New pictures emerge of Rep. Gabby Giffords.

Courtesy of the Daily Beast:

A much clearer picture has emerged of how Arizona Rep. Gabrielle Giffords is doing, and it's a comforting look. Two photos of a smiling Giffords were posted early Sunday on her public Facebook page by her aides. Her hair is shorter, but there are few other signs of her gunshot wound to the head five months ago in Tucson. Giffords has been in a Houston rehab facility since Jan. 26, two weeks after the deadly shooting that killed six and injured another 13, including Giffords. Her spokeswoman, Pia Carusone, cautioned that Giffords still has a long way to go in her recovery, but she said Friday that Giffords could be released sometime this month.

I have to say that this is a very pleasant sight this Sunday morning.

You can find an additional picture here of Giffords with her mother.

Every time they show or write about Gabby they need to remind people about granny quitters role in her shooting.

For someone who had the kind of horrendous head trauma she experienced, she looks wonderful! Although her eyes are not quite matched, her smile seems strong on both sides and her expression is clear and focused...which is truly amazing!

She has a very long, difficult road ahead of her but with the best medical care available, the determination to succeed, and the obvious support of her husband and family, she will undoubtedly achieve the greatest recovery she is physically capable of making.

I wish her and her family the very best...she is a courageous, intelligent, principled woman and we need more like her in this world.

It's great to see that she's up and smiling, and ready to go on with life.
I can only hope that she will walk triumphantly into Congress to a standing ovation, and give a speech about civility and not TARGETING people with nasty inflammatory rhetoric. (This means YOU Scorpion Snooki PAYlin)

Note: She's no longer Snowdrift SNooki, because she's divorced Todd, moved to Zona, and embraced the Gila Monster called KARMA!

  4. She looks great! What good news these pictures are.

Good luck to Congresswoman Giffords! Our thoughts and prayers are with you as you continue to rehab.
In other news: As part of the divorce settlement between Todd and Sarah (as per the Enquirer) Todd must do some PR appearances with the former wife. How's that for Karma?!! Gryphen 1, Quitter zip.

And even more remarkable, the trolls at HP are silent with their inevitable snark.

Great photo's and it's warming to see her back and smiling.

Long road but I have faith in her strength

Take a breather- Pretty inspiring story. The kid called me just as he was getting discharged from the hospital- because he had never met me- was unconscious the whole time...

    The story is below.

(Leave a comment there if you are so inclined. There is more to the story- as this is the last chapter of it)

And these pix were before she had surgery to replace missing skull. So the indentation is probably not noticeable now.

It's terrific to see this bright light called 'Gabby Giffords'!!

My heart felt like it stopped when the other pic flashed on TV first as I thought some photographer had snapped it and leaked it from her attendance in Florida.

My heart and my head, which don't always agree but did at that second -- I had a 'hate on' for whoever leaked the pics. It was not until the news person finally spoke as he said nothing as an introduction to the pics but only after showing them, then said they were from her FB page.

Every step she takes toward full recovery is a source of inspiration. She is truly a strong woman who is weathering the kind of adversity that would have knocked many others down. God bless Rep. Giffords and her family.

best of wishes to her, glad to see she seems to be recovering so well...and I still feel bad for those that lost loved ones on that tragic day.. And I am ashamed that a nasty little twit from Alaska was so shameless
to put a target on this women's district. And yet the media chase this nasty thing around with vigor after all
the destructive things she has done? It's sickening

God bless you Gabby Giffords! May your recovery continue to be miraculous. We love you!

(I cannot believe Crosshair Cross-Eyed Sarah Palin has the galling insensitivity to move to AZ. Well, anyone who would put crosshair targets on a congresswoman....and then issue a "blood libel" video...is obviously insane. This is the same person who talks about Paul Revere as a second amendment hero who warned the British. INSANE.)

What a testament to faith, hope, and courage.

And, Queen Esther, if you're reading this, you will always be an accomplice in her unfortunate fate. Enjoy that granite AZ palace knowing you had a hand in this. But you DON'T have a conscience, do you? Of course you don't.

Wondeful to see her - what a beautiful smile!!

I still blame Palin for her part in this...crosshairs map and naming specific people to include Gabby.

