The President's Weekly Address: Gas Prices & Energy Security
You know it takes a lot longer to actually spell out what we are doing to address the energy needs of this country when you don't simply rely on stupid slogans like "Drill here, drill now." But you have to admit it is also a hell of a lot more satisfying.
I am thrilled that the President is looking into so many possible alternatives to ease our reliance on fossils fuels. In my opinion using a several pronged approach to finding new clean energy alternatives will allow these technologies to develop and then the market can decide which one makes the most economic sense.
Can't get much more American than that.

I admire that man, our president, so much! Thank God we have him in office.
ReplyDeleteamen lynne.
ReplyDeleteWhat they said. (What drivel will follow our President's address? I cringe at the thought of the "energy expert" weighing in.)
ReplyDeleteHe has vision and puts forth solutions that we really could do if there wasn't so much ignorant opposition. History will judge him well, even if he doesn't win during his administration. The Republicans have devolved into the Party of No to Anything and Everything and have grown a "tumor" called the Tea Party. God help us all.
ReplyDeleteHe seems to be losing more weight and is so thin, I don't like that.
ReplyDeleteAlso, he keeps trying to get his message out using reason and logic, which flies over the head of so many in this country. I agree with Bill Maher, we need to go after and win the "heart" not the "mind" of the American people. That's why the Repubs skip over facts, facts be dammed, make up our own story, one that works for our party and run with it, all of us, media blitz. They have this down to a T.
While I admire President Obama being above thier sort of game, we could play it honestly and for the country. Win Hearts and Minds.
interesting article on how Palin continuously attacks our sitting democratically elected president during crises = international press says what the U.S. press won't.

I'm disappointed the president refuses to consider substantially higher taxes on gasoline. Phased in over several years, higher taxes would reduce demand and stabilize prices. It works in Europe and Asia, and even in Canada and Oz where they have long distance driving as in the US. To those who complain it would infringe on their God-given right to cheap gas for their monster truck, all I can say is put your dick back in your pants.
ReplyDeleteYou'll have to forgive this senior citizen who used to camp out at 4 a.m. in front of a gas station during the first oil crisis in the 70's, hoping to get a few gallons of gas for my 30 or so mpg VW, for cynically thinking so, NOW we're getting serious? Seriously? Luv my Prez, but what an effed up country we are.
ReplyDeleteuntil he actually puts these things into action instead of just talking a line, then I'll treat this like I would words from any other politician - just words. He was supposed to be for all this stuff 3 years ago and nothing tangible has shown up yet. I understand he's had a lot to deal with, but he's gone back on so many campaign promises (I'm specifically referring to Guantanamo staying open and him reauthorizing the Patriot Act) that I'm loathe to believe anything until I see it. I hate to say that too. I had such high hopes for him.
ReplyDeleteThis energy crisis is a bunch of BS. Obviously the people that are ok gas prices jumping up this high this fast either live in a big city, dont have far to drive, or have some money. I for one a college student out in rural Minnesota am a prisoner to these damn prices cause I have no other option but to drive my car. I love this country but as far as feeling like your free in it anymore I dont think so. With Gas prices you are caught what can you really do now days vacation maybe but maybe not exactly what you woould want to do. Gas prices hold you back from everything I go directly to and from school a forty mile round trip because i cant afford to do anything else this is bullshit who wants to live like that. Electric car i cant afford one of those neither can half of the people i know. You wait though keep supporting these gas prices you will find out this country will fall into hardship because I know for a fact out here in farming country many farmers are ready to throw in the towel because it just costs to much to farm these days. If you think we are in hardship now what will you think when food cant be grown because farmer joe with is not planting his three thousand acres cause he cant afford to then what?
