Yes, it’s true, I’ve heard dozens of rumors about the Palins—all sorts of things—and I have asked my various sources questions, including about this alleged “love child.” So the National Enquirer accurately reported my questioning. You are correct, also, about this rumor re. Todd. It came from people very closely connected to him in Wasilla and Dillingham. And this rumor had nothing to do with Trig or Shailey Tripp and, in the end, I decided not to pursue it. It was challenging enough to track down those things I knew with certainty. And I did unearth some startling personal stories, which is perhaps where this rumor originated.
That said, it’s what Sarah Palin did during her public career that is really what most concerns me—from her tenure on the Wasilla City Council and as mayor, through her governorship and her quest for the American presidency. And that sordid record has not been thoroughly examined or exposed. What she did to her former brother-in-law Mike Wooten, for example, is an absolute outrage. She and her father and her husband conspired in an orchestrated vendetta against Wooten to get his job as a Trooper. And they weren’t even able to pull that off—and, in the end, it was Troopergate that ultimately soured the McCain campaign and GOP insiders on Palin. It is Troopergate that will ultimately cost her the GOP nomination and any shot at the presidency. Troopergate was the issue that exposed and underscored her corruption as governor. It called lie to her pretensions of being a political crusader and a reformer.
As for all the rumors, there’s nothing the Palins could do that would shock me. About their parenting. Their private lives. Nothing. Because what we know is already shocking enough. She absolutely betrayed John McCain in the middle of the campaign. She raised the specter of Reverend Wright when McCain had specifically said it was off-limits because of its purely racist subtext. And she did it. Intentionally. On national TV. Then lied about it. What doesn’t she lie about? Her political career is one long train wreck from Wasilla to Juneau to D.C. I’ve said it before, she has no moral compass. She has no governor on her ambition.
Well there you have it. The TWO most famous authors currently working on books about Sarah Palin have both confirmed the validity of this story. STILL think the National Enquirer is "just making stuff up?"
Now if we can only get somebody to confirm it beyond any doubt.

I heard something interesting today. I have a great friend in Wasilla from when I lived there for a couple years who's good friends with Todd's uncle. I was casually talking to this friend and he said nonchalantly "yeah, you know, I talked to _____ this afternoon and he said that the family is so proud of Sarah and cannot wait to see where the path leads."

Todd certainly went after Wooten and that isn't commendable. But remember, he still has his job, he still sees his kids. Also remember, he did call his niece (Bristol) a pejorative in public and he did have anger issues. Not that it warrants what happened to him. At least he apologized on tv for his behavior and mistakes.

McCain wanted Lieberman and the blowback from GOP focus groups was so bad that they had to come up with someone quickly. SP was the choice because they felt they might capture disaffected Hillary voters and that SP's youth might also offset McCain's age. She was literally plucked from relative obscurity with essentially no time to vett her. It was a scramble and McCain had no choice. I'm sure that initially he thought this was a grand move, especially when his poll numbers soared after announcing her but according to those involved in the McCain campaign it didn't take long for them to realize what a disaster she was.
She'll never even come close to the WH...too many insiders know the dirt now and won't hesitate to use it if she becomes problematic for 2012

I'm starting to see how Todd and Levi have a lot in common, and why BRistol possibly liked Levi. They both seem to be lost souls trying to find their way. We know Levi never had a close, strong family and he suffered. He attached himself to many girls and got serious fast, even when said girl just wanted to have fun. Todd's family, though close, is broken with many branches and sub branches. (if that made sense). They are both quiet, have anger problems, have sex addiction problems, like controlling women, have been known to cheat regularly, and they look alike. They're both outdoorsy and true Alaskans.

Writers are at the mercy of who speaks to them. Who goes on the record and who doesn't is important in deciding the validity of the claim produced. One reason I put little stock in palingates or this blog for that matter is because I know firsthand that several things reported both places are inaccurate of flat out lies. Sarah started slipping right after the Arizona shootings. Those careless words, targeting candidate with cross hairs, taking aim, reloading and Rebecca's blood libel all came back to haunt her. Sarah (and Rebecca) have such thin skin that they had to answer their critics, against the advice of Roger Ailes. Since then, Sarah's organization appeared weak in their poor planning of her big dramatic international trip. There were too many slip ups. It wasn't the great photo opportunity that they thought it would be.
Sarah position with the GOP and Fox is to play the role of attack dog. She is the little dog that runs after a car, barking at the spinning wheels. Even the mainstream Republicans have distanced themselves from her, sad that she didn't bother to study or learn anything since she left her job as governor. Sarah aimed for celebrity instead of gravitas.
Even when Richard Nixon resigned, 15% of the population thought that he was innocent and framed. There will always be a fringe group that will adore Sarah and write glowing comments about her, regardless of what seasoned reporters, expert journalists and good authors write about her. They don't make the stuff up. Sarah is her own worst enemy.
Dunn, Gryphen and McGinniss have all confirmed they heard the rumor. I applaud them for not bringing it up until now, or doing further investigation. Let NE deal with the soap opera stuff. Sex outside the bonds of marriage is so commonplace in this family, what's one more? The out-right fraud of TrooperGate, BabyGate, DairyGate and all the other gates is where the investigation should be done. Not some anonymous illegitimate child (unless he's being portrayed as a brave combat vet fighting for our rights to "attack" the Palins).

I grew up in DLG and know, that it is not uncommon for a male to father upwards of 5-10 children with several different women from surrounding areas. No ones asks who the father is. Children are absorbed into the society and loved and nurtured the way children should be. But knowing the past of Todd and J.D. and there Palin ways I know the conception took place at a beach party, or a romp after leaving the Sea Inn, or maybe the Willow Tree (I think back then it had better variety) Sad thing is it was probably his cousin.

