It's comparable to rape victims seeing their rapists jailed and murder victims' families seeing the murderer dead or jailed for life. We are visual people and Sarah is not alone.

But neither of us even considered that someone would want the picture released as means of a deterrent. Sarah is way-off base with that one and deserves ANY media attack this should create. ReplyDeleteObviously President Obama had to weigh all sides of this issue before coming to this decision. I do think it would further serve bin Laden's martyrdom in some quarters, and would of course potentially inflame retaliatory impulses around the world. On a different note, there are Muslims who are decrying bin Laden's burial, saying he was treated with too much respect, in fact, given that he was not a true member of their faith.
I'll leave that to them, but in the meantime I wonder, as others have, whether or not some of the families could be allowed to see photos or videos so they could testify to the other survivors? I don't think all families are interested in personally doing this, but they may appreciate having one of their tragic group reassure them.
Surely they are as committed to knowing the truth as any and their word would satisfy most people. In other words, they would have no reason to say he was dead if he wasn't. They could gather a representative and diverse group to do this.

They were sold to Reuters (Reuters says they're confident they're real). I took a peek. They were worse than I thought they'd be. I originally wanted to see a photo of Osama's dead body, just for closure to know it was really him that was dead. Now, I'm not so sure.

I was listening to the radio today and there were a lot of people who thought that the chants of USA USA on the night that it was announced that bin Laden was dead were in poor taste. We have to thank Sky News and Murdoch for showing that all over Europe.

It has been made clear that two of the reasons for not "bomb(ing) the place into rubble" were 1) to minimize injury or death to innocent people in the compound and 2) to preserve as much intelligence information as possible. It was a wise decision as they found a wealth of computers, CDs, discs, jump drives, etc.

Whoever made the comment that the photos should be shown to the 9/11 victims' families if they ask to see them is 100% correct. They're the ones who have a truly personal stake in this and it could mean closure for them. To release gruesome pix to the general public would mean they'd be all over the Internet, in newspapers and on TV constantly--in other words, shoved in our faces 24/7 by the media. The images wouldn't serve to make any point because they'd be immediately picked apart by the doubters. What it COULD do is spike a reprisal that would harm or kill tens of thousands. Then SP and her RW cohorts would be screeching that it was all because Pres. Obama released the photos they were originally foaming at the mouth to gloat over. Blowing Bin Laden to bits and not having proof of his death would never do for the American people. For that reason this could have been a decoy mission to bring closure to the American people. The effect is positive so far.

The very unlikely possibility is that Bin Laden was shot dead when he could have easily been captured alive as we know now.
I would favour the theory that Bin Laden was killed before this mission and the US knew he was dead. Therefore he can't talk and tell all the secret. But it's also a good possibility that he is alive and captured.
Americans shouldn't just believe what they want to believe. They should look at all the facts and then come to a logical assumption.
Pictures are needed now to put it to rest. The pictures need to be convincing and not pictures of a person who could be Osama or is Osama and is drugged and made up to look like he is dead.

Sarah Palin consults with her protege and current propagandist Jeremy Morlock and shares their methods of claiming victory over an enemy - as with the Palins' long history of posing with dead animals they've killed, to bolster their self esteem, post pictures of the dead so everyone can see how 'tough, macho, and bloodthirstily patriotic' they are...
ReplyDeleteWhile Ms. All American Palin forgot to have pics taken of herself with her crosshairs victims in AZ and missed that photo op to self aggrandize, Mr. Morlock does one better than Palin - he also mutilates the bodies and collects them as mementos for fond future memories and bragging rights and gleefully poses for pictures of himself with the dead, naked,unarmed 15 year old civilian noncombatant boy, as well as several other innocent unarmed civilian noncombatants.
Sarah Palin is so proud of Mr. Morlock, because after all, it's not enough to kill - you have to show your glory to the world, to display your cajones, make those not one of us around the world cower in fear. Displaying your trophies, animal or human is a must in their world and highly recommended to the President; if he doesn't, of course, this will be proof OBL is not really dead,it didn't really happen 'cause he's not manly or white enough to have done the job.
That it is disgusting to 99% of the thinking world matters not - only their 'American Values' are worthwhile. That this, as with the Koran burning preacher bigot's actions, places our young military personnel at increased risk of harm the world over is beyond their intellectual comprehension.
I do not equate innocent unarmed civilians with Osama Bin Laden, he deserved to die. I'm glad justice has been done but America does not need to display gruesome pictures of OBL to 'threaten' the world with our power - in the same fashion as animal and human trophy hunters Sarah Palin and the likes of Jeremy Morlock do.
America is such a great nation - we don't need to descend to that level of indecency, cheapness, and vulgarity, no matter how much Sarah Palin screeches this. When you think about the harm this woman and her followers have caused her country, her family, and their friends - one only needs to look at Jeremy Morlock - growing up in an environment that fosters disrespect and a lack of human compassion for others.
He is, in a very real way, a victim of learning to dehumanize 'others' and will forever pay the price for it - not Ms. Palin, the Morlock adults, nor the others that made up his family's social group - the ones that taught him this crap. This is what they preach, teach, and foment amongst themselves, their children, and now the world - if that's what God, Jesus, and the American Way is all about - God help us, I want nothing to do with them!
Has the media given Sarah credit for bin Laden's death yet? The mission would have never succeeded if it weren't for the inspiration and prayer she's been sending to our mighty warriors. This victory is a manifestation that God's chosen her to lead us all. Did you know she used to be a hockey mom?

ReplyDeleteI would like the photo to be released for proof purposes, just because with a figure like him you want to see it. Not to enjoy it, or warn others off, or revel in it, but for finality. The WH has chosen not to release it. Unfortunate. But it is what it is. For Sarah to send this ridiculous message that we should show him off like a trophy is sick.
Now you know why SP will never be president and why she quit the governorship. She doesn't have the Right Stuff.
