New Teabagger approach is to claim that news outlets edited footage to falsely demonstrate that pro-union protesters outnumbered Sarah Palin supporters in Wisconsin.

Apparently their argument hinges on a lone protester shown in a CBS broadcast  holding a sign that urges people to vote on April 5th.


From Big Journalism:

The man in the screencap above holds a sign to encourage voters to vote Klopenburg (who lost to Prosser in a “this is what democracy looks like” election). It was couched between footage of Palin’s Saturday afternoon speech and presented as footage taken from the same day.

Was this just a sloppy edit from a professional mainstream media network? Surely with all of the previous footage of union protests, CBS could have used a less suspect excerpt to edit into their piece on Saturday’s rally. Or, to play devil’s advocate, was this protester just a dim bulb who brought the wrong sign? Thoughts?

MY thoughts are that these people are beyond desperate to show that after waiting so long for the Mama Grizzly to emerge from her den, that she is in fact still able to draw huge crowds, and that the people of Wisconsin simply adore her. So if the journalists dare to report otherwise, then they must be attacked and shown to be prejudiced against their Queen of the North Star.

Well if their pea-sized brains will not allow them to trust the "Lamestream" media reporting on this rally, what do they have to say about all of this amateur video of that day showing that the Teabaggers were outnumbered ten to one? Was THAT faked as well?

I think what these idiots, and the Koch Brothers who finance them, will soon have to realize is that just because they can afford hire one of the most well known publicity whores in the country...



... it does not mean that most REAL Americans will want to get close enough to risk becoming infected with the corporate STD's that have clearly riddled her aging and emaciated image.

(And remember, for you kids at home, when in the vicinity of Sarah Palin to ALWAYS bring protection! This can come in the form of a well informed mind, a healthy skepticism, or a deep dislike for hypocrisy.  Just don't leave home without at least ONE of these on your person!)

It's a reminder about the changing tide. When Tea Partiers organize a rally and bring one of their highest-profile stars to headline, but are nevertheless outnumbered at their own event, which suffered from poor attendance anyway, it's not a good sign.

Well I beg to differ, I think it is a GREAT sign!

    Both Palin and Walker are just the kind of contemptible excuses for human beings that end up being Koch puppets. She is always sticking her beak in affairs that don't concern her, without even a rudimentary grasp of the facts surrounding the issues. As for Walker, it was great to see him getting reamed in DC and for him to admit that union-busting did nothing for his state's budget.


    However, the "lamestream" media, as she calls it, is actually her best friend. The media is what has kept her out there long past what should have been her political expiration date. The fact that footage was edited to look like the events in Wisconsin favored her speaks volumes about the MSM, which is forever falling down on its responsibility to tell the truth.

The constant booing was pervasive throughout the crowd and it's amazing that the media can present whatever picture they want to with creative editing. I live in Iowa and would have gleefully made the 3hr drive if I didn't have to work that day. Darn! I would have liked to proudly represent the readers of this blog and reported back.

  22. I live in Milwaukee, 90 miles east of Madison. Yesterday, along with many other hardy souls, I helped clean up trash along the Milwaukee River. Sadly, some other trash came to my fine state, Sarah Palin. I thought I smelled the stench.

    And it kills me how Sarah complains about the lamestream media when it has done nothing my coddle her. Thanks for the video, Gryphen. I think the video truly shows what most American people think about the has-been governor.

    It is a sad commentary to know that you are among those who have fallen for the Koch-sponsored okey doke. If you are an everyday worker, you need to be thanking unions for the fact that you enjoy things you probably take for granted such as weekends off, 40-hour work weeks, paid vacations, and the end of child labor. Those things were all paid for with blood, sweat, and tears. As for your remarks about "dregs," the biggest welfare recipients are the corporate class which politicians keep giving exorbitant and unreasonable tax breaks to. In fact, Scott Walker is trying to finance those same breaks he gave to corporations that supported him on the backs of unionized public workers. The fact that he and others have had some success at painting unionized workers as leeches who don't pay taxes speaks volumes about their ability to divide workers among ourselves. Unless you are among the wealthy, you are weighing against your own economic interests if you support them. Palin and the Tea Partiers are just the kind of willing tools they will pay generously to convince Americans to vote against their interests. Judging from most of the comments on this particular thread, most people do get it. I just hope you never have to experience an economic catastrophe to convince you just how wrong you are.