Anyway, the frustrating thing, is that Gryphen, Palingates, and to a lesser extent, Mudflats, have been covering these "gates" for years...all of them, any ofnthem, which should have put Sarah and Todd away a long time ago. Dairygate, Housegate, Expensegate, Taxgate, Prisongate, and the failed pipeline have all been written about in detail on the blogs. Hopefully this and McGinnis' book will bring them back to the forefront where they should be. All the rest of this tabloid stuff is just icing on the cake, and for me, schadenfreude.
Dunn is simply saying that he heard this rumor enough times to consider pursuing it, but decided against it. He doesn't prove or disprove it. As I recall, Gryphen and Joe McG said largely the same. What I like about the NE stories is that they bring Palin down to the level where she belongs: tabloid. Personally, though, I think the story is probably true. She's already done, politically, but given how awful she's been, I have no problem with he getting kicked when she's down.

I very much like much of what you do. Sometimes you are mean for mean sake, and then defend it, and it hurts innocents. This I find particularly objectionable. I imagine you meant that they have confirmed rumors exist, which is true. If I were Dunn or McGinness I'd be uncomfortable with the possible interpretation that I had confirmed the rumors as true - even if that's not what you meant to say - it's a little too close to being easily misinterpreted.

Michael Jackson had many fine qualities, and in many ways a rough life. Doesn't mean he didn't do what they said.

RESPONSE: Where did you get this. The professionals, and survivors, I know disagree wtih you. They (at least some) would agree his behavior is probably the result of long term abuse. Being abused as a child neither eliminates the possibility, or justifies the same behavior towards others. In fact, it probably increases the likelihood.
Aside from my very real alarm at Sarah Palin's political posturing and exploitative demagoguery - I am sitting here so very thankful that no one in my family has married into a family like this!

The crux of the matter, and why it happened at all, that she was able to get as close to the Vice Presidency as she did, is totally the fault of the media. They have known all of these things since the beginning and there was NO reporting done on it. What has happened to journalism? Yes, it is journalism to report important things no matter who is brought down. How utterly embarrassing for the Tom Brokaws of the world. This woman has caused more hate than anyone who has ever held a public office and I mean even more than Strom Thurman. Where was "our "third estate"? If no one tells the truth we are unprotected from someone running our country who is inherently racist and possibly another Hitler. How could they have let this happen. Also, I wrote the Republican Jewish Coalition about Sarah Palin and the danger she posed to our country constantly and they continued to support her during the election. The also continued to support McCain and we know what family values he has. That organization is full of very well educated individuals, probably Sarah Palin's most well educated supporters, I hold them responsible also. Our media is a national scandal.

So now the question is, who would even consider running on a ticket with Sarah Palin, knowing of her reputation? Who can risk working with her? The only campaign advisers and staff she'll be able to keep will be "friends", acquaintances from Wasilla and family. And which VP would she select to run with her? Todd? Chuck? Becker?

I'm sure Cindy McCain had many the private smile as Scara knifed him and the campaign in the back. Yes, his latest "girlfriend" turned a difficult campaign into a nightmare.
If the main qualification the GOP were looking for was "female" McCain could have dismissed Scara once it was clear (from the Branchflower report) that she used her authority abusively and chosen an experienced, respectable woman to represent his party, but he chose to FULLY COLLUDE and cover up her ignorance and hateful rallies.
Any tiny shred of respect for the Republican party I had, disappeared during 2008.
Hey Palin trolls: All through history, men who left home for the mines or the slope or fishing, were serviced by working girls or the local women provided "comfort." Soldiers too. Children born of these relationships are very common. The Todd story is very easy to believe because of he nature of his work and being gone from home for weeks or months at at time.

Where is your concern when Sarah lies and grifts money from people who don't know any better? Are we to feel sorry for her? Are we to leave her alone while she continues on her path of lies and deception and violence inciting? Should we allow her to continue her divisive rhetoric and treasonous behavior against a sitting President when she goes on foreign soil?

ReplyDeleteFor me, the bottom line is the Palin family is completely dysfunctional - it doesn't matter what her FB fans who think they 'know' her say. I come from a dysfunctional family and I can spot one a mile away. They don't work as a unit and that has been magnified for all the world to see.
ReplyDeleteDespite their obvious issues, this family is riding on the undeserved breaks Sarah has gotten her entire adult life. She hoodwinked her way into mayor and later governor, both jobs way beyond the scope of her abilities (and this has been proven, time and again. A manager for a town the size of the subdivision I live in? Seriously?) Her selection as VP in 2008 continued this astonishing stroke of luck.
Had she been raised in any other place, SP would probably be no more than a 40+ y/o assistant manager at a Dairy Queen (not that there is a thing wrong with that) but she'd been that asshat asst. mgr. trying to entice the high school boys working with her while making the pretty high school girls' lives miserable.

Since you say you ask this as a serious question, I'll answer it as one. Sarah hasn't declared her candidacy but in every other way she is a public figure running for office. She collects money for her PAC, she collects huge fees for speaking at political events, and she regularly issues Facebook and Twitter messages about political issues. She can't do all that and then try to escape scrutiny by hiding behind the fact that she hasn't officially declared.
I'm with the posters who have said that Todd's past doesn't interest me as much as Sarah's. But I would never try to tell someone that it's not an important issue-- people can decide that for themselves. And the fact is that Sarah has inserted herself into all our lives and families by trying to limit our rights to reproductive freedom and the freedom to marry.
I'll be glad to leave Sarah's family alone when she admits that MY family is none of her business.
The real interesting stuff never shows up in the blogs.
