Sarah Palin's e-mails are coming out May 31. No, THIS time they mean it!

Courtesy of MSNBC:

The state of Alaska has until May 31 to release about 25,000 pages of e-mails from former Gov. Sarah Palin and senior members of her administration, the state attorney general declared Wednesday.

Officials in the governor's office asked the attorney general to approve a 15th delay in the process, until May 31. That request was approved Wednesday by the new attorney general, John J. Burns.
But Burns said this deadline is firm:

"I am granting the requested extension with the unequivocal expectation that all requested records that are not privileged will be provided no later than May 31, 2011," Burns wrote in a letter to the administrative director of the governor's office. He sent a copy of the letter to the news organizations and citizens who have requested records, including msnbc.com.

The other requestors are the Associated Press, Mother Jones magazine, Republican activist AndreƩ McLeod and author Geoffrey Dunn. Journalists and citizens requested records on Palin's administration in the summer of 2008, when she vaulted onto the national stage after Sen. John McCain chose her as his running mate in his quest for the White House.

I am going to reserve judgement on just how revealing this e-mails may turn out to be until I get a chance to see them.  They may be the break everybody has been waiting for, but I have also heard that they have been heavily redacted and that many with the potential to cause the most damage to Palin's reputation, or even put her behind bars, are in the "privileged" category.

Which means that NOBODY will ever see those.  At least not by going through the usual channels.

It's about damn time. I bet they have been working on ways to keep the real damaging ones classified as privileged. Still, there should be some interesting ones in there.

I think people need to take a look at all of Parnells emails when he took over for her. I bet there's some juicy ones in there too.

They have had so much time to delete and trash all the damaging emails, I doubt that there will be anything of substance left.

Come on people we are dealing with Sarah "The Biggest Lying Coward on Earth" Palin. This lady and her Jesus Mafia burn churches to hide evidence.

They terrorize and use teenagers for their agendas. They use prostitues for their sexually pleasures and then have them throw in jail.

They sabotage mothers to hide what they know about their dysfunctional lifestyle. This family puts target symbols on US Rep heads and has them shot.

To me it was no coincidence that Bristol arrived in AZ the same day as the shootings. Sarah and her Jesus Mafia I guarentee had something to do with that.

This lady and her family are serial killers and destroyers and will do anything for bad power and fame. So do you really think there will be anything damaging in those emails? No it will take alot for this sad ass COWARD to go away!

For a sparsly populated state, Alaska sure is corrupt, isn't it? Palin should have been charged with ethics violations when she conducted state business on a personal e-mail site.

May 31st better finally be it! It's a shame they will be heavily redacted, I expected nothing less though......but still....I think enough will be exposed to connect a few more dots.

Geoffrey Dunn may have to write Palin Book II.

It has been much tooooooo long in coming - but perhaps anything less than state a secret (like Putin reared his head over AK on X date at X time for X minutes), salary or state contract negotiations (Gas Line) will be let through. The sheer volume is astounding ...when you consider being Gov for roughly 2-1/2 yrs, and was on the VP Road for 3 months.

I believe if there are more ethic issues uncovered - an appeal can be made that the delay of disclosure should NOT prevent recoverable action by the State of Alaska or its citizens. Giving the citizenry less than 60 days to review & file any potential complaint.

    "that are not privileged"

OK you Alaskans. This is for you.
    A place to leak!
    --------------

Jeff Jarvis tweets to announce the work of one of his journalism students: Localeaks. The idea is to allow any one of 1400 US newspapers to receive leaks (tips and/or files) from whistleblowers through its online dropbox.

    ReadWriteWeb explains:

Each drop-box consists of a secure web connection and a form that encrypts both files and the text submitted (then destroys the originals) as well as removes identifying metadata from documents. The system also makes every effort to leave no traceable remnants from the transaction, such as identifiable session cookies on the client side or logging of any IP addresses on the server side.

