NewsCorp attempted to hack phones of 9-11 victims. Now America is a player in this scandal. Update!

Courtesy of the Sydney Morning Herald:

A New York police officer has claimed besieged British tabloid the News of the World attempted to hack into the voicemails of victims of the 9/11 terror attacks, as Rupert Murdoch arrived in London for emergency talks aimed at diffusing the international crisis surrounding his media empire.

Rival red-top newspaper the Mirror reported the officer was contacted by News of the World journalists who said they would pay him to retrieve the private phone records of the dead.

Now working as a private investigator, the ex-officer claimed reporters wanted the victims' phone numbers and details of the calls they had made and received in the days leading up to the atrocity.

The voicemails would likely include harrowing messages from desperate loved ones trying to make contact with their relatives caught up in the 2001 terror strikes on the World Trade Center, in which thousands perished.

I believe that this might be the beginning of the end of Fox News as a viable news source in America.

I know that Fox has not been publicly connected to this scandal, but now that it has reached the shores of America I would be willing to bet that news of involvement by Fox News will not be far behind.

What's more if we DON'T hear of that involvement, I, and many others by the way, will ALWAYS believe there was a cover up.  The idea that this was so widespread in England, and that the company responsible did not do the same thing here in America, just seems naive to me.

I mean if they were willing to attempt to hack the bank and medical records of Prime Minister Gordon Brown, what in the world makes us believe that Murdoch's "journalists" would fear doing the very same thing in THIS country?

What do you all think?

Update: It looks like CREW (Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington) are on the same page:

“Given the ever-increasing number of Murdoch publications involved, combined with the allegation that News Corp. journalists sought access to the voicemails of 9/11 victims and their families, America cannot leave this investigation entirely to the British. Congress should immediately initiate its own inquiry,” said Ms. Sloan. “Politicians in Washington may not be able to agree on much these days, but at the very least they should be able to agree that efforts to hack the phones of those killed in the worst terrorist attack in American history merits thorough public hearings.”

Stay tuned to witness how hard the Republicans push back against this.

  2. Wonder if the republicans will cover for them.
Think, if fox goes down or is severely crippled, how that will affect our 2012 elections.

How will those republicans have favorable coverage? Who will white wash their lies?
What will sarah do if she doesn't have fox news to go on?
No running for her. She'd have to run her campaign by twitter or Facebook.

I think Sarah should come out against Murdoch. I mean we all know how she hates hacking, having put a teenager in prison for hacking her not legal Yahoo account.

    C'mon Sarah--speak out!

Rupert won't hunt you down like an injured caribou or anything.

I think this story has legs and hope to soon see FOX News implicated too. If Rupert's people are hacking phones, you can bet they will not limit themselves to just one newspaper.

Hey, I thought I read that you were going camping. Too much news for that.

  6. How is that camping trip going Gryph? Just checking 'cause you sure have a lot of posts up from your campsite :) Maybe there are more "current" bushes in your site that we have down here in the Lower 48.

I hope these reprehensible acts bring down Fox News and talk radio haters such as Limbaugh. With the airwaves cleaned up, less hate to be spread around infecting those who cannot think for themselves.

I think you are very naive if you think that Murdoch will suffer any consequences.

No dirt will EVER be made public under the guise of "national security."

    I mean, think about it.

Politicians in the UK and here in the US know that as soon as they go after Murdoch for real, he will go after them and spill everything he knows about them.

Who do you think will blink first?

I hope they are investigated as heavily in the U.S. as is being done in Britian. I want to see FOX go down along w/their 'so called' journalists i.e. O'Reilly, Hannity and Greta. Couldn't happen to a better bunch. O'Reilly has already been show to secure news unethically.

  18. I'm not a 'tin foil hat' person, but I interviewed William Rodriguez on KPFK radio in Los Angeles in 2007 and he's a totally credible witness to this infamous day. William was the maintenance worker who saved hundreds of lives because he had one of just five master keys to the WTC complex. He climbed the stairs with the firefighters and opened doors for them on the way to attempt to save his friends in the rooftop restaurant. Unfortunately, they all died, and William was the "last man out" just as the second tower fell. William's testimony that "there was an explosion in the basement before the first plane hit" was ignored by the 9/11 Commission. This guy is a real hero and he even refused the millions in hush money because he refused to sign the Bush Adm.'s non-disclosure agreement.

