Morality is not determined by the church you attend nor the faith you embrace. It is determined by the quality of your character and the positive impact you have on those you meet along your journey

Somehow despite Wolf Blitzer's involvement CNN manages to be exciting for once.
You can read more about this exchange here, including this rather interesting bit of information:
Morgan later used his show to press his point further. He also flashed the excerpt from his book in which he recounts how someone had warned him that his phones could be hacked.
"Apparently, if you don't change the standard security code that every phone comes with, then anyone can call your number and, if you don't answer, tap in the standard four-digit code to hear all your messages," he wrote. "I'll change mine just in case, but it makes me wonder how many public figures and celebrities are aware of this little trick.
One commentator on a British gossip website asked: "Why would he mention such a trick unless he was smugly hinting at what was taking place while he was an editor?" Another wondered if Mensch had "hit a nerve?"
Among the pair's Twitter messages, Morgan asked journalists to buy his book, saying it was a "good read."
Mensch Tweeted: "New American readers may wish to know the circumstances in which Morgan left the Mirror."
He was fired in 2004 after authorizing the publication of photographs allegedly showing British Army soldiers torturing Iraqis — but which were actually fakes.
I am not personally a fan of Piers Morgan, and have not bothered to watch the time slot that once belonged to Larry King, except for once when Bill Maher made an appearance on the program. I liked Maher, but found Morgan insufferable.
Personally I do not find it much of a stretch to consider that Morgan might very well have been involved in the phone hacking, and it is my hope that law enforcement should investigate him to find out one way or the other.
Seems fair, right?
BTW I should admit that I AM a fan of MP Louise Mensch, and found her grilling of Rupert Murdoch while he was testifying before Parliament to be perhaps the most compelling part of what was a VERY entertaining piece of history.

I wondered why Morgan was editor at NOTW for such a short period. I, too, find him insufferable and hope his part in the scandal comes to light. Andrew Sullivan added some more info just a bit ago:
ReplyDeleteIn his memoir, Morgan boasts of miraculously having Kate Winslet's phone number.

I'm sure the ferocious investigative journalists at CNN and across the American news media will take careful note of what was said in the committee and will look into it.
ReplyDeleteDo I detect a note of dry British sarcasm in that statement?
Piers Morgan is hated by every single Arsenal supporter on the planet. The man is a liar and purveyor of false and malicious information that led to people being fired from their jobs and being banned from matches by Arsenal Football Club. EIGHT YEARS after Morgan's involvement in providing said false information regarding the Arsenal - Galatasaray UEFA Cup Final match in Copenhagen, Morgan finally apologized for his involvement in the matter. But still, people lost their jobs and/or were banned from attending football matches at Arsenal because of what he did. There were no repercussions on Morgan for this activity.
ReplyDeleteI agree Gryphen. Not a fan of the pompous Morgan and he has the "holier than thou" attitude of the Murdochs. I have been tweeting Morgan from the beginning and @ExNOTWJourno2 has been tweeting him as well.
ReplyDeleteOn America's Got Talent on Tuesday, Howie Mandel even said something to Piers about "Hacking". I thought that was pretty ballsy! I know he was not popular in Britain, and I don't think most Americans truly know what a pompous ass he is....YET! I see his day coming though.
I don't care for Piers Morgan one bit. The man is a bully and a liar.
ReplyDeleteMorgan is an asshole. They used to have him on Have I Got News for You on this side of the pond. I don't know why he went on that show because they regularly mocked him and got great mileage out of the fool.
ReplyDeleteWhy did they keep referring to Louise as Mrs? Were they trying to shut the little woman up?
I wished someone had asked Brooks or Morgan about their 'affair'.
ReplyDeleteMorgan is up to his eyeballs in it. You wonder why he came to the U.S.?? He's also defending them because he still plays in the same circles. He's such a liar, his back teeth are floating.