I had just seen this picture on TPM before coming to IM, and as I was about to click on your URL, I thought "I bet Gryphen has posted this on his site too." Sure enough you had. Thanks for reminding us there are still some lights in the world.

What a blessing to see her warm smile and to know that she's recovering nicely after such a horrendous tragedy. She makes us very proud ~ and grateful to be able to witness this miracle.

May God continue to bless you and yours!

    Wonderful picture !

Unfortunately, you have your typical palinbot reaction to this news - here a couple of examples:

"The Gabrielle Gifford saga is completely sexist and classist. If a working class man were shot in the head, no one would really care."

"Amazing the level of health care you can get as a member of congress. A person without health care coverage and lesser known would be dead by now."

"This is in no way the kind of superior healthcare you or I'd receive through Obamacare."

Palinbots really ARE the dregs of society. Sad.

I don't blame Palin for the shooting itself but I do blame her for trying to gain advantage afterward with her blood libel speech. I've never witnessed a more disgusting display of narcissism.

I sincerely hope that Gabby can return to Congress but if she is unable I'm sure she will campaign for the people and causes she cares about. What a powerful voice she will have.

Let us not forget the other victims of this shooting.

Sarah Palin may not have been directly involved but her pro-gun and pro-violence rhetoric heavily contributed to the deaths and injured at Gabby's political event in Tucson.

I was hoping Sarah would have nightmares over these deaths and Gabby's grievous head injury, but I doubt it. Psychopaths don't have feelings so it probably doesn't even enter her childlike mind.

  24. Bless her and her family. Can't help but notice the trach scar. What this woman has been through.

I hope those stirring up people with hateful rhetoric realize that whether this incident is related or not that words have consequences especially when it come to those who are mentally unstable.

Lame excuses for the "Lamestreammedia" excusing Paylin's part in this tragedy is beyond belief.

There can be no denial that Gabby Gifford's, face, title, and whereabouts were all a part of the crosshairs message sick Mansour and Paylin sent out.

If not, then why didn't the gunman go shoot some other group gathering or shoot up a convenient store?

He had to wait until the corner gathering, announced and broadcast in advance as to time, place and date occurred.

Of course he got his information and planned accordingly, after seeing Paylin/Mansour's hatefilled poster that appeared all over the US previous to the proposed meeting with Gifford's constituents.

We didn't just fall off a turnip truck, and venomous, vicious, sick people like Paylin/Mansour are at the root of planting seeds for horrendous acts by depraved followers.

Gabby is a resillant, strong, compassionate woman and deserves everyone's respect, thoughts and prayers.
She has a long, difficult road ahead. Surviving a tramatic head wound, in itself, is a testament to her spirit. She'll need our support as she comes to realize what happened that horrendous day. I wish her and her family all the best.

She looks wonderful. Truly a miracle brought on by heaven, those who helped her in the minutes after the shooting and the amazing amount of work through medical staff.

She may have a long way to go but I am rooting for her.

I pleased for her and her friends and family.

But for a second let's consider what condition of the other people who were wounded that day.

Giffords, has "free" cadillac health insurance X2 hers and her husband's, and she is presumably still getting full salary.

What kinds of financial sacrifices are the other victims and their families having to make to cover the medical costs, lost income, lost employer sponsored insurance etc.

Would Giffords have been targeted if Palin had not targeted her? Would the murderer have been able to legally have access to a gun and ammunition? The NRA and and its supporters have much guilt to bear.

The surgeons have done an amazing job of rebuilding the bone around the eye socket, patching the skull, and grafting skin. She looks human.

The halves of her face do not match, and may never match. Her eyes are not level. The space between eye and brow, the tilting of the eye, the shape of the lids... different. The hairline (under the fringe) is too far back, however, she has a scalp that *can* grow hair.

Yet, her gaze is focused and her smile is warm. Human.

If the core... personality and the ability to think... can recover, the surface doesn't really matter. The smile matters.

Gabby looks pretty damned good for someone shot through the brain. I'm quite relieved to see a present picture of her.

  36. Has the oh-so-christian Sister Sarah visited Giffords yet? or called her? or sent a get-well card, or perhaps a contribution to help the other victims of the shooting?