FOX NEWS tried to show some of the footage of the violence, but the palm tree in the background gave it away as a fraud."

    She has never drawn big crowds on her own since the 2008 campaign, and even those crowds were a fraction of the size that Obama drew. Any event she has attended since that had a sizable crowd was also coordinated and headlined by other people, or a longstanding event, like that gospel event she went to, that for years has already drawn a lot of people.

    Regarding the screencap with the Kloppenburg sign: there is a picture of a part of one of the 'new' signs (that just came out yesterday, 04/16/11) that reads: "Scott -- Pull a Palin -- QUIT!" This sign shows up in this picture as blue background with red writing on the left upper screen just behind the sign that reads something about "Support workers .. their money". I suppose that the other side can claim that there weren't that many anti-TP/anti-Walker protesters there, as Fauz Noise will often portray (hell, the 'palm trees' indigenous to downtown Madison keep popping up at protests in Madison after FN's shitty editing job), but the truth is there were a TON of protesters. And we were loud. And pissed off.

    For whatever it's worth, we're still pissed off about the Supreme Court election here between Joanne Kloppenburg and David Prosser ... and signs are still being carried support JoKlo as there will be a (state authorized and paid for as the results were *that* close) recount coming up. I like to believe that the one county clerk is still being investigated as well; she'd 'found' ~7000 votes that hadn't been accounted for about 48 hours after the election, claiming that she'd forgotten to 'save' the data (on a database that does automatic saves once the information is entered).

    Anyway, I won't vouch that I specifically saw the sign in question yesterday, but we're still ticked off about this particular election and I did witness other Kloppenburg signs at yesterday's anti-teabagger protest.

    I don't care what Sarah Palin said in her speech in WI. Nothing compares to the hateful rhetoric and scare tactics that Obama and the libs use towards Republicans. Did you not see the video from a rally where people said Justice Thomas should be sent back to the fields, and be strung up, along with his wife? Strung up??? And this from the so-called "tolerant" Democratic party? Have you ever heard Sarah Palin say something like that? I don't think so.

    Did you hear Obama's speech last week, when he accused Repubs of taking away health care from poor children and kids with autism and disabilities? How horrible! This plan does no such thing! We have grandparents, and children that we love. We have friends and relatives with disabilities. Why would we want to deprive them of healthcare? How absurd? This from Obama, after his speech two months ago, in which he condemns this type of behavior? Talk about hypocritical!

    My thing is, if you don't like Sarah Palin, give a good reason, like a stance that you don't believe in, and make an argument for it. Don't just make personal attacks and call her names. Don't pick at her looks or on her kids. If that's all you've got, then you don't have much of an argument. I respect her as a career woman and a mother, and not many women could withstand the public abuse she's endured. I give her props for that. Go Sarah!

    Felicia, if you can give us specifics about policies that Sarah Palin and/or the GOP would endorse, then we will be happy to respond. It is kind of hard to know what they are, as they mostly engage in vague doublespeak. An examination of voting records might be a good place to start, however.

    Sarah Palin hasn't had to do the hard work of taking a stand, or perhaps making a difficult compromise - on anything. She quit her job as Governor, remember.

    Sarah Palin has used her son/grandson Trig as a prop. She dragged him out in raw weather, no shoes, no jacket, no glasses... All so she could score points with the Right to Life crowd. It was unclear if that child was receiving the proper support due a child with special needs. How is that caring for them, when she can't even care for her own?

    I am sure you and your friends care about your families having access to healthcare....but what about people you don't know, people who might not have the resources, people who might in some cases be poor? If you are a Christian, do you care about them? I am a Christian, and I can tell you that Sarah's supposed faith has absolutely nothing in common with mine. And I read the Gospel. I know Jesus's words. She doesn't follow them.

    As for the claim about language used against Justice Thomas by a Democrat, well, I find it quite interesting that the Justice used this language about himself...are you sure you have your sources right? See below:

    Felicia, if Sarah were a mainstream, professional politician, she would be able to handle criticism without resorting to paranoid cries that she has been unfairly treated in the press. We would be without her incessant self-victimization and her ever-present persecution complex! She CHOSE her aspirations. Had she no idea how tough one must be to be involved in politics? Look at Hillary Clinton - if you are a Republican, look at Condoleeza Rice. These women know how to handle themselves - they use their brains, they read, they make sure they are well-informed. I daresay Sarah thought her looks would qualify her, that no one would expect more from her because she had gotten pretty far on looks and flirtation by the time John McCain got to her. By most accounts, she was not a hardworking Mayor or Governor. She certainly does not appear to have educated herself on history and current events since the '08 campaign, beyond memorizing talking points on behalf of the oil industry and the pro-Israel neocons.

