Alaskan men walk to raise awareness about the sexual abuse of women. And they do it in high heels.

From AOL News:

"Men want to make a public statement that they detest sexual violence," said Kelley Olson, STAR's program manager. "A lot of them have told me that they walk for their sisters, they walk for their mothers, they walk for their daughters. They walk because they care about women."

Amusement factor aside, the underlying message was serious. Signs with messages including "No Means No!", "Got Consent???", "Shatter the Silence," and "Alaskans Can End Sexual Violence" bobbed along in the hands of participants.

Walt Monegan, former head of the state troopers, participated in what he said people were calling old lady shoes. "I'm old, so it's OK," he said.

Monegan, who now heads the Alaska Native Justice Center, said he was taking part because the issues of sexual assault need to be highlighted.

"Sexual assault for some folks is still kind of a sensitive, dark issue," he said. "By bringing this in a humorous light, it eases the acceptance and discussion of it. So, any way we can bring it to the surface is a good thing."

I am not sure how I missed this.  Usually this would be exactly the kind of thing that I would be notified about, but until I just read this I was totally unaware.

Too bad, I look stunning in red pumps.

And how cool is it that Walt Monegan took part in this walk?  I have had a number of great conversations with Walt, and he is a man of great compassion and integrity.

If you feel as left out as I do, and still want to help, you can do so  by clicking this link to STAR and providing a donation.

Bravo to these men . . . . At a time when women's rights are being ripped from them by the American Christian Taliban its good to know there are men willing to hoof it for the right thing.

  3. Walt Monegan sounds like a man of integrity. Too bad he married into a family that does not value the same.

I tried to donate but the site does not allow me to click in .....

That's so great! One day I hope to stage a production of the Vagina Monologues that includes a row of men who remain in the background the whole show. I think it would add to the show something fresh, though the show itself is fantasic.

Some of those men enjoyed every inch of their walk. It was the perfect excuse to get into drag in public.

This wasn't intended to raise money and won't raise much. The cause is good of course but the method of bringing it forward stinks. It needs to be about women, not about trannies and cross dressers.

You can't go wrong in red pumps. Make sure you throw a photo up if you ever get the chance.

enid - are you confusing Moneghan with Mike Wooten? Please clarify, because you might just be disparaging Mrs. Moneghan and her family unfairly.

Would like to see Todd Palin participate since he treats women like objects, but I know hell will freeze over first.

Walt & his wife are lovely lovely people -- inside & out. I'm so glad to hear that Walt has landed in a position that allows him to continue to help the people of Alaska. Lucky Alaska to have him and those others who walked for women.

Anon @ 11:08, I really don't think those men look all that great but I don't have anything against trannies and cross dressers. I just think they should keep it to themselves. And yes, some of them are big men. You could see the size of them if you looked closely to the bulges in their pants. Cross dressing in public is just so hot for them. Not often they get a legit excuse.

    Love Sarah.

p.s. they'll never look as good as me. And neither will you dear!

It's sad that when I see Captain Zero make this big Administration push to fight Sex Abuse against women and children and don't trust it one bit.

Why? Because he's trying to distract us with this platform while taking away funding and services for women and children that he's ostensibly saving. I know we should appreciate any attention sex abuse (I'd love to see child neglect also too) gets, but I believe it is for ulterior motives. Whether Parnell realizes it or not.

I'd trust Walt Monegan's motives, as a decorated law enforcement veteran, he's seen what man is capable of against women and children.

Anon @ 9:47 You are an idiot and an asshole. And a little threatened. Is it because this one of your closet fetishes? Naughty Monkey Pumps (if you are a man?) or attraction to men in pumps?

    Good for the guys.
Figures vary depending on whose study you read and how they collected date but 40 to 80% of women are sexually assaulted, many repeatedly.

But let's not forget that boys are also victims, so among those who walked are bound to be at least a few who know the pain all too well.

Don´t tease us. You are not sarah. Although it would be thrilling for sarah to come in here and have a meltdown before our very eyes, she is too scared. sarah is a coward who hides behind body guards and FB. sarah is all sweet and polite when she is alone. However, she becomes an insufferable bitch when she is surrounded by people who are willing to face the consequences of her behavior for her.

BTW, those men are attracting more attention than sarah, who has become virtually invisible when in the Alaskan public. Hence, they must look better.

Enid, i think you're mistaken in your post.

Walt Monegan married into a wonderful family that shares his same views and strongly supports him.

not hating, just trying to clarify for other readers.