Once a file is submitted, the newspaper will receive an email, alerting them to the tip. The newspaper then needs to reply that it’s interested. Then a temporary secure file transfer is established

The fact that PalinLite aka Parnell kept Palin's staff - why would we be surprised that most will be classed as privileged or heavily redacted.

PalinLite and staff have been doing everything they can to get past the 2 year time limit of her leaving office.

One should think twice (or,in the case of Palin, just try to THINK, in the first place) about running for office if ambition is One's only motivation or qualification for doing so.

Sarah Palin has damaged a lot of people in her quest for power, money and fame: her family...the people of Alaska...and the people of this country.

As for the email issue,if Palin had truly conducted herself in the manner in which she said she would during her short tenure as Governor of Alaska - that is to be open and transparent - she would have no need to pay a legion of lawyers a whole lot of money to obfuscate and redact the content of the back stream communication that occurred in her administration.

Alaskans were bamboozled. Let us all work together- despite our differences - to make sure this shallow, sick and insufferable fraud never holds an elected office again.

Palin is an entertainer/celebrity first and foremost. Not surprising that she's landed in the chicken dinner circuit. That'll be how she continues to make her living. There are so many of these events and entertaining speakers are generally the only criteria. Palin is certainly that!

It's understandable that people would make too much of these speaking opportunities, considering the drama Palin has caused since her national introduction; however, keep in mind that there are many political types on that circuit. No need to panic. I doubt it means anything.

It isn't just Alaska that is involved. The Palin scandals reach into the highest levels of the GOP and their allies abroad.

The real powers that be in the GOP (and allied interests) are currently trying, very carefully, to extricate themselves from Palin and the Teaparty, who have out-lived their usefulness, and are becoming something of a liability.

Palin, in particular, is a problem. She is like an explosive device that needs to be carefully dismantled so as not to damage those who launched her career. And she probably holds at least a few good cards... if things get really nasty.

Why the hell is there a "privileged" category to official e-mail - even if they tried to make it appear as if it were personal? There are certainly no national security implications, even if she can see Russia from her house. Anything redacted should be treated by the court as a willful violation of the law. Any such actions would be nothing more than a blatant attempt at simply giving a giant middle finger to the spirit and letter of the FOIA.

At some point, even the Almighty Omnipotent Potentates in the Badass Empire of Alaska will have to obey the law. The question is, are Sarah's peeps who still infest the state government willing to go to jail to keep the e-mails secret?

There is no fucking way that she gets to redact anything, or the law is meaningless. It's inconceivable that any court will ultimately sustain any further attempts to keep her official correspondence secret for much longer. Palin and her supporters simply don't have a leg to stand on.

    Anon @ 3:01,
Granted, Sarah Palin is a narcissistic mean spirited bitch who lives for vengeance and retribution, but you give her WAY too much credit. The overriding character flaw of Palin is that she is thicker than shit. She isn't smart enough to coordinate a regional bus tour for her book signings, so how in the hell is she going to orchestrate complex grand Machiavellian maneuverings?

Palin reacts instinctively and shoots from the hip in all matters. She doesn’t think - EVER! In addition to being a simpering moron, she is paranoid, so she naturally assumes that everybody is out to get her and acts accordingly. That’s why she reflexively did not want to release any e-mails. She didn’t consider the content - again, that would require thought, which she does not do - she simply flipped everybody off by claiming the e-mails were private. She is so imbecilic that she probably believed that by not using official state computers and smart phones that she came up with a foolproof way to keep all her official communications secret. There is no way that the courts will ultimately let her make this claim, or it would render the FOIA meaningless. I just don’t see that the court is willing to give the public such an ass kicking just to prop up Palin’s enormous ego. If she is stupid enough to try and get her allies in state government to cover up, destroy, or redact information she will make things demonstrably worse for herself. Remember, it’s the cover ups that send people to prison. Are her friends willing to do hard time to protect her? I doubt it.