    She cannot handle the heat, so she needs to get out of the kitchen. I am sure it hurts her fans that many of us are hard on her. I think the truth hurts. I think you all realize something is not right with your heroine, and you can't stand that we are willing to point out what you are unwilling to face.

    As for Sarah's stands on policies:

    1)"pro-life"...sorry, I believe a woman gets to decide what to do with her body

    2) pro-gun....sorry, I think this country is suffering from a violence epidemic, and if fewer guns were available we would be better off

    The fact is, Republicans want to privatize Medicare and Medicaid by giving recipient Vouchers to shop for medical insurance.

    Which insurance companies can easily deny treatment and ask for additional dollars. The fact is many of these recipients of Government subsides live on fixed incomes and can't afford any additional costs. That's the point!! Also, what about Seniors who are living in Nursing homes? They have no one to help them make these kinds of decisions. Ryan's Budget plan is ridiculous and most people know it, except for those like you who only see black and white.

    I was listening to a mother on the radio the other day who has a disabled child. She has to home school her child because the schools will not except him. She can't work because she has no one to take of her child while she's at work. She relies on Medicaid and Disability to survive. She was crying because she was worried about Republicans taking away her only income. So yes, republicans are cruel and they don't give a damn about the poor. What's important to them is making sure their rich cronies are richer.

    It's sad you have the galls to say that we are hateful, when you support a group of people who don't give damn about the poor and the middle class.

    Felicia, you're the one who is confused about Ryan's plan for prosperity. It will certainly make the rich more prosperous, however, it takes from the poor or middle class in order to do so. If you're under 55, I hope you have plenty of money saved because it will cost you an extra $20k a year for healthcare costs at the age of 65 in order to come close to the equivalent of what Medicare now covers. If you have greater than average health problems, are diabetic, have hypertension, etc., you can add an additional 10 to 20% to that amount. Imagine that, the average couple in their early 50's now hoping to retire in 15 years is told they will need an additional $40k a year for healthcare coverage. Do you consider that beneficial to the average person? President Obama was absolutely correct when he spoke of them taking away benefits. Of course, they aren't taking them from anyone who is now covered by Medicare despite their plan being so "wonderful" because they know they would lose their votes, not a doubt about it. They are cutting Medicaid drastically which means many special needs childs whose costs of care are not covered by private insurance will go on waiting lists for care. That includes those with Down Syndrome and autism. Of course, the Republicans don't want any further regulations put on the insurance companies, they have to be able to pay their executives tens of millions while cutting coverage for those in need. You've been duped by those in office. I can't understand how anyone who is not in the top 2% would ever vote for these people. Many in my family are in that upper range and they won't even vote for them. Of course, they tend to think with their hearts rather than with their wallets. Surprisingly, they haven't suffered from doing so proving that those who take care of others will benefit in the long run.

    Tell me, what did you think about the 200+ people who died under Palin's watch due to her mishandling of Medicaid funds? The feds had to come in and take over, a first for any state! What a record to be proud of-NOT!

    Are you aware that Paul Ryan's plan repeals Medicare and turns it into a voucher system? This will effectively apply to anyone 54 and under. We will now have to pay for private insurance in our senior years, right when our health care costs are the most expensive. We'll get some help from the government, but it won't be enough for most Americans to afford.

    I really don't get the Palin supporters' approval of this plan, especially considering how worked up you all got last year when she started talking about "death panels" that would exclude the elderly from needed health care.

    1. Pro-life. I fully support her stance. Life is precious. She's not trying to make it illegal. It's just her point of view. Why should you trash someone for wanting babies to have a chance at life? I don't get why that is a bad thing.

    2. Gun control. You can crab all you want about violence, but it's the criminals that are doing the shooting. If you take guns away from law abiding citizens, guess who will still have guns? That's right....criminals. Then we will have no way to defend ourselves. That argument doesn't even make sense.

    3. Entitlements - Medicare and Social Security are programs that you pay into during your life, so they're not exactly "entitlements". No one is trying to get rid of those programs. We're just trying to come up with a better way to execute them. The programs will not be solvent in just a few years. Reforms need to be made. Period.

