimist who always believes that America can and will get better. Palin prays on the weaknesses in the American character, while Obama reinforces the good in us. Before Obama spoke this evening, I went back and watched former President Clinton’s remarks at the Oklahoma City bombing memorial. I was expecting President Obama to walk along the same path that Clinton did, but this president offered something different.

Clinton gave the nation emotional comfort after a terrible tragedy. Obama gave the nation hope and a direction tonight. It is his strong believe in the American spirit that makes President Barack Obama stand out, and in times of tragedy, when sadness and darkness, fill our eyes and possess our thoughts, the country needs to hear that America will emerge from this time stronger and better than before. This belief in America has made Obama the right person to occupy the White House at this time in our history.

As Obama heals the nation’s wounded heart, Sarah Palin spent the day trying to divide us. While Barack Obama thought about his country, Sarah Palin spent the day doing damage control, and floating ridiculous and selfish death threat stories to the media. Sarah Palin can’t understand what President Obama instinctively does. This moment in our history is not about her. It is about a senseless tragedy that has forced us to examine our political discourse. President Obama gets it. Sarah Palin never will.

When I listen to the tone of our President and when I consider our Playing Shadow President Quitter's rant today, I fall to my knees and thank GOD that Barack Obama won the presidency. What an extraordinary memorial speech!

Remarks of President Obama - As Prepared for Delivery

...I believe we can be better. Those who died here, those who saved lives here - they help me believe. We may not be able to stop all evil in the world, but I know that how we treat one another is entirely up to us. I believe that for all our imperfections, we are full of decency and goodness, and that the forces that divide us are not as strong as those that unite us.

That's what I believe, in part because that's what a child like Christina Taylor Green believed. Imagine: here was a young girl who was just becoming aware of our democracy; just beginning to understand the obligations of citizenship; just starting to glimpse the fact that someday she too might play a part in shaping her nation's future. She had been elected to her student council; she saw public service as something exciting, something hopeful. She was off to meet her congresswoman, someone she was sure was good and important and might be a role model. She saw all this through the eyes of a child, undimmed by the cynicism or vitriol that we adults all too often just take for granted.

I want us to live up to her expectations. I want our democracy to be as good as she imagined it. All of us - we should do everything we can to make sure this country lives up to our children's expectations.

President Obama's speech in Tucson will trigger much commentary, but in speaking many words, he really uttered the last one. There was a finality to Obama's speech, a lapidary effect that endowed it with humility and gravity. It would be hard to think of a more moving and dignified speech, particularly when set against the foil of Sarah Palin's creepy and self-absorbed effusions earlier today.

In essence, Obama returned to his earliest and most deeply felt theme, which is that optimism, not hatred, civility, not rancor, hope, not despair, should guide and elevate America, no matter how heated or turbulent political issues may become.

But for all the weight and gravity of his talk, Obama had to compose himself at the end of his talk, when he spoke of Christina-Taylor Green skipping through rain puddles in heaven. Perhaps you could even say that there was something angelic about Obama's exhortation to follow the better angels of our nature.

No doubt the usual cavalcade of atrabilious right-wing commentators will work overtime to try and distort Obama's remarks. But his address drew its strength from the fact that he, in effect, receded from the memorial service to function in the capacity of offering a tribute to the victims rather than pontificating about them.

Obama referred to the fact that the significance of these events shouldn't simply be consigned to oblivion by the time of the next news cycle. But his ennobling address may well have helped to ensure that they do not suffer that fate.

THIS is what Sarah was referring to? OMG!

...In the end, the half-dead boy would be crowned with thorns and tied or nailed to a wooden cross. The cross would be raised and the blood dripping from the boy’s wounds, particularly those on his hands, feet, and genitals, would be caught in bowls or glasses. Finally, the boy would be killed with a thrust through the heart from a spear, sword, or dagger. His dead body would be removed from the cross and concealed or disposed of, but in some instances rituals of black magic would be performed on it. The earlier stories describe only the torture and agony of the victim and suggest that the child’s death was the sole purpose of the ritual. Over time and as the libel proliferated, the focus shifted to the supposed need to collect the victim’s blood for mystical purposes.

