Law firm walks away from defense of DOMA .

Courtesy of First Read:

The law firm hired by the House of Representatives to defend the Defense of Marriage Act in court has decided it will drop its defense of the federal statute, which defines marriage as between a man and a woman.

The firm, King and Spalding, had faced protests from gay rights groups after its contract with the House Administration Committee and General Counsel - along with its attached price tag of up to $500,000 -- was reported. The Human Rights Campaign announced a national campaign last week to urge the group to withdraw from the agreement.

The firm had agreed to work on behalf of the GOP-led House after the Obama administration announced earlier this year that the Department of Justice would no longer defend the law, which it says is unconstitutional.

Good news for people who simply want the right to marry the person they love.  Regardless of their plumbing.

Good. God created People, you know, Individuals. His creation includes both opposite and same sex attraction and love. One cannot dispute God's own creation...well of course they do but they appear to be the bigoted, hateful, fear-mongering,destructive, and unhappy folks.

Never have understood why anyone would be so fired up against two people pledging their love and concern for one another. It makes for a more stable society, less promiscuity (unless you are a conservative Republican politician, I guess) amongst other positive factor.

I've been in heterosexual marriage for over three decades. I see nothing about allowing gays to marry that threatens my own marriage or anyone else's marriage. Not everyone is suited to marriage, but for those who desire to be married, marriage should be encouraged and nurtured, gay or straight, mixed race or not. Two people loving one another, wanting to grow old together, to care for and nurture each other is a good thing. Period.

Oh, ick - Bristol on DWTS again? Even for a night - makes me ill. Guess she'll get paid for it as well. Sigh. Not watching it, can't watch it. Wish it (she) would go away.

YAY! I love that the fundies criticize Obama for spending "$2 million to avoid showing his birth certificate and school records" but it's okay to spend $500K taxpayer dollars opposing a bill that a majority of voters probably support. Um, what happened to fiscal conservatism and small government?? And Christians, what happened to that whole love thing that Jesus so inconveniently keeps bringing up in the Bible??

    Sharia Law forbids same-sex marriage.

    (...and abortion, too.)

It sounds more and more as though Sharia Law would be perfect for Teabagistan.
