Sarah Palin wants to show to the Republican right that she is the true keeper of the Ronald Reagan flame by meeting the late president's closest ally on the world stage.
A meeting with Margaret Thatcher in the centenary year of Reagan's birth would be the perfect way of launching her bid for the Republican nomination for the 2012 US presidential election.
This is what Palin told Christina Lamb in the Sunday Times:
"I am going to Sudan in July and hope to stop in England on the way. I am just hoping Mrs Thatcher is well enough to see me as I so admire her."
It appears that the former prime minister has no intention of meeting the darling of the Tea Party movement. Andy McSmith reported in the Independent this morning that Palin is likely to be "thwarted" on the grounds that Thatcher, 86, rarely makes public appearances.
It would appear that the reasons go deeper than Thatcher's frail health. Her allies believe that Palin is a frivolous figure who is unworthy of an audience with the Iron Lady. This is what one ally tells me:
"Lady Thatcher will not be seeing Sarah Palin. That would be belittling for Margaret. Sarah Palin is nuts"
I was going to add a little snark to the end of this post, but there is really nothing I could say that is as perfect as that last quote.

The revelation was more recent, but the onset was quite a bit ago.
If Dame Thatcher can't complete a sentence, she might be one of the few people on this planet to make Palin appear eloquent in conversation.

When I and others in the legislature found out we had some millions of dollars in Sudan, we called for divestment through legislation of those dollars to make sure we weren’t doing anything that would be seen as condoning the activities there in Darfur.”
Which is exactly what she did not do when it mattered.
As the legislative session was ending, and there was no chance that the bill could even be brought up for vote, she had another aide say that she’d changed her mind and now supported the it. However, as the Washington Post reported, that was only after it was clear that time had run out.

The dynamo trio came in May 27 and left the city May 29. While in town they helped send the son of their best couple friends, Marty Nesbitt and his lovely wife, Dr. Anita Blanchard, off to his prom. Alex graduates from the University of Chicago Lab School this month and is heading to Harvard. Also, Malia attended a bar mitzvah of a close friend. Everything went very smoothly and they were in and out of the Windy City without the press getting wind of it. Dear ol’ dad was busy elsewhere running the country.

What happened you ask? It is embarrassing for Sarah Palin to go on a family vacation of the east coast and your children do not want to go with you as your props.
Sarah Palin: "A family vacation of one? Uh screw my family. I think I'll go to Sudan and get a photo op with some blacks and then head out to Pakistan for a photo op with Bin Laden".
George Clooney does a lot of good work in Sudan. I saw him interviewed about two months ago and he had Malaria for the second time from going to Sudan. I hate that for George he really has a good heart and does not do good for attention. I usually do not wish harm to anyone, but Sarah is so evil I hope she finds out first hand what these poor people have to endure. If she contacts malaria it will make her think twice about going again for a photo op.

Gov Parnell (who she appointed when she quit and he has since been elected - Alaskans are absolute idiots!), after near three years, is releasing all of them except about 3,000 that he has deemed to be too personal and government business releated. Parnell is on record for continuing to protect Palin! He would not do a public release of the emails for the world to see. The national press requested them years ago and MSNBC indicated yesterday that once they received them they would put them on line so that ALL could download and review them. Neat!!!!

We in Alaska expect them to show Palin's husband, Toad, as being the one that actually did the work as gov and it is on record she 'hated the job' and found the work to be 'too hard'!
Our State Legislature could never find her (they actually had pins made that they wore showing her photo with the quote 'Where's Sarah?"!!!