Morgan knew. Hacking is a corporation wide modus opperandi. They all share the same information platform. Maybe he's correct that he never hacked anybody personally, but he was editor of a crooked ship, and not just NOTW..... ALL OF NEWS CORP.
Didn't Morgan make the comment the other day that he didn't think congress should investigate Murdoch?
ReplyDeleteI hope that at the end of all this that the entire tabloid media frigging disappears.
ReplyDeleteThey are responsible for ruining so many lives. I haven't looked at one in years neither do I watch their slimy shows. Fox talks about piling on...I know of no one who can stretch a story ( mostly made up) like them and the tabloid press.
Piers is an ass kisser and a liar but his days on TV are numbered.
Piers Morgan is universally reviled in the journalism community. I doubt that you could find one on either side of the pond to vouch for his integrity. Andrew Sullivan walked back from calling him "odious" yesterday, but the description applies to Morgan.
ReplyDeleteHave no idea what CNN was thinking when they hired either Piers or Erick Erickson. CNN made an "odious" mistake that they will regret before the end of the year. Alex Massie (The Spectator, UK, Scottish) said that parliamentary hearings will cool off until October when the hearings will resume.
In an interview with Naomi Campbell, he let on that he didn't think intercepting phone messages was too big of a deal. He's also not very consistent about whether people knew about changing their PINs.
ReplyDelete"Piers: Well, I was there in 1994-5, before mobiles were used very much, and that particular trick wasn't known about. I can't get too excited about it, I must say. It was pretty well-known that if you didn't change your pin code when you were a celebrity who bought a new phone, then reporters could ring your mobile, tap in a standard factory setting number and hear your messages. That is not, to me, as serious as planting a bug in someone's house, which is what some people seem to think was going on."

The Morgan doth protest too much, methinks.
ReplyDeleteThat was a spectacle well worth watching! Wolf certainly demeaned himself by running interference for Piers, especially at the end when he practically begged Louise to apologize for besmirching the shining reputation of the blustering Piers.
ReplyDeleteHer incredibly contemptuous attitude towards Piers was an absolute sight to behold!
I think Piers Morgan is now fighting for his life as a CNN host before this hacking scandal consumes him, too. He thought he could bully Louise Mensch the way he used to bullying everyone else, but her spine was more than equal to the attempted intimidation.
Yes, that was MOST entertaining. Thank you!
Very informative interchange. Piers may regret bringing attention to this issue in such a vehement way. Unless it can be proven to include more recent activity, my fear is he'll get away with it because of the five year statute of limitations. But will no doubt cast doubt on his veracity as a journalist/ reporter.
ReplyDeleteWow, haven't watched cnn in years, it's truly tanking big time. Perhaps they'll fill the void when Fox goes down in flames.
I have never understood why CNN hired Morgan anyway. Don't we have enough pompous windbags over here already? Never watched him, never will.
ReplyDeleteAnd, I can't resist: Louise Mensch is a real mensch for sticking it to Morgan.
Piers Morgan got his start suckling on Murdoch's fetid and festering teats. These days, he subsists on nothing but a diet of shit.
ReplyDeleteYou know what they say: you are what you eat.
although she might be going on some other, possibly inside source of information not in the book to back up her claim, here is what a liberal uk blog has to say about her claim - that it is false
ReplyDeletehttp://liberalconspiracy.org/2011/07/21/c4-tory-mp-piers-morgan/
although i do love the fact that she stands up to piers and wolfy. it is extra entertaining in that she resembles hermione granger both physically and attitudinally. british government is so much more fun to watch in action than ours!!!
CNN has definitely turned into a #2 Fox clone. They are sickening. I watched them for years when they were a legitimate news station but since they've turned into another right wing crap distributor, they don't merit a second of my time.
ReplyDeletePiers IS a jerk and a bully. I have no difficulty at all believing in his prominent involvement in the hacking. If you noticed, the only thing he clung to was her statement about his book, as if that was the only source of information she had. I love her.
he thing I enjoyed the most about the video was watching the pleasure (close to laughing) on her face as he ranted on. She has a lot more damning information on him than she shared, & you can count on it.
Wolf was beyond pathetic. They've certainly pulled any teeth he ever had & he's nothing more than a pathetic a%# kisser for the right now.
Thanks Gryph! Lovin' this too!