    Unions - Yes, I have family members that are in unions. So what? I don't have a problem with unions, in theory. However, unions today are nothing more than a lobbying organization. Unions dues are used to support Democratic politicians, who in turn, do favors for the unions. There are a lot of people who work in unions, who do not want their dues going to Democrats.

    5. Big Government - I agree with you. GW Bush grew government way more than he should have, and he's been criticized for that many times. Shame on him. But just because he did it, doesn't mean that Obama should do it. Do you not realize that the biggest government becomes, the more they try to reach into your life and make decisions for you? You say you're pro-choice because you can do whatever you want with your body. But growing government will allow them to make many other decisions for you. Study some history.     Private voucher plans are a half-assed way to reform them. That completely undermines the programs' main purposes, which is to increase financial security. If we're lucky to even get that.

Create a justification and then go in regardless of whether or not it is merited - to make $$$$$, which they have, hand over fist. Just ask Mr. Cheney. While I am not surprised your family doesn't like the fact that many Democrats (who are traditionally pro-labor rights) are supported as candidates by the Unions, I am also quite sure that they would not want to give up the benefits and security that the Unions have provided to them. If your family is protected by the Unions but doesn't like the Democrats, then maybe they don't understand American Labor history, and maybe they care more about the social wedge issues that people like Karl Rove are manipulating them with. That's fine, but most of us care much more about putting food on the table. You and yours are more fortunate, it seems.

    You couldn't be more wrong. My kids are bi-racial, and I'm a divorced mom, and guess what? I feel perfectly at home in the conservative ranks. It's not about color or status. It's about mindset. That racial crap is so old.

    Just because someone is a single mother doesn't mean they need the government to step in and help them. I started going back to college after I had my 2nd child, and I got my degree. I worked my way up and I'm doing just fine, on my own.

    I wasn't born into a wealthy family, by any means, and I do just fine. Republicans are not all white, rich people, despite what you want people to believe. That's absurd. And anyone can achieve whatever they want to in life. You don't have to have the government hand it to you. I'm so sick of that mentality. So, because my kids are bi-racial, they're doomed to fail? Is that what you're telling me? My kids are great kids, and they make good grades in school. They have never been treated differently because of their color. I was never taught that it matters.     Felicia, I hate to tell you, the fact you have children who are bi-racial and that you can also proudly claim to be a life long Republican, well, I just hope when your kids grow up they tell you you are on the wrong side. They will likely figure it out. Most kids these days tend toward the progressive side, Young Republicans notwithstanding.

    Republicans DO NOT care about people of color, about anyone who is in the minority. Just look at their policies and the entire story is there. Sadly, we do not live in a post-racial America.

    Why are the vast majority of Republicans white Americans? Why, when looking at their political conventions, or their rallies, is there simply a sea of white faces? This is not an accident, this is not random. Most people who identify as non-Caucasian, whatever their background, know instinctively that the Republican party is not really on their side. Many affluent Latinos and African Americans know it as well, even when financially it might benefit them to go with the GOP.

    My belief about Democrats supporting those in need is not strictly a racial one - contrary to your assumptions. It is primarily a socio-economic one. I am talking about those with less, those who don't have access to good education they can afford, those who don't have access to proper healthcare they can afford, those who are stuck in bad neighborhoods with bad schools because of our screwed up property tax-funded public education system which simply perpetuates the problems associated with poverty.

    You are white, or of color? The father of your children is white, or of color? I actually think your resentment betrays you, if you are white.

    Perhaps you have some issues with people of color, never mind (or perhaps because) your children have a father of color. Maybe he isn't involved, who knows? You said you are a single parent.

    Correct me if you're the one of color, but I'm just saying.

    My wish for you is that someday you understand the best way to support those beautiful children of yours is to support the party of diversity, simply on principle if nothing else. (The Republican party, just a few generations ago, would have shunned, even harassed, your children. Doesn't that make you sick to your stomach?)

    PS The only reason I lean towards your being white is because you say you are a life long Republican. Just not that many African Americans running around proudly proclaiming that. Perhaps a few, but not many.

    PPS If you're white - and you never specified what you meant by bi-racial children - and your kids are half African American, well then they are like our fine President in background! Just ask Barack Obama if it's easy being him in today's America.

  98. 4/19/2011 Well, isn't that interesting. When I tried to view the video, the teabaggers did something to it so all I got was a page full of garbage. They are really running scared if they don't want anyone to watch this news video.