I write this to contrast what a REAL man acts like under these dire circumstances. To put the cowardly villain Rupert Murdoch in the same paragraph as Rodriguez seems wrong . . . Hopefully, Rupert's dastardly acts will bring down the evil FOX news and his entire evil "empire."

  19. Despicable - if it is true.

Palin should quit complaining about the Press. She might find her phone messages hacked one of these days.....now THAT would be richly deserved!!

But seriously though - invading someone's privacy like that, Palin included, is terrible. If that's the way these so called journalists get the "news" then they are missing something....

I remember Cheney insisted that all the TV's in the WH HAD to be tuned to Fox. Plus when he travelled, the hotels all had to be tuned to Fox. Seems to me that Dirty Dick and Uncle Rupert would be firm friends, both EVIL to the core. I wonder if Palin has had her home TV studio checked for hidden recording devices? No doubt she was monitored also, too!!

I'm willing to bet that the Fox empire is implicated in this mess too. Roger Ailes has been a dirty trickster since the Nixon days. His teaming up with Murdoch makes for some pretty scary possibilities.

Even Sarah Palin may be worrying that her in-the-house Fox studio has been providing her bosses with more information about her than she would like. Not such a good idea to put a recording studio in your own house!

    ReplyDelete
  24. Of course they were doing the same thing here. We have lots of corrupt law enforcement who would gladly take money to divulge the information and they won't come forward like the guy who is outing their request for him to illegally supply information. Murdock and son will be protected and never spend one day in prison. After all we have laws that a corporation is a person yet employees who break the law are protected from criminal charges. The government will go through the motions of an investigation, but in the end not much will happen. Whoever has the money and power gets to make the rules in the US.

I've figured they've bugged offices or intercepted phone calls for years. When John Kerry ran for president, the opposing party seemed to know everything he was doing and counter every move. As soon as the convention was over and Kerry presented his war-hero persona, the Swift Boaters were already prepared with their attack plan, and the ads were up and running. You can bet they've targeted the DNC headquarters, Moveon, Union offices, liberal news anchors, etc.

The "terror attacks" of Sept. 11, 2001 were an inside job perpetrated by factions of the Bush government. There is no other explanation for the multiple explosions at many areas, heard by hundreds of witnesses; the rapid explosive collapses of these massive buildings at free-fall speed after only an hour of kerosene induced fires; the collapse and total destruction of WTC 7, not hit by any plane, that appears just like a controlled demolition; the lack of any evidence that a 757 impacted the Pentagon, including no photos or videos of the plane, nor a realistic damage zone; the absolute and utter failure of the air defense system; the presence of active nano-thermites in the rubble of the WTC; liquid metal under all three building for months afterwards, and; much more. There is no doubt that the "terror attacks" were really a black op carried out to sell the endless "war on terror" and invasion of Afghanistan and Iraq that followed. See the documentary "911 Mysteries-The Demolitions" for more.

Hmmmmmm, if true, why would they (NewsCorp) have done that (hack into the phone lines of victims . . . . of 9/11)? And why would they have hacked into the phones of the families of soliders who died . . . . while fighting on our side in Iraq and Afghanistan??? I have an idea why: could it be because the Saudis own at least 7% of the stock of NewsCorp (parent company of Fox News)??

(The stock is held by Prince Alwaleed bin Talal. You know, the guy who funded the Ground Zero Mosque? Yeah, that's him: the same guy who gave rewards to the families of Palestinian suicide bombers.)

Somehow, hacking into the phones of families of dead soldiers who fought in Iraq and Afghanistan, and the phones of 9/11 victims, takes the phrase "blaming the victim" to a whole new level.

If Fox is reporting stories provided by the UK Murdoch properties and those were sourced by these methods, Fox is utterly complicit. I think Murdoch is standing by Rebekah Brooks because she can prove he knew all about it. What's more, Les Hinton came from Murdoch's UK operation to the US and is currently running Murdoch's Dow Jones operation. So you're seeing a lot of blending between the US and UK Murdoch businesses.

