The GOP candidates weigh in on the fall of Qaddafi's regime in Libya. Great, they can admit they were wrong and finally give President Obama credit! Wait, what?

Now that the situation in Libya seems to have vindicated President Obama, the GOP Presidential hopefuls are left in the ticklish predicament of having to cheer the accomplishment of America's military, and NOT accidentally give Obama any of the credit.

Let's see how they did:

Rick Santorum: “Ridding the world of the likes of Gadhafi is a good thing, but this indecisive President had little to do with this triumph.”

Mitt Romney: “The world is about to be rid of Muammar el-Qaddafi, the brutal tyrant who terrorized the Libyan people. It is my hope that Libya will now move toward a representative form of government that supports freedom, human rights, and the rule of law. As a first step, I call on this new government to arrest and extradite the mastermind behind the bombing of Pan Am 103, Abdelbaset Mohmed Ali al-Megrahi, so justice can finally be done.”

Rick Perry: “The crumbling of Muammar Ghadafi’s reign, a violent, repressive dictatorship with a history of terrorism, is cause for cautious celebration. The lasting impact of events in Libya will depend on ensuring rebel factions form a unified, civil government that guarantees personal freedoms, and builds a new relationship with the West where we are allies instead of adversaries.”

Michele Bachmann weighed in, also refusing to credit the administration or NATO: “I opposed U.S. military involvement in Libya and I am hopeful that our intervention there is about to end. I also hope the progress of events in Libya will ultimately lead to a government that honors the rule of law, respects the people of Libya and their yearning for freedom, and one that will be a good partner to the United States and the international community.”

You know I was trying to think what exactly ALL of the GOP candidates had in common, and now I know what it is.  They are all assholes!

Congratulations to Rick Santorum for managing to be the biggest asshole in a field of unbelievable assholes.

(Rick Perry was quoted as saying, "Lybia who???")

I'm sure the GOP is sending Franklin Graham's Samaritan's Purse to start aid and conversions - it's the only charity they are capable of, with Jesus Strings attached.

Oh, and also too, where has our cartoonish t-shirt and polka-dot groady toe-nail wearing ever-so-Presidential Sarah Palin weighed in on this?

I'm sorry, but the worst impression of Jim Neighbors (who was a major dork but actually likeable) Rick Santorum, is trying to come off as decisive? I wouldn't trust him to handle a parking dispute, he thinks he could take on Gaddafi?

Racist reactionaries, in addition to being assholes. Those shown (and more of their ilk) can fix themselves up all they want, with plastic surgery, makeup and expensive haircuts, but they will never be able to reclaim their humanity.

    Fixed that for ya, G.

One anonymous Obama adviser labeled the Libya strategy “leading from behind” - so President Obama was not retreating, he was reloading and advancing in a different direction?

Fuck you Sarah Palin, who would so willingly send in your son into harm's way to get you Blue Star brownie points to further make you the ultra-patriotic Grizzly Mama around.

The article you did yesterday on Libya's "Fantastic 4" was great. Did any of these fools who were interviewed notice the poster with Obama's picture on it being held up by that crowd of people? Hm. Well, maybe not.

Anyone notice that Sarah Palin appears to be Michelle Bachman's Dorian Gray portrait?

Slowly, slowly, Bachman gets a little better looking each day while Sarah's picture deteriorates!

And then you get 'The Dumpster' - spewing more crap on Fox and Friends on Monday.

“We are NATO,” Trump said. “We back NATO in terms of money and weapons, what do we get out of it?"

“So what do we get out of it, and why won’t we take over the oil?” he said. “Why aren’t we reimbursing? You know in the old days, when you win a war, you ‘kept to the victor, belongs the spoils.’ (Oh those 'old days' sure get in the way of the Rethugs!!!!)

    http://www.rawstory.com/rawreplay/2011/08/trump-on-libya-why-wont-we-take-over-the-oil/

Really - Tell that to the taxpayers of France, the U.K., Canada et al.

How quickly the Rethugs forgot, that this was mostly Mid East supported too - but why let facts get in their way.

Truthfully, my foreign friends tell me that the U.S. is like 'comic relief' in the eyes of some countries. Watching and listening is a popcorn fest!! On the flip side, the stupidity is tanking their economies/pensions once again and support to the U.S. may not be as forthcoming in future. The Rethugs talk 'global economy', but then beat their chests as 'they are the world'. Well Morons -- you aren't. One day that chest beating will cause someone to step on us like a 'gnat'.