Palin is the pied piper of imbeciles. She is the Sisyphus of morons. She is a buffoon who attracts other buffoons the way shit attracts flies. Just sit back and enjoy the spectacle as she self destructs.

A UK blogger really wishes "that some US outlet...USA Today, let's say, would announce one day: from this day forward, we're covering Palin in the entertainment section, not the news section, because that's all she is, because she is not intelligent enough to be taken seriously as any other sort of person."

Will Ms GotRocks Palin speak at the gun convention in Reno? AWTF had a $1,000 bet that she wouldn't. Hope she doesn't show up. Does all this mean that the Iceberg has melted???? Man, I wish she would be brought down...and...soon.

I hope the surprises you've spoken of don't have anything to do with what gets released by the SOA in the big pile of redacted emails.

I'm not expecting much from the email dump. I seem to recall that AK law allows basically unlimited executive privilege.

Gryphen, is there still an iceberg floating toward Ms. P or has it melted? If the emails are what we have been waiting for we may be sorely disappointed with what is left unredacted for us to see.

I have been hoping for something more solid, bigger, something more icebergy.

A few weeks back it was hinted at that something big was happening behind the scenes; something that would be Palin's Waterloo. Now it appears that the Todd scandal has amounted to nothing, the e-mails will be scrubbed, the mystery of Trig's birth has been forgotten and Bristol was not pregnant, just fat.

It seems no matter what is thrown at Teflon Sarah, it just slides right off her. Color me disappointed and depressed.

Gryphen, do you have any words of encouragement for those of us who have just about given up hope of ever seeing this evil person removed from the political arena?

David Frum, a GOP analyst, said last night that Palin is just taking up space where another Republican should be.

Right now it seems like Sarah is made of Teflon. A lot of things have come out about her and nothing seems to stick. John Gotti was the same way for many, many years but he was brought down eventually. So there is hope. Unfortunately, we have to put with this worthless human being until it finally happens.

  85. Too many redactions will look fishy and make people ask MORE questions.

These emails, will no doubt confirm things in McGinness and Dunn's books, even with redactions.

There is a tsunami of truth coming that she cannot survive.

Gasparilla makes me laugh. You really think people are scared to be associated with Sarah when huge scandals happen and thunderous lies are told EVERYDAY that have nothing to do with her? We live in a country of horrid secrets. Political operatives, national leaders, lawyers lies for a living: to save their jobs, to rape people of money, to live out their dream. Look at all the different versions of history. Some absolutely contradict others, as personal biographies and autobios do.

One huge thing to remember about history: each human story (the real truth) is known by one person: the person who lived the story.

All our lives may intertwine and we cannot control that. But that doesn't mean our account of an event or person is any more or less accurate than the next

    @honeybabe:

That's what I keep wondering: was this woman NEVER in the office? Were there NEVER staff meetings?

Look at what MSNBC obtained, roughly 3000 emails to Todd.

Sarah would have you believe these are all "personal" emails from her to her husband. Of course, we know they aren't, we can see they're mostly from her staff (all from their own personal off-the-record accounts) to Todd, usually discussing state business.

So do the math: 3000 divided by 665, the rough number of calendar days Sarah was governor. That's 4.5 PERSONAL emails a day! Who does that on the job? No conscientious employee, that's for sure. I didn't even take weekend days out of the count. Goodness knows how many PERSONAL emails were flying around that administration.

Like Time magazine said after the Troopergate report came out:

"Is the Palin administration shockingly amateurish? Yes, it is. Disturbingly so."

Many that have been in with the Palins are going to start distancing themselves because whatever they were involved with her in the past could still come back to probably ruin some of their lives even if not in a legal sense. Slowly but surely she will find herself out on that limb sitting by herself.

Continuing to associate yourself with one that has a lot of problems is only going to keep the spotlight on you. Those that have any morals and intelligence will break away if they have their life straightened up because by laying with dogs will give one fleas.