Sarah Jones on Politicus radio for latest details.

    http://tinyurl.com/6fuxdkl

She said that stockholders of NewsCorp (Murdoch's USA news company) have FILED A LAWSUIT against Murdoch.

Of course some of their motivation is due to declining stock value,
    but it's a great development.

Murdoch is being hit with serious actions, police investigation, and lawsuits in Britain, USA, Australia, and India

Let's hope that there is even more to this scandal, and that some of the NewsCorp staff here are willing to go to the Justice Dept, the FBI,
or local New York cops and spill the beans.

Couldn't happen to a more vicious, nasty, partisan asshole than Murdoch, and his crew of lying manipulative idiots like Roger Ailes and Rebekah Brooks.

Sarah Jones also suspects that Andrew Breitbart may be implicated because he's tweeted some details that remain unexplained as to source.

The real hope is that if Murdoch's staff are convicted, that his FCC licenses to broadcast here in the USA (Fox network ) could be in jeopardy.

Please read the following article because it signals another level on the war on women in this country.

A three-person panel decided to defund Planned Parenthood in New Hampshire. Many states have done this but this story goes further by including the rationale behind the decision.

Read this at your own peril - it could raise your blood pressure if you care about the women or girls in your life or if you are concerned about the lack of antibiotics for urinary infections or STD infections amongst the poor and working classes.

    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/07/11/new-hampshire-planned-parenthood_n_894991.html

One of the guys who made this decision (you will be amazed how three people could have done this) said:

"If they want to have a good time, why not let them pay for it?" - Councilor Raymond Wieczorek of Manchester, New Hampshire.

Mr. Wiexzorek is not only against abortion, he is against birth control of any form and condoms (apparently he doesn't mind the spread of HIV/AIDS and other STDs - for which no affordable antibiotics can be had through PP now).

Women and low-income families cannot afford $40 to $100 a month for birth control pills. Who can except the very well-do-to middle class and the wealthy.

This is not stopping in NH. The far-right GOP/TP is going after contraceptives now that they've been successful in so many places on abortion access.

Imagine the consequences of not providing birth control, antibiotics or even condoms on families who cannot afford large families, on women who get raped, or girls who are victims of date rape or incest. They could die of simple urinary infections if they cannot access affordable antibiotics.

How cruel can these bastards be? How much to they hate women?

  49. Agree that Murdoch, family and assorted hangers on are in trouble, but doubt that this means the end of Fox News. Murdoch may need to sell off chunks of his empire and various flunkies may be hauled off to jail, but someone from America's 1% (Koch brothers maybe) will unfortunately step in to fill the void. But until then, Fox is definitely on the defensive and are devoting little air time to the ongoing investigations of their boss:

Citizens of the U.S. have to get off their asses and do the same. You can't sit on your ass reading a blog and commenting and watch CREW be the one doing the heavy lifting. It takes a hell of a lot more than that to push for investigations as you know full well the push back will be big from the Rethugs.

    http://www.mediaite.com/tv/foxs-brit-hume-compares-obama-justice-department-to-nixons-strong-stench-of-cover-up/

Let's try to paint the Justice Department as unethical when they are about to investigate us. Damn, they are so good at this.

There is nothing on their webpage.

We have to fight and fight hard. Little by little their trying to make us into a communist country, you can see it happening, teachers, so there's no education, medicare, social security, police, , all the money goes to the big business. Take over the world and rule it. This will be worse then germany under hitler. We have to bring Murdock down and the Koch bros.

For Mr. Murdoch to keep the focus off of himself and his various enterprises for the requisite amount of time will be quite a project. He could start with the story of Gov. Palin's 5th child, of course, but it needs more legs. So next comes Sen. McCain. What did he and the 2008 GOP campaign know about Gov. Palin?

Branching out from there, possibilities include the Sen. McCain/Rev.(?) Paxton connection, or Gov. Romney's knowledge gleaned from Mr. Shmidt(sp?). It all depends on how long Mr. Murdoch feels under pressure in, this, his adopted country.

