Despite numerous attempts by the MSM to kill it, was "babygate' the scandal that really finished Sarah Palin?

From the San Francisco Chronicle:

When McCain picked Palin, his campaign team thought the media would hail Palin as a fellow maverick, a moderate who could work with Democrats, and avoided polarizing social issues by, for example, vetoing a bill banning benefits for same-sex spouses of state workers. That is, Camp McCain expected the sort of in-depth look that Green provided in "The Tragedy of Sarah Palin."

They also thought that personal profiles would portray Palin as a pro-life Republican who walked the walk when she chose to give birth to a son with Down syndrome.

Alas and woe to her, Palin had the misfortune of walking onto the national stage in the era of the blogosphere. A Daily Kos blogger charged that Palin faked giving birth to Trig five months earlier in order to conceal her teenage daughter Bristol's pregnancy. Other bloggers, as well as British and Australian newspapers, joined the pile-on. That rumor was put to rest for all but the most ardent Palin "birthers" when Bristol turned out to be five months pregnant.

While most reputable American news outlets did not report the rumors, the Washington Post's Howard Kurtz wrote at the time that reporters deluged the campaign with questions "about the governor's amniotic fluid, the timing of her contractions and whether she would take a DNA test to establish the baby's parentage." Those questions enraged the McCainiacs.

Debra J. Saunders, who is the self described "Token Conservative" at the Chronicle. goes on to lament how this story, and others like it, pushed Palin into the "right wing gutter." Which then forced her to go all super radical right wing, and kept her from becoming the GOP Joan of Arc that Joshua Green of the Atlantic claims she might well have become. (BTW for those of us who are still connected to the real world, Craig Medred did a very respectable job of poking holes in Green's story.  Not exactly a daunting challenge for a journalist who actually lived through Palin's short and unremarkable tenure.)

Saunders is making some rather ridiculous assumptions, which I guess we have to forgive since she has undoubtedly NOT just read Geoffrey Dunn's book, and learned just what a terribly damaged individual Sarah Palin has always been.

However I want to focus on the possibility, which I had never considered before recently, that Palin was actually so freaked out by the questions concerning her bizarre "pregnancy" and Trig's crazy birth story, that it forever frightened her away from the media and helped push her toward Facebook, Twitter, and the occasional "interview" with the always supportive, and integrity free, Fox News to get her point of view out to her supporters.

Now one of the reasons that this resonates with me is because of  piece of information I learned recently (And that will be in the mystery book that I alluded to earlier) which absolutely supports this contention.

The idea that Palin was forced to essentially become a media recluse due mostly to her fear of being asked babygate questions, is one that I certainly hope turns out to be factual.  Especially since I have been fending off slings and arrows from a number of peers who wanted me to drop this story for over two years now.

(I admit it. I am not above a desire for some vindication on this subject.)

And like I said, I already have some additional information to back this possibility up.

However let me just reiterate that the issue of Palin faking her pregnancy should no longer be in the rumor category.  I have long had access to information that left NO doubt that Sarah Palin did not give birth to Trig Palin, but I could never get anybody to go on the record.  It does very little good to SAY you know something is factual if you cannot PROVE it is factual.

But all of that changed with Shailey Tripp.  Shailey was the first person willing to say on the record that Sarah Palin simply was not pregnant.

The only reason that people could still pretend that there is not evidence to prove that Sarah Palin did not  give birth to Trig Paxson Van Palin on April 18, 2008. would be to call Shailey's credibility into question.  And yes I realize that as an ex-prostitute that may seem easy to accomplish, but don't forget that Shailey was subjected to numerous polygraph tests and passed them all with flying colors, as did some of her friends who also knew the circumstances of her story.

Some of you have been asking what has happened to Shailey, fear not she is fine, and we are currently working to bring her story to a much wider audience. 

And hers is not the ONLY story we are working on to finally prove beyond any reasonable doubt that Sarah Palin is perhaps the biggest fraud to EVER burst onto the national political stage.

I have long said that babygate would be the story that could put the final nails into Sarah Palin's political coffin, and it looks like there is a good chance I am about to be proven right.