I was on twitter during the memorial. I thought it was absolutely amazing, everything about it. I had tears in my eyes. Then I noticed some retweets of people making the most horrible hate filled comments I have ever seen. Someone wrote that "Sarahs speech was better." Another wrote " Obama only cares about getting elected"
These are some of the tame ones. There were racial slurs against the Native blessing and others. Really sick stuff--- just go look at heyTammyBruce twitter feed and the comments back to her.

I started thinking about my own possible role in this and I've made a pledge to not write certain things about Sarah anymore. No words like bitch or I hate her as examples. I am going to try to keep my tweets and comments free of hostility which won't be easy but I don't want to be like these people. I will still make comments and call out nonsense but I'm committing to re-reading my tweet or comment and toning it down.

One more thing just FYI there is a huge amount of anti-semitism out there. I couldn't believe some of what I saw. I think if you are not Jewish or have personally experienced it, it's hard to understand. I just thought I'd mention it. It scares me and brings up some awful experiences.

I hope all my friends here will also think about the power and impact of their words. Thanks.

I have to say that speech was incredible. As a Jewish woman I am horrified at palin's new line of bullshit. Jesus doesn't she have handlers that would be more areful? Oh wait, maybe they are trying to derail her because they realize she is hateful and dispicable.

Begala called it political narcissism in the extreme, saying he'd watched it twice today and read it three times and it didn't get better with each rendition. As Dave Weigel tweeted, "Didn't think it was possible for Palin's speech/video to seem even smaller, but there you go."

Quote from Daily Kos. Given enough rope she has hung herself so thoroughly.

Repubs try to downplay Obama, but they can't. This speech will go down in history.

@heytammybruce is an incredibly nasty and hateful person. Is she mentally ill?? I ask that seriously because her tweets are more than strange, they are sick. Truly truly sick. The crowd was ghoulish? The whole thing was a disgrace?? The woman is either very mentally ill or an extremely unhappy full of rage person.

Kellygirl--thank you for posting those. That woman needs serious psychiatric help..I feel sorry for any person that is so unhappy or messed up that they see a memorial that way.

This is what happens when someone tries to act smart, tries to write a piece that is as the phrase goes, is above their paygrade.

Somewhere, sometime, either Palin or whoever wrote this heard this phrase and it might not have even been used in the correct context. But darn it didn't it sound good and it stuck in the back of their head. At THE worst time it popped back up and a career is thus ended.

I've seen this numerous times (but never to this magnitude of stupidity) where people use big fancy words or phrases when they don't need to and it always tends to be an incorrect one. They look at it and think it makes them look smart but anyone else that reads it is left scratching their head wondering how the person could have made such a gaffe.

If Palin was the least bit a human being I would feel sorry for her right about now. Sadly given her history I just can't feel anything for her other than contempt for trying to make herself to be the victim in this horrid event.

Someone said that Sarah is acting as a president in exile (sorry I can't remember who, and I'm too tired to go back and look). I totally agree! She really does think she is the president of a country (with real patriots) within a country (phony patriots). This is scary stuff.

On another note, my mother was a borderline personality -- a very freaky person. When she was angry and spouting self-righteous crap, she held her jaw in the same tight way that Sarah is. This woman is telling us all how it is and showing us at the same time that we are all worthless. She is the only person of worth on this planet and anyone else has value if, and only if, they are of use to her. She can never be cured. She will never give up. I wish it were not so.

President Obama's speech was out standing tonight and Palin is not even qualified to shine his shoes! Her trying to come out in front of him today with her disaster speech was a big, big flop and I'm more assured that she is going to fade into the dust of Wasilla. It cannot happen fast enough. The Republican party is going to do even more distancing of themselves from her.

Tammy Bruce's disrespect for the memorial service for the massacre victims is right up there with Mansour and Palins "blood libel" timing and execution. She must be getting a concealed salary or bonus from Sarah Pac the way she has to bash our President. She couldn't manage to take a break and show some respect for the deceased.