The most powerful and rich people on the planet can access the phones, emails, internet activities and financial transaction records of anyone they want. They can, because corruption exists.

The fact that a media empire uses that ability to get dirt for tabloids should be the least of your worries.

Think more along the lines of wealth and power being concentrated globally into fewer and fewer hands.

Hopefully all the people hacked will end up suing Murdoch and his corrupt empire. He just might not have enough money left after paying everyone off to carry on with his discriminatory hate mongering. What's that they say about "karma" -- oh, yeah, it can come back and bite you in the butt.

Now, when is Paylin going to get her come uppins? Don't you think she is due, also.

  74. The proper thing would be to appoint an Independent Council because politicians cannot be trusted to do what is right.

Seeing that Roger Ailes, Fox & the GOP are in bed together; & knowing how President Obama & Eric Holder have been reluctant to investigate & charge against the crimes of the Bush* Administration, our only hope is giving carte blanch to an Independent Investigator.

And if that means political heads will roll, then so be it.

You know how many have perceived the Democrats over the years as being without a spine - to stand up against the bullying of the GOP? I've always figured that those Dems had blackmail, extortion or something about themselves or family members hung over their heads.

Elliot Spitzer went after Wall Street crimes & out comes a sex crime.

Anthony Weiner was going after the crimes of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, & out comes his bulging tweets.

    I don't trust Fox.

  75. Ok Sarah, its time to call bullshit.

You can no longer stake ANY moral high ground in ANY discussion. PERIOD.

And its not just because of all the lies you've told, the people you've used & disposed of, or the way you've abused your children. Its not even about your shameless grifting, media whoring, and outright corruption.

No, you hypocritical bitch, its the fact that you're pocketing a paycheck from a man whose company hacked a 13yr old MURDERED CHILD'S cell phone. PERIOD.

You get on your moral high horse and bore the world with your thoughts on everything from Arnold's love brat to Weiner's weiner and you remain silent about THIS??

You claim to be some kind of exceptional mother that was "chosen by God" for the "honor" of having a DS kid. Yet you put food in their mouths with money earned from a man whose company DELETED messages on a MURDERED CHILD'S phone, cruelly leading her parents to believe she was still alive!!

Where is your outrage? Why aren't you denouncing NOW as viciously as you do anything Obama? Especially when you yourself were hacked.

Why are you passing up this golden opportunity to play your favorite role?...VICTIM!!!

I'll tell you why, you hypocritical bitch. MONEY. They wave it in front of you and like the good stripper you are, you shake your money-makers for the camera.

Your MILLION $$$ salary is blood money lady. Made at the expense of ordinary people. People like the parents of that MURDERED CHILD. And I hope that every time you open your ugly mouth to spew bile at someone else, you get called on it.

PS..BTW, I guess the "lamestream media" is ok when they're doing glossy photo spreads on you huh?

Republicans will cover for Murdoch and Fox probably because Murdoch and Fox has them be the short-n-curlys.

Come on, if they have been hacking into voice mail over there, you know they are doing it here. God knows what Murdoch has on the Republicans.

Well, in light of what we now know about Murdoch, and knowing how hand-n-hand the Republican party is with the Fox news empire.....

I wonder if they picked Sarah because they had such really nasty goods on her??? I mean, they could have picked a different, much more attractive Republican woman to run with McCain, but they picked her???

If they did pick her because of all her bagage, that means they wanted somebody studid that they could totally control. She fits that bill to a T.

It's about the control of women and keeping poor people down.

To say it is too expensive to help fund birth-control - that is delusional. It costs way, way more to go through a pregnancy and to give birth.

If people wanted to truly end abortians, they would be handing out birth control like it was candy. But, strangely enough, these men--they are mostly men--are against birth control.

If somebody has a child, they are less likely to quit their job, no matter how bad it is or how much their salary shrinks. They just can't quit because then their children would suffer. If poor people have children, they can't afford to revolt.

You know, the military has encouraged families because it creates stability in the military. People are far less likely to leave after their 6 or 8 years if they have to give up all the things that help military families out.

It's the same thing with your corporate overlords and religious nazis. They don't want you to get fed up and stop doing their bidding. They want you to be their slaves.