Some of the NATO countries involved in Libya, told Bush to basically fuck off as to supporting him in the illegal non-NATO supported invasion of Iraq. That so 'bites' the Rethugs. They still can't get over it. Countries stood up and told Bush/US to fuck off!! Good on them!! They got it right.

I wonder if these people ever think about how stupid they look to the average American. To completely ignore the president or give him no credit at all is laughable. They are running for the President of the Tea Party. Clowns to the left of me, jokers to the right, here I am...

    O/T
"TRENTON, N.J. — A freshman Republican lawmaker resigned because his wife sent "an offensive and racist" email to the Democratic state Senate campaign of nine-time Olympic gold medalist Carl Lewis, a GOP official acknowledged Monday."

"Jennifer Delany's email to Lewis' campaign said, in part, "Imagine having dark skin and name recognition and the nerve to think that equaled knowing something about politics."

"Delany decided to leave office to shield his three children from "a hurtful and embarrassing public spectacle involving their mother."

    As someone commented on Huff:

"Okay, this is what she felt comfortable saying aloud--imagine what she mutters to herself" -- or to friends, her husband, her children - that which isn't in an email for all to see, etc. What's she teaching her kids inside the house 4 walls???

Yes indeedy, Gryphen. A bunch of assholes they be.

I agree, the "leading from behind" meant leading from the background, not that I am terribly comfortable with all of our under-the-radar activities (read: covert) in the past.

Ghaddafi is a bad, bad man obviously. People better be ready for who and what might take his place. That's the reality, and our President knows it.

The GOP is full of black and white thinkers, simplistic fools, however, who are stuck because they would normally just want to proclaim simple US victory and ignore all the nuances. Here they can't even do that without risking giving Barack Obama some credit for knowing what our policy's aim was in the first place.

Truly a spineless posse of buffoons, tripping over each other's tongues while avoiding any acknowledgement this mission is a success.

The world is watching while these asshats reveal their cowardly selves, especially Santorum and Perry.

What were their plans to oust this pariah? A Prayer revival, exorcism, or perhaps prayer warriors?

Not one drop of American Blood was shed, the world came togehter and backed the people of libia.

Does it get any better than this?

None of them are fit to shine the President's shoes, let alone hold public office.

When Americans applaud illegal aggression in foreign countries because it's their political party and their president that gets the credit, it's a sure sign of a corrupt society that's on it's way down. Eventually your chickens will come home because they always do.

This was a war for oil and not one bit different from Bush's horrible unwarranted massacre of the Iraqi people. The only difference is that it has been spun better by your government. Orwell predicted how we would learn to buy the bridge they try to sell us.

Let us pray. Glory be to the conquering hero Obama and glory be to the conquering hero Bush2. For surely they were both justified in their excuses for their wars. Onward Christians, in the name of Geezuz.
    Amen.

Since there is no HIT out on Qaddafi that we know of... how can these two claim that the world will soon be RID of Qaddafi?

If he lives ANWHERE on the planet we are not RID of him... we are housing him in another place....

The wording seems somewhat prophetic to me... who has a hit on Qadhafi??? Repubs show your cards...

  26. Obama initially said that the military action in Libya would be a matter of "days, not weeks". Now, months later, and after more than 7,000 bombings from the air, he is sure this is an easy victory.

It ain't over until it's over. Let us wait and see if there is a victory in Libya, and if so, of what type. Incidentally, there are US and French "military advisors" on the ground in Libya. It might turn out to be not so different from Afghanistan.

The only thing republicans seem to be able to give Barack Obama credit for is the economic train wreck that was already in progress before he walked into the Oval Office.

Exactly what have these people done for the nation lately, other than everything humanly possible to retard an economic recovery on Obama's watch?

Gryphen, there appears to be a rather substantial santorum stain on Mr. Santorum's otherwise very stylish tie. You'd think these important leaders and potential presidents would have a stiff member available to take care of such potentially embarrassing hygiene failures.

(Oh shit!! Speaking of embarrassing mistakes, it appears I made a careless typo that I didnt notice until after I submitted the comment.... The phrase "stiff member" should read "staff member". Repeating: the comment should have read that Mr. Santorum would benefit from a STAFF member, not a STIFF member. Sorry for any misunderstanding.)