Reagan had the longest services of all, something like 5 or more days and we respected him the whole time. I felt compassion for Nancy when I saw she had those moments with Michael Reagan, that could not have been easy for her. I could not help but feel for her as she was by her husband's side for the last time on earth. She was one devoted mate regardless of how that effected her mothering and there is no doubt they loved one another. So what he was divorced and all that went before.

The Republicans and right wing that align with Palin, Mansour and Bruce have zero humanity. When they are not trying to martyr Palin they have to relentlessly bash. They have no respect and won't deal with the death of the child that was Piper's age and attending a political event. It breaks my heart what they are teaching her. Piper's book in another 10-15 years will be interesting.

So now we get to watch for the spin on her spin which was about her original screw-ups. Life with Palin is like being on a Tilt-a-Whirl except it's not any fun, it just makes me nauseous.

Will she ever reach a point where she says "I can't do this. I'm quitting." I'd settle for a "the meanies out there won't let me do it because they're jealous since I'm so pretty so I'm quitting".

I didn't think she could put herself in a worse position than she already was but she surprised me again. Oh, and she says says "pundants" rather than "pundits".

Did anyone but me notice Palin's barely concealed smiles during that speech? I can't say for sure what's in her heart but can say she doesn't appear to feel a shred of remorse, sympathy or sadness about the 6 people who died or the 13 who were injured - not to mention sympathy for Rep.Giffords.

You know, as many times as Palin has thrown her kids out to garner sympathy for herself over imagined insults, grasping the smallest thing so that she can promote herself as a "grizzly mama" and here a small child has died! And this is the best that she can do. Doesn't even say Christina Greene's name. Or any of the other victims besides Rep. Giffords.

  96. This is a "must see" video.

I never realized that David Brock is this eloquent.

A Message To Sarah Palin from Media Matters CEO David Brock http://t.co/K

On May 6, 1995, after the bombing, President Clinton said, "There is nothing patriotic about hating your government or pretending you can hate your government but love your country."

This fall I was especially concerned with three assassination attempts directly linked to your ally and fellow Fox News contributor Glenn Beck.

(he goes on to use documentation to back up these claims)

In your video, you predictably blame the media for libeling you. My view is you and your right-wing conspirators have gotten off easy. Most in the press dismiss the import of your words as careless constructions or run-of-the mill political phrases, presuming you do not understand or mean what you say and do.

But I know what you do. We are just off a campaign cycle in which you and the Republican candidates you supported raised the prospect of armed revolt if Washington did not change its ways. Much of your message centered -- like the Tea Party moniker itself -- on imagery of armed revolution and existential clashes in which the freedom of our country is at stake. This is a lie.

You and Beck and Limbaugh pander to the margin of the margins, employing whatever words win you contributions or ratings, the consequences be damned.

Promoting anti-government extremism is your business. Without it you are nothing. And you know it.

Ok, so this gory phrase is going to be the takeaway from her speech, I guess. But what I got from her speech was a desperate attempt to defend the rightwing's violent imagery and rhetoric. What is interesting about this is it wasn't her first reaction. Her first reaction was to send RAM out to try and fool people into thinking that the rifle crosshairs were actually surveyor symbols.

    Initial reaction: guilt.
    Second reaction: on the defense.

The right knows they are wrong. And they are afraid of the general populace waking up to that fact.

This is a weak moment for them, and we need to capitalize on it, because if they continue to get away with what they get away, expect to see more of this rhetoric actually carried out in violence.

By capitalizing on it, I mean we need to have the media start really covering death threats, road rage incidents, all of which IS provoked by violent rightwing rhetoric.

Did you notice McCain looked like a grumpy old man? Still sore because he lost. I did notice Cindy McCain would smile and looked in POTUS direction. I was trying to see if John clapped, it did not look like it, but tv camera did not have good view.
Congressman Clyburn did not sit with POTUS, but he made his way to the front row to see POTUS, but not McCain. I hope John does not give Cindy a black eye for looking in POTUS direction.

Some say McCain did not clap for Obama because he was tweeting Snookie.
